Jeff was able to process and finalize my case within a couple of months, and he made himself available to answer my questions via text and calls. I went through a couple lawyers until I found Jeff and the others seemed more interested in having as many clients as possible and billing me for anything and everything. Jeff maintains a small list of active cases in order to provide quality service.

Dale is absolutely amazing. Having gone through 4 lawyers, Dale has blown everyone else out of the water. He took my case 1 week before my mediation, after I had to let my other lawyer go. He works fast and efficiently. He is honest and works hard to get a resolution to your case. He doesn't waste your time or money fighting for things that dont make sense or billing you for useless information. I will honestly never use anyone else in the future. It's hard finding honest lawyers who will fight for you. His extensive knowledge on case law closed my case real quick.

This attorney got more than $3000 from my pocket in last than 2 weeks. Although, he did not do anything. He just kept asking for money and money. I found another attorney and he was able to work on my divorce for less than that. Be careful with this man.

Brent was my attorney through a difficult divorce. My ex-husband was an unwilling participant in the marriage AND the divorce. Not wanting to participate in the divorce made him difficult to negotiate with. Brent was able to see through his stalling tactics and eventually, we were able to force the divorce issue. Brent was effective in communicating with the narcissist who was my husband. It still took a while, but I was able to get out of the relationship with my dignity intact and with everything I wanted and needed. I am satisfied and grateful for Brent's experience and highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an attorney who finds themselves working with a difficult partner.

I have him help me with my pro se order to show cause, He volunteered through the court system to help those who represented themselves. He was trying to get the other party to listen to my suggestions for settlement, giving me advice, and being on my side when you really need someone to be there for you, even if you are presenting yourself.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working directly with Mr. Erickson for over 10-years. He is a person of integrity and impeccable knowledge of the law. His ability to distinguish and distill complex technical regulations provided a pathway for my business’s success. He is able to identify and break down salient facts with associated legal aspects to provide sound legal counsel that exceeded all my expectations. Legal matters can be challenging and he was able to provide clear insights and adept skill that created the best possible outcomes. I highly recommend his service for his professionalism, integrity, knowledge, personality, and skills. Because he knows how to navigate the complexity of the law, it allowed a positive compliant resolution for me. He went above and beyond in every aspect. I will continue to work with him and highly encourage any needing legal assistance to do the same.

If I could do a zero star: I would. I am writing this review because I feel a moral obligation to warn people about trusting this law firm. From the outset, it is deeply concerning that the attorney failed to prioritize my case by neglecting to thoroughly review the information provided by the guardian ad litem. This negligence reflects a lack of professionalism and diligence on their part. By disregarding crucial documentation that could have supported my case, they effectively hindered my ability to present a strong argument in court. Furthermore, the attorney's consistent denial of my requests to submit important documents is nothing short of unacceptable. As a client, I have the right to expect prompt and efficient service, especially when it comes to gathering evidence. The attorney's failure to prioritize my needs and instead divert their attention to unnecessary communication with the opposing party's attorney is a clear indication of their lack of commitment and disregard for my case. Equally troubling is the attorney's attempt to pass me off to other attorneys under the guise of providing them with "experience." This is a direct betrayal of my trust and confidence in their abilities. When I hired this attorney, I did so with the expectation that they would personally handle my case and provide the necessary expertise. Instead, they attempted to pawn me off onto less experienced attorneys, essentially treating my situation as a learning opportunity at my expense. The sense of bias that I felt from the beginning of my case is deeply distressing. It is the duty of any attorney to approach each case with objectivity and a commitment to ensuring their client's rights are protected. However, it appears that my attorney failed to uphold this fundamental principle. As a result, i was forced to constantly prove my worth as a fit mother, adding unnecessary stress and burden to an already difficult situation. I would have never hired anyone from this law firm after my initial experience with Britt Beckstrom. However, after moving on and hiring Brian Eggleston, he moved to this law firm and my experience with Brian was even worse than my experience with Mr Beckstom.

