If you are looking for a bankruptcy attorney Mr. Beaver is the one to hire. He knows his stuff. He's friendly and funny. He updates you as soon as he knows anything about your case. The first time I walked into his office for the initial consultation I was so stressed out about everything. By the time I left his office I was feeling so much better. I would highly recommend him in a heartbeat! Update: My bankruptcy was discharged last week. Mr. Beaver is an awesome attorney. He kept me updated every step of the way. He was very easy to get in touch with whenever I had a question. He always responded quickly to my emails. He's definitely worth every penny I paid.

I recently had a negative experience with a different divorce lawyer, and I parted ways with that lawyer. I was referred to Jay Galmiche by one of my employees who knew the Galmiche family growing up. I have to say that Jay was nothing short of amazing. He accomplished more in three months than my other lawyer had accomplished in four months. My previous attorney was not good communicating or returning e-mails/phone calls in a timely manner. Jay excels in this department. He would call or e-mail me long before I even thought I needed to contact him for an update on the proceedings. Jay is extremely professional, courteous, empathetic and thoughtful. I highly recommend Jay Galmiche and his team to anyone needing a good divorce attorney.

J.J. Galmiche was amazing from the beginning! He helped me get 50/50 custody of my kids. He worked with me on payments and helped me along the way when I had questions on things. He listened to what I wanted and did nothing without asking. Amazing lawyer and would recommend to anyone!

I found Mr. Jay Galmiche, Attorney=-at -law, to be very good to work with. Unlike other attorneys I have consulted Jay is a un- assuming person with a humble spirit. He listened to my needs, understood my situation and laid out a plan that would work in my best interest and resolve the situation as quickly as possible. Jay would offer options, but never attempted to over-ride my will or intentions.. Jay understood my situation, expressing not only sympathy but empathy as well. Many thanks to jay Galmiche, I can hjighly recommend him If you have any legal needs Dennis Bauer By the way, my situation was a family matter.

An attorney that actually responds to you. Any text or email I had with a question, and he was on it usually within minutes but always before the end of the day. I felt he worked hard getting me the most money out of my car accident. I can not say enough positive things about hiring Chris Dixon.

My wife and I worked with Chris Cox to create a comprehensive estate plan. He was highly knowledgeable and took the time to understand our situation, think through various "what if" situations and provide recommendations that were incredibly helpful. The process was very straight forward and he remained super responsive to all our follow up questions. He also took time to make certain we understood "next steps" around how to fund our trust. We would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for estate planning services. Amazing experience!

I think this attorney needs more experience under his belt. Wasted my time in a case. Couldn’t take the time to read, or understand documentation correctly. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone. Took a chance on him, and he bailed after having clear proof from 5 different doctors. He said that he wasn’t experienced enough or has the resources for my case. That I needed to seek a larger law firm with more experienced in malpractice attorney’s. Wow!!

Wasted 2 years telling us we had a good case. Within the first year they stated it was taking them so long because they didn’t have my mother’s medical records. Then they dragged it out until the statute of limitations was reached. It’s states in clear words why my mom died on her death certificate and we were told by Kurt this was a very good case and the medical malpractice was within the first 4 pages of her being admitted! There’s so much proof and documentation to prove malpractice and still nothing ! We had a good case until the last minute when they were about to file the lawsuit then they call stuttering barely explaining why they were dropping the case! I would NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY ! YOU FAILED MY MOTHER HER GRANDKIDS AND HER FAMILY!!! 1000/10 WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM! A WASTE OF 2 YEARS!!! THEN THEY SENT BACK ONLY HALF THE MEDICAL RECORDS AND KEEP SAYING THEY SENT EVERYTHING BACK AN IVE WENT THROUGH THEM SO MANY TIMES AND HALF OF THEM ARE MISSING !!! I CANT SAY WHAT I BELIEVE THEYRE DOING BUT PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS COMPANY !!! I AM BEGGING YOU !!!

