I would never work with this company based on their lack of morals, rude employees, sheer lack of professionalism, and because of their abusive and harassing behaviors. They have been calling my place of employment for over TWO YEARS trying to convince us to sign up for their service. We have politely declined each time, and have now spoken to 4 separate "supervisors" who assured us that we would be placed on their do not call list. To date, I have had Legalmatch employees curse at me, insult me individually, and repeatedly call back (5+ times) after I ended calls where they were behaving abusively. They have even spoken directly with my boss, the attorney, who has said in no uncertain terms that the firm will NEVER work with or take client referrals from them due to their behavior, yet they continue to endlessly call and harass all of us at the office. If anyone from your company is reading this, your employee identifying himself as "Ty Jones" was one of the worst offenders. He used some of the most vulgar language I have ever been on the receiving end of when calling and was a repeated caller as well. My review is my own and the opinions contained herein are not a reflection of, or in any way representative of, my employer's (or anyone else's) views or opinions. Edit: I'm positive I have the correct company, considering every single representative who has identified where they're calling from has clearly said "LegalMatch" and I have also asked multiple of them to spell out letter for letter both the company name and the company website.

Updating to respond to the owner's comment: Yes I am quite sure I have the right company. Their response is a perfect example of the gaslighting and lies they will use to scam you. This company is a scam. I am an attorney and I would rather go out of business than work with these people. Once they find your business, they will call your office nonstop pretending to be an attorney who is looking for another attorney to take over their caseload. By the way, their "leads" are garbage. Most of the time, the lead isn't even a real person; it's a made-up scenario to scam you into paying for their referral service. They've never gotten a penny out of me, which I assume is why they won't leave me alone. I've blocked so many numbers, but they always have more. It's gotten so bad I am actually looking to bring a harassment suit against them.

If I could give this lawyer a zero that is what she deserves. Father refuses to work to support the child, father belittles mom infront of child, lawyer given proof father is mentally abusive to mother....court ordered job requirement not enforced...lawyer forces deals on mother that slander family... Everyone is told to be patient while the clent and her family get trampled on.. If you want your family destroyed, this is the lawyer for you.

We contacted 6 Las Vegas area attorneys before getting a referral to Sagebrush. All others stated that they had no idea how to handle the case, but asked for a hefty retainer nonetheless. Christopher Carson, with his expertise in construction law, was the only person who asked to see the damage to the house in person. Chris and Trent have been open and forthcoming from their fee structure to proofreading I generated. We have gone as far as we could on our own, and now will contact Sagebrush for representation taking the matter in Federal court. Sagebrush is honest, which is the highest complete I can offer

Please take caution! I hired Trent as a court room lawyer! My amazing attorney was moving and I ended up with NIGHTMARE TRENT! He lied from the beginning and didn't even copy a paper of mine!! This evil man did everything I didn't ask and included 2 cases in a one and only chance to settle. He gave himself more than 1/3 after a blackmail deal after excluding me from my own mediation. Evil Trent told me he doesn't get paid to keep my job and doesn't get paid to get me benefits, "I can pay them out of my own pocket"! I hired a lawyer for peace of mind! I was in the fetal position for over a week! I refused the deal because its not what I wanted! HE QUIT! I never spent more than 3 hours talking to him that included a rushed here's the paperwork. I had zero representation and was not brought back to work and Trent didn't pick up the phone! Trent made me want to die!! I was left at home with a lawyer who ruined my only mediation and my job if 24 years. He did though attach a suit that if I received anything he was entitled to it! Trent QUIT WITH NO IF!!! HE JUST QUIT !!Trent threatened my previous attorneywho was leaving town, who tried to help me fix the damage! He threatened him with legal actions! I was aloud only the original paperwork that he didn't even write up , the other party wrote it!! His name was on it. He only represented me in 2 cases but blacked mailed his way into 4 cases settled. Two he only represented me in. I was forced to take him to the STATE BAR which was aware of what he was doing. I had to sign because I was alone with no job! He was forced to meet with me and this evil scammer would not give a CENT BACK FROM HIS SCAM. He was hired strictly for court. I got the mediation because this needed to be settle because my case was a preventable awful situation. I would to God I would have represented myself...He wouldn't give one cent back!! SAGEBRUSH HAS NO MORAL VALUES!! Please don't hire them in anyway!!! Trent was beyond a COLD NIGHTMARE.... !!!! HE GIVES A NEW MEANING TO THE WORD BOTTOM FEEDER !!! 100 percent true and any questions I would love to tell you more!! Although I only knew him for a few hours!!!

Tom Standish and his associates, mainly Phillip Spralding, do not practice evidence based law. They are scum bags, who pander to vulnerable females in difficult times to maximize their firms profits. They do not care about the best situation or well-being of children. They more focus on how they can exploit the imperfect system of family law for their maximum benefit. They are racist. I don’t know how they have such a high rating on this platform, but I strongly disagree. I hope this firm, and attorneys of this shallow caliber lose their credibility as soon as possible.