If you’re looking for a lawyer look elsewhere. Mike Branum is definitely not the guy to go to. He is two faced. He will act like he cares to your face then go behind your back and talk bad about you to opposing counsel. He is unprofessional and a liar. We hired a new attorney and he acted so surprised about many things that were brought up to his attention. Ended up finding out a lot of the thing he said and were told to him that were never once mentioned to us. I would recommend everyone to save their money and look elsewhere. *** Is that right because you NEVER told us what was going on you. We saw emails of you talking bad about YOUR OWN clients to opposing counsel. We have the evidence, is that professional? I think not, who talks bad about the people PAYING YOU. All you wanted to do was for us to give, give, give. What exactly were you doing to “help”. Go figure 😊

My fiancé hired Mary Bevan to help her with a custody matter. After the first hearing we had concerns with Mary's approach and confidence in the court room, after the 2nd hearing we realized she was as good as having no legal counsel. She has no control whatsoever in the court room and she allowed the apposing lawyer to walk all over her. It got to the point where it seemed like Mary didn't believe my fiancé and constantly kept telling her to be honest in order for her to be able to help. My fiancé never lied and was honest from the start. We ended up firing her and hiring a new lawyer. It took the new lawyer 1 hearing to get the case resolved, Mary had 7 months and didn't do anything.

I found Pearson Butler via MetLife legal plan. Connected with Russ to get our family trust in place. Straight forward to complete, no complaints there. Reached back out to Russ about a completely separate matter unrelated to estate planning. His response was "I do not practice law in this area and thus, have not idea." I guess I just had more expectation than a lazy response with typos. Too much to ask if there's someone he can put me in contact with? I will be moving on from Pearson Butler and find another firm to do estate planning in the future.

...Greg Wall’s office shouts, “Get the hell out!” Unprofessional: Stood me up in court. Refused calls. Lost paperwork repeatedly, until I started emailing instead. Unapologetic: Wasted the entire time until, on the last day, I switched to Scott Brown and Brian Coutts who won $200,000 in a short period of time for about the same cost. Greg Wall made NO effort until it came time to collect his $30,000+ for doing nothing. I would love to meet these other people who gave him 5 stars. I suspect they’re members of his church ward.

Greg represented me on my divorce modification. He did a wonderful job representing me. He was very clear in where I stood and rather than making any promises he just got the job done. His experience shows in the way he handled my case. My x-wife's attorney was very difficult to deal with and rather than thumping his chest and making matters worse he handled her in a very cool and calm matter. Greg did everything he could to avoid going to trial and he succeded not only in that outcome, but getting everything resolved fairly. I was very pleased with the way everything was settled. Kudos also to his assistant Victoria. She was extremely helpful. I highly recommend using Wall and Wall.

Kyle Witherspoon has a brilliant legal mind. But what makes him such an excellent attorney is his ability to vigorously represent his clients with a compassion and humanity that many other lawyers lack. In every instance where I have brought a legal matter to Kyle, he’s done exactly that while achieving great results. As a fellow attorney, I have no hesitation recommending Kyle to anyone looking for legal representation.

I was introduced to Kyle Witherspoon through a family member. I live out of the state but the issue was involving someone in Utah. Of course this added another layer of work and representation, but he and Katelyn Kendall were always very responsive, worked with me to answer my questions and keep me informed of the process. They were always very professional and I would definitely use them again. You will be in good hands if you use Kyle and Katelyn.

This one star review is for PGAL, Sam Sorensen. Overcharged for rediculous items, and added no value. Minimal effort to collect a check, and poor judgement. In the end, God knows. Thank heavens for Anna Trupp, our custody evaluator. She came through for us in the end. Think about a custody evaluator over a PGAL, is my recommendation. Especially if you have parents on the other side involved in various versions of substance abuse. It’s not just clients that feel this way, it’s attorneys in the industry that see his lack of effort, as well.

Russell took my case and then took a very circuitous approach to resolving what (turned out to be in someone else's hands) a slam dunk resolution, only to announce that he was quitting the law. He then charged me his full rate to spend many hours transferring the case to my new counsel, who looked over Russell's work unable to understand much of his strategy. The ethics of taking my case knowing he was preparing to quit law (he's apparently since returned) and then changing me plenty for his decision, are deeply troubling to me. I cannot recommend Russell Gray.

I was hit with a false child abuse allegation at the commencement of my divorce and thought my life was over. Things were a total disaster. DCFS had substantiated the false abuse, a TRO prevented me from having any contact with my kids and they were being badly alienated with the help of a biased therapist. Eric fought hard for me and we accomplished the impossible. I now enjoy regular visitation and all that drama is behind me. Eric is an excellent attorney for someone who is up against the ropes. I highly recommend him.

Since we had to pay over$7000 up front. She was consistently more concerned about my daughters estranged husband. She wasoverly concerned that he had a good car to drive. Where did that come from. At one point we had to stop her from drafting a letter of apology to my estranged son in law and his attorney because she followed the advice from a judge who told her to go get her kids. Kaitlyn consistently put fear into my daughter that she would lose custody of her kids rather than offer her support during this very difficult time in her life. She showed no interest in actual fighting for and supporting my daughter.