Sader Law has been an incredible team to work with as we were navigating stressful and insurmountable student loan debt. For some context, the original loan amount started at $150K, which is already a large sum. However we faced job loss right after graduation and as payments on the loans were to begin. Long story short, after years of no to low income and constant deferment, the interest and fees inflated the loans to over half a million dollars. A monthly payment of $4k was expected otherwise we would face damaging wage garnishment. This was such a devastating situation and we had no hope of a way out. We knew we needed to find a firm that specializes in student loan debt and came across Sader Law Firm. We connected with Neil Sader who was very compassionate towards our situation and talked us through the possible next steps we could take. It was the first time in a long time that we felt we had some hope in such a difficult situation.  We were soon paired with Stephan Skepnak, the awesome associate attorney with Sader Law, and worked through a solid action plan. He advised us on how to connect with the loan holders and convert our loans so that they could not only be properly consolidated for the most optimal repayment plan, but also deferred under the current moratorium. Stephan was always very open and honest; always presenting us with the best path forward and one that would benefit us in the long run.  The team at Sader truly cares for their clients and were willing to invest the time and energy to place us in the best position for long term success. We'll be continuing to work with them in the future and I cannot recommend them highly enough!

I am very impressed with Cook Ellis LLC. They were able to quickly understand what I needed in changing my will, giving me several options. They, especially Aaron Cook who I worked with, was very knowledgeable about property, wills, and possible future problems. It was very easy to discuss personal matters with him. Their office was convenient right off S. Lynn Court in Independence, Missouri. Before I left the office, I had both a notarized Power of Attorney and a Quit Claim Deed. Fast and a fair price! I highly recommend Cook Ellis LLC.

My case was a Modification and I was defending a status quo Judgment that had been set up via trial in another state in 2019. The Modification ended up extensive and contentious, but Jill remained ethical, competent, and compassionate throughout. Homeschooling and religious freedom were important and she was able to win on both. I am so grateful to her that she kept fighting and believing. I definitely recommend using her and her office (thanks especially to Audri and Bonnie!) for any family law needs.

⚠️CAUTION‼️ After reading the positive reviews on Todd my wife and I thought he might be a safe bet. WE SHOULD’VE PAID ATTENTION TO ALL HIS NEGATIVE REVIEWS and saved ourselves a nightmare experience! We met with him for 2 hours, explained our desperate - time constraining situation, and begged for his help and protect legally. He said he would, and he gave us his word as we shook hands, and paid him $5000.00 that he required, THEN WE NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN for 36 days!!! So my wife called and left a voice message but STILL DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM HIM!!! On the 41st day of STILL NOT HEARING from Todd, she called again and his secretary talked to him while putting her on hold - BUT HE STILL WOULDN’T TALK TO HER! She said - “he said he will call you RIGHT BACK”. He NEVER CALLED MY WIFE! The next day, (day 42) my wife drove half an hour to his office to get there at 8am and asked for our $5000.00 dollars back. My wife said the secretary called Todd and all he said was “ok”. After that, on 7/12/24, my wife received a phone call from Todd and we discussed each other's position and Todd said that he would be willing to help us again. My wife and I told him only if he would agree to bill us hourly instead of $5000 dollars and communicate to the opposing party, and to us, in a reasonable timely matter. Todd agreed to that. It wasn’t until Monday morning (7/22) of not getting anywhere with Todd that my wife sent him a lengthy email stating our concerns and displeasure over our entire experience, and he only replied “We will address your topics pursuant to the attached service agreement. Please sign and return it at your earliest convenience.” and finally sent us the contract to sign. However, his contract did not state the terms and conditions that we agreed upon and stated that we would pay him another $5000 dollars instead of being billed hourly! So, my wife had to again email him inquiring why his new contract did not state our agreement. Our anxiety, frustration level, trust, and faith at this point through all the nonsense was through the roof. On Tuesday (7/23) Todd sent a contract correctly stating our terms of agreement and my wife and I signed and returned it stating – “My husband and I were hoping that we could come down and meet with you at your next soonest time because a few things have changed and I need to show you some things and it would be rather difficult to try and explain it in a email if that is ok with you? We will try and accommodate your schedule to come at your next available opportunity.” By the following Monday 29th, after not ever hearing back from Todd to get his next available appointment time, we decided that it was not going to be in our best interest to proceed forward with Todd due to his inability to maintain reasonable lines of communication, inability to perform one single task for us since May 29th, inability to perform any task for us in a timely manner, inability to uphold terms agreed upon and changing them for his benefit after the fact, and causing us almost 3 months of complete wasted time causing escalated anxiety, worry, and stress. SO HE STICKS US WITH A $480. BILL! It was completely irresponsible, inconsiderate, unprofessional, and incompetent in our opinion. Not only did he not keep his word that we shook on, but he cost us wasted time on the case and added problems that my wife filed a complaint with the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, as there is an issue with Supreme Court Rule #’s - 4-1.3 Diligence, 4-1.4 Communication, and 4-1.5 Fees. And contacted the Better Business Bureau to hopefully protect others from going through what he put us through. We feel that there’s an endless sea of lawyers out there, so take caution when considering this one. We had very high hopes just to be duped!