My Uncle was at one time Chief District Attorney of a major country in a large state ( I do not name due to being family) My Uncle referred me to Mr. Travis Barrick. I also studied law while in college. This gentleman makes sure he knows his law practice and is also updated to any changes in the government and state laws. Hands down I would always recommend him highly among other practices. He will always fright for the right of truth and justice for his client. The staff is also very friendly and very prompt to answer any questions pertaining to a case or potential case. They are great people!!

I met Mr. Barrick in Clark County "Veterans" court, he introduced me to his buddy and the both of them got my VA claim sorted-out and filed correctly, after years of hearing there was little help the VA Healthcare system could provide me, with Mr. Barrick and his staff's help I was re-evaluated by the VA and given an accurate disability rating. I went to the VA for help after 8yrs of service as a medic in Spec Ops. After years of injuries and bad-memories, after having a VA (narcoleptic) psychiatrist fall asleep in a session, the lies and delayed service I met someone who could help me. Travis Barrick (& Will) got a homeless-veteran back into society. Their friendship is lifelong.

Hired Mike Johnson to evict squatters that moved in with my elderly mother. He talked me into another procedure, a senior abuse one, and I agreed even though I knew my mother would fight it. He also talked very harshly to my mother who has dementia and mental health issues, resulting in her not wanting to have anything to do with him. I ended up spending over $2500 and the people are still living there over a year later. Total waste of money.

Ms Kern was retained by our HOA to help us stop an Airbnb from doing business in our condo complex. We, as individual owners, do Not feel she represented us as we are still having to find a way to make this condo owner Cease and Desist immediately. She found numerous reasons and ways the Airbnb condo owner Could continue operating But did Not help Us Stop this short term rental. Airbnb is a Business and we are not zoned for a business. And the people who are using Airbnbs are Transients and Not Residents; as our HOA requires in order to to live here. We should not have to rewrite our CC & Rs to limit rental times as it is already illegal for people who are Not Residents to live here Short term or longer if they do not meet our CC &Rs definition off a Resident! Any other rulings regarding Airbnbs Should not Supersede our CC&Rs as they were written 30 plus years ago......long before Airb&bs were even Invented!!!

I hired Attorney Leslie M. Stovall (Stovall & Associates) to handle a case involving Wiengarten Nostat, Inc., a real estate related legal case. I was frivolously sued for approximately $25,000 when someone I sold a small restaurant to sold it to someone else who ended up not paying their lease and the landlord came after everyone who owned that restaurant in the past. Attorney Stovall's conduct, in short, was to overbill. After receiving over $15,000 in legal fees, Attorney Stovall invoiced me in the additional amount of $20,030.59. To pay Attorney Stovall $35,030.59 is unreasonable. In addition, Attorney Stovall withdrew as my counsel of record on July 29, 2008 yet continued to bill me for unauthorized services over the past four years. This conduct clearly violates the ethical standards adopted by the Supreme Court of Nevada and specifically, Nevada's Rules of Professional Conduct.

Initially in the last quarter of 2006, I paid Attorney Stovall a retainer fee of $2,500. I agreed to pay the standard hourly rate for legal services until the legal fees began to approach (and later far exceed) the total amount in dispute. Attorney Stovall sued one of the parties and won a judgment from one of the defendants. I promptly asked Attorney Stovall's firm to enforce the judgment against Defendant in order to pay his legal fees. I informed Stovall that I was not going to be able to pay personally but that we can collect from the judgment for his fees and to recoup some of my legal expenses. He did not inform me but soon he withdrew as counsel and did not even finish the case.

Attorney Stovall assigned a series of junior lawyers, fresh out of law school, to provide legal services. The junior lawyers lacked knowledge of real estate industry and basic transactions. Lacking the technical and legal knowledge required, the junior lawyers frequently requested my technical expertise in real estate transactions law.
The assignment of junior lawyers did not provide me competent representation because the junior lawyers lacked the legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation reasonably necessary to represent my interests. In addition, Attorney Stovall did not keep me reasonably informed about the status of my case. In fact, I continuously asked for meetings to discuss the status of my case. When a prudent person compares the invoice amounts with results obtained, he/she would readily conclude the invoices are ludicrous.

Again, after paying $15,000.00 Attorney Stovall invoiced me for the amount of $20,030.59. The total amount ($35,030.59) charged for legal services is absurd. Further, Attorney Stovall continues to bill me. Attorney Stovall filed a Motion to Withdraw as Counsel of Record on July 29, 2012. The motion was granted. Attorney Stovall is not authorized by me to perform any legal services or to bill me because he has to prepare a defense for my complaint. When Attorney Stovall decided to withdraw as my legal counsel, he did not provide sufficient notice. The absence of sufficient notice left me to material adverse effects on my case. In fact, several critically important deadlines were missed.

Since July of 2008, Attorney Stovall has not been and is not today my lawyer. Yet, Attorney Stovall continues to bill me; that is, as if I were his client for four years. I believe this practice is both false and misleading and creates an unjustified expectation about not only the results the lawyer receives but the presentation of false "billing"... I have not authorized any legal services since July 20th, 2008. I think it is a reasonable standard for a lawyer's services, the statements and invoices to be truthful - not duplicitous.

