It is with profound respect and gratitude that I extend my heartfelt endorsement for Justin Walker, Jared Veliz, Lorrie Walker and the whole support team at Walker Law whose dedication, perseverance, and tireless advocacy have left an indelible mark on my life. Despite facing one of the largest corporations in the world, Justin and Jared stood resolute and fearless, embodying the very essence of bravery and commitment to justice. Throughout the legal proceedings, Jared and Justin demonstrated not only their exceptional legal acumen but also a deep sense of empathy and friendship that has greatly endeared them to me. Their readiness to confront formidable challenges and navigate complex legal landscapes was nothing short of inspiring. These are unique and special individuals—the kind of individuals you want with you in your foxhole during the most intense battles and scariest of times. Although the outcome was not entirely in our favor, the measure of their success is not merely found in the verdict, but in the relentless spirit and boundless energy they brought into advocating for me and my case. Their sacrifices, grit and devotion did not go unnoticed, and their steadfast dedication continues to resonate with me and all who have the privilege of knowing them. Justin, Jared and the whole Walker Law team are not just my attorneys; they have become my honored allies, friends and trusted advisors. Their profound commitment to their clients and the cause of justice makes them truly commendable and deserving of the highest praise. Before, during and after trial, Justin Walker displayed the most genuine and heartfelt concern for my well-being and the well-being of my family. He did so even when it would have been understandable, reasonable and justified to instead only focus on his own well-being or that of his team members and family. I love the individuals I’ve been privileged enough to spend time with during this journey. I thank God that Justin, Jared, Lorrie and their team have come into my life. I recommend Walker Law to anyone seeking the very highest level of legal expertise and advocacy. Their professionalism and integrity are exemplary, and they represent the best of what the legal profession has to offer.

This lawyer makes money on suing small business for no reason. He should be reported to bar. I have no idea how this cuntslut sleeps at night. This guy sends lawsuits to hotels where the guest has not even stayed.

The Parkman Law Firm solved my legal issue quickly and kept the costs low. The attorney estimated my costs and discussed each step in the case with me. This firm told me at the start that the goal was to resolve my case quickly to keep the legal costs low and I am very satisfied with the outcome.

He answers your case questions once when you hire him. But then wouldn't notify / answers your calls and emails about progress on the case. Provided me with misleading info just to get rid off me till the hearing. And then when the hearing date come up , he told me completely different scenarios of outcome for which I sure was not prepared for based on what I heard from him previously. I wouldn't even hire him if he told me that before. What a waste.

Keith fights the good fight. If you are innocent and want to prove it, then look no further. Whether it is injustice at the hands of a peace officer, a misdemeanor or criminal charges, Keith delivers. He did so for me and got my case dismissed from court without a glitch. Now the plaintiffs have become the defendants and we are fighting the good fight together against injustice. Keith is trustworthy, responsive, knowledgeable and meticulous. I highly recommend him as an attorney.

George Schraer is an excellent attorney, with 40+ years of experience in law. I have been a client of George since 2018, and continue to retain George for any legal matters in which we need counsel. Whenever I have queries, George always responds swiftly, in fact within a few minutes, and provides additional guidance and support. After having experienced ineffective and incompetent attorneys in the past, who had promised the world and delivered nothing, George's counsel was a welcome relief. Rather than taking our money at the first opportunity, George initially declined to represent my husband Dylan on appeal. This was also a huge part of what stood out to us about George. We didn't feel he was striving to sell us his service, but rather, gave us the confidence that we could depend on him to provide a rigorous review of Dylan's case. So we convinced George to draft a commutation application on Dylan's behalf. He did exemplary work in that regard, and took it upon himself to review Dylan's trial transcripts. To our excitement, George pointed out an issue which has become the focus of an appeal and relief in my husband's case. I would highly recommend George to anybody in a similar situation. George is reliable, straightforward, and his work is highly invaluable. The following is a statement from my incarcerated husband, Dylan: "George Schraer helped me put together a great commutation and found a crucial arguable issue for me in my case. I give this guy 5 stars. Awesome work. I have had bad luck with lawyers prior to George. I finally caught a break. George was great and helped me astronomically. Thanks George. If you ever read this, kudos to you. Dylan"

I hired Mr Schraer to help with litigation for a friend of mine with a very serious sentence. Mr. Schraer promise a lot but deliver little. He postponed his work with the case with endless excuses. "I'll start next week, I'm on this in two weeks, I'm a little delayed but hope to get this done next month and so on". When we are on a critical time limit this is not the way to do it. When he finally reviewed our case 6 months later than promised he found nothing he could use. Very convenient if you ask me, then he didn't have to bother doing any real work or investigation on the case, even if it had obvious issues. Luckily I was able to terminate the contract with Mr Schraer and move on to another lawyer who was interested in helping us.

Mr. George Schraer had selected the inncorrect date that Trial had started. He chose a date of the Pre Trial Motions, 402 Hearing as the start of Trial. It was not a mistake because it was pointed out to him and he still did not make the change or correct this critical date. Critical because this was an appeal and if corrected to the actual start of Trial Date, it would increase the time to an additional 5 days. However, even when he was told and faced with the facts of when trials actualy start, and would not change the date. The Judge, DA and Defense Attorney all state in the transcripts when trial began but George failed and kept his trial date which was incorrect.

After being referred by a friend, I came to Mr. Spencer during a conflict with a former landlord. My interactions with Mark were consistently positive. While I felt vulnerable and anxious about any outcomes- he remained even keeled with a unique ability to remain compassionate and non- judgmental. Mr. Spencer's ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner with the defendant and myself paved the way for a great outcome. As any lawsuit is stressful simply because of the ambiguity, he put me at ease that he can handle any curveballs with a solid knowledge base, timeliness and grounded responses.. I would, and do, recommend any friend of mine to contact Mr. Spencer for their legal needs.

I was involved in a bicycle accident with a large truck that left me with a complete fracture of my fibula. The injury required the insertion of a plate and screws, and many months of rehab. A cycling friend recommended Amanda to me, and since she is a cyclist herself, it meant I would have someone representing me that had experience on the bike as well. Amanda was very well versed in the rights of cyclists, and made sure I received a fair settlement for my injury. She handled every aspect of my case and kept me updated so I could focus on my recovery.

Mr. Garland showed up disheveled and either drunk or hungover at my custody hearing. He was totally unprepared, and had not read or responded to my ex-wife's declaration to the court, which was full of lies. I saw her declaration for the first time at the hearing. Because of his incompetence, I lost custody of my kids that day. After the hearing he said, "well, it's not all bad, you can see them during the summers." It is a miracle I didn't knock him out cold right then and there. I should have sued him for malpractice. If you are even remotely considering hiring him --- DON'T.

Divorce is always a difficult experience and having the proper attorney to help you navigate the court system is a must. Months after my last court date I hadn't yet received a final judgement draft so I send the attorney an email inquiring about it. After numerous emails back and forth one of his responses to me was, "You are divorced, its just paperwork." I disagreed with him stating I didn't have any county recorded paperwork. He then replied, "The paperwork doesn't matter." I continued to request that the final judgement and paperwork be sent for the Judge's approval and County recording immediately. His final email to me was, "The paperwork's done. I hope you are happy now."

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
