I can't say enough about Grant Cook, representing me in two different cases. In two separate courts. One case against a landlord. The other a family court matter. I found him to be thorough and an excellent communicator. Kept me in the loop with information as he received it. He spoke in a way that gave me a clearer understanding of the laws as they pertained to my cases. I know it can be frustrating for some who hire other representation and feel out of the loop or spoken down to. Not so with Grant. He does an excellent job of focusing on what is most important in a case and kept me at ease. I was very pleased with the outcomes of my cases. Very sharp, trustworthy, and caring. If you are looking to hire a responsive, professional attorney to complete work for you, do not hire this person. Every single step takes weeks. The office is unresponsive and you can’t even speak directly to Mr Evans. You will be ignored for weeks, and then given excuses when they finally communicate with you about your case. There are better options in the area.

One of the two best intellectual property attorneys I've been associated with in my 50 years of business experience. Michelle pleaded our case concerning a trademark that was deemed by the trademark officer to be too similar in definition as to be an infringement. She convinced the reviewing officer that we would not be infringing and consequently we received our registered mark for the product.
In another instance she negotiated a co-existance agreement that could have cost us the trademark of our flagship product and, even convinced the other party to pay most of our legal expense.

Cannot express in words how great this firm is! Every single person i met and spoke with was kind, competent, and sincere. I had a scary charge on my hands, but with their reputation and expertise, we landed the very best possible outcome. Better the best actually...The firm worked as a team and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone with any type of legal trouble. The treat you with respect and like a person. They also allowed me time to get finances gathered in a considerate amount of time. My attorney literally said " I'm so focused on my clients and helping them, that sometimes the payments slip my mind." This guy had no idea what he was doing when he filed my case, he missed several federal laws that left me with over$15000 in debt that he assured me would be discharged in the chapter 7. He sure collected his fees though, even though he only got about $4000 discharged for me. Then he wouldn't help me refile or file an appeal with the bankruptcy court without, yup you guessed it, me giving him more money! I wish I could do my job completely wrong and incompetently and still get paid! If you're looking for a knowledgeable, communicative, responsible lawyer - keep looking.

We found Mr. Jacobson and his assistant, Jennifer, to be very respectful to us during a difficult time in our lives. They were supportive and understanding and actually made us feel better about a decision that was initially very uncomfortable to us. Completely ineffective, not responsive, allowed situation to escalate and get out of hand when a simple answer in the beginning of the process would have negated escalation, saving time and money. Stated things that were not true or not implemented and not followed through on. Misrepresented the truth and was wrong on several accounts but don’t bother to argue with him or contradict him as you are never right even in the presence of evidence. He pretends to have that authority to make you do things or impose rules not based in law or even practicality. You will notice that all the positive reviews are from men as this “Good Ole Boy” with an office strewn with Guns and Ammo magazine is not about equity but from the approach that the father in any given situation is the one in the right. A huge waste of time and money and not about equity or situation resolution.

Take notice of how he responded to clients on this site who disagreed with him or wrote a negative review. This is indicative of my experience. He started out as if he knows a lot, but ends up in a pile of fees with no results and defensiveness.
To be specific:
1) Did not respond in a timely manner to questions or sometimes not at all. 2) Submitted a hand-written draft of an official court document with lined out words and margin notes. I specifically stated that I wanted to discuss this document and the numbers before submission. 3) Scheduled and rescheduled hearings without consulting me to as to my availability or to even inform me that it had taken place. 4) Did not provide copies of court documents filed, correspondence to/from opposing counsel, nor copies of any discovery items supplied by the petitioner. 5) Failed to inform me of progress in the case, his strategy, what to expect in the process or any options I had available. 6) Sent an email requesting documents that I had sent a month earlier and billed me for it again. 7) Incompetently suggested we cancel a hearing and offer $1000/mo. in spousal support for life. He did not offer any alternatives or demonstrate a willingness to fight for me since my spouse had a professional degree and professional license with the ability to earn a living equal to mine. My new attorney negotiated a set, non-modifiable amount of spousal support which turned out to less than what Mr. Van Ness recommended I should pay in one year alone! 8) Exorbitant fee. No one expects an attorney to be inexpensive or to get 100% of a desired outcome. However, I do expect the attorney to at least pretend to be on my side and work for my benefit. This attorney did not. 9) He was fired over four months ago and continues to add fees for services. He filed a "Notice of Lien" on my property two weeks after I fired him.
Everything Mr. Van Ness was not, my new attorney was. She was professional, courteous, explained everything, informed me every week, sent copies of emails, letters, discovery and well versed in family law.
Don't waste your time or your money on Mr. Van Ness for family law issues. Find someone who specializes in the field with 100% of their representation in family law.

My experience with Mr. Van Ness is painful. He was happy to charge me a lot of money, but for wasted and undesired work. He was recommended and when we met seemed to be nice at first, but over time he just did not seem to be the brightest bulb and if for whatever reason he gets butthurt he lashes out - not very professional or conducive to helping resolve legal matters, especially in a high conflict situation. I definitely do not recommend.

Made an appointment weeks in advance with Mr. Lay to discuss my issue. Appointment was for 3pm - still have handwritten note saying 3p with other instructions I was given. Called prior to my appointment about emailing him info before our phone appointment, and the receptionist stated my appointment was at 11 am. Wrong! Not a good way to treat a potential client. Given the quality of the receptionist if you DO make an appointment, repeat it back to their receptionist several times so you know you are on the same page. Or you will be stuck like I am starting all over again for an appointment weeks out.

It was a most horrible service I have ever received. He had to send letter on my behalf to the lender it wasn't even send with certified mail. He couldn't verify if letter was received by other party. I paid him for service for the letter. I called to ask if letter was send or if there any response? He couldn't give me any information, but he did send me a bill charging me for my phone call. I wouldn't recommend to use this guy he is not trying to help you, but looking to charge you even for every minute you spend with him on the phone.
