Florentina was very helpful, knowledgeable, and accurate with her suggestions and advice. She had a lot of insight. Knew a lot about immigration and family law. I would recommend without hesitation her services. Her partner was also very friendly and easy to talk to.

Senior Citizens... A new Management Company took over the building we have been living in for over 41 years and started pretty much harassing all the Senior Citizens and all Tenants that have had rent stabilized and rent controlled apartments. At first, I tried handling this in the Housing Court myself back in September. 2016, when this all started after they purchased the building in August 2016. To no avail and after 6 trips to the Courthouse myself and being taken for a ride by their lawyers, I decided it was time in November to hire a lawyer. This is when I found Florentina. From the very first hello on the phone she was so pleasant, concerned and promised she would help and not to worry. She got right on to everything, called their lawyer and counseled us every day via phone and email numerously, to ensure we were at ease at all times. When we first met her in Court back in November 2016, she was with us from 9am-4pm as their lawyer decided to play games and play the system to their advantage. Florentina did not stand for it at all. She took total control and filed the proper paperwork for a new court hearing in front of the judge, along with a complaint for repairs which they refused to fix. We went back to Court in Dec. 2016 and again in front of the Judge on Jan. 2017 and by Feb 17th, everything was settled in our favor. She made the judge see that we (my parents were taken advantage of and made it a point to show the landlord and new owner that she was not going to stand for it and will protect the rights of my parents, senior citizens until the very end). I cannot begin to tell all of you what a load off my shoulders Florentina took. She took care of my parents like they were her own. In Court she never left our side and she was in constant contact throughout keeping me in the loop and informed of all steps we would take. She fought like a real true honest lawyer should. I did not believe there were such honest lawyers left ... that is why I tried on my own to help my parents, because I was afraid, but at the end of the day I was not a lawyer and was afraid I would hurt them. Once I met Florentina, I knew they, WE were in the best of hands. I strongly recommend her, but most important, I cannot thank her enough and remain eternally grateful, for the simple fact that she was honest, trustworthy, compassionate and continues to follow-up with us to make sure that all still is well. If that is not DEVOTION, I don't know what is.

Florentina Nica is and has been a saving grace in all our interactions in court for us and our clients. She is always on point and never ever leaves a stone unturned.Follow-up is one of the best I have ever seen. My Father was an Attorney and so is my daughter and Florentina has the same work ethic that he had and my daughter has. Very well pleased. She knows her stuff.Couldn't wish for a more efficient and knowledgeable Attorney if I tried. One could not do better than Florentina.

Needs to be DISBARRED. I WAITED 3 MONTHS FOR NOTHING, AND WHEN I FOLLOWED UP, HE DIDNT HAVE A TEAM LIKE HE ADVERTISED TO LOOK INTO MY MALPRACTICE CASE THAT INCLUDED TO DEATH OF MY SON, AND RESPONDED THAT MY SON WAS GOING TO DIE ANYWAY AND IT WILL COST HIM 6 FIGURES AFTER THEY TELL YOU THERE'S NO COST UNLESS THEY WIN. AND I NEED TO PAY 6 FIGURES FOR HIM TO RULE OUT NEGLIGENCE WHICH IS ABSURD, it cost me nothing to look at my son's records and found the evidence they need. He concluded don't be offended? In disgusted with lawyers like him. That a grieving mother couldn't get any help or some type of closure. It's not Right and I'm taking this time to to make sure anyone doesn't consider these inefficient attorney. I desposited competently better than them and I don't even have a license but you have these attorney that do and DO NOTHING BUT EASY CASES THEY CANNIT WIN ANY MALPRACTICE CASES. I'm representing my son myself on my lawsuit. I feel that confident and knowledgeable.

Working with David as my personal injury lawyer was more than I could have asked for. Upon meeting David, he took the time to sit and listen to my story, heard my concerns, and walked me through the process of what to expect, and he thoroughly prepared me for all matters involved. He is empathetic, professional, and tough when necessary. I'm so thankful for his tenacity with my trial, and never backing down when I sometimes felt all hope was lost - David never let me lose sight of the bigger picture, ever! Thank you, David... you truly were remarkable.

Takes time for him to respond, but once he does- results are amazing...and if you have immigration emergency he responds promptly and " saves" you. He is very knowledgeable and resourceful and working with him I had best results...worked with many immigration lawyers for more than 15 years and he is far the best!! Highly recommended. He does not need to advertise , because he is so busy all the time- people recommend him by word of mouth.

We were glad we worked with Jim. He went above and beyond to help make the process easier for us. He is a gruff and could improve his customer service skills, but he was professional with others and that's what matters. We were charged more than we were originally quoted, but we did have a sale that seemed simple but ended up being complicated. I wished he would have been more up front about the additional costs, but he did speak with us in advance of his bill. We would work with him again.

Most of the lawyers I go to, they don’t care, all they want is your money and mind you, I PAID A LOT. This one is different. He thoroughly discussed my situation/problems and issues and we worked it out. He got it done. He helped me. I now know that not all the money will go to him but for other fees as well. Also, he doesn’t ask a lot, he asked what is due and fair.

Do not waste your time. We hired him for the closing of our house. There was an open water bill and that day when we were closing, we were concerened over it and were told that there was money ($20,000) in escrow for the open water bill. Fast forward to ten months later and I get billed for almost 15k. Tried contacting him, as per the DEP and he told us that he was not going to help us and that it isn't his problem. There were other issues with the house regarding his lack of diligence, but this is the most significant one (most costly one). Steer clear of this man.

Be care if you're looking to hire Mr. McGlynn, especially on pricing and make sure you asked for a pricing agreement. Mr. McGlynn quoted $1300 all in for a condo home purchasing; before the closing, he sent an invoice of $1700. When asked why increasing price without notice, he said the transaction was more complicated thus higher fee. The home purchase was a normal transaction, plus he should have notified me before the fee increase. After going back and forward, Mr. McGlynn ignored my questions and still charged me $1700. In addition, I don't feel Mr. McGlynn cares for his clients. During the negotiation with the seller's attorney, Mr. McGlynn didn't proposed any counter offers and instead always encouraged me to accept seller's offers. After discussing with friends about the terms I signed, I realized I made a huge mistake and ended up spending a lot of money fixing seller's unit. McGlynn told me he was the only one looking after my interest and I trusted him, I regret hiring this man. Be very careful if you're looking to hire him for your home selling or purchasing.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
