Breanne took my retainer and RAN. She would take weeks to respond to a call or email, and constantly missed deadlines. She promised me she would lead me through this divorce and did the absolute opposite. I had to let her go due to her negligence and she refused to give me a refund. This one star review is base off of my opinion, perception and experience with the firm. I will state that legal action has been threatened if I do not take down my review on other platforms like lawyers.com and yelp. I urge the people who read this review to check the reviews on those sites as they IN MY OPINION better reflect the experiences of the firm. After cross checking the staff on the website and the reviews underneath mine, it is mostly staff from the office leaving the reviews, not clients.
I was hesitant to post about my opinion and experience with the firm because the replies in negative reviews are in my opinion passive aggressive and airing out clients “dirty laundry”. However, I will not be referring any of the clients from my business or anyone who asks me for my opinion on the firm. I will be sure to make my communication with others factual and not “slanderous” and state this is my OPINION of the firm.

The absolute worst attorney in Texas. I thought he was working for me, but it ended up. He was working for my ex. He didn’t stand up and fight for anything that I asked for. He and the mediator was best friends. Maybe they were having an affair. Most of the time that the mediator was in my room I could barely get a word in due to the lawyer I paid well over 5k and the mediator reminiscing on old times.
I wanted to get 30 days for the summer, which is a standard for fathers to have in most cases their kids in the summertime with this sorry excuse for an attorney I only get 10 days. After the lunch break I catch the mediator and both lawyers talking to each other like they’re best buddies. Mediation ran over due to the mediator being in the other room for 85% of the day and he wants to try and charge me extra and I told him this is not my fault. You’re the attorney you are supposed to make sure that the mediator is supposed to be on my side for a certain amount of time and I did not receive an equal amount of time to fight my own case because this sorry attorney didn’t fight on my behalf. He was complaining to me about getting home to his wife because his wife thinks he’s cheating on her when he comes home late.
I told this guy my children were in danger and they should be with me and not their mother. He didn’t care. He lies about everything. His staff lies about everything as well to cover up for him. On several occasions just to talk to his staff I would have to stake out the office. After he got paid I could never catch him at the office anymore, either he wasn’t there or his staff would tell me he would call once his out of a meeting or court but I never received a call from him. This guy is the biggest fraud and my next report will be to the Texas Board.
If you’re thinking about using this guy as a divorce attorney take my advice and find another attorney. He works with a lot of railroaders, take it from me he’s going to cost you a lot more in the long run. Find someone else.

I would NOT recommend. The “ball was dropped” too many times to count in my case. I had to hire another attorney to correct a mistake in my decree that could have cost me the only asset in the case. I paid 4 times what my ex paid and I am still undoing the damage this law firm caused.

Stay clear of this law firm!! They are liars, crooks, & thieves. I was charged well over $10,000 for Cathy to do absolutely nothing on my family law case. It was like she was representing the other party instead of me as her client. Not to mention she never showed up to court on time and she lied and told me she was at court when she really wasn’t (as I heard a phone call where she called her paralegal to see if she told me Cathy wasn’t at court yet because she had already told me she was there.) also she started that phone conversation with her paralegal in this manner “What’s up b***hes” very unprofessional! Also orders were served to the wrong address which was their rightful mistake after I gave her paralegal all the proper information she needed to ensure she could serve orders to the right person/address and it was still served to the wrong person and you guessed it, I was still charged for all this. Not to mention they are still charging for phone calls when I literally talked to her paralegal and was told Cathy would review my billing statement since this law office has done absolutely nothing for my case. Oh and get this my case was DISMISSED and how did I find out? I had to hire another attorney after I felt this law office was dropping the ball left & right and wasn’t doing what was in the best interest for me and the new hired attorney found all this out, got me my dismissal court paperwork all within 24 HOURS!! Please stay away from this crook of a lawyer and law office and incompetent staff. I pray this law office gets their karma for taking advantage of innocent folks and ripping them off with their greed of “attorney” if you all want an exceptional attorney whom will not just take your money just because they can and want someone whom will really fight for your case e-mail me, I can give you all the best attorney ever. Also once I hired this new attorney to pick up the ball where Borum law firm dropped it and it was discovered my whole case was dismissed this new attorney even REFUNDED all my money!
Take my word STAY AWAY FROM BORUM law firm!! I hope this saves someone from spending thousands of dollars like I did for absolutely nothing!! Also I will be reporting to the BBB and contact the licensing board regarding this law firm.

