I had contacted dozens of lawyers to help me with my (contested adoption) case, they all had turned me down until I found Ryan Kuhn. From the very beginning you could tell Ryan and his assistant Jen are both very passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. One of the experts in our case said to me, "you either find a good lawyer who is a bad person, or a bad lawyer who is a good person, Ryan is the rare exception in that he is both." This is sooo true. He knew what was at stake and fought tooth and nail for my little family, working day and night for us. Words cannot explain how grateful I am to him and Jen for all they did for me. Without them I don't know where I would be, I truly believed finding them saved my life. He takes the cases that no one else will, and wins them. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone!!! Ryan and his assistant, Jen, were very understanding and compassionate but yet professional and reasonable as they helped me file for divorce from my husband of 30 plus years. One of the first things Ryan said to me was… “ I am more expensive than a counselor, so if you want to chat about things not directly pertaining to the case, I will steer you back on track….but I recommend it is healthy to go seek out a counselor to help you emotionally get through the divorce.” Right from the start he was very conscious of a budget and kept things moving that were important to the case. He reminded me that somethings could cost more in attorney fees than were worth proving. Where I wanted to achieve something based on the principle of it, he steered me back to the cost that would be sacrificed to get it.
The divorce was complicated by the fact that I had put my career on hold to be a stay-home-mom to several children, allowing my husband to advance his career with the federal government and have all the perks related to early retirement eligibility, federal employee health benefits (FEHB), a government pension and a generous government matching Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Although I had the same college degrees, education level, previous federal employment, and had recently picked up non-federal employment, I did not have the number of years to be eligible similar benefits. I counted on Ryan to weed through the confusing government rules and regulations pertaining to government “Spouse Equity,” “Survivor Spouse Annuity,” and “Federal Employees Health Benefits.” When my husband was adamant that he did not want to provide for the Survivor Spouse Annuity, Ryan was able to appeal to him and his attorney to have it provided because of the long marriage. Whatever Ryan did not know, he found out. He also has access to professional paralegals (at rates less than his) who are experts at dividing government retirement and TSP accounts based on individual cases. Ryan leveraged their information and guidance in preparing the court orders for the retirement division and the TSP division. Ryan is highly knowledgeable of the government retirement-type issues and an expert in the preparation of court orders specific to government retirement plans.
Although there were no longer any minor children, my case was further complicated by many other things, to include stock being held for an elderly parent with the intention that it would be returned to her if needed for her health care, multiple bank accounts, brokerage accounts, credit cards, student loans for a couple children, pages of personal belongings, hotel points, airline points, hidden cash, hidden trips, hidden debt, an adult child still in college-tuition, a house mortgage, a timeshare, multiple cars, some of which belonged to children, a dog, healthcare, dental and vision for adult children under the age 26, and the desire to be able to obtain federal healthcare when needed for myself.
One of the best ways to describe Ryan is that he has the mind of a chess player. He was always thinking one move ahead, and the topic of alimony comes to mind here (pros and cons)…. You’ll have to ask him.
Did the divorce cost more than expected? … Absolutely! But I am the reason for this. I can be wordy (this is probably the longest review on his page) and my emails long, but Ryan patiently answered every question, reminding me along the way to trust him, and that my wordiness and multiple questions would cost me more. I did not care because he was providing me with information which gave me peace of mind. He also obtained something that three other attorneys told me could not be done (ask him!). He is excellent, worth every penny.
Lastly, it is not in my nature to write reviews. I have made this one exception because Ryan and his assistant, Jen, deserve kudos for a job well done. A sincere Thank You Ryan for accomplishing the near impossible. May your practice thrive!

