I usually don't go on platforms to submit reviews but I felt that it was critical that I share my positive experience that I have had with Sara. I hired her several months ago for child custody, visitation and relocation matters. First and foremost, her legal advice and experience lended her the ability to surpass all other lawyers I consulted prior to hiring her. Her professionalism was beyond many and she had an unwavering representation of my interests even though my case presented major difficulties as it was a hard case both on the legal and moral standpoint. I appreciated her judgement and ability to organize the important overall objectives, always ensuring we stayed on course. She was always honest and open - she never tried to give me a false sense of hope or down played some hard realties. But she was still understanding and listened. She never exuded overconfidence and respected me as her client. She stayed calm and collected when I felt I could not. And that made it possible for me to handle all that was thrown at me during a tough time. She's guided me through this treacherous process while keeping our actions and approach in tune with my own principles and goals. She was always timely and proficient. I hope that she continues to help other families as she had done for me and my family.

I consulted with four lawyers (at different firms) until I settled on Sara Schuler. I even retained one from a fancy big name firm for a while, but ultimately went back to her. Since my case ultimately went to trial, with a large firm on the other side, and because we won on every issue, I can't express I grateful I am that I had ultimately chose Sara.
When I first consulted with Sara, what struck me is how precise and accurate she is. This is not what I got with the other lawyers, who made egregious misstatements about the law in their conversations with me. For example, a lawyer at a different (and well-known) firm told me, “well, the court doesn’t care about your contributions to the marriage,” when I told her I would like the marital assets to split according to our contributions. In fact, the Virginia statute explicitly requires that the court consider the “contributions, monetary and nonmonetary, of each party to the well-being of the family.” Sara never made any such errors in speaking with me, or in speaking to the court.
This precision and accuracy are essential in the unfortunate case that you go to court. The trial was like an enormous fact checking exercise, involving thousands of pages of documents. Our credible presentation of the facts was central to our trial win. In contrast, mistakes, mis-statements, and being loose with the facts seemed to sink the other side.
Related to her precision and accuracy, I felt I could trust Sara. Lawyers seem to care very much about their reputation in the legal community, much more so than they care about the outcome of your particular case. The other lawyers I consulted with tried to badger me into settling for an inequitable division rather than risk their reputations in a court room. Not that Sara was at all eager to go to court---she was also very reluctant, but at least she didn’t lie to me to try to get me to do what’s best for her career. Lawyers at some other (big name) law firms did.
The whole pre-trial thing, and hopefully that’s the whole thing for you, that’s all very stressful too, and I was glad I had a lawyer I could trust for that part of it.

Sara understands federal government employees' unique situation, particularly those amongst us who initiate the separation/divorce process from overseas. She represented me in court, mediation, and in direct communication with the opposing party.
Sara runs her own practice and takes the time to know her clients and cases, she is always prepared for situations as they arise. She provides a personalized service to her clients and she always has had time for me when I had unexpected legal needs, including once while she was on vacation. I’d recommend Sara to anyone considering or determined to divorce.

I gave them 1 star because I called to get my remaining balance to pay off. Their accounting person was awful and rude. She did not know what the fees are being charged for nor the remaining balance that I would had to speak to the lawyer handling the case to get the final balance. That was fine but why be nasty and rude if clients are asking. They really need to train their front office or accounting staff better customer service or how to properly talk to clients better. My husband called a second time and asked to speak to a specific paralegal or lawyer involved in the case to get the final balance and they mistakenly transferred him to this accounting person they had again. She was soo rude and spoke to us both slowly like you are talking to a 1st grader like we did not speak any English. I do not know if it’s because of our last name but we both were born in the states so there was no need to belittle people that are trying to pay off their remaining balance. Makes me think she speaks to all foreigners this way and everybody should be spoken with respect regardless what race, former or current client. We will not be using them ever again for any services knowing they have rude and nasty accounting or front office staff that are not properly trained. I will also be telling others I know about this awful experience.