HIRE THIS ATTORNEY IF YOU NEED TO WIN!
I never got married with divorce in mind but it happens...and to me it happened in a very big way! My spouse immediately went for the throat after I caught the cheating, asking for money and custody claiming everything in a divorce war chest including physical abuse, mental abuse, drug abuse and other criminal activities. Needless to say I was terrified when the waterfall of legal threats began to drown me and my business. I even spent a night in jail due to false accusations.
Get ready for tough love and facts during the first meeting! This lawyer is more that qualified, is tough as nails and will give it to you strait in order to prepare you for battle. She was very prepared for my case, empathetic, always available, returned calls and I never had to question a bill.
She will skillfully negotiate with the opposition and make you feel protected when you are standing in front of the judge.
Ultimately I got more than what I needed because we were prepared. My life was put back on course and I have a great relationship with my child.
Catherine Borum is the BEST attorney you can have in a that horrible situation. Don't wait until they fire the first shot.

Well where to begin? I was referred by a friend to Dwayne Smith about two years ago for my first and lord willing, only divorce, no kids. I was crushed and unsure of what my possible actions and ramifications were at the time. We had a business together so it was definitely a nightmare trying to untangle everything.
From Day 1 every time we spoke via text, call or face to face he always reassured me that the outcome would be the same and I would be ok. It became somewhat of an inside joke waiting for those reassurances before speaking again but he was 100000% correct. When I would have my ups and downs he was always calm, cool and collected and it paid off. We always had our ducks in a row and presented settlement offers it seemed every time there was a new full moon but her side kept dragging it out for more billable hours.
Dwayne was very mindful of not spending toe to toe because we didn’t need to. I appreciate him being considerate of my finances because he could have justified more spending and I would have gone along so thank you for having integrity Dwayne.
I don’t know many lawyers thankfully, but I’m glad he represented me. Thinking back over this process I’m not sure he could have done a better job or gotten a better result if we had to do it over again. To say I’m satisfied is an understatement, yes it was expensive but as the saying goes it’s because they are worth it.

I would absolutely give Dwayne and his team Zero stars if that was an option. Dwayne completely failed me and only cared about money. Burned thru $15k in 2 1/2 weeks. He forced me into mediation and expected me to take a crumb all without having stbx Discovery. I was expected to make a decision without all the puzzle pieces. He also did not get me temporary orders which was a huge concern.