As both a client and attorney (one who does not specialize in family law), I highly recommend Brian Urban as collaborative divorce counsel. With Brian's expert guidance, I was able to drive my own collaborative process in terms of the timing of the process and pursuing my priorities in the divorce, negotiate agreements with my ex spouse that best suited our respective needs and the needs of our children, and preserve communication with my ex spouse about our children. There is an old saying which states, “The definition of a fair divorce settlement is that both parties walk away unhappy.” After 31 years of marriage, raising three children and running a successful company, I did not want this antiquated interpretation of divorce to define our family. The concept of “collaborative divorce” which encompassed negotiations, compromise and creative problem solving with legal representation was certainly the answer for our family. I was a previous client of Elisa Staats & even though it’s been 8 or 9 years, I just wanted to share some positivity and say that we still are so grateful for her hard work, determination, and persistence!!
We live in another state and she helped us get custody of my husbands son who was living in Ohio in a terrible living situation with his other parent. Situation: My son lives in Columbus, & his minor son lives in Akron. My son got notice his son was in a bad situation with his mother, & he had to fight the maternal grandmother for custody. To be honest, I came about Ms. Staats phone number desperately trying to find a lawyer for my son on just a few days’ notice. We weren't local, and Ms. Staats was the ONLY lawyer not only to answer the phone herself, but to take the time and talk over the situation with me, AND agreed to be in court in just 3 days’ notice! Wow! She really came to bat for my son. While the other lawyer resorted to "Jerry Springer" type tactics in the court room, Ms. Staats countered every low blow statement and ridiculous motions with a professional attitude coupled with a mother tiger's ferociousness in protecting my son & his rights, and his son's best interest. Even the mother to my grandson said "I don't know where you found that lawyer, but WOW! She wouldn't let mom's lawyer get away with anything. She's impressive!"
Elisa was responsive to emails and calls when her scheduled allowed, and always got back with us. It took 10 LONG months for my son to get custody, several hearings, pretrials and motions, but really, we got every pennies’ worth of professional representation from Ms. Staats and her advice to follow during that time. When it came down to trial, she brought with her TWO of the biggest organized binders of categorized evidence and information, questions for witnesses etc.. And was VERY prepared to go to trial. Our family, & our son was extremely impressed at the detail of her work. We thank heavens that Elisa Staats was that one lawyer who answered my desperate call for help that day. Now my son has his son living with him again & they both are so very very happy!! (And so are we!) We feel Ms. Staats was overly fair in her cost, & she was always upfront on any fees or potential future fees/costs that could happen. We also feel that she did NOT "nickle and dime us" on everything, we got more than our money's worth hiring her to represent our son and his son's best interest. Elisa Staats was our angel for my son's case. Our family cannot say enough awesome things on Elisa's behalf. We were blessed to find her.

Mr. Trelevan is a wonderful lawyer! I am very pleased with the way he handled my case he gets straight to the point and got things done! I would recommend him to anyone in need of a lawyer. I had been fighting my case for 9 months until I was able to get assigned Mr. Trelevan and he got my case ended in 3 months and it only took that long because of them making my court dates so far apart or he would have got it ended sooner. My divorce was just final almost a year ago. It was a difficult situation with our business involved. Denise ALWAYS looked out for me. I would get intimidated - just plain scared - and she would "talk me off the cliff"! This happened many times. She was always available - even at night and on weekends. I don't want to think about what my situation would be had I not hired Denise! She would often say to me: "I'm not your mother" but this is what I advise. There were many difficult decisions to be made and I learned that "leaning" on her was my best option. She truly cared about me and my health. She wanted me to be happy. Justin and I sat down originally once I decided to attempt shared parenting. He was very helpful with discussing the process that needed to be done and the proper steps in doing so. Him and I always kept an open communication during this process which made it easier to respond to certain steps during this. He was overall a Great Person to work with and Fought for what he felt was right for the children in the process. We received full custody.

My divorce turned into a nightmare. My ex fought us on absolutely everything, refused to provide court ordered documentation, just made it extremely difficult. Mr. Zeiger was honest about what was/wasn't worth a fight. From his experience he already knew what the outcome would be. He fought hard for what was right, didn't let the lack of cooperation from the other side detour him. He found ways to gather the necessary documentation without their assistance. In the end the settlements were fair and I didn't have any regrets about the decisions we made and how it was all handled.

My wife and I wanted to get joint custody of my children. We both were unsure how to go about this because you don't hear many postive outcomes with dad's going to court. We contacted Mr. Snyder and he immediatley put us at ease and answered every question we had.
Mr.Snyder really made us feel like he cared about our case and got to know us and our situation at hand. He told us exactly what we needed to do and how to go about doing it. Mr. Snyder was with us every step of the way and it felt great knowing he cared just as much as we did.

Prior to my initial meeting with Mr. Kaufman, I had discussed my situation with two other attorneys neither of which felt they could handle my case. Due to the difficulties of the case, they recommended I seek other counsel. In dealing with counsel on a different issue, Mr. Kaufman was highly recommended and I pursued making contact with him. I went to Anica in 2007 to file for an uncontested dissolution from my ex-husband whom lived 1300 miles away. She is an extremely caring, compassionate, and kind person. She really takes the time to get to know her clients, understand their situations, and she does her best to make the process as stress-free as possible. I found myself in a bind when I met Mark. My previous lawyer grossly neglected my case. My prior lawyer caused me to nearly miss a critical deadline two days away, and wouldn’t even agree to speak with me until after the deadline. I usually never write a review or give excellent ratings unless it well worth it. I am not the type of guy that logs on and reviews product or services. This, however, is my exception.
I was in the Marine Corps when Mr. Kirkland took my divorce case in 2012. I needed a lawyer to represent me in court because I could not attend any hearings, due to my military obligations. Mr. Kirkland not only took my case (and even though we didn't have a chance to meet face to face) he was able to fully complete my divorce decree in court.
Fast forward two years later. I had another crazy summons by the ex-wife (figures). Once again I need a lawyer and decided to go back to Mr. Kirkland for legal advice. Not only did he remember me after two years, but he once again took my case and fought for me.
Mr. Kirkland is an excellent lawyer at a reasonable price, and I think the most important part is that, he is military friendly. He always gets back to you and keeps you informed throughout the whole proceedings. To all my military friends out there, I highly recommend him.
