I am a retired 72-year-old teacher, and I’ve lived long enough to confidently say, “Once in a generation”—that’s the only way to describe Attorney Susan Chestnut.
I met Susan when I was trying to help a new friend, who was in a very vulnerable situation. My friend was entirely dependent on her husband, knew no one, and had limited command of the English language. Her husband had served her with divorce papers, leaving her with no assets and desperate for both an immigration and divorce lawyer.
Most people think lawyers are only in it for the money, win or lose, they get paid—but not Susan Chestnut. Her dedication to helping people, regardless of their financial situation, is demonstrated by her involvement as a pro bono lawyer. We were incredibly fortunate to meet Susan through a pro bono Zoom meeting organized by Florida Rural Legal Services.
From the moment we introduced ourselves, I realized Susan was a special kind of professional. Her posture, presence, and warmth instantly set her apart from the negative stereotypes often associated with lawyers.
Right from the start, it was clear that she genuinely wanted to help. Based on the limited information we provided, Susan quickly scrutinized and assessed our situation with impressive insight. With my in-laws passing away within a month of each other, there was no way the family was going to save their house. Going into a legal dispute is emotionally and physically exhausting. This was the case when my sister suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s was not receiving emotional, physical or monetary support from her husband. Finding an attorney that you can trust is a challenge in this day and age when so many have left their moral compass at the door. This is not the case with Aaron Johnson whom throughout a year+ long battle remained compassionate and understanding of the situation. Be careful thanking people for gifts that they give you. I thanked someone for their gift and what a nightmare it turned out to be. I explained the situation to a State Attorney Rotarian friend and asked him who would he use. “The man for you is Louis B. ‘Buck’ Vocelle Jr.” Buck and his knowledgeable staff was there every step of the way. Buck returned phone calls promptly, arranged his schedule to fit us in (even when he was busy), and kept us apprised of every new development throughout our association. We went through arbitration and came to a settlement that was best in the long run. Without Buck’s confidence and expertise in this situation I don’t know how I would have made it. I highly recommend his expertise to everyone.

I was wrongly accused by a local politician ( a lawyer) of participating with an election group (ECO 527). This politician sued the group and included me in the lawsuit. I hired Mr. Vocelle to represent me. He immediately initiated actions to remove me from the lawsuit. He was very methodical and systematic in his successful efforts to remove me from the lawsuit.
He won a summary judgement in my behalf against the plaintiff ( the politician) and won the subsequent appeal. This judgement included legal fees which the plaintiff
now owes.
During this stressful time, Mr. Vocelle answered every question I asked and took the time to respond to every call I made (which were A LOT !!). He also explained all the legal procedures I went through in "layman" terms. He was a very positive influence during the whole process.
I would highly recommend him for any legal issue.

When my mother passed away, I contacted the lawyer who did her estate planning, E. Steven Lauer, to handle the post death administration of her trust. Because my mother had a living trust, my family was not required to go through probate. The distribution of her property was promptly handled by Mr. Lauer, who charged us a very reasonable fee. Our family experienced a very emotionally draining divorce battle with our elderly father's ex-wife who attempted to rip off our father's estate for everything that she could once she discovered our father was suffering from severe Alzheimer's Disease. As our father became mentally incapacitated, his wife attempted to cash in on virtually everything he had worked for his entire life by forging his signature on legal documents.
