I had a wonderful experience with Dan and his team. I can confidently say this firm genuinely cares about their clients. Dan and Shelbiy made me feel incredibly comfortable through the entire process - which was about a year for me. They were both empathetic, relational, patient, and considerate with me. When they needed to be tenacious on my behalf, they were. I couldn't recommend this firm enough.

I owe Dan Gerash and Shelbi Danner a debt of gratitude. They represented me in a jury trial in Jefferson County where I was wrongfully accused by an Arvada Police Officer that resulted in a Not Guilty verdict on all charges. Their thorough professionalism and attention to detail was incredible. They advised me throughout the entire process and were always honest and up front with me about my case. They were always prompt in responding to questions or giving me information about my case. I can't say enough at how well they presented my case when I finally got my day in court. There is no one else I would go to for legal representation in Colorado. Thank you Dan and Shelbi!

Hired Sarah. Witness call police and stated false accusations. There was a level of being innocent relative to the charges filed. Sarah worked through the situation and provided me the best results possible. For me its not about her wins, losses, or charges dropped. For me it was her guidance and providing me a path to work the situation. This is what I would like to acknowledge her for. She also told me in the most professional and polite way to shut up and let her do her job LOL. She proved her working relationships with the courts and DA to be another item she should be praised for. Especially where discovery video is concerned. What normally takes the average person 2 to 4 years to complete, I was done in a year, she also had a major charge dropped for me. I waited to provide a review until now, everything occurred in 2021 and as stated earlier I had everything wrapped up in a year because of Sarah...except one thing, which was beyond her and anyone's control. That is now done, and for complete closure concerning the situation I thought it would be good to do this review now. I greatly appreciated her as my attorney. I would recommend her to anyone immediately. My wife and I thank her for her time.

Sarah is beyond anything I can fully articulate in my limited vocabulary. She is a force that cannot be contained when it comes to fighting for civil liberties of American citizens. I am infinitely appreciative of everything she has done for me and what she continues to do for others. She is the absolute BEST! Thank you so much.

I had the pleasure of working with Ed Lomena on my personal injury case following a car accident, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the outcome. From the very beginning, Ed demonstrated exceptional professionalism and dedication. He ensured I received the medical attention I needed to fully recover, which was a huge relief during such a stressful time. Ed’s expertise and tenacity were evident throughout the entire process. He fought tirelessly to secure a substantial cash settlement for all the pain and suffering I endured. His commitment to my case and his ability to navigate the complexities of personal injury law were truly impressive. I highly recommend Ed Lomena to anyone in need of a personal injury attorney. His compassionate approach and outstanding results speak volumes about his capabilities. Thank you, Ed, for your incredible work and for helping me through such a difficult period.

I am an attorney who has used Whitney Traylor as a mediator, and he is a miracle worker. Both cases looked extremely unlikely to settle, even well into the mediation, because of very difficult parties. Whitney never gave up and worked very hard to help the parties reach a reasonable settlement. My clients felt heard and understood. Whitney did an excellent job pointing out strengths and weaknesses in a fair and appropriate way, and helping us come together to reach a resolution. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Mike was beyond amazing to work with. He is an incredible attorney and we got a favorable outcome on my case. From our first phone call he listened to me and was very sympathetic for my situation. I had spoke with several lawyers prior and they were not as kind or compassionate as he is. This was my first time needing a lawyer. Mike helped make the entire process smooth and not intimidating. He is very good at his job and does it with ease. He is also very reasonably priced. I fully recommend Mike if you are in need of an attorney. I hope to not need a criminal defense attorney in the future but if I do, Mike will be the one I call and who I refer people to.

Meggin Rutherford and her paralegal, Sarah Duff, are compassionate professionals who supported me through one of the most difficult times of my life. They successfully represented me in my divorce from an abusive narcissist who thought he was a lawyer despite being kicked out of law school and losing all of his frivolous lawsuits against perceived enemies. Needless to say, he was a nightmare to work with, but Meggin and Sarah did not put up with any of his nonsense. Eventually, he realized he was up against experienced professionals who would not be bullied by him, so he hired an attorney, which made the process easier for us. I came out of the divorce with what I wanted and ready to move forward with my life thanks to the excellent work of Meggin and her team!

I typically don't write reviews but felt compelled to do so given the positive experience I had with Garske Mediation despite it being the most difficult time in my life going through a divorce. Leslie is a kind and compassionate sole that truly cares about each and every one of her clients. The education and support she provided during this difficult time was paramount in helping us navigate through the murky waters of a divorce and a financial separation while saving us time and money through the process. Thank you for everything you did for us Leslie. Bless you.

