Well all I can say about these folks is their just disgusting. The reason being they summoned my relative to a court hearing for a debt. They gave him zero opportunity to settle there while in court as he had a wad of cash on hm to do so. All he got was they or you should call them bla blah blah made no sense mis communication no paperwork or oral instructions on what to do next A TOTAL wash out on their end.

I regretted ever calling him. I hired him for a civil case and he totally flopped. It was very difficult contacting him. He wouldn't return my phone calls. He didn't counsel me at all. I ended up losing money and time. I discussed how awful my case was being handled to a friend who shared that info with a family member. That family told me whatever I do don't go to Cecil. But unfortunately I had already given him money. Run from this lawyer. Hire someone who knows what they are doing and won't hustle you out of money. Horrible lawyer÷

When I signed my contract 5 years ago i realized that after the agreement was discussed and i signed it, i realized there were tongs of stuff in there that i did not like and was not okay with. But the contract itself was so confusing i did not know what any of it meant. When i asked her about something we had discussed she said that wasn't in there. So i don't understand why it was discussed if it wasn't in there. Very disappointed with her lack of professionalism and now i cannot take my own child on a vacation unless its during the months of JUNE< JULY or august. Which are overpriced summer months. So basically if i took my son on vacation not in those months it's illegal unless agreed. But since i can't come to an agreement i think it's nonsence that my EX is yet again ruining my life and i can't do much to change it. VERY UNHAPPY> WILL NEVER RETURN. I hired her not understanding all the hidden things she put in my contract that didn't make sence to me. Now i'm really regretting this> Lawyers have a way of convincing you it's best when they don't even put the family first. This doesn't benefit my family. We love to travel and this is complete and utter nonsense to not be able to take my child on a vacation when he's not in school weather it's summer or not dumbest thing i've ever heard. Fired with pleasure! Got a new one now in Greensboro

We retained this lawyer October 2014 for custody and divorce. We met with him 2 times between October and March with October being the first time we met. He admitted to not even looking at our case and couldn't even remember how many children we had. It is now April and the case has been continued again! We are asking for another meeting to fire him. We didn't do our research because we wanted another lawyer that was in his practice but got him instead.

I do not recommend Mr. ANTHONY J. VRSECKY as a law firm for anybody who needs help with domestic violation case, he was not interested enough to solve my case by asking the judge for dismissal of my charges, but he instead he was negotiating with the prosecutor to solve the case by letting me taking a battery probation course, I refused that because I was completely innocent, and that will impact my background check history, in addition to that he refused and ignored my phone calls and emails, I had to fire him, and I hired another law firm who has a professional and he has more experience than Mr. Versecky, the new law firm was able to win the case immediately due to lack evidence so the judge has no choice but to dismiss it, so my recommendation to avoid hiring Mr. ANTHONY J. VRSECKY if you have a serious charge just think twice before going to him you will waste your time and your money.

Tried to charge me $1700 to go to small claims court. Had to work hard to negotiate the fee down to $1000. Her associate didn't say anything at all at the hearing, no cross-examination of any witnesses, and they tried to charge $1700 for that. They lost the hearing -- but that is not the point. The point is that their service was incompetent.

I worked with Smith Law. I would not recommend him to ANYONE. If you decide to hire him watch out. 1. He will not return calls. I was told he has other things to do. 2. He will have his assistant PAD you bill. 3 he never signs anything, his assistant signs for him and has someone in the office notarize her signatures as Steve's. 4 he will sue you even if he says he will do your case probono. WHAT OUT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Steve Smith represented me in a real estate issue in Winston-Salem After several meetings he didn't have a real solution for my problem. He stated he had make contact with the opposing lawyer, but then I stopped hearing from Mr. Smith. I made many phone calls and left many messages with his office, but nothing was return. I hired another lawyer and in one meeting my issue was resolved. Several weeks later Mr. Smith sent me a bill for over 600.00. He even had the nerve to bill me for reviewing the contract my new lawyer created. I finally called the NC Bar and they were able to reduce Mr. Smith fee. Steve Smith doesn't care about his clients, he only wants there money. The worst lawyer in NC

I gave him $370. As a deposit on an apartment that he was renting and because HE took to long getting it ready, I ended up stuck and having.to stay at my old place. Then to top it all off he won't give me My deposit back. I have left him 20 plus messages over the past two weeks and he refuses to call me back, probably because he knows he's in the wrong. I have never in my whole life done business with a more pompous person. I am 10 weeks pregnant and will more than likely end up homeless because of his games. I absolutely do not recommend him.

