My experience with Powers Law was professional and caring. After my car accident I was overwhelmed and unsure of my legal rights. Vince helped me understand my opinions. His dedication to my case resulted in a settlement that exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Powers Law.

I called them to learn more about their marketing values, but I was hoping to also connect with someone on a case that I had. I got a very rude response that they’re not interested in any marketing and just hung up on me. It was just a very backward way of communication. Just lack of professionalism? At least take a phone call. I didn’t even get the opportunity to say why I was really calling. I never leave a review, but this one was just not a great experience. I went ahead and just called a different lawyer and they spoke with me. They are handling my case and I got to learn a little bit about their marketing. If anyone from Powers actually reads this, every one of us in Lincoln are your potential clients. And professionalism is of the upmost importance.

This is the worst firm I have ever seen. They could care less about their clients and tenants. Towed a car of a tenant of theirs that was parked in the parking lot without giving them a call or email first. When told that tenant would give 30 day notice if car was towed. Owner said he didn't care while posturing and getting in his face. Absolutly without question mean people with an attitude of unscrupulous, unkind, nasty, unpleasant, spiteful, malicious, unfair, cruel, shabby, foul, despicable, contemptible, obnoxious, vile, and odious thoughts and actions. I would advise not to lease anything, especially any office space from these indiviuals or firm. Would be detrimental to your wallet not to mention your health and possibly your safety.

My experience with Cada, Cada, and Jewson, acting on behalf of a debt collector (PCR), was extremely disheartening. Rather than engaging in a good-faith effort to resolve the matter, they seemed solely interested in pushing the collector's agenda with no intention of settling. I spoke with Doug, who blatantly lied, claiming to have called me multiple times when, in reality, he hadn’t. It's absurd to think that such tactics can pass as professional conduct. As an academic business professor, I find it deeply troubling that the current legal system allows debt collectors and their legal representatives to get away with questionable practices (they subpoenaed my mother-in-law, overall acted like a big bully), and in other states, such behavior would never be tolerated. It’s only a matter of time before this approach catches up with them. I ended up paying an extra $80 plus my debt since PCR is collecting court cost fees for the Zoom motion to trial I attended with Judge Reuter (Courtroom 21). Unfortunately, I lost the focus to fight this battle, but I sincerely hope someone will have the energy to push this fight to the end and set a legal precedent. All in all, there's a lot of shady business going on to collect debt with no room to suggest the original firm (Gastroenterology Associates of Nebraska and Lincoln Digestive Health) did anything wrong. These two firms or entities are considered one at the time of practicing, but two when billing. Also, the firm gave a colonoscopy that should have been free but cost a fortune. It's crazy that a one minute change in the doctor's office's practice lead to this huge headache. PCR decided very early on that they were going to take me to court, probably because they saw my good credit. I hope you are stronger than me and can fight them to the end.

Lisa knew that accepting a plea deal was not in our families' best interest but somehow she was able to convince my husband to accept a plea deal which I had told her and him that I would divorce him if he did. Now my husband is in an appeal process but this deal that he accepted could cause him to be a sex offender for life and/or never be able to be free in the US again because he will not be able to proceed with gaining permanent status in the US as he was an immigrant when I married him. I do not believe Lisa earned the money that we paid her. My family and I have been trying to get the money back from Lisa that we gave her but she will not respond to our numerous messages or return any of our phone calls. Somehow my husband was rushed into court less than 24 hours after agreeing to accept the plea but for other court dates we waited months and months. His court was in the morning and the night before Lisa had received more evidence from the prosecution, Lisa claims she was not able to open the file so didn't know what had been sent to her but rather than asking for a continuance or bringing it up at all she proceeded with locking my husband into that plea deal which I had clearly communicated was not in our families' best interest. It takes a lot of work to be prepared for trial and it's clear that Lisa didn't want to have to do that, by the time my husband accepted the plea deal nearly two years after his initial arrest and over 2 years after the alleged crime Lisa should have had plenty of time to go through all evidence and talk to my husband's witnesses but she had not. Based on our experience with her I would not recommend her services.

John Duggar is the most arrogant person I’ve ever met in my life. Displays a sense of contempt that is so off-putting I couldn’t even get through an initial visit. He seemed more interested in asking rude questions in a demeaning manner instead of listening to my situation. Everything about his facial expression, voice and body language signaled contempt. If you want a bad day to get worse than John Duggar is definitely your man.

She didn’t listen, just did her own thing regardless of the clients needs. Charged me for every different form she could find. Lost my documents and was late with court deadlines. In the courtroom she stumbled and couldn’t come up with a strong question for the life of her. She kept asking g the judge about what exhibit what was. Embarrassing! I think there should be a way to get your money back. Reduculous

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
