The process of winning a disability case can be complex and confusing. I needed representation here in the Texas Hill Country. Local experts referred me to Roxana K Orrell. She is highly educated on the legal system and knows what is needed to win. The outcome of a disability case can have a significant impact on a person's financial stability and quality of life. Ms. Orrell made a substantial impact on my disability case.

Roxana Orrell was a pleasure to work with. She was such a great help in my son’s social security disability appeal. She is so knowledgeable, competent, professional and “results oriented.” She has the experience and was able to understand our personal situation and help me through the process. She was able to listen to my questions and provide answers in words I could understand. I would highly recommend her.

I was involved in a Real Estate transaction with Mr. Carlson't client. Mr Carlson was fast to respond to all communication including phone calls and emails, always pleasant and didn't re-write every document we submitted (unlike some attorneys). Way above average to work with.

Mr. Carlson was invaluable during the settling of my family’s estate. All the heirs lived outside of Texas. Mr. Carlson managed all the paperwork and proceedings in the local court. My father died with an outdated set of instructions, and Mr. Carlson gave us excellent advice to help remedy this problem. We are thankful for his assistance.

I have never forgotten this laywers name! I was a stupid 18 year old kid caught with brass knuckles. It was the first time I'd been arrested. He told me that would not be something I want on my record (AND HELL YEAH HE WAS RIGHT). He told me not to worry, he can help me out. And true to his word he beat the case! But the biggest thing I remember is his willingness to work with me. I was a broke 18 yr old but with a job. He gave me a MORE THAN fair price and I paid him in payments. I stayed true to my word and EVERY week sent him a payment. I havent screwed up since then and everytime a record check comes out clean I thank Mr. Delk in my head! NO LIE! If you have been arrested in Hondo, YOU NEED TO HIRE THIS GUY!!

Gladly took my retainer. Billed me for administrative costs, Neglected my case for over a year. Returned, via mail, a small balance of retainer in the way of a check. Later billed me $45 for breach of contract???Confused why he didn’t deduct the $45 from balance of retainer he returned. Now faced with finding a capable attorney to pursue original case.Don’t recommend him for civil issues (construction/theft of services). Heard he’s ok for DUI.

Craig represented me in a Texas state court against a fraudulent car seller. His meticulous preparation and clear understanding of the law led to a swift and favorable verdict, granting us all that we asked for. The process was smooth, and the outcome was exactly what we hoped for. I had a great experience working with him and won't hesitate to call him again for any future legal needs.

No matter what your needing do NOT hire this attorney. Very unprofessional, is late and does not care. Just wants the money. My case did not go the way it actually should have gone! 5 years after this lawyer I was able to hire a better lawyer who actually got what I deserved and helped my child get out of a domestic violence situation and much more. Please do not waste your time or money. I wish I would have done my research the first time.

If I could give "0" stars I would! When Mrs. Perry was assigned to me, I made several attempts to meet with her and call her, and every time I was told "She didn't have the time to speak with me or meet with me". She drug my case out for almost a year until I finally had enough and confronted her and spoke my mind (it wasn't pretty!) She then FINALLY met with me, and during that meeting it was obvious she had no idea about my cases. The meeting ended up being productive and I felt better about her representation. I met with her husband who gave me instructions about the format to present the evidence (because I was getting all the evidence together for my defense) during a restitution hearing. I did exactly as he told me. When I was told to bring in the evidence to her office, I did. When we get to court she informs me that she can't understand what I had prepared. She then told the DA that we didn't have any evidence to prove the discrepancies of restitution. The DA then refused to give me a restitution hearing. I was in shock because she did have the evidence! It was how her husband told me to format it, and it didn't take a rocket science to interpret. This lady basically had evidence of some of my innocence and never presented it! I don't call that representation. She preceded to inform me that I would have to now hire an attorney to have the restitution hearing. At least now I can get a REAL attorney that will truly represent my best interest and be my advocate. PLEASE be aware of this lady! UDATE: She has refused to give me the records I gave her or give me my file. This is an ethics issue with the State Bar of Texas. I have filed a grievance against her.

Deborah Perry and her staff are extremely unprofessional, argumentative, aggressive, and discriminatory. I visited the law office on behalf of their client because they refused to answer the numerous phone calls I made. When I visited the office in person, the front desk assistant was automatically defensive. She told me verbatim that “we don’t work on your schedule”. She then began to verbally accost me and threatened to kick me out after I respectfully requested to have a meeting with Deborah. Avoid this law office and Deborah at all costs. They will give you dehumanizing, unprofessional treatment.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
