I had a very challenging case in so many ways from start to finish. It was never a dull moment!
Erica and her team of Caitlin and Dona absolutely saved me in so many ways. I was awarded 78% custody of my kids in the end, and a very fair financial settlement which is saying a lot in the State of WA. My case was a roller coaster that many would say only happens in nightmares, but the team was able to deliver a very prompt and professional approach to the case and also keep my mental state in check. I couldn’t be happier with how it all ended on a positive note, and cannot thank everyone at KSL that was apart of this journey with me. Erica and her team have been nothing short of phenomenal!!! I tried taking my child's mother to court 3 times after she kidnapped her and was unsuccessful because I had no idea how to properly navigate the court systems before I finally bit the bullet and looked into hiring an attorney. I called 3 different firms when I started my search for a good legal team. The first didn't answer nor call me back, the second firm was really dry and short with me during my initial phone call like they didn't seem to care about what I was saying just throwing price quotes in my face, so I hung up on them and then I contacted Knauf Santos law. From the initial intake phone call her office was so empathetic, so inviting, so kind and they seemed so eager to know more and try to help me! They stood out from all the other firms so I had a great feeling about them and after having my consultation 2 days after the intake phone call I knew they were the firm for me. Erica was so personable, so empathetic, so knowledgeable and so strategic! Erica brought it to my attention at the intake that I had enough evidence to not only have my ex held in contempt but also other things AND I could even get more residential time with my child than what I was initially given in my initial parenting plan (which I always dreamed of) but I had no idea!
The fight was long, this custody battle has been hard, 2 years ago I started out with a 4 hour visit a week (super unfair) and now 2 years later with the help of Erica, Dona and their fabulous team I now have full custody of my daughter and I'm so grateful because I couldn't have done any of this without them. Not because it wasn't possible but because I was so lost without them and they have so much knowledge and access to things I had no idea of! They've helped me in so many ways! Since hiring them we have been undefeated in court.
Things got tough dealing with my case, they continued to stand by me and help guide me during this process and were so punctual, I remember one day I emailed Dona (Paralegal) and was like wait you guys that thing was due 2 days ago what do we do now?!!!! Dona responded, we already had that taken care of don't worry. :) They have been so on top of things and handling all the all the footwork and making things clear for me and prompting me to do things correctly, they made this horrible experience as breezy and smooth sailing for as they possibly could, I tell ya! I paid a lot of money out of pocket to cover expenses but it was worth every. single. penny. I would do it all over again. I tell anyone I know or run into about these guys! Dona and Erica are angels, I feel like I owe them so much more than what I have to give for all they've done for me and my family during the hardest time in our life. Kirstyn and Catherine were great advocates when my Ex was infringing on my parental rights with visitation. So often, and particularly in WA State, fathers are at a disadvantage when trying to enforce parenting plans and court orders. Kirstyn was able to provide balanced advice telling me what is and is not possible based on our prior Court Orders, and we determined that my Ex was in fact in contempt. We then created a case and roadmap setting expectations of possible outcomes, and Catherine represented me in court. Even though the judge was blatently against us in court based on his opinion of our verbal argument (his own bias), the written contempt was ironclad and indisputable and as a result we won, creating better and healthier boundries with my Ex. I was even awarded some of the money from the judge based on the degree of contempt and Catherine's ability to outline the ramifications.

I received Ms. Palmisano’s number for and I promptly gave her a call and she picked up. Right away she went to work and got everything that we needed to start. 18 months after my divorce was settled, I was laid off. When I found work again, I took a significant pay cut, making it impossible to pay my original maintenance amount. Then my ex petitioned to relocate cross-country with our kids, while demanding I continue to pay well more than I could now afford. I consulted multiple lawyers, expressing my desire to oppose the relocation and request a decrease in support payment. Several said no immediately, one felt it would be an “easy win,” and one charged a fee just to meet with their “intake specialist.” In contrast, Scott was patient, empathetic, and balanced. He gave me a very candid and practical assessment of my situation, and his opinion on my chances to win.
After we mutually agreed to go forward, he was responsive, made himself available even when my schedule wasn’t convenient, and was very collaborative. When mediation failed, he demonstrated his intellect and deep knowledge of the law in court. My ex’s lawyer focused his efforts on attacking my character. We could have done the same, but Scott insisted we take the high-road instead. That, combined with the case law he cited, his handling of witnesses (mine and hers), and his sincere and respectful demeanor led the court to side in my favor on each motion, as well as their subsequent motions for reconsideration. I consider myself lucky to have found Scott. I hope I never have to go through this again, but if I do, it will be with him.