Kim went above and beyond for me. I was fired unjustly, and we received a settlement. Kim was compassionate and wanted to help me due to her ethical and empathetic nature. Kim took my case, knowing that she may not be commpensated at all. She let me know she wanted to at least stand up to them. If we hadn't reached a settlement outside of court, then she wasn't going to charge me anything. I really am grateful for Kim being there for me. As I was turned away by another lawyer who said I didn't have a case. I had just about given up. Thank you, Kim.

I’m rating based on my full years experience with Amelia. While things went great at first- Amelia was very cordial, professional, and empathetic, she saw where I was being mishandled by law enforcement and treated with contempt by them by way of discrimination. She understood that I was being challenged by not only my case, but the bias and prejudice of the courts. She was able to adapt to all of this and got me a great outcome a year ago. Now I am at the end of the end of this litigious tunnel, and I’ve sought her counsel again to see it through, having filled all of the requirements on my end to do so in the timeframe allotted. I’m not an attorney nor do I portend to know all the ins and outs of the legal system. I don’t know if I need an attorney to represent me to close out my case, but with the system already having a historic prejudice against people like me, I felt it better safe than sorry to be prepared. This is where it’s all gone sour. I’ve always presented money up front because I don’t expect free counsel. I’ve always just asked how much money Amelia would want to review the same case she represented me on this time last year. If not to represent me, I’d be just as happy to pay to receive her input on what I should expect and what I need to bring to close out my case. That could be as little as 15m-1hr. My case is due for review in August. This month. I’ve been trying to reach her through her office for months intermittently/ passively, at most 1 email per month, until this past week where I wanted to give it one concerted effort to establish contact. I called the office twice, left two emails, and received the offices answering service once. We had a 15m consultation scheduled which she no-call no-showed for. Her office assistant thought that was weird and said he left her a message, which also went unanswered. The emails- one to Amelia and one to her assistant, both went unanswered. The answering service said that they’d pass the message along that I was trying to reach her, which also went unanswered. That was a waste of days of my time I could’ve used trying to find an attorney that was willing to see things through to the end. If Amelia had something against me personally and didn’t want to take the case- the professional thing to do would be to say as much so I’m not spinning wheels on something that isn’t going to budge. Even hearing as much from the paraprofessionals or office staff would have sufficed. My time is valuable, too. Ghosting isn’t a professional behavior. What a sad outcome to end this experience with.

Simply put, Mr. Bedard collected all the information he needed to present a solid case for me. We faced a tough DA who wanted to throw the book at me. Mr. Bedard was able to sway the DA in the end by getting them to look at the bigger picture resulting in a better outcome. I would ask Mr, Bedard for support again if I ever need it. I have had a clean driving record for over 20 years. Details: 12pt ticket for speeding DA offer: 11pt ticket Resolution: 6pt speeding and 2pt faulty vehicle

His out of the box thinking to our sensitive case was brilliant and easy! As a bonus, we learned something along the way. I would also like to mention that as someone who was watching budget closely, Cameron was absolutely fair! I couldn’t thank him enough for his help and would recommend him to anyone who asks!

I have worked with Eric Steele and this law firm for almost a year and they have been nothing short of phenomenal in helping my 83 year old mother win her case. The patience and excellent communication skills from Eric helped us through the challenges around her injury. They possess the skills and experience needed for our personal injury case. We will forever be grateful that they took us on when no one else would, thank you for everything!

I got in a car wreck in summer of 2024, the individual who was responsible for totaling my car and causing injury was denying liability with their insurance. I decided to look for a lawyer and Ryan and Sarah at Fang Law Firm did not disappoint. In fact, they went above and beyond helping me solve this case. They recommended and sent me to PT for my injuries cause by the crash, kept me updated with everything during the court dates as well as handling talking with both my insurance the the other individual’s insurance company. Ryan and Sarah went the other extra mile in tracking down witnesses from the accident who were able to help and ultimately get the case resolved through their testimonies. I couldn’t have asked for better representation during such a stressful time. Ryan and Sarah answered all my questions, and were professional and empathetic throughout the entire process. I am so thankful for everything they’ve done! 10/10 recommend.

I interviewed 4 other attorneys before choosing Laura and I’m so glad I chose her. She was honestly invested in my case and genuinely cared about the injustice I suffered. She fought to get me justice and was not afraid to go against a large corporation. Discrimination cases can be tricky but she is the perfect person to help you navigate them. I would 100% hire her again.