Terrible experience with Sarah particularly. My coparent withheld my ability to see my infant on multiple occasions, Sarah charged me for documentation that didn’t improve or remedy the situation; the coparent was not held accountable whatsoever. The response I received from filing the expensive paperwork Sarah’s firm advised was my coparent filing a false police report saying their vehicle was broken into implicating me for which I had proofs were 100% false (the vehicle was NOT broken into or tampered with and I was nowhere remotely close to area it was located at the time in question). I was required to meet at police stations following that accusation - know what the coparent showed up in?? The undamaged vehicle in question on the DAY FOLLOWING the accusation. (For the record, it’s supposed to be a crime in Texas to file a false police report). Again, none of it mattered when we *never made it to court* — saddled with $25k worth of representation debt (when the standard for family court settlements is ~$11k to my understanding), a hefty child support amount, and ONE day more than a standard possession as a non-custodial parent. I wrote her an angry, frustrated “who do you work for here?” email to which she felt the need to call me personally at 3 am having me tell her I thought she was the perfect person to help me with my situation or she would be resigning my case. Should’ve dropped her then and there. I’m an honorably discharged veteran, a former federal employee, an Eagle Scout, etc. I was up against someone with a an assault record. Continuously told her firm I wanted a 50/50 coparenting agreement and wasn’t trying to skirt child support because I didn’t think it would help my case. Not what was presented at the 2-3 court days we were supposed to have, I took off work for and made special arrangements for but didn’t actually “take.” We never made it to court - ended up in mediation with a RETIRED judge who didn’t read or pay any attention to the facts of the case whatsoever as his blanketed opening statement at mediation was - “I don’t care what the facts are here, I’m not taking any child away from his mother short of something drug related” - a determination based solely based on gender/sex. I did 90% of the talking during mediation; Sarah and her assistant sat there and barely spoke. I’m not an attorney. I didn’t get paid $25k to represent someone. Had no idea what I was doing. Sarah worked with the coparent’s attorney and came up with a 30+ page document that provides more coverage for my co-parent than me and I was billed for it; co-parent walked away from the case on a pro-bono basis. If I mess up, jail time and fines. If the co-parent messes up, there would be hefty court fees for me to enforce anything and then next to 0 repercussions for them. My coparent has been so empowered by how easy it was to walk over me that she has continued to violate the agreement (never missed a day with my son, coparent’s missed a plethora; coparent doesn’t send written updates when our circumstances change, I’ve had to; coparent moved outside the agreed upon living area, repercussions are supposed to be me becoming custodial, NOPE; coparent filed 2 more false police reports since implicating but not naming me to avoid harassment charges, nothing stopping them). If you’re a single father out there for any reason and are looking for help, know upfront no one (courts, attorneys, etc) cares about the dad’s rights or involvement in a child’s life. Since the resolution, I’ve struggled to make ends meet between the debts and my obligations. Think when I’m struggling to this degree that I can afford or would even bother going back to court to have my coparent “held accountable” for the violations?? Steer clear of Sarah’s firm; felt massively overcharged for the minimal support or intervention I received from them.

I had a very disappointing experience working with Lyndsay Newell as my attorney. Here are several specific issues I encountered:
Billing Issues: I was billed for time that I believe was inappropriate. At one point, another lawyer came into the meeting and started discussing personal topics with Lyndsay about her husband. Despite this conversation being irrelevant to my case, I was initially billed for an hour of this other lawyer’s time. When I questioned it, she removed the charge, but the situation felt unprofessional and unnecessary.
Frustrated Response to Questions: Whenever I asked questions to clarify details, Lyndsay often became visibly frustrated. For instance, she responded to one of my questions with, “Rebekah, we’ve worked so hard on this,” as if I shouldn’t be asking for further clarification. Even when it was something we had previously discussed, it wasn't always clearly explained to me, and as a client, I expected patience and understanding.
Lack of Advocacy During Mediation: During my mediation on February 8th, I felt that Lyndsay did not advocate for me strongly enough. There were specific items I had explicitly rejected, yet when the opposing side requested them, she still included them in the agreement without objection. It felt as though my firm “no” was disregarded.
Failure to Provide Clear Guidance: Throughout the mediation, when the opposing party made requests, I was not informed that I didn’t have to agree to everything. This led me to agree to terms that were ultimately unfavorable to me. I later reviewed the final MSA with a lawyer friend who confirmed that the agreement was heavily biased against my interests, contrary to Lyndsay’s repeated insistence that it was a “great deal” for me.
Lack of Follow-Up After Mediation: After mediation, when the other party did not pay the agreed child support, I reached out to Lyndsay by email to ask for guidance. She did not reply to me at all, leaving me to handle the issue on my own without any support from her.
Unexplained Delay in Finalizing the Case: My MSA was signed on February 8th, yet the case was not finalized in court until July 31st—a delay of nearly five months. During this time, I had no court order to enforce child support payments from my ex, which left me without the support I was supposed to receive. I’m still uncertain what caused this delay or why it took so long.
As a first-generation immigrant and a non-native English speaker, I was unfamiliar with the legal process and didn’t fully know what to expect. I placed my trust in Lyndsay to represent my best interests and guide me through each step, but I was left feeling unsupported and misrepresented.
Now, due to the unfair terms of the agreement, I am facing serious challenges and am suffering from the consequences of an imbalanced arrangement with my ex. I am now forced to look for another lawyer to reassess the agreement, which has created even more stress and expenses for me. This experience has been incredibly disheartening, and I regret every single second that I chose to work with her. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the same experience I did.