I was a client of Raymond Marshall, from 2014 to 2017. This was a workercomp case, along with personal injury case. This lawyer was not truthful to me in the very beginning concerning my initial settlement, I wanted to settle my case for a specific amount of money, this lawyer stated to me that I would get that amount, without consulting with the insurance company first, I personally felt he lied to me concerning that amount. For me it was a bad experience dealing with this lawyer. Lawyers are so to help you feel more at ease when you have been injured and going thru a difficult time, with this lawyer I stayed stress out.

I was a client of Raymond Marshall's until the late 1990s when he requested to withdraw from my case. In the almost five years he represented me he failed to depose a single witness, and failed to file in Federal court as he told me he would. My subsequent attorney deposed eight of the ten witnesses and the case was settled right before the court date five months later. This attorney stated that the case was damaged due to Raymond Marshall not conducting depositions in a timely manner. One of the witnesses had died in the five years Raymond Marshall was my lawyer. Raymond Marshall also lied about the settlement offers he had received regarding my case. He took my case thinking he would get a big payout right away without doing any real work. The Defendant's attorneys saw this, and my case did not go forward until another attorney took over and properly prepared my case for court.

If I could give a half stat rating I would have. I gave him a star for being a lawyer. I came to his office for traffic tickets, he shook my hand said he would handle them. He didn't show for court. I called the office numerous times and was told he will be there if he said he would come he will. Needless to say I spent tons of money and have a not so nice driving record also my insurance was awful. If he was to busy or wasn't going to show for whatever reason I wish I would've been notified.

First, I respect anyone's profession especially when he/she has invested monies, time and energy to obtain the education in order to function within the given profession. I have a major issue when I am charge for Attorney Representation and get substantially less!! How do you have an attorney with advance education, you (plaintiff) basically obtains a large majority of the information requested, have evidence galore and the defendant with a GED, less than impressive communication skills and doesn't even know ONE of his children teacher's name is granted custody of a child?!? I won't even provide complete details of the end result but know all that should have been conveyed came to fruition. I relocated to the area my son was to ensure that he graduated despite the judge coming to the decision based on information from the GED parent and Licensed attorney that it was in the best interest of the minor. The key statement made by the defendant was that the male child needed a positive male role model and he was it. That right there opened the door for an attorney to poke holes all through the statement based on the evidence my attorney had at her disposal!!! I was instructed not to say a word during the proceedings in other that she could hear what was being conveyed and respond accordingly. I would not in good faith recommend Attorney Mortis. She wants the money and will be AGGRESSIVE in obtaining it but is very lackadaisical in the courtroom. I was taught to look the part; represent yourself. If I was nurse providing care to a patient I would be dressed in my fly fishing gear. If I was an attorney I would not represent myself nor my clients looking like an offspring of HellRaiser. I mean this respectful; DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANYONE THAT OPERATES IN A PERFUNCTORY STATE OF MIND!!!!

Daniel Wanderman was an Assistant District Attorney in New York and, in part due to his negligent actions in a case, he became a defendant in a civil suit. This suit resulted in a settlement paid by The City of New York. Moreover, he helped destroy the good name of my father, Dr. Allan Stein, and my father was personally devastated by his arrest for crimes that he did not commit. He suffered traumatic stress, became emotionally and mentally debilitated, and passed away Jan 09, 2011. Simply, Mr. Wanderman did not do his due diligence and operating on a false pretense as to how a medical procedure should be done (he never consulted any medical professionals to check as to how this procedure should be done…turns out, my father performed the procedure correctly), he issued a warrant for his arrest for fraud.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