My father was a client of Mr. Lawrence in what should have been a simple divorce case. We knew going in that Mr. Lawrence is a one man shop (no associates) but were disappointed when almost every motion, response, or filing had obvious typos. Often my father's name was spelled incorrectly, on more than one occasion he flip-flopped whether the defendant or respondent was entitled to certain property, and there were often math errors in his calculations. It seemed that he would have had us or his receptionist review things before sending them out, but that generally was not the case. Mr. Lawrence was more concerned with responding quickly to motions/filings than getting things correctly. We would not use him again, or recommend using him.

Unfortunately I din't have a stellar experience in working with Michael Lawrence, I didn't feel that he devoted the proper level of attention to my case. 1. He was texting and preparing for another case while we were in front of the commissioner. 2. He asked me if I had the documentation while we were at court. He wasn't prepared. 3. He quoted information back to me as if I had said it. "you said this, you said that." which I had not. 4. I had an active retainer (paid up and money in the pot), but since I had become unemployed and didn't own property he dropped me as a client. Well, I think I'm grateful that I didn't continue. You may have a different experience. I just recommend that you ask him to pay attention to your case and focus on your needs if you do hire him and not allow multi-tasking.

I was asked to resubmit my review of this attorney, though I don't feel there was anything wrong with the first review I provided. I hired C. Michael in a divorce, I had a prenuptial agreement and my wife decided to contest the divorce and filed a counter claim. This attorney is a good paper shuffler and not good a providing reliable honest advice. He would not allow me to say anything at the trial before the judge and based my case essentially on one question, "If he were a millionaire would you have signed the prenuptial agreement? She said she didn't understand the question. He dropped it dead in the water and didn't follow up at all. The judges decision was disastrous to me He didn't ever provide me with a copy of my exs financial declaration (which she omitted future financial assets from) He didn't inform me that my retainer was ever credited towards my account and when I asked his office for financial leger copies of my account I was told they had went to a different record keeping system and those records were thrown out. He discouraged me from filing an appeal if I got a bad decision in the divorce, claiming it would be very expensive and it would have to be in bound book form I was also a client of the same attorney on a False stalking charge my ex filed against me, he advised me to plead guilty in abeyance and after a year that would be the end of it. Though I disagreed with his advise, which was for me to lie and plead guilty to a charge I did not commit. I followed his advise. Later when I contacted his office, he didn't even have copies of the receipt that I paid the court costs and I had to send him a copy. I ended up paying the costs of doing it myself to get the record expunged.

Paige was overbearing and did not keep the family unity in her overall plan. She was divisive and manipulative. Worst investment ever. The only reason for the 1 star is because it wouldn't accept it otherwise.

I had a really bad experience with these guys while fighting for my daughter. First off they are very expensive. I just went to mediation and settled there and it cost me $17,000. I brought up a lot of problems with billing from my first bill and they wouldn't take anything seriously and even wrote up a new one with more stuff on it to compensate for the charge. It wasn't until my case was almost finished that they finally met with me and took off some of the charges which amounted to about $1100 which wasn't enough. I'm taking them to the bar of utah because that's what it has come down to with them being so sketchy with their charges. They always round up on times that I know didn't take as long as they say they did. The last straw for me was when the paralegal called me near the end of my case and all she said was I'm calling to ask if you have questions about that email jared sent. I said no then she said oh and an update on your case we're still waiting for the judge to sign the documents. I already knew all of that info but yet they still charged me for it. They wanted more money so they called me with that so they could charge me which isn't right. The previous bill also had some sketchy charges and I complained about it and they took random charges off even though I didn't specifically tell them what was wrong. They just took a few hundred dollars off to make me happy and sent me a new invoice. They even missed a few of my invoices then sent me some later saying I owe them all this money when I never got a detailed invoice until after they sent me that. It's just been a crazy time trying to get them to be on the same page and be professional so because of my personal experience I don't recommend then as a law firm. They charge for every email and phone call and charge you for a lot of things when it's their fault and their mistakes. They filed with the wrong court and charged me for it. It wasn't until I complained multiple times that they took some of those charges off of my bill. Just very unprofessional. If you ask me when it comes to my family I want things to be correct on my invoices and I want an honest and professional law firm to handle it. Jolley and Jolley definitely didn't help my situation at all and did not live up to my standards for my family

What a Child Support Lawyer Can Do for You

A child support lawyer specializes in legal issues related to the financial support that one parent provides to another for the upbringing of their children. These lawyers assist with establishing, enforcing, and modifying child support orders, ensuring that the financial needs of the child are met, including housing, food, healthcare, education, and other essentials. A child support lawyer can also represent parents in disputes over the amount of support, ensure fair calculations based on income, and handle legal proceedings if one parent fails to meet their obligations.

