I have never met a more dishonest man in my life, I regret ever contacting him, he is too old now and very low energy, there plenty of law firms in town, who have much more resources and are honest about what they can do for you.

Lee Ann Haines and Hollie Murphey saved my little girl. I wasn’t willing to take a chance losing, so I went to the best. The firm’s reputation preceded them, but the diligence and efficiency that was dedicated to my case by both attorneys and staff surpassed even my high expectations. I can’t thank them enough! This is who you need if you want an attorney who is direct, doesn’t waste time, and wins!

Was trying to hire Estrada recently for a case I am fighting but when we had a meeting my 12 year old son began telling me after that at one point when I went into the bathroom he began making sexual advances on my son and asking him for his # to stay in contact. Once I heard about this we filed a report and come to find out he is making a joke out of it publicly. Truly disgusting human being.

This attorney was rude to me and refused to listen to anything I said about my parent's estate. The will was changed many times without my being consulted. I have been disabled since 2009. He told me I could not visit my Father when he was dying at Texas Specialty Hospital which is illegal. He said my brother took over the estate and he could not do anything about it when my brother who died in November 2014 was a disabled Pharmacist. My Grand Father bought our family home and my Father Robert O. Winters built two properties in 1982 and 1985. I was lied to many times. I do not recommend this attorney at all as he caused four of my family member including myself to loose our homes, and much property and belonging still missing to this day in 2017 and my parents died in 2010.

I never received a letter of notice from him. He would never return a call or meet with me except just a minute before a hearing then would not discuss my defense. Case went to trial and he threw me to the wolves. He didnt call any witnesses nor did he have a defense planned for my case.

I retained Rita for an uncontested divorce in 2010. Her retainer was more than reasonable. I think I paid a $1700 retainer and her paperwork showed she completed it for around $1200; very honest. She also seems very experienced and as a result, was very direct and to-the-point. She said what needed to be said and didn't waste time discussing things that didn't need discussed; which worked out great for me since I wasn't there for a $200/hr friend to chat with. Everything was filed where it needed to be and all expected paperwork showed up when I was told it would. Was happily divorced as soon as permitted.

A friend referred her to me and said she was a fighter and would fight for my rights as a mother. She barely let me talk and said that I didn't have a case because the judge and the other attorney shared an office in the past and were very good friends and that the attorney probably took measures to make sure that judge was the presiding judge which I thought was unethical. Rita just kept saying that I was screwed and I would lose and have to pay child support. She was very rude and inconsiderate, stirred up conflict of interest fears about the judge, and treated me like I was a criminal.

After several attempts to get in contact with Mr. Walker, whom doesn't have, his own office or place to practice even, he did not speak with me until 15 minutes before court started. Instead of fighting for me he just wanted me to agree to everything which only led to more disaster! He was caught in several lies , he is not honest trustworthy or reliable. He is not on your side, if ever your lawyer do yourself a favor and find you another one as fast as possible.

The level of communication is awful. The amount of work he put into my case was minimal. He accepted my payment and seemed not to care what happened subsequently. He is in this for a paycheck and sadly doesn’t deserve it. Also, he failed to show up for my final court date and his receptionist laughed and said “I thought we were done with you, you’re not on my paper for a court date.” Well, you goofed. Sums up Mahlers practice perfectly.

I went to Rick Mahler because i thought he was the best option. I waa completley wrong. He represented me for a divorce/custody battle, Rick informed me there was no way my ex would get custody and he felt good about the case. Well after i pay him 3,500 i couldn't for the life of me get a hold of anyone in the office. After talking to Jessica multiple times resurring me i would recieve a call i never did. So here comes trail time which Rick did absolutley nothing for me didn't even try to argue with my ex's attorney literally just sat there. Anyways after the trail was said and done i was told i was divorced. WRONG!!! my trail took place (07/15.) I call the court house up where the trail was taken place to get a copy of my divorce papers (06/17) since i never recieved them. I was informed that i was still legally married. I call Mahler's office finally got a hold of Jessica and they had no clue what the hell i was still married. Jessica told me she would get back with me ASAP, Which of course she did not nor did Rick. So i get a lawyer in Fort Worth and finally get answers my ex didnt finish paying his attoerny so he didn't file the decree. I'm not sure why i found out before he did. But this is completley unprofessinal especially how much i payed i received terrible service . So if you want a good lawyer don't waste your time and money here!

When i was charged with a 2nd degree felony in Wichita County, I set forth with the task of retaining a criminal defense attorney. Due to my unfamiliarity in the county where i was charged, I didn't have a great deal of information to use as a guide for retaining the most competent attorney, or one that I could be somewhat confident would keep my best interests at heart and represent me to the best of their ability. Also, I thought that I would be kept updated on any proceedings, or information that pertained to my case, in a timely fashion. When I was in the process of searching for the most qualified, experienced attorney, with a successful record representing similar cases, I called and spoke with Mr. Mahler, and he was very charismatic, and convincing when selling himself and his ability to represent me in my case. After a short time, I retained Mr. Mahler as my criminal defense attorney and paid him in advance $5000.00 for his services. At this point, the communication from Mr. Mahler and his staff pretty much ceased. I not only was not contacted to provide updates with regards to my case and what course of action Mr. Mahler was considering to defend me, I couldn't even get a call back from Rick or any member or his staff when I had questions or concerns regarding various information I had received from other sources (ie. bondsman.) Then when I finally was able to confirm that I had basically been misled to believe that Rick had negotiated the conditions of my bond agreement with the Central Magistrate's office, and that I was totally in compliance with the conditions of my bond. But I continued to be scheduled for bond condition hearings every month, which I found odd. After the 4th hearing was set, I decided since I couldn't get a straight answer from my attorney or any member of his legal staff, I needed to seek out this information from any other source possible, to have clarification that I was in fact complying with the conditions of my bond. Considering I could have a warrant issued for my arrest if I wasn't complying with those conditions, I felt this to be very important, and cause for concern on my part. This is when I was informed after calling the Magistrate's office myself, that although my attorney had filed a Request to Modify the Conditions of my bond, the Judge had never signed the Request and had neither accepted nor declined the request. I was told that the Judge had shortly thereafter, taken a leave of absence for medical reasons, and was not available to speak with me. The lack of information given to me by my attorney that I paid to work in my best interests, could have quite possibly landed me in jail for bond violations, and caused my bonding agency to withdraw my bond for non compliance of conditions. I felt that this behavior was totally unethical, unprofessional, and counterproductive for me and my case. When I contacted Mr. Mahler's office after being notified by my bondsman that my case had been no-billed (dismissed,) to confirm that this information was accurate, I was told by Christy that I would be contacted by Rick ASAP. To this day (2 months after the dismissal of my charges,) I have yet to be notified by my attorney of this, and if I was entirely reliant on just the information provided by him and his staff, I would still be going to and having weekly Urinalysis performed at my own expense ($60 per test,) to comply with the conditions of my bond, for a case that is no longer even active, and for charges that have been dismissed "in the interest of justice." Rick Mahler never had to respond to an indictment, enter a plea, or negotiate an agreement with the District Attorney in my case. I was never indicted for the charges that were filed against me, and I feel at the very least for the $5000 that I paid for his representation, that I should have been notified of the dismissal of the charges, which would have alleviated a great deal of stress in my life.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