Jennifer Watkins worked to get me the best possible outcome for a DUI charge. After a rough night, I felt ashamed and embarrassed. Ms. Watkins was one of the first lawyers I spoke with and right away she made me feel relieved. During our first call she could tell I was extremely stressed, her calm demeanor put me at ease. She told me, she was willing to help whether I hired her or not. I had not experienced that type compassion from any of the other lawyers I had met with. I knew I was facing a challenging situation; however she helped me understand all the possible outcomes. She was very responsive to all my questions whether by phone or email. She helped me navigate through the entire process from the DMV hearing to the court case. She is well versed in the Boulder County courts; she knows several of the Judges and their tendencies. She has experience with the District Attorney’s as well. I am very thankful and grateful I worked with her on my case. I highly recommend her legal services. Bryan

Tami Mitchell is a life saver!!! I can say that because she saved my life. I was falsely accused of numerous accounts of sexual assault in the military. I went to a courts-martial and was found guilty of several counts. Tami came recommended to handle my appeal. Once I spoke to her, I knew she was the lawyer for me. She read through the 1500+ page record of trial and presented a strong case for overturning my convictions. 18 months later, Tami’s excellent work paid off and my sexual assault convictions were overturned for factual insufficiency, which is the equivalent of an acquittal. I was able to get off the sex offender registration list. My initial wrongful convictions caused additional legal issues for me, but Tami remained by my side each step of the way, assisting my appointed military counsel and other attorneys who were not familiar with the military justice process. Finally, after more than 5 years since my wrongful convictions, my family and I can finally get a good night's sleep, knowing our ordeal has finally concluded with positive results. Tami's fees are very reasonable; she is worth every penny. Not only is Tami a great lawyer, she is a great person. As you can imagine, my life has been very stressful during this period. Tami was always available to talk, and she took the time to explain things to me in detail so that I understood. She is very direct, realistic, and doesn't sugar-coat things, but she is also empathetic and goes the extra mile to connect with her clients on a human level. She also communicated with my family members and helped them understand the processes. She presented the humanity of my case, and my humanity, in a persuasive manner to those who would not otherwise consider someone like me a "victim"--a victim of false accusations. Hiring an attorney is an investment in yourself and your future. If you believe you deserve the best (and you do), then Tami is the attorney for you. She gives you hope when your case seems hopeless. If you are ever in a situation where you've been accused of sexual assault, I wholeheartedly recommend you contact Tami Mitchell. I would not want anyone else in my corner. I went to Qusair and his partner regarding some very messy discrimination and retaliation issues I was facing with my employer a couple of years ago, and ended up hiring him to represent me. The entire experience from beginning to end was handled with extreme care and thoughtfulness. I was treated with respect and compassion, but most importantly realism and a proper sense of urgency. I felt confident that my overall best interests were always being protected and strongly advocated for. In my past experiences with attorneys, I walked away from the transactions feeling as though I could have accomplished all that they did for me, in less time, and with far less of a financial burden on my own. In this instance, I know unequivocally, I could not possibly have had such a positive outcome in my case without Qusair's help specifically. It's challenging to describe all of the reasons I would recommend Qusair in just a few words. Qusair has a very strategic mind, and is always thinking at least ten steps ahead of the present and considering all of the angles. He is very good at reading people and doesn't give away his position until the right moment. He has a quiet, confident demeanor, but will advocate for you with the tenacity of a close family member. He does what every professional should aspire to do: Under-promise and over-deliver. In any employment law or civil rights legal dispute, I personally recommend Qusair Mohamedbhai for his legal expertise, resourcefulness, business savvy, and sense of awareness. He is the best of the best.

I was hesitant to sue my employer because I didn’t think that I had a case. My friend recommended that I call Qusair Mohamedbhai (he goes by "Q"). Q won the case and I received a sizable check (more than I expected). Throughout the litigation, Q was invaluable. He explained the legal terminology in an easy-to-understand manner, and always gave me notice when there were new developments. Beyond Q’s genuinely modest yet confident personality, he is brilliant. Q is strategic in every sense of the word. He has a natural understanding of the workplace environment, which came through clearly at all stages of the representation. During the mediation and trial, Q was passionate, smooth and articulate. I always felt like a priority. From the support staff to the other attorneys in the firm, I was consistently treated with respect. Q has my highest recommendation.

Theresa went above and beyond for me. Even when the other side got underhanded and really dirty, she had confidence in me as a client and it made me feel safe and secure in situations where I might have doubted myself or been afraid, such as giving my deposition (which otherwise would have terrified me). She was communicative where I asked her to be, but also kept things private from me when I requested it due to the stress of my case. She was knowledgeable and helpful in all manners and was always good at educating me on areas that I was confused about. I can't imagine my case would have gone as well without her. She was patient, understanding, kind, and trustworthy. I was able to reach a settlement with her assistance and I couldn't be more grateful.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
