Jeffrey Bagnell was my attorney in a lawsuit against Sig Sauer gun manufacturer. I first met Jeff while I was still in an almost month-long hospital stay following my injury and he had driven 8+ hours to meet me and my family face to face. Not many people could comprehend the struggle I have endured due to my injury, or fathom how life-changing a huge, public trial can be. However, Jeff was always there for me and has since evolved from attorney to close friend.
Jeff was by my side every single step of the way through a trial with terrifying odds. Just him and I, standing tall, against 14 attorneys with bottomless pockets, working for a company with billions of dollars at their disposal. Whether it was by phone, text, email, court filings, or sitting in a courtroom, Jeff never left me feeling alone in this fight. I know I would not have been able to make it through this horrific ordeal if it wasn’t for him continued support and guidance.
He is one of the most intelligent, hardworking, dedicated people I know. He went to great lengths and numerous sleepless nights to make sure he covered every aspect of my case. Although Sig Sauer’s law team tried, he never let them fluster him or outsmart him in the slightest. He always came back swinging with very quick, articulate, and effective responses to their attempts at overwhelming him with filings and paperwork. He never missed a deadline and was swift and powerful in his responses.
I don’t think there is enough I could say about Jeff and his abilities as a lawyer. He is everything you could possibly hope for when looking for someone to be on your side.

I was able to talk to Joe Maya about my husband's case regarding his daughter and her refusal to do schoolwork. I needed advice on whether my husband can legally do something since his ex isn't notifying him about his daughter's refusal to do work and since he hasn't seen his daughter since the pandemic began. Joe was very helpful and told me the direction that my husband can go if he decides to. It is good to hear that my husband may be able to fight to help his daughter even if that includes changing custody.

My husband and I had had individual estate planning documents (Wills, Powers of Attorney, Advanced Medical Directives) drawn up during a period when we lived out-of-state. When returning to CT, it was high on our priority list to identify an attorney with the right expertise to assess the adequacy of what was in place and develop whatever changes/additions necessary to conform with CT statues and be as prepared as possible for Probate.
For us, not only were we seeking an individual with extensive experience, but we also felt the need for a personal connection; an attorney who could inform, explain and make recommendations in "laymen's terms" and give us the confidence that everything that we needed for our particular circumstances would be prepared promptly and for a reasonable fee. Staff personality was also important.
Not to be cliche, but Gerald Shea and his team "checked all the boxes." Two weeks from the time of our initial (free) consultation, we had fully executed, complete documents in our hands. During this process, we learned that our prior Wills were deficient, lacking the details that would have distributed our estate to the appropriate heirs according to our wishes as a blended family.
What peace of mind this has brought! We also know that Gerry is there for us for any future questions we may have and/or if there are legal changes that require updating.

What should have been a straightforward divorce (married 5 years, no kids, all assets/debt kept separately and listed in our individual names, both of us employed in well paying jobs with benefits) was turning into anything but straightforward. Although my child's case is not related to special ed, Mr. Berliner followed up with my urgent voicemail and called me after 8 pm, once he got a chance to respond. People get very stressful and emotional especially when they are not treated fairly and tend to carry away from the main course. I think Mr. Berliner knows this very well and stays sharp to the point. He spent about an hour or a bit more to listen to our situation, asked additional questions to clarify a few moments and tried to keep the conversation in a right direction. Unfortunately, I was out of time to make proper decisions for the next day, however, Mr. Berliner still suggested several options that were very helpful. I highly recommend Mr. Berliner to parents who are having problems with their schools.

We engaged Attorney Berliner after unsuccessfully trying to get our local school district to realize that our daughter’s educational needs were not being met. After literally years of trying to wade through PPT meetings and negotiating IEP’s we finally challenged our school district to consider an “out of district placement” so that she could finally get the specialized education she needed. Nothing that we said, no evidence that we provided could convince the school district that they were failing her.
From the outset, Attorney Berliner was personable, professional and very straightforward in explaining the various options we had. Once we engaged his services, he attended a PPT meeting with us and represented our position in a very clear way. When the school district continued to hold to their position, Attorney Berliner helped us through what ultimately because a legal battle that we could never have fought – or won – on our own.
I am very pleased to say that our daughter did receive the out-of-district placement that she needed. She has now moved through the high school system, and is a better adjusted, more motivated and forward looking young adult than she was, or would have been if she had stayed where she was.

I cannot say enough great things about Attorney Pate. He was not only courteous and professional to me but very intelligent in dealing with employer. He not only demonstrated skill and professionalism while handling my case but showed extraordinary compassion during very difficult and stressful times.
I worked with him on my situation and I appreciated his honesty and straightforwardness and after assessing the situation presented all the options so that I could make the best, intelligent and well informed decision. In September, 2016, I contacted Atty. Pate regarding an incident I considered to be age discrimination in my workplace. In a no charge consultation, he advised me to contact my human resources department regarding the incident. I did so. My company investigated the incident, and it seemed to have been resolved. Six months later, my company took what I believed to be retaliatory action for my initial complaint. I resigned from my employment under duress two months later. I again contacted Atty. Pate who believed I had a discrimination and retaliation case against my employer. He advised me every step of the way while negotiating with the employer. Atty. Pate was helpful when I tried to collect unemployment and the employer appealed twice. My unemployment claim was successful. When the employer would not agree to a settlement, Atty. Pate filed a complaint with the EEOC, and ultimately a suit against the employer. Nine months after my second contact with Atty. Pate, the case was settled to my satisfaction. Atty. Pate kept me informed through the entire process. He was patient and empathetic and worked hard on my behalf against a very difficult employer. I am grateful for his efforts and guidance.

Brian is an exceptionally bright, insightful, caring and truly decent young attorney. I initially had hired another highly respected lawyer in his firm to handle my case. Brian was his assistant or associate. Within a couple of meetings it was clear that Brian was the superior attorney. I soon requested that he become the lead attorney for my case. It was extremely reassuring to know that I had an attorney who was able to listen and fight for me. He cut to the essence of the arguments and was able to explain any and all alternatives available to me. He pushed for me when ever he had an opportunity and worked tirelessly for me. He did not attempt to steer me in a direction that would create more billing hours for the firm. The outcome of my case was the best possibility. My business partner and I worked with Tom in forming our LLC and creating a partnership agreement. Tom answered all of our questions promptly and in detail. He kept us informed every step of the way. He understood our time constraints in wanted the company formed in a short time and offered us manageable solutions. My husband and I contacted Patrizia to help us with a Tennant/Landlord issue. She responded to our first email within hours and gave a consultation call the same day. She responded with an explaination of services she could provide and what the fee would be within 24 hours of our initial consultation. She was amazing! She wrote a letter to our landlord/landlords lawyer and then mediated on our behalf. The strength, intelligence, and tone with which the letter was written gave us goose bumps and in the end we got exactly what we were hoping for. She kept us informed every step of the way and did exactly what she said that she would. I'm not sure it can get much better than that!