He was retained but never worked my case for 8 months. Then found out he never submitted any documents to the District Attorneys office on my defense. The only discovery the DA had was a statement the plaintiff wrote. Then he made a plea deal an hour before the deadline with the District Attorneys office the day before the bench trial without my consent. I just can't recommend an attorney that requested so much documentation for 8 months then never submitted it. I will never pay another attorney in full when retaining them again.

Attention Real Estate Investors: I felt obligated to write this review for any fellow Nevadan investor considering the firm. Now I can’t speak for the entire firm. I worked specifically with Taylor Simpson. He was referred by a very talented and trusted associate in real estate, so I didn’t bother reading any reviews prior to visiting the office. In any event, I gave 2 stars because he’s appears to be a nice and competent lawyer. I have to assume his morals, workload or maybe laziness prevented him from doing his job in my case. During our initial consultation he listened patiently and although it took an hour long dialogue to get on the same page, I left confident that he completely understood my request. He charged a flat fee, which I thought included 3 documents. I found it reasonable, given the time we spent discussing the documents I needed updated. I took a photo of what was discussed and the documents to be delivered. It wasn’t that I didn’t trust him, I just don’t have the best memory and wanted to make sure I recalled what was discussed. I paid upfront…a mistake on my part….keep reading.. I was told it was 3 hours worth of work and I could expect the updated contracts and addendum in a week. 3 weeks passed and I had a property under contract that would use this specific deal structure, so I gave the office a call for an update. I called the front desk clerk 3 times that week and she was always polite and tried to get Mr. Simpson on the phone. She also explained he was out with COVID. Not to be callous, but I don’t see how that stops a young, healthy lad like him from reviewing a contract. I didn’t say this, but it was what I was thinking. In any event, another week and a half passed. Note: If you’re tracking this was about 5 weeks after I sat down with him for 2 documents to be updated and one created. All of which was supposed to take 3 hours, as stated by Mr. Taylor. Back to the story….now I finally got the paperwork back and nothing in the document really changed. It was effectively reformatted and a bunch of clauses added to protect the other party. He claimed that a few were intended to protect my interest, but were already included in the original document with different verbiage. When questioned on all the paragraphs added to protect the other party….crickets….literally no response….. I asked whether a clause could be added and is enforceable in Nevada, since he apparently was too busy to respond….again…crickets…. I called the front desk….she was very polite as usual…told me he had just left for lunch and would get back to me……again…you guessed it crickets….. So I paid Mr. Simpson above $999 to review documents and got a document that only protected the other party with no further explanation….I wont give the exact amount because I’m sure they’re rates will change with inflation running so hot…. My point is….Mr. Simpson…although seemingly intelligent and polite….either allows his morals to get in the way of doing his job….is unable to be fully transparent with his clients….is unable to have an honest dialogue….is uncomfortable with challenges via email…or just takes your money and chooses not to deliver…if you’re not a big ticket case…either way its not good for the typical real estate investor….Had I been a guy discussing a 100+ units, he may have handled it differently…money always talks in this town…but who knows….. Maybe be cautious and work with the firm when you have a very expensive case….and never pay the entire amount upfront…ask me how I know….Happy Investing.

Disappointed in the way Mr Thomson handled my boyfriend's case. If you take on a case and your client has OVER WHELMING evidence of wrong doing, along with a clear picture of what your client asks for, that means you believe in the case. You take it and fight for your client. Mr. Thomson asked for money with NO breakdown of costs or a bill. When confronted about his billing practices, he avoided the question. He said you can do things along the way to save on costs and made a promise to only take a certain amount of money from the PRESURED settlement, which he was told he could talk at and in the end told to be quiet and not allowed to speak. A promise and a hand shake to only take a certain amount of money should mean something. In the end he lied! Not right, do the right thing and and give him the money you owe him..

She had to consult with the senior partner to see if they could take the case on contingency. I never heard from her again. I called and called but she had always "just stepped out". Finally I just arranged to stop at the office and pick up the case documents I had given her, I finally did receive a letter offering to take the case for (a rather large) retainer and $200. to $300. per hour. Oh well, so much for justice for "the little guy" .

I was referred to this attorney by the Nevada State Bar Lawyer Referral service. After spending some time explaining my situation to his assistant, i was told that he would get back to me to give me a 1/2 hour consult for the fee of $45 as was outlined to me by the NSB Lawyer referral service. Some time later I received a call from his assistant where she informed me that he would not give me a consult, but when I asked for what reason and on what basis he refused to fulfill his commitment to the bar association, she said he did not say. In other words, he provided me no reason nor any basis for denying me this service for which he received a referral. This individual does not deserve to receive referrals from the Bar Association, and I can't imagine he is worthy of your trust and/or business. It's time for people to call out these callous, self-serving, unprofessional cads out there pretending to be decent human beings with no uncertain terms. John W. Thompson DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE A LAWYER IN THE STATE OF NEVADA OR ANY OTHER STATE, IMO.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