Regina brings the ideal combination of professionalism, expertise, precision, and persistence tempered with genuine understanding and empathy. In particular, she is VERY knowledgeable with the intricacies surrounding military divorce proceedings, a true expert! There are not enough word to describe Mrs. Amick. When I met Regina, she was my second consult. The first attorney didn't feel right. I spent an hour with Regina and it was that hour that changed my entire mind set about my divorce. Without going into the details of my divorce, I needed an attorney who would fight for me no matter what. I needed someone to hear my side of what happened, to be fair as to what was due to me based on the time of my marriage and not an attorney who was going to hurry the process along to move on to someone new. Regina made me feel like I was her only client. I never had any problem with her reaching out to me or communicating back. Respectful of her time with other clients and court dates, not to mention the amount of time she gives to the community and service to her peers, I had more respect for her work life balance the more I worked along with her. She is patient, persistent, thorough, extremely knowledgeable in the law and will fight for you like you are her own family. Going through a divorce is not easy. The emotional and psychological toll is at the for front and can affect ones decision making. Kyle Farmer knew how to both be empathetic and understanding but be professional in all aspects through my divorce journey. He was able to break down the lawyer lingo to where I could understand all the logistics. He gave his most professional opinions but allowed me to still be the driver in making decisions. Kyle is very responsive through emails, calls, meetings and his knowledge allowed things to be so easily streamlined. Kyle has an amazing team who also worked together with me to gather all I needed to alleviate the stresses behind a life changing event in both my world and my kids world. Kyle represented both me and my children. He works so close into getting the right people involved for the best outcome. To give my children a voice I also retained a GAL who worked for the best interest of my children, Kyle and his team wanted to make sure my kids were heard. I hired Kyle to handle a divorce with a difficult and resistant ex and complex QRDO paperwork. Nathan Olsen managed my custody case and he executed the case flawlessly. He would give you advice on what to expect and he is unusually blunt is managing expectations. He is VERY articulate and can would counter the opposing attorney when they try to be clever. His combination punches would floor any attorney that try to play dirty. I was referred to this attorney and he came highly recommended, looking at the Google reviews and the extensive "knowledge" that was noted, I thought it was a no Brainer to higher him! Although, I could have retained another lawyer at a cheaper rate. I wish I would went with a court appointed lawyer and saved $2500.00 because he did absolutely nothing to help me. I payed in full way before my court date and never received a call or consultation (which was odd in my experience). I had to call multiple times just to follow up and see if i could do anything prior to my case to help, no advice was given. My discovery was requested a day before my court case and our first meeting was in the court room for about 5 minutes basically telling me to take a plea deal. I had a DUI and refusal. I was convicted of a DUI and the refusal null processed which basically means nothing was done, I would have achieved the same results representing myself or just pleading guilty to start with. There was no Alcohol test done so you would think it was a win, he didn't even try to get it reduced to wet wreckless or anything. His entire attitude and disposition showed me he really didn't care about the outcome of my case or about me at all. He showed up late each time and was very sinister while speaking with him. I absolutely wish I would have went with another attorney. I have a perfect driving record and no previous criminal record. I subsequently have to have Interlock for 12 months that cost $90. Per month, $400.00 for asap, $220.00 for restricted license and $500.00 in court cost. This is insane and can cause economic hardship for anyone on a budget. You have to have a FR44 on your Insurance which also increases your premium. I made a bad decision the night of my DUI charge and the day I retained this lawyer. I've been bleeding money every since. I get that the law is the law and consequences are standard for certain offenses but I can't help feeling like I had an attorney who didn't care about me. I recommend him to someone else prior to my case outcome. Another mistake. 2023 showed me alot, I'm thankful that I can afford to pay the cost and I have the tenacity to comply with all my obligations. The commonwealth or this attorney will never see me again. If you're going to refuse, refuse everything the field test and breathalyzer, you might spend 6 hours in jail but it will help your case in the future. I made a mistake that will stay on my record for ever, and possibly prevent future career opportunities. You only get one chance, this is your future. I would advise to always speak up for yourself, and if not satisfied excersise your right to request different counsel, the court will grant you a continuance, you may pay a little more because they will still deduct fees for whatever so called work they did, but it could possibly save your record and future. Most importantly obey the law people!! Lesson learned!

Joshua Goff is a walking VA Code encyclopedia that can articulate a very strong defense for his clients. He is the type of attorney you NEED in any criminal matter. When I first spoke with him on the phone, he was very professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, and confident in his ability to defend the case… in court he transformed into a ferocious beast, showing no compassion to the opposition, and swung one of the biggest bats I ever seen in court. I am more than happy with the result and I could tell that Mr. Goff was proud of himself. That was clear indication that he challenges himself to be the best and he cares about his work. The best part about Mr. Goff is that you can tell he is passionate about what he does and being in the courtroom is his element. No matter how bad you think your case is… TRUST HIM! Doesn’t matter what your case is or what you look like… do yourself a favor and at least call him. He is affordable and is ready.

Mary worked with me over several years through a very complex high-conflict custody case with unique legal challenges including difficult opposing counsel and multiple jurisdictional problems. Her ability to research and present statutory and case law strengthened our case until eventually the opposing party had little to argue in court that she could not competently counter with established precedent. I would highly recommend her for high-conflict custody cases or unique cases presenting legal issues not normally seen in juvenile and domestic relations court.

