I got in my first major car accident last year in November and it was a major blow financially and emotionally for me because it wasn't my fault at all and I had no idea where to turn too for legal help. By the grace of God my fiancee's coworker suggested this law firm for my case because he had such a good experience with them and let me tell you he wasn't lying. Throughout the whole process so far they have been so helpful and nice making this traumatic experience for me so much easier to get through. While recovering from my injury they even sent little care packages! Me and my fiancee thought that was so nice of them, For them to go out of there way to do that for us. I have full confidence in them resolving my case and hopefully this review helps someone else reach out to get the help and compensation they deserve as well. God Bless this law firm for helping so many people at a time where, like me is so traumatic and hard, and when it seems like there is no where to turn for good help.

This law firm moderately did well for my divorce in 2019 and provided me upfront estimated cost but they failed to provide me accurate legal information. After 5 years, when I went through this law firm again for my spousal support modification due to loss of my job then it seems like they just wanted to take money for no reason and misrepresented me and on top of that threatened me to reduce my spousal support amount if I don't pay to them immediately. I am a single mom and handling all sorts of chores and on top of that my attorney (Chris who has lots of experience) instead of helping me, threatening me and that caused me in tremendous mental stress and I lost my case and lost 15k of lawyer fees. The opposing counsel didn't even respect him and didn't provide their information on time. They harassed me multiple times for sending the same questionnaire and same document request so many times to earn their hourly pay. Really I got traumatized after their really bad service.

I usually don't go on platforms to submit reviews but I felt that it was critical that I share my positive experience that I have had with Sara. I hired her several months ago for child custody, visitation and relocation matters. I consulted with four lawyers (at different firms) until I settled on Sara Schuler. I even retained one from a fancy big name firm for a while, but ultimately went back to her. Since my case ultimately went to trial, with a large firm on the other side, and because we won on every issue, I can't express I grateful I am that I had ultimately chose Sara.
When I first consulted with Sara, what struck me is how precise and accurate she is. This is not what I got with the other lawyers, who made egregious misstatements about the law in their conversations with me. For example, a lawyer at a different (and well-known) firm told me, “well, the court doesn’t care about your contributions to the marriage,” when I told her I would like the marital assets to split according to our contributions. In fact, the Virginia statute explicitly requires that the court consider the “contributions, monetary and nonmonetary, of each party to the well-being of the family.” Sara never made any such errors in speaking with me, or in speaking to the court.
This precision and accuracy are essential in the unfortunate case that you go to court. The trial was like an enormous fact checking exercise, involving thousands of pages of documents. Our credible presentation of the facts was central to our trial win. In contrast, mistakes, mis-statements, and being loose with the facts seemed to sink the other side.
Related to her precision and accuracy, I felt I could trust Sara. Lawyers seem to care very much about their reputation in the legal community, much more so than they care about the outcome of your particular case. The other lawyers I consulted with tried to badger me into settling for an inequitable division rather than risk their reputations in a court room. Not that Sara was at all eager to go to court---she was also very reluctant, but at least she didn’t lie to me to try to get me to do what’s best for her career. Lawyers at some other (big name) law firms did.
The whole pre-trial thing, and hopefully that’s the whole thing for you, that’s all very stressful too, and I was glad I had a lawyer I could trust for that part of it.

Sara understands federal government employees' unique situation, particularly those amongst us who initiate the separation/divorce process from overseas. She represented me in court, mediation, and in direct communication with the opposing party.

Nathan Olsen managed my custody case and he executed the case flawlessly. He would give you advice on what to expect and he is unusually blunt is managing expectations. He is VERY articulate and can would counter the opposing attorney when they try to be clever. His combination punches would floor any attorney that try to play dirty. Recommend this firm and Kathryn Cunningham who prepared my documents. I had moved from MD to VA a few years ago and procrastinated about having my Will, POA and Health directive changed to meet VA requirements. Ms Cunningham made the process very easy - everything done by email until the in person signing. There was really no reason to have procrastinated!

To say Leslie Hoffman is an exemplary attorney is a disservice to her legal acumen and skills. Leslie is nothing short of a brilliant strategist and has an unmatched legal mind. Good Chinese food. Rice is not given with the dish. You have to order separately. I went on team lunch and it was great experience. The ambience is quiet and clean. Faux monsters plant fill the vicinity of the restaurant so nicely. Food is properly cooked and spice level is exactly as indicated. I like spicy food so i took highest spice level.

I was very disappointed about the outcome of my child custody case. Ms. Alanna was not prepared, didn't know key facts of my case, and did a horrible job presenting to the judge. She was an amateur in the court room. She dismissed a key witness in my case without my approval, didn’t respond to my emails and was unorganized. I’m sure if you're going through a child custody case it’s a very tough time in your life. Mrs. Williams did not provide sound advice, dedication, or adequate representation. I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone.

The 1st family lawyer I got was horrible and cost me about $10k. I hired Mehagen back in 2013 and she was empathetic, honest and great in the courtroom when fighting for you and your case. Alice supported me on negotiating and updating a child support and visitation agreement. She was very nice, pleasant, and professional. She communicated well, calling and emailing as often as necessary. My biggest concerns revolve around her lack of due diligence and understanding of my needs. There were several occasions where it became clear she either didn't actually read, or didn't understand, some supporting documentation provided. This resulted in impacting the negotiation where opposing counsel called out her mistakes ultimately weakening our credibility and position. I also viewed some of her advice toward the end as questionable, focused more on protecting her reputation and less on protecting my interests. I have not returned, nor would I recommend this attorney.

Hire at your own risk. Hiring her was a complete waste of time. She was very unprofessional and unprepared for my case. She did not have the experience to handle my case, and I felt she was working for the other party and agreeing with anything they proposed. Furthermore, she did not 'advise' me on legal issues that could help my case and provided the standard cookie-cutter, run-of-mill lawyering. Everything I found out was through my research. Stay away!