Whether you're seeking to establish child support, modify an existing order, or enforce payments, a child support lawyer can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights and the well-being of your child.

When Should I Hire a Child Support Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child support lawyer when you need assistance with any of the following child support matters:

  • Establishing child support: If you are going through a divorce or separation and need to establish a child support order, a lawyer can help ensure that the support amount is fair and accurately calculated.
  • Modifying child support orders: If there has been a significant change in circumstances, such as a job loss, income change, or a child's financial needs, a lawyer can help you request a modification to the existing child support order.
  • Enforcing child support payments: If the other parent has failed to make court-ordered child support payments, a lawyer can help enforce the order through legal means such as wage garnishment, property liens, or even legal action.
  • Disputing child support calculations: If you believe the child support amount has been incorrectly calculated based on your income or expenses, a lawyer can help you challenge the calculation and seek a fair adjustment.
  • Paternity disputes: If paternity needs to be established before child support can be ordered, a lawyer can assist with DNA testing and legal proceedings.
  • Interstate child support cases: If the parents live in different states, navigating child support laws can be complex. A lawyer can help ensure the proper jurisdiction is established and that child support is enforced across state lines.
  • Child support during custody disputes: If child custody and child support are being determined simultaneously, a lawyer can help ensure that both issues are resolved fairly and in the best interest of the child.

Hiring a lawyer early can help ensure that your child support case is handled effectively and that your child's financial needs are met.

What Does a Child Support Lawyer Do?

A child support lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents secure, modify, and enforce child support arrangements. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing for child support: A lawyer can help you initiate the legal process to obtain a child support order, ensuring that all necessary documentation is submitted and deadlines are met.
  • Calculating child support: A lawyer can help ensure that child support is calculated fairly based on both parents' incomes, the needs of the child, and other factors such as healthcare and education costs.
  • Negotiating child support agreements: If both parents are willing to negotiate, a lawyer can help facilitate an agreement on child support outside of court, which can then be approved by a judge.
  • Representing you in court: If negotiations fail or the other parent contests the child support amount, a lawyer will represent you in family court, presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Modifying support orders: A lawyer can help you file a request for modification if circumstances change, such as a loss of income or an increase in the child’s financial needs.
  • Enforcing child support: If the other parent is not making court-ordered payments, a lawyer can take legal steps to enforce the order through wage garnishment, property liens, or other measures.
  • Handling complex cases: In cases involving high incomes, self-employment, or complicated financial situations, a lawyer can help ensure that all relevant factors are considered in determining child support.

How Are Child Support Lawyers Paid?

Child support lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work required. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child support lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. The total cost will depend on how much time the lawyer spends on your case, including preparation, negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Flat fee: For more straightforward cases, such as uncontested child support agreements or basic modifications, some lawyers may offer a flat fee that covers all services related to the case.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require a retainer, which is an upfront payment that is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount of the retainer depends on the expected complexity of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or provide pro bono (free) services in cases where clients cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially when children’s needs are at stake.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are covered.

How Much Does a Child Support Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child support lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, whether it's contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested child support cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and the lawyer’s fees.
  • Contested child support cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, especially if the case involves significant court time.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour for child support cases, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases that involve complex financial issues.
  • Modification or enforcement: Fees for modifying or enforcing a child support order may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity and the need for court intervention.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation so you can plan your budget accordingly.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Support Lawyer

Before hiring a child support lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child support cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s establishing, modifying, or enforcing child support orders.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and any potential challenges you may face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Child support cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors may cause delays.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. What documents should I prepare?
Ask the lawyer what financial documents and other information you should bring to help them calculate child support and build your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Support Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child support lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and have successfully handled child support cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on child support matters.
  • Check for certifications: Some lawyers may have certifications in family law or membership in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), which can indicate their expertise in child support and family law issues.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a child support lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Income documents: Bring pay stubs, tax returns, W-2s, or any other documentation of your income and the other parent’s income, as this will be used to calculate child support.
  • Existing child support orders: If there are any existing child support or custody orders, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Child-related expenses: Provide documentation of your child’s medical bills, education expenses, daycare costs, and any other expenses that should be factored into the child support calculation.
  • Communication with the other parent: Bring any communication between you and the other parent regarding child support, whether through emails, text messages, or written agreements.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions about your case, the legal process, and the lawyer’s fees.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