I had to file bankruptcy case and there was no other choice for me then to go back to Adams Law group and work with them. There are many fly-by-night attorneys out there that are willing to take your money but not explain the process and personalize things to your needs- all of the attorneys as well as paralegals and assistants are amazing at this office and would not take my legal needs Anywhere else. Extremely rude. Had no answers acted like it was a waste of his time to speak with me. He wouldn’t have spoke to me like that in person. I would never give them any kind of business. Don’t waste your time calling them. They have no clue what they are doing. They just want to poke fun at you. I wish I would have been there in person. Luckily it was only a phone call. There is no way that rating he has is accurate. He must have his interns writing reviews. What a joke of a lawyer. He definitely has a god complex. Good luck Mr. Doyle. Your definitely just another number to him, go somewhere else even if it cost you some money. He didn’t give any advice whatsoever. Just made fun of my situation and called me cheap. Then wanted $500 to look at some paperwork. What a joke and extremely rude! Get some manners sir! Or someone someday will teach you some! Whether you want them too or not!

I was recommended to use Doug as my lawyer by another attorney that my parents had used for an adoption! He has been a fantastic recommendation. He’s very dedicated and committed to his cases. Doug is very easy to communicate with. He ALWAYS picked up the phone when I called, and answered my emails in a quick manner. I’ve had to contact him on the weekend, for an emergency, and he didn’t hesitate to help me out. I had a very complex child custody case, and he was able to manage it’s complexity in it’s entirety. He worked well with the GALs involved and my opposing parties lawyers’. Most importantly, Doug listened to my concerns and advocated for his client. He would explain everything well, and would answer any and all of my questions. Although I was a nervous wreck walking in and out of that courthouse, I was able to confide in Doug’s ability to represent me at each court date. He truly made me feel like my case mattered and I’m so thankful for all the work he has done on my case.

Kevin is the exception....he helped me out about 10 years ago when I was in a very difficult situation. Kevin, not someone that was sent in to take notes, sat down with me himself and went over everything with me, telling me what I needed to do step by step. He then told me not to worry. I took Kevin's advice and he helped get me out of a very stressful situation. Recently I had to give Kevin a call about another situation. Remembering that I worry a lot in stressful situations, Kevin again told me not to worry! He told me what I needed to do to correct the situation and said to call him when I got that done which I did. He told me how the laws protect me and said he would handle it from there. If you want personal attention, want to have your questions answered and want someone that will actually be in your corner, Kevin and his team are your people!

What a Bankruptcy Lawyer Can Do for You

A bankruptcy lawyer specializes in helping individuals and businesses manage overwhelming debt by filing for bankruptcy or exploring alternatives to bankruptcy. They guide clients through the complex legal process of discharging or restructuring debts, represent them in court, and work to protect assets such as homes and cars. Bankruptcy lawyers can also help stop creditor harassment, wage garnishment, and foreclosures through bankruptcy protections.

If you're facing financial hardship, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you decide whether filing for bankruptcy is the right option and assist you through the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Bankruptcy Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a bankruptcy lawyer in the following situations:

  • Unmanageable debt: If you're unable to pay your bills and debts are piling up, a lawyer can help you explore options such as Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  • Foreclosure or repossession: If your home is at risk of foreclosure or your vehicle is in danger of being repossessed, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you use bankruptcy protections to prevent this and potentially reorganize your debts.
  • Wage garnishment: If your wages are being garnished, filing for bankruptcy can stop garnishments and allow you to regain control of your finances.
  • Creditor harassment: If creditors are constantly calling or sending collection notices, a bankruptcy lawyer can stop these actions by filing for bankruptcy, which enacts an automatic stay that halts collection activities.
  • Small business debt: If your business is struggling with debt and cannot meet financial obligations, a lawyer can help you file for Chapter 11 (reorganization) or Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy.
  • Medical debt or credit card debt: If you have large amounts of unsecured debt like medical bills or credit card balances, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you seek relief through Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Hiring a bankruptcy lawyer early in the process can prevent further financial damage and help you choose the best legal option for debt relief.

What Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Do?

A bankruptcy lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals and businesses handle their debts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Evaluating your financial situation: Assessing your income, assets, debts, and expenses to determine if bankruptcy is the right option and which type of bankruptcy (Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11) best suits your situation.
  • Filing bankruptcy petitions: Preparing and filing the necessary documents to initiate your bankruptcy case, ensuring that all legal requirements are met.
  • Stopping creditor harassment: Once the bankruptcy case is filed, an automatic stay is enacted, which stops creditors from pursuing collection efforts. A lawyer ensures this protection is applied immediately.
  • Representing you in court: Representing you in court proceedings, including meetings with creditors and any hearings related to your case.
  • Negotiating with creditors: In Chapter 13 or Chapter 11 bankruptcies, negotiating a repayment plan that restructures your debts and allows you to manage payments more effectively.
  • Advising on asset protection: Guiding you on how to protect certain assets, such as your home or retirement savings, through available bankruptcy exemptions.
  • Explaining the impact on your credit: Informing you about how bankruptcy will affect your credit and advising on steps to rebuild your credit post-bankruptcy.

How Are Bankruptcy Lawyers Paid?

Bankruptcy lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways depending on the complexity of the case and the type of bankruptcy being filed. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many bankruptcy lawyers charge a flat fee for handling Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. This fee usually covers the entire process, from preparing and filing paperwork to representing you in court.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as Chapter 11 bankruptcy (often used by businesses), some lawyers charge an hourly rate. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Retainer: In cases where ongoing legal services are required, such as in Chapter 11 bankruptcies or complex Chapter 13 cases, a lawyer may request a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront, as bankruptcy law requires lawyers to disclose all fees and ensure they are reasonable and fair.

How Much Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a bankruptcy lawyer varies depending on the type of bankruptcy and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy: For individuals, legal fees usually range from $1,000 to $3,500. This flat fee generally covers the entire process.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy: For individuals filing Chapter 13, legal fees typically range from $2,500 to $6,000. This cost is higher because of the additional work required to create and manage the repayment plan.
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy (for businesses): Chapter 11 bankruptcy is more complex and usually more expensive, with legal fees ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the size of the business and the complexity of the debt restructuring.
  • Filing fees: In addition to legal fees, there are also court filing fees, which are $338 for Chapter 7 and $313 for Chapter 13 as of 2024.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand what services are included and whether payment plans are available.

Top Questions to Ask a Bankruptcy Lawyer

Before hiring a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and knowledge to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with bankruptcy cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or hourly rate, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs, including filing fees and additional expenses.
  3. Which type of bankruptcy is best for me?
Ask the lawyer to explain whether Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 is the best option based on your financial situation and long-term goals.
  4. What debts can be discharged?
Ask which of your debts will be forgiven through bankruptcy and which debts (such as certain taxes or student loans) may not be dischargeable.
  5. How long will the process take?
Bankruptcy cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last, from filing to discharge.
  6. Will I be able to keep my assets?
Ask if you will be able to keep important assets, such as your home or car, and what exemptions might apply.
  7. What happens after bankruptcy?
Ask about the impact of bankruptcy on your credit score and what steps you can take to rebuild your credit after the bankruptcy is finalized.

How to Check the Credibility of a Bankruptcy Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable bankruptcy lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for bankruptcy experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in bankruptcy law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and ability to handle bankruptcy cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on bankruptcy matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for lawyers who are members of organizations such as the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) or who have specialized bankruptcy law certifications.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of debts: Prepare a detailed list of all your debts, including credit cards, personal loans, medical bills, and any secured debts such as mortgages or car loans.
  • Income and expense records: Bring documents that show your current income, such as pay stubs or tax returns, and a list of your monthly expenses, including rent, utilities, and other essential costs.
  • Asset information: Provide information on any assets you own, such as your home, car, investments, or other valuable property.
  • Credit reports: If possible, bring copies of your credit reports to give the lawyer a clear view of your financial situation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions you have about the bankruptcy process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect after filing for bankruptcy.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
