Turley is an ambulance chaser, when in court he actually made things up to say about my ex that were not true. I understand that his job was to make me look better but I don't believe in fabricating information, just to win. I ended up having to fire him because I just didn't feel like his behavior was ethical. My ex is not a bad person or a bad mother and I don't feel that it was appropriate to attack her integrity to accomplish my goals. Just stick with the facts, there was no reason to twist things around. No wonder attorney's get a bad wrap, thankfully not all of them act like this.

Stephen Turley is a phenomenal attorney. He has been my attorney since 2014 and has represented me in court multiple times. He always has my best interest at heart. He is incredibly smart and fights for what is right. He will continue to be my attorney for as long as I need him. I wouldn't hesitate one second to refer anyone to him!

I have been fortunate enough to have experienced really good mediators throughout my divorce and custody case. However, I know several people not so fortunate. They got stuck with Alex. From what I have witnessed, I imagine he was a horrible attorney and people probably stopped hiring him. So he became a mediator. It appears that if his clients were not court ordered and forced to go to him, he would more than likely not be an attorney and working at McDonald's or somewhere where it doesn't require too much out of a person. This guy is a joke. Hopefully the judges wake up and realize this guy is a bully. He gets scared of certain attorneys and afraid to stand up for what is right. If you do have to use this guy, make sure you have a good attorney willing to stand up to him for you. If you don't have a good attorney, don't rely on this guy to do what is right.

Worst lawyer ever people please do your research before you decide to hire a lawyer this lawyer only saw me on the consultation, and then never saw me for the rest of the process. Every time I call or talk to anyone it was always assistant. One time that I call and she actually answered she didn’t even know what step on my case I was on I had to do some of the steps myself because it was faster to get it done. I look like they cared more about the money and getting paid then helping out and doing their job. I wish I would’ve done some research before I hired her because if I knew this is how she works, then I would’ve never hired her in the first place in the.

Joe was appointed to me by the courts. I could not be more thankful. Usually a court appointed attorney is only there because they have to be. He got to know my case and answered any of my questions with honesty and knowledge. I never had to wait for a call back or struggled to get ahold of him. He was there with the answers to all of my questions. He represented me well. I don’t do reviews often but I felt this was necessary. Thanks Joe.

Had this guy as a public defender. Wouldnt file any motions at all for me. Told me all the wrong things to do. If i didnt have this guy as an attorney i wouldnt have a felony today. Got told to waive my rights to a preliminary hearing by this worthless guy. Come to find out later if i didnt do that i would have been out of jail on the spot due to no witnesses showing up. Wouldnt explain anything at all. You might as well call this guy the DAs lap dog. I wish i knew what i was doing but in Sedgwick county jail u dont exactly get to look up laws yourself since most of the pages are ripped out of the law books they have there. Not that it really matters since you only get an hour the time u are in jail. All i can say is, is make sure u have money saved up so u can hire a real lawyer if u ever need one. If you get this guy, you are screwed if you dont fire him.

Retained Pat after he assured me he could protect me as a defendant in a civil suit on false accusations. Instead of doing that, he pushed me to settle and told me I should give the petitioner everything they asked for because I was in the wrong. He continued to bill me after I fired him, far beyond the retainer I paid. I’m happy to share I went on to win the case with a better attorney and counter sue for damages- and to think Pat wanted me to settle....

I had a child custody case that he should have stood up for. Instead Pat was doing his best to prevent me from gaining custody. My ex is a alcoholic, when drinking she pulled my son out of my arms, then rolled her ankle on a sloped curb. Thus sending the child to the ground at the age of 3. She had been picking my son up from the sitter while intoxicated. My son is shuffled off to all kinds of people, and still I am denied visitation. I have had no contact with my son for over two months. And still Pat sides with the mother. Pat Blanchard is by far the worst attorney ever. My ex is a dancer. I think his opinion is swayed by her looks. My son has been hit in his leg by her boyfriend leaving a bruise on his leg. I am the one they are accusing of making false reports. This is the most painful experience I have ever felt in my life. My son has been on stage in a local strip club touching the pole n everything else in there at the age of 5. While I was at work. N still Pat will not stand up for what is right. I am looking at granting full custody to my ex because I can't deal with the emotions nor be incriminated for telling the truth. This situation is twisted. Pat if you read this you should be ashamed of who you are.

He started off pretty good with my divorce, but things went down quickly. He was very unprofessional, did not do his job, and took it upon himself to belittle me on the stand. He didn’t fight for me or finish paperwork for divorce, he was very lazy. He dropped me as a client without any notice and immediately sued me. He was not willing to work with a payment plan. I had to hire a new attorney to finish the job. Would not recommend him at all.

I would not recommend Ross. He was never in the office when I called multiple times throughout the day. His secretary knows nothing about what's going on: like your phone number, what your bill is, and she doesn't make appointments. He seemed to want to do what he wanted and did not listen to me as a client. I had to fire him but still got stuck with a bill for which if it isn't paid in a timely manner a letter is sent to you that they will sue you if you don't pay. Better off retired.

He allowed me to believe that I shouldn't even try for primary custody. He had absolutely no concern for my rights, and gave me ZERO idea of what to expect. He told me to make a list of potential witnesses for court. He failed to mention that I was supposed to tell all those people to show up; I figured he'd tell me if I was. After all, I was paying him an obscene amount of money to work for ME. I found out the day before the hearing. I could only get one witness. My ex's attorney *insinuated* that my witness and I were in a romantic relationship (untrue!), and the judge threw out my witness's testimony. Ross did NOTHING. After I lost residential custody, he looked at me and said, "Well, that's how it goes." before walking away from me. That was it!!

One of the worst experiences I've ever had dealing with another "professional." I hired Mr. Cassell and his firm Eron Law for what seemed like a simple task of sending a certified letter to another party to initiate a docket call. The call was scheduled for March 30th. When March 30th arrives and I hear nothing from the firm, I check in. Mr. Cassell seems caught totally off guard. He tells me the call didn't happen because the other party didn't get the certified letter "for some reason." This seemed extremely fishy. How often does a certified letter not get delivered locally? Why didn't he check in on this before now? Why didn't he let me know something might have been wrong. I ask to see the receipt for the letter that was allegedly mailed. Some time passes and I get an email reply telling me he can't show me a receipt. He tells me the runner lost it. This was followed by lots of excuses. He took no responsibility. When I spoke to the head of the firm, he told me the lawyers on his site are really just renting space and he couldn't do anything but he would discipline the runner. Assuming all this isn't just made up, why is the runner being disciplined when Joe Cassell, the guy getting paid $200/hr didn't bother to do even the minimal amount of supervision, management or follow up. They took my money and delivered no results. I feel scammed. Please avoid.

My opinion of him has changed drastically. He gave me personal opinions not professional ones as he expressed the government is trying to make money off of filing fees. That is an erroneous and baseless assertion. He informed me he would not represent me because I had a bad opinion of lawyers based on my experiences with corporate lawyers, and he told me to have a therapist fabricate a story. The later is of course against a therapists code of ethics and their documentation has to hold up in court. I left his office $150 lighter and received no legal advice. ChatGPT could give me better legal advice. He just told me I had to file the paperwork, no shit. $150 for 30 minutes and the obvious advice. Even the first time I met him he told me the current generation of Vietnamese woman were lazy and I should be careful about my wife. Loose opinions, especially those personal in nature, are unwarranted and unprofessional. I had to find a completely different lawyer to handle the case. Một trò đùa chết tiệt.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
