This lady believed in taking on what was wrong and argued my case in the Oregon Supreme Court and my convictions were reversed. I had been unjustly been convicted in Curry county Oregon. I will always remember her tenacity in making where one has been wronged by doing what is right. Anne you are awesome and amazing. Thank you from all my heart. Randy Ritz

If you're up against Ms.O'Kasey Esq, you better have one heck of a case and one heck of a lawyer. I had the honor to be desposed by her over a lawsuit where she was defending a Warren Buffet company. I had studied her work for a few years and she is definitely of a higher echelon than many of the ivy league lawyers that I had studied (cousin/in-law to my kids) J VanKirk and Others. She's highly competitive and will do things outside of the box to win. If you have to choose between O'Kasey or other prominent firms, Okasey's skill set, competitive nature and dedication to the art of lawyering is unmatched. She's the authority at court, judges listen to her. Very hard for any judge to go against her and perhaps would be an uncommon occurrence for that to happen.

Genuine and amazingly talented, he truly did the best he could to help me win in court. And we Did! Connor not only got me off of Federal Probation but he had the Judge lecturing the Prosecutor on ethics and verbally questioning their motives in front of the entire courtroom. He didn’t just do it to win he really believed in me and came up his own arguments and led me right out of court and 100% free. I owe him and Susan Moffatt and Allison”Tex” Clark a world of praise. They are rated the best Federal public defenders office in the country and the title is well deserved.

Alison and Avery at Hecht & Norman provided the best service. Everyone on staff was kind, respectful, and they respond to all communication very quickly. They always made us feel welcome and answered all our question to our understanding. From the start, both Alison and Avery were very knowledgeable with all Immigration laws and kept us informed every step of the way. I was very appreciative of their time and how they made us feel as though we were more than just another case, we were family. When we received our interview date I can't tell you how AWESOME Allison and Avery were for preparing our entire packet. They made our trip much easier and less stressful by organizing everything, it was remarkable. After being in Ciudad Juarez and talking to others going through the same process and hearing about their Lawyer services made me feel even more grateful for Allison and Avery because not only were they a phone call away, their organization, communication, knowledge, and expertise outshines everyone else. If anyone needs an immigration Lawyer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Allison Sundby! If I could rate then 20 stars I would!

Bruce was hired for a case that should never have existed as the clients had agreed to arbitration. The co-defendant and plaintiff attorneys made a deal that encouraged the judge to move the case from arbitration to the courts. That could have been a distraction but Mr. Campbell handled the issue professionally and we ultimately settled the case for an insignificant sum compared to the original amount. Having worked with attorneys in the past, I was most impressed with Bruce's knowledge around securities and security regulations, his honesty regarding our chances (multiple plaintiffs), his willingness to listen to my thoughts and answer my questions, and his far thinking planning. In addition, I had the opportunity to sit through a number of court hearings and throughout Bruce was by far the best prepared. I often wondered 1)why the others were not prepared and 2)if they ever took a course in law school around presentations! Not once did Mr. Campbell or his team receive a negative word from the presiding judge (as others did). I firmly believe that because of Bruce's preparation, his delivery style, and his ability to argue a point, the cases were settled out of court for an amount less than we had estimated. If you want a smart attorney who is always prepared, who listens to your desires and is willing to be honest, and who wins then Bruce Campbell is that attorney. I ranked him an excellent in ever category and would without hesitation hire him again.

He kept me informed every step of the way and in moments when I had doubts, when I felt afraid, he made himself available to offer counsel and support. I appreciated his sense of humor and encouragement regarding life after the divorce; He probably works on a lot of divorces, but I never felt that mine was unimportant; He listened and I felt heard. In the end, the details were settled as he assured me on multiple occasions that they would be. Highly recommend this attorney.