I hope folks read this before anyone makes the grave mistake of hiring this firm before shopping around, like my in-laws did. I’m not an attorney in Texas, but I am an attorney in another state, and I can say that what has been described to me about this firm is egregious.
First, they seem to have a paralegal who doesn’t understand that she’s not a lawyer (despite the fact that she’s apparently never been to law school and is not a member of the Bar) and she may be engaging in the unauthorized practice of law.
Next, this firm doesn’t appear to do the bare minimum right out of the gate in civil dependency cases or family law cases, such as ensuring visitation with children.
Last, but most certainly not least, it appears they take cases they’re not even remotely competent to handle, such as felony criminal defense cases. If true, this would be a violation of the ethical obligation lawyers have to provide competent representation. This firm, by all appearances, cares only about collecting your money and not about actually advocating for their clients.
If you need an excellent criminal defense lawyer, talk to Cofer & Luster.
Even if these Tumo Law people do have some experience, it doesn’t look like they’re any good. If you need a family law attorney, you may want to shop around if you care to have high-quality representation.

I wish I had a rave review to leave. I hired Tyler at a very challenging time in my life. After talking, hiring and telling him what I was wanting to accomplish in my custody battle and what I already had custody wise going in was nothing compared to what I got coming out. I got less than I initially had to begin with all because I trusted someone that was more knowledgeably than I on the issue. Please know exactly what your signing for in depth before you sign because I didn't and now I'm stuck for a year with my current orders and cant do a thing to get it modified now that I know exactly what they mean. Ms. Barr did the impossible, she won my husband full custody of his children in the State of Texas!!! Ms. Barr is the second attorney we have hired, (first attorney was with a completely different law firm) and I am so thankful she was recommended to us! I was lied to, paid lots of money to her, signed papers to be filed into court which was NEVER DONE she led me on for approx 3 years and in the end nothing, never stepped into court the last year and a half but continued to charge me. I was arrested and booked into a county that is known for piss poor court appointed, or outrageously expensive attorneys. Where if you're broke you're gonna not only sit in jail for months on end but def get the short end of the stick. This man was a court appointed and he took care of business. I watched men go into court and back to jail over and over waiting on a lawyer to get it together. I was in and out of jail that day with much desired sentence. I hired her back in 2020 and switched counsel after our first hearing. She didn't prepare me at all, I had to directly request the judge for drug tests because she didn't after telling me she would. She argued with everything I said at every phone call. She ate through 90% of my retainer for absolutely nothing. I'm so thankful I switched attorneys and got someone that CARED about children enough to try to keep them safe. We won!

Hired Shannon to represent me in a contested case and do not recommend her. She does not follow through and says she will do something many times and then not do it. I wish I could charge people what she does with that little effort. She did not communicate nor prepare me for court, tell me where to go and showed up late. She is not reliable and you will go to court-have to advocate to get in front of the judge and for her to actually file to reset cases. If something is too hard she won't fight for it. Do not hire her!

Went with Shannon after a recommendation and was very disappointed. She talks a real big game, but that's all it is, talk. She never knew the facts about my case, constantly told me incorrect information, and was only interested in billing hours. Especially for small business owners, stay far away, she does not understand even the basics. After almost 6 months of billing me with no work done, I had to work directly with opposing counsel and my ex to nail down child support. Turns out Shannon was the delay and I was paying her for it. The communication with her and her paralegal was absolutely horrible, would not receive updates for weeks/months. In the short time since I let her go as my attorney I've already regained custody time and been paid back attorney fees, all on my own. She made my divorce worse and more complicated, the exact opposite of what a good attorney should do.

Personally, I would not recommend Sylvia. She was very helpful initially, as I was recommended her by a close friend. I paid her retainer to her in cash, then I was informed that she moved to a new firm shortly after hiring her, then was asked for another retainer with her new firm. Not sure if this is normal, but the way I was communicated with about the situation by the new firm wasn't very professional and quite rude.