After scouring Google for a fair/reputable law firm that I trusted to handle my uncontested divorce I came across Virginia Family Law Center.
I knew after visiting their immaculately detailed website that my search was over. The site allowed me to see early on just how welcoming, transparent, and dedicated the staff at this law firm is.
From the very first interaction in addition to speaking with Ms. Carroll during my initial free consultation I knew that I could rest assured and trust VA Family Law with my individual situation.
As a 1st time divorcée to say that my nerves and emotions were naturally heightened would be an understatement. Yet throughout it all VA Family Law held my hand every step of the way. They never complicated the matter further by adding any uncertainty or confusion to the mix.
The entire process was seamless from beginning to end. All of my questions and concerns were acknowledged, validated, and dealt with accordingly. All of my emails and/or phone calls were swiftly returned & answered I was never left hanging.
I was assisted closely by Ms. Medina, Ms. Carroll, and Ms. Herrera. I have to say these professionals are quite the dynamic trio. They are the epitome of tact, empathy, and servitude. They went above and beyond to resolve this delicate matter for me and I am eternally grateful.
However, I would like to commend the entire staff at VA Family Law Center. Since I know that each individual brings something to the table as far as the law firms overall credibility and efficiency goes.
Honestly, I was brought back to life with each instructive email and every heartfelt update. The guestimated time frame for my divorce to be finalized was 2 to 3 weeks and everything was wrapped up exactly at the 2 week mark.
I don't want to jinx it but I know in my heart if I ever have to get a divorce again I will be reaching out to y'all immediately!
Ps. I will be referring all of my loved ones that need legal assistance, divorce wise and beyond to you all without hesitation.

I am posting this review on behalf of someone who had a frustrating and disorganized experience and wants to remain anonymous:
I hired Theseus for a family law case, and I would not hire him again. While he ultimately completed the job, I strongly believe we wouldn’t have reached this outcome without my own efforts in negotiating with my co-parent, ensuring the agreement’s success, and keeping everything on track.
Theseus was extremely disorganized and lacked attention to detail. I repeatedly had to follow up for next steps and ask for clarification due to vague and unclear emails. More frustratingly, I had to redraft entire documents—ones he was charging me for—because they were riddled with errors, poorly formatted, and lacked basic accuracy. If I hadn’t taken the lead in proofreading and revising, we would have submitted documents full of discrepancies.
Throughout the process, I felt more like his assistant than his client. He also seemed to approach my case as though he was balancing interests between both parties rather than advocating for mine, despite representing me. His condescending tone only made the experience more frustrating.
Given my experience, I cannot recommend his services and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere for competent representation.

Kurt Brickman was a very arrogant and condescending attorney who did not disclose that he had been recently charged with providing illegal substances to a child. There was no way possible that he could properly represent me, while trying to gain leniency in his own criminal case. This showed up in his representation. I was imprisoned for 30-days without a trial, without even having charges brought against me and he did not fight, argue or appeal the judgement. In fact, I did not hear from him the entire 30-days I was in jail and didn't hear from him upon my release.
I hired him for a custody matter and it went terrible, he offered no apologies, no refunds and his firm harassed me for months for further payment. His representation is deplorable and I would recommend him to my worst enemy. Kurt lacks integrity, had I known of his charges, I never would've hired him. I question the integrity of any firm that hires him. From experience, look elsewhere for proper and respectful representation.