My name is Diana Saltvick and I first requested Mr. Andy Simrin to go over a summons I received from a man that had been incarcerated for years--the case was unclear to me and I of course didn't understand the legal aspect at all..So upon arrival to his office (then in Salem Oregon) he quickly and professionally went over the court summons and put me at ease with in moments..He said what I had was a simple case of a man that had nothing better to do behind bars then to cause trouble. So he accepted the case and proceeded to handle it every step of the way..Every statement sent to him by the courts or from him to the courts were sent to me ..within days of filing . His ability proved to be of the utmost professional level in every aspect. I felt that Mr. Simrin never treated my case any different regardless on how it seemed to be to him a very cut and dry situation. The time and effort Mr. Simrin spent on my case was a very long and drawn out one to be sure. At times I felt as tho we were fighting a loosing battle due to the amount of appeals we had to endure and yet at the end of near a years worth of work Mr. Simrin triumphantly won our case hands down.. Mr Simrin never missed a beat in timely return of court papers and the full research of the case and all parties involved, Mr Simrin in fact knows his law and practice to the fullest. I believe that if anyone is interested in finding a lawyer that absolutely holds 100% respect for their clients it would be Mr. Andy Simrin . You wont ever be disappointed with his work ethics or his ability to be in contact with you during your time with him..He is a very honest and trustworthy professional in his field of law. I highly recommend Mr Simrin to anyone that is interested in having a man that is willing to legally handling your case and making sure that in any outcome he will have done everything to his abilities to have won for you .. Mr. Andy Simrin takes his profession very seriously and that is something that we as a client always look for isn't it?? He is always willing to put in all the necessary time to make sure that your case is completely covered from begining to end..Mr Simrin also is excellent in telephone contacting..He made it a regular weekly or daily (if needed) effort to contact me directly by phone as well as e-mail when needed. It is a scary thing to be sued and as Mr. Simrin understood my lack of knowledge of the law he made sure to never talk over me with terms I wouldn't understand , he always made sure that after each conversation I completely understood what details and accomplishment our case had overcome..Mr. Simrin ( and I cant stress this enough) always treated me with respect and honesty . Two of the most importiant factor I look for in dealing with any professional.. So I encourage you to closely consider Mr. Andy Simrin in handling your court needs if what you are looking for is an honest , knowledgeable and hardworking individual --if those are the qualifications that you are seeking?? Mr Simrin is going to be the lawyer for you..

Jim was amazing. We contacted him after consulting with another Attorney that we are not comfortable with. Our issue was with a neighbors bamboo damaging our Cinderblock wall. The neighbor was difficult and said her home owners insurance would not cover it and wanted to leave it at that. Jim advised the neighbor that he felt strongly that the insurance company had some responsibility. Jim then began dealing with the insurance company to reach a fair settlement. We would recommend Jim to anyone requiring his service.

Mr. Stern was extremely professional and thorough throughout the entire process of my case. His experience and knowledge proved to be well worth the seemingly high price. I'm glad to have spent the money to have such a vital role, in my life changing event, filled by Mr. Stern and his team. Mr. Stern not only did his job talking with the DA and professionals in and out of court, but also, made sure to check in with me that I was doing well and reassuring me during various difficult and frustrating stages of the process. If you are facing a rough road ahead of you, like I did, with criminal matters... do yourself a favor and contact Mr. Stern. Remember the high price comes with many years of experience, skill, and knowledge you're going to need for the BEST possible outcome in your case.

My life crumbled and fell apart at 22 when I was charged with strict liability statutory rape charges, for conduct that lacked any criminal intent. Desperate and hopeless, I was looking at decades in prison when I first met Zach, but he immediately assuaged much of my worries through his sharp analysis and strategizing in just the first consultation. My case was fairly complex, involving social media and communication logs, but Zach wasn't afraid of combing through it all to find any and all avenues of attack. Zach also went above and beyond in easing and dealing with my emotional turmoil, while never failing to be professional and honest with me about the potential outcomes of my case. And despite being charged in one of the worst counties to be prosecuted for a sex crime, Zach fought hard and was able to secure an outcome with only probation, allowing me the chance to plan my future and rebuild my life. Zach is unquestionably one of the best lawyers around, and he is truly dedicated to helping people navigate and fight against a system that at times can feel labyrinthine, overwhelming, and unjust. He understands the financial, mental, and societal toll that criminal charges and convictions can bring, and he never fails in treating his clients with the utmost compassion and respect. His pricing was fair, and his services, expertise, and connections are *well* worth it. Due to financial difficulties, he even worked with me to organize a generous payment plan. If you are ever facing serious charges and need a pitbull to fight for your rights and freedom, it would be a mistake not to call Zachary Stern.

An incredible criminal defense attorney with everything you could ask for in one - honest, intelligent, hard-working, charismatic, and compassionate. I was in a hopeless and extremely difficult situation facing decades in prison on charges as worse as they get, and after consulting several other lawyers, I only grew more hopeless. In the first consultation, Zach immediately stood out like a beacon of light among the rest, strategizing and coming up with concrete plans of attack to beat my case. In the end, he was able to get me an amazing outcome without any prison. Zach knows his craft, and he will fight tooth and nail for your rights and your freedom, even in the most severe and complex of cases.

Bankruptcy is a process that takes patience and diligence to get through. When I met with Mr. O'Brien, I was in a bad financial situation and his guidance and advice helped to drastically improve my position in 5 years. I filed Chapter 13 with his representation and he worked to get me a very favorable monthly budget to manage repayments and still enable my day to day life. He's very good at his job. What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