My ex-wife filed for divorce a year ago and her lawyer filed a restraining order against me immediately before a visit to see my son, despite the fact I did not reside in the state, and having no specific previous conflict that merited such an action. I had a free consultation with Scott who was very good at listening and sympathetic, and I decided to retain his services. He acted quickly to negotiate the withdrawal of the petition for a restraining order. Subsequently, a fair parenting plan was negotiated, which allowed me to see my son and contact him regularly while out of state, which was much better than the situation prior to my ex-wife filing for divorce, which depended on her whims. Child support was a concern, as my wife wanted an unreasonable amount of money, far beyond what I could afford. Scott was right in his interpretation of the facts and when he went to court the Commissioner favored his arguments, and the terms settled were fair. He was right on and did not waiver, which reflects his knowledge and many years of experience. Scott was always very aware of my concerns about costs, and he did initially give a very accurate prediction of final cost. In addition, he was always calm, polite, thoughtful, and empathetic with me, he built a rapport with my ex-wife's lawyer to negotiate, while being resolute in defending my interests. Getting divorced with Scott's representation was far less stressful than it might have been with another attorney.

I retained Scott Semrau as my attorney to help with me deal with a recent family law situation involving a false allegation of domestic violence restraining order against me which was later dismissed in court thanks to the excellent legal work of Scott Semrau. In addition to the dismissal of the false restraining order against me, Scott Semrau also helped me safeguard my legal rights to be a parent and not be alienated from my children by helping set up regular court ordered time with my children and a reasonable child support order.

These are two things you are looking for in a lawyer when you are going through emotionally and financially exhausting processes like divorce, dvpo, custody and other family law matters. Court systems are hard to navigate when you have enough to take care as a single parent and while you are adjusting to your new reality. Brian helps take this burden off of you. He is highly knowledgeable and knows how to navigate these issues and address them appropriately. He is mindful of your finances and does a great job representing you, which is all you can ask for and expect. He listens, unlike a lot of other lawyers out there, he takes your input and advises on what the law dictates and advises accordingly. He is not brash but rather the kindest lawyer I've worked with, and I have worked with for almost 4 years. I must add that his para legal Jeff Welling has also been present to answer when Brian is attending to other clients; they are both highly responsive. Brian helped through a very tough divorce with custody at stake. Throughout the difficult process Brian was always upfront and honest about what he thought in terms of key decisions and what I wanted. If he did not think it was a sound path, he would say so and explain why.
Brian was always professional in dealing with myself, the court, and opposing counsel. In dealing with opposing counsel he was balanced in advocating for me within the law with a difficult spouse that caused many problems.

Mr benjamin helped me tremendously.
My cases was different, my son was born and his mother married. I had to prove he was mine and get custody of him.
Mr benjamin was fast,smart, and fierce in the courtroom. My sons mom didnt know what hit her. He proved that she lied was on drugs and was unfit to have my son.

Kim was my attorney during my divorce. I was glad to have done my research because, in hiring Kim, I picked an atty with a strong background in difficult personalities, mental health issues and complicated proceedings. My case did end up with multiple difficult surprises that could have devastated me financially and socially, but Kim got me through it without a scratch. I am a decent writer myself and work with lawyers frequently in my work; but I could NEVER have produced the legal artifacts (letters) that Kim did. They were extremely effective and served to close a very difficult process relatively quickly with an emphasis on ethics. My case ended up being difficult enough that I don't think the average divorce lawyer would have done as well for me. I recommend Kim without reservation.