I do not understand how two different people, from the same law firm, with the same access to information, come up with such a drastic difference of opinion, other than personal bias.
In 2019 Ms. Carper recommended that I have sole legal custody and that mom be on supervised visitation, and in 2022 when my daughter finally got that stability, my daughter thrived. When Ms. Dillon took over as GAL for the appeal that was going on, she pushed for my daughter to go back to her mother, and if I understood her recommendations correctly, that Mom have sole legal custody.
And I done believe that recommendation was based on what was best for my child, but was made because Ms. Dillon doesn't want to admit that she has made bad calls that have favored the mother over what was best for my daughter.
I feel like it doesn't matter what I say though, as It is going to be ignored, and blown off as a father who is just mad because the GAL didn't side with him, but I am at the point where I am beyond frustrated and angry at the way Ms. Dillon.
But I am not mad because the GAL didn't side with me, I'm mad because Ms. Dillon has continuously pushed me in to agreeing to orders, and then held it against me that I followed those orders. She continuously ignored anything that didn't fit with her narrative of events, including the observations of Doctor's and counselors. and she even made her own observations about how the mother was negatively impacting my relationship with my daughter, and then recommended the mother have custody so that she could facilitate resolving those issues. I feel like Ms. Dillon has used her "authority" to retaliate against me for all the times i have pointed out that her plan of putting my child back with her mother isn't working, that she was being deceived by the mother, and that she was making assessments about my parenting style and mental health that she was in no way qualified to make.
I have felt like Ms. Dillon has had a bias in favor of my child's mother since she came onto the case. And when I walked out of court in January and found out that one of the mother's witness went to the same church and Ms. Dillon, granted they hadn't seen each other in a while, I it only furthered my concerns about her bias towards in father of my child's mother.
I don't believe that Ms. Dillon has the best interest of my daughter in mind when she makes recommendations on custody or visitation.
I love my daughter, and I have fought for 13 years to be a part of her life and keep her safe from her mother's neglect and abuse. And for 5 years I thought I had done that, then a year ago Ms. Dillon made recommendations for my daughter to go back to her mother, and was celebrating with her mother in her accomplishment, since then exactly what I said would happen has happened and everything has gone downhill. My daughter's mental health has plummeted since Ms. Dillon made the recommendations for a change in custody so that my child’s mother could pull my child out of a residential treatment facility AGAINST the advice of her long term counselors.
I am an Army veteran, with a long history of service to my community and nation, with no history of drug or alcohol abuse, or any other factor that would warrant her recommendations to keep my child away from me for almost a year. I have an MBA, PMP, a stable career with a TS clearance, and a supporting family where my daughter thrived. And my name has been drug through the mud because I have wanted to see my daughter succeed in life, and wouldn’t blindly agree for my daughter to go back to her mother, for no other reason than that’s what she wanted to do because her mother would let her do almost anything she wanted.
What has happened to my daughter is a tragedy, and is the reason why no one actually trust the "system" that is supposedly in place to help them. I would not trust anyone from this law firm as a GAL.

You truly get what you pay for, especially in legal representation. And if your kids mean enough to you you won't think twice about retaining Craig Sampson. A father in a custody battle in VA can be a bad position to be in and bring low expectations regarding the outcome. Craig is the best in the business hands down. Extremely well prepared and has a court presence second to none. He will shine for you if given the opportunity. His pre-trial performance stopped the opposition in their tracks so overwhelmingly, they withdrew the case prior to the actual trial. Where they were not prepared, he was and made that day the trial. The judge acknowledged every point and legal precedent he presented. I can't say enough to truly explain his skill sets and professionalism, but you can witness it yourself. Although this is business, I will be eternally grateful for what he did for me and my daughters ensuring we stayed as one, family.

Our attorney, Elizabeth Smyers, and her assistant were horrible at communicating, demanding us to meet their deadlines while completely allowing the other party to not provide court required information that was needed. Then, withdrew from our case to leave us in a bad position for upcoming court. Please do yourselves a favor and stay away from them

Clayton Worthington and his staff went well beyond what i expected from a family law practice. He was honest with me about expectations. He laid out options and was realistic about expectations for each path. He was respectful of my moral compass while clearly explaining the outcomes I could expect. Most importantly, he genuinely cared about the my mental health and the impact a divorce would have on my children. He made a difficult situation manageable. In the end, I truly feel like I got a fair shake from the legal system.
I can't recommend these guys enough. You need them if you're going through a divorce. It's worth every penney.

Keep an eye on your documents with this firm. They will show you documents with acceptable numbers then after you electronically sign or approve, they will change the numbers on you. (AKA "Bait and switch") Their ability to math is bad. I am so angry and frustrated with this firm I'm having a hard time typing this as my hands are shaking.

When Raimo was appointed to my child support case I spent the entire time leading up to my court date trying to reach her with no success. I tried everything. She DOES NOT respond or return emails, phone calls, millions of voicemails etc.

When I finally heard from her it was via a text message sent at midnight- which I find completely unprofessional.
With my court date 4 days away, I was feeling desperate and helpless, so I responded immediately, but AGAIN got no response until 2 days before court.

When I finally spoke to her, I explained my case but she offered no sound advice or options for fighting the case. She seemed uninterested and claimed she was busy with “school.” This interaction left me feeling just as hopeless as before.
Now at this point I should’ve known better and looked elsewhere for help, but she had dragged me and ignored me right up until the weekend before court so I had no time.
Now here I am, waiting to see the judge, and she is nowhere to be found; Ignoring all my calls and texts.
Long story short-
SHE DID NOT EVEN SHOW UP TO COURT!!
TWO DAYS LATER - she sends me a nonchalant text message saying-
“Sorry I missed you. What happened in court?”
She did not even have the decency to give me a call.
Disgustingly unprofessional. I NEVER write reviews but this one was necessary!! This lady should have her license revoked! As a lawyer, clients put their trust in you and you are responsible for their well-being, freedom, representation in the legal system. I’m sorry but this lady is TRASH!
