I have spoken with 3-4 different attorneys regarding my landlord/tenant matters, and of those I talked to, I felt Maymei Szeto had much more patience to listen to my situation and evaluate the pros/cons of what can and cannot be done. Some lawyers were very cocky and wanted payment right away to get started on work when they did not even know the full story. Maymei took the time to discuss with me the whole situation, understand what my end goal is, and access the best path with least financial and time impact. It was a stressful situation for me, and in desperation, I was eager to take what seemed to me was the “easiest” route with little regard for the consequences of it later. Maymei was dedicated and worked tirelessly to negotiate terms that I felt achieved my goals and at the same time minimize my legal risks. I spoke to a few lawyers, but decided to hire Maymei Szeto because she seemed honest and aggressive. She also offered a good value, compared with other lawyers in the San Francisco area.
Thanks to Maymei's persistence, I got what I was entitled to in the end. I think she scared the other side into settling on my terms because she made it clear that she'd take it to the jury if that what it would take. She must be part pitbull!

I needed a new employment agreement and a thorough review of our employee compensation policies and employee handbook; done on VERY short notice. I was referred to Ms. Adams and was not disappointed! She was incredibly responsive and efficient. Although my business is located in California, we have several employees in Virginia. Much to my surprise she was familiar with both states, made quick work of my request, and educated me considerably in the process. I previously muddled through projects like this because I never had an attorney that made me feel like my needs were important or a priority. I was unknowingly exposed to Toxic Chemicals over a period of 12 years. My health was deteriorating . The pollutant was a huge Corporation ( Verizon ). We couldn't get a New York firm to help us. I had been turned down by other lawyers; told my Case was going to fail, “based on years of experience.” I kept looking and then I told Scott my story. He believed in my case and her believed in me. He worked on my issue for three years while the insurance company found every possible bogus excuse to create obstacles and delay the process. Words cannot express how truly grateful I am because of Mr. Scott Kalkin. Unfortunately I had multiple upper extremity surgeries in 2012 which left me disabled and unable to work. I had to utilize my long term disability policy from my employer that I paid for since 2000. I did not understand at the time that I purchased an Erisa plan which is a very complex and difficult to understand policy. My doctors were wonderful at documenting my condition and filling out mounds of paperwork that advised my long term carrier that I was clearly disabled and unable to work. Unfortunately this did not matter to my long term carrier. I was advised by my carrier in 2013 that I was no longer eligible for my much needed medical benefits due to the Erisa laws and I would be receiving a letter with an explanation on how to appeal in the mail soon. Needless to say, I felt defeated and exhausted. I did extensive research on long term disability attorneys and decided to call Mr. Scott Kalkin at Roboostoff and Kalkin. Not only was Mr. Scott Kalkin kind and understanding but he took the time to explain the complexities of having a long term policy governed by Erisa. Mr. Scott Kalkin is extremely knowledgeable and is an expert on all of the complexities of long term disability policies. I’m happy to say that after hiring Mr. Scott Kalkin in 2013, he contacted my long term and to this day, which is now 2019, I am still receiving the much needed benefits that I deserve. He removed the burden and frustrations of having to personally deal with my long term carrier. It is so refreshing to have a wonderful attorney like Mr. Scott Kalkin on my side and working with my long term disability carrier to ensure that I am being treated fairly and at the same time allow me the much needed time to heal from my injuries, which is a blessing. If you find yourself in an unfortunate situation where you need someone to advocate for you in regards to your long term disability policy, especially a complicated Erisa plan, I highly recommend Mr. Scott Kalkin. My collections case was difficult. The opposing party used all means at their disposal to make it impossible to collect. First by attempting to ignore me, then by moving money in accounts, and finally by making promises of settlement then violating their written promises.

I was very impressed with Mr. Tormey's professionalism and knowledge. I met with Mr. Tormey for a Free 30 min. consult about a possible patent idea. Come to find out, he is an Electrical Engineer, has his MBA and an attorney. My idea did not pan out but if I go through the steps he suggested, I will be going back to him with the background work I need to do. Mr. Tormey worked with me to write a contract for distribution of products in the US that were manufactured outside of the US. The complexity of this situation was not a issue for Mr. Tormey. He broke down the complex parts of the contract and explained each one to me. This allowed me to make an informed decision as to how I wanted each part to be written. In a complex world having an advocate is very important. Mr. Tormey was that advocate. I believe I got the most favorable contract for my situation.

We all know that the more experience a lawyer has, the better. It is important that the lawyer possess the utmost knowledge of the law district (s)he practices within, and knows the judges and prosecutors. You can even make sure to find a lawyer with membership in a specialized organization, like the American Trial Lawyers Association, which supplies members with resources and information. And, you could go so far as to compare the lawyer’s past results by requesting some proof of prior verdicts such as court records or newspaper reports. Frankly, I suggest you do.
But, if you have come here you obviously are looking for a subjective assessment and that is what I often use in appraisals of all kinds. I am an investor and value a good lawyer’s contributions and ideas. Nils is one of the very few attorneys I have employed that can speak with you like a compeer, yet - provide you with ideas, insight and legal information that for me has kept us out of court - yet on the leading edge of the law. He handles his cases personally, has an excellent staff and makes himself available even after hours (and that can be his one weakness, since he is a trial lawyer, he can be found in court and thus be a bit difficult to reach).
Nevertheless, he has usually found time for me during a given day and always by the evening or next day. His rates are fair and he often likes speaking on subject or off - without charging. I think Nills is an excellent lawyer.

I hired Matt to represent me in a case involving a school and a fellow student's false accusations against me. Without going into too much detail about the case itself, I can say that Matt was an unexpected blessing. Not only did he immediately want to listen to my side and hear me out, he also realized from our first meeting that this entire situation had devastated me. Teresa is the best of the best.
We were lucky enough to have Teresa represent us in two cases. Both cases dealt with insurance companies. Teresa was absolutely outstanding in both situations.
The first case was a complex case where the disability insurance company only knew the word "NO".
The case absolutely had merit. However I could not find an attorney with the experience and confidence to take this case. The long and short was that Teresa took the case and obtained miraculous results. Her knowledge of the law and her extensive experience was instrumental obtaining the resolution that should have been provided from the insurance company from the start.
Teresa did not back down from a difficult yet resolvable situation. She worked tirelessly to obtain a favorable and just judgement. Teresa's ability to understand the subtle elements of our case and the many players invloved was vital to obtaining a favorable resolution. We did not expect to get such fine results. Teresa is a freindly, personable lady, comfortable to deal with, and is extremely knowledgeable in her field. She kept us advised on all aspects of the case including her interaction with the court.
She worked tirelessly on this case combating (in this situation) a heartless insurance opponent.
Teresa always told us the truth in regards to potential outcomes. She gave us the knowledge to make the correct choices regarding how far to pursue this case.
The other situation was a resonably simple case, again dealing with an insurance company. It required all of the T's crossed and the I's dotted. However, simple is not simple as it seems, when you are the "insured".
Teresa made certain my case was "packaged" correctly so the insurance company would have to make good on the claim as it was submitted. I was very happy to let her do the "heavy lifting".
Again Teresa was responsive and gave me the personal attention she provided on the more complex situation. Without her assistance I doubt positive results would have been obtained.
Teresa has made a personal difference in our lives. Without her ability, expertise, and compassion our lives would be significantly different today.