I worked with Terry during a seemingly impossible divorce and custody case. My ex was impossible to work with, missed required court dates, threatened her and her staff frequently, refused to be cooperative or even decent and ultimately made a tough situation near impossible. Terry worked on this case for 8 months, provided both legal advise and emotional support and ended up getting me full custody of daughter. She dealt with my ex- a malignant narcissist with professionalism and was able to see through his scary façade. She understands the law and fights for what is right. As a working father going up against a stay-at-home mom who wanted sole custody, a difficult attorney representing my ex, and a bad GAL report, things looked hopeless. Terry gave me options and hope when I was ready to give up, dealt with a very difficult opposing counsel, and argued a fantastic case. At closing arguments, it was clear how emotionally and professionally invested she was in my case. After trial, I was satisfied that, win or lose, we did our best. And we won!
I cannot recommend Terry highly enough, especially for professional working fathers who are fighting an uphill battle to keep involved in their kids' lives. She's the best!

I hired Adam Shapiro's firm to handle contempt and modification issues in my complex dissolution case. Adam quickly reviewed the voluminous records in my case and outlined an effective, cost-sparing post-dissolution strategy. I was blessed to find Ms. Davis and have her assistance in my Family Law case. After my ex-wife contracted a dirty and unscrupulous lawyer to “destroy my life”, as she said herself, I went through almost 2 years of fear and depression due to the threats and unimageable lies they made up about me in the process. There aren't enough words to say how amazing Ms. Davis as an attorney. My case was fraught with high level conflict regarding custody of my 1 1/2 year old daughter, we were in a very unsafe living situation at the time and Genevieve took no stops to be present in her legal advice to get us out safely, she took my frantic calls on the weekends and guided my daughter and I both out of the situation (legally speaking).
After our temporary parenting plan was put into place, she worked tirelessly to prepare us for our Permanent Parenting Plan. She guided me through multiple protection orders and gracefully handled harassing calls from my ex. At all times Ms. Davis remains with a level head and exceptionally thorough in navigating the intricacies of both combative relationships and the legal system itself. My daughter's father struggled with following the rules in our Temp PP and her council successfully lead us through CR2A agreements, contempt orders and even a criminal case.

During 2011-2013 John helped me with the process to change my Visa Status. The school I was enrolled in committed several mistakes leading the change of visa from a J1 to an F1 that eventually the Visa was denied and the case was cancelled in two different occasions. John finally took care of the process and later on had to intervened with the school to avoid having me paying the fees that the USCIS required in order to re-open my case. Maya is an excellent family lawyer and absolutely worth hiring. Here are the criteria that were important when I was looking for a lawyer to help with my divorce:
1) Overall personality: a lawyer must be trustworthy and also easy to work with (there is a lot of back and forth). I interviewed Maya along with several other lawyers and after working with her for a year (which was not what either of us had hoped to spend on the divorce), I can only say good things about the above.
2) Price: her hourly rate is in line with most family lawyers. While there are some work-discount programs and also private practice laywers that may have a lower hourly rate, being at a firm has the benefit that for smaller tasks, Maya had the support of a paralegal who bills at a much lower rate.
3) Efficiency: This is wrapped up in price because if someone bills at half the hourly rate, but takes twice as long to do something, the amount of money spent is the same, but...the task took twice as long. This is tough to gauge beforehand, but I will tell you that Maya works fast and her work product is excellent (intelligent and insightful comments on documents, deep knowledge of the system and the law).
4) Results: This, also, is tough to determine beforehand. Here is what I will say: Maya is excellent in court and when push comes to shove, she will throw down the gauntlet and advocate in a respectful, but firm way. She was able to send specific, motivating emails to opposing counsel that got results at critical points in time.
Overall, Maya is an excellent choice she is reasonable and would tell me when what I was asking was not. Honestly, I have no points of criticism. You can do your due diligence in seeking a family lawyer, but if you want to simplify the process, hire her and never look back.

I found Emily Tsai after seeing my wife’s lawyer out class my first 3 lawyers. He was able to take the documented truth and twist it into lies. The first 3 fell prey to sleazy tactics and threats of sanctions. Maybe they were afraid of a lawyer who had a Commissioner working in his law firm. Emily took him on and save me from losing potentially $2 million to the lies and tricks of the other side. She did this by not responding to lies and sleaze with lies and sleaze. She did it using the high road with good legal reasoning, good legal research, and outstanding expert witnesses.
Emily is hard working. To my objection she had me in her office late into the night to prepare for the arbitration hearing. Her husband was very patient and waited hours for her to complete the preparations.
