I was wrongfully charged with simple assault, a situation that left me devastated. I felt completely overwhelmed by the emotional turmoil caused by my wife and the police. The stress and depression were unbearable. But everything changed when I met the Anthony Law Firm and their exceptional criminal lawyer, Mr. Joseph Alter. From the moment I engaged with Mr. Alter, I felt a sense of hope and reassurance. On the day of the court hearing, I witnessed firsthand what it means to have a lawyer who defends you with dignity, skill, and unwavering professionalism. Mr. Alter was not just my lawyer; he was a human being with a profound sense of morality and decency. His dedication to my case was evident in every word he spoke and every action he took. Thanks to Mr. Alter, I felt truly defended and understood. He restored my faith in the justice system and helped me navigate one of the most difficult times of my life with grace and confidence. I will always be grateful for his exceptional representation and the humanity he brought to my defense. I hope anyone else have my chance to work with this great ANTHONY POPE LAW FIRM and MR. On the morning of November 17, 2020 during the height of COVID, I reached out to the Anthony Pope Law Firm to schedule an appointment to discuss my accident case. Later that day I was sitting across from Anthony to discuss my case. What was most impressive was his quick response after spending 7-10 days calling numerous law offices and getting nowhere. He settled my case on May 5, 2021. The settlement was far more than I ever expected. From the time I first met Anthony, until my case was settled, he kept me informed during the entire process. Anthony and his staff were very professional. On June 28, 2023 I reached out to Anthony Pope to represent me in another accident case in which I had a slip and fall down a flight of stairs on April 4, 2023. After my surgery in August of 2023, Anthony settled my case on March 12, 2024. Once again Anthony and his staff always kept me informed during the entire process. I hope that I don't need his services again but if YOU need a lawyer your first call should be to the Anthony Pope Law Firm.

I went to Anthony for help with my husband’s case. I knew by looking at him, he was the man for the job. And he did not disappoint! He showed up to meet my husband one hour after I spoke with him and during Covid no less! He worked with me on his fee because he understood I was in a bad spot. He has walked us through everything and kept us up on all info immediately. Even after everything was all said and done, he still keeps up with us, unlike other lawyers. Anthony is extremely professional and diligent. He dots every I and crosses every T. It was amazing watching him argue in court…he’s a shark!!! He doesn’t back down like so many lawyers. He will fight…and how he loves to fight!!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Julie and her team for a few months; There was a lot of moving parts to my case, from children's custodies, name changes, among other things. All I have to say is WOW - Kudos to all of them! Even with a few hiccups here & there, we got it DONE! They're very attentive, friendly, and they show you they genuinely care about their clients. Her assistant Suzanne, was so helpful and sweet - they truly made the whole process easy and breezy. Thank you so much!!!

"I unfortunately had Alexandra Coglianese appointed as our parent coordinator. She exhibited bias and manipulated facts to fit her own narrative. Her dishonesty led to false statements, some of which she corrected when confronted. She even presented inaccurate information to the judge, some of which she later amended in an email sent at 7 PM the night before the hearing. Whether this was deliberate or due to incompetence, she failed to prioritize my daughter’s best interests by presenting misleading narratives to the court and making false statements and unsolicited recommendations. If you’re seeking someone who is fair, honest, and genuinely looks out for the child’s well-being, I recommend avoiding Alexandra Coglianese.”

I have been working with Alex for almost 15 years and she has helped me with two matrimonial cases. From day one, Alex dove deep into the facts of my case, was able to decipher through years of court documents and was absolutely tenacious in advancing and winning my cases. Not only is Alex a highly skilled professional and an excellent attorney, she took a personal interest in me and my children and left no stone unturned. Even when my second case was transferred out of state to North Carolina, Alex recommended an excellent local attorney and stayed involved throughout the whole process. I can’t thank Alex enough for her efforts, results, passion and dedication. I have dealt with many law firms/attorneys, both professionally (in my 35 year career) and personally and Alex is second to none and at the top of my list. I highly recommend Alex! AAA+++

I had an acrimonious divorce and when my ex lost her alimony, she decided to exact revenge on me by filing frivolous criminal charges at the county level...one of which was a felony level offense. I was referred to Kevin, and let me tell you, this was the single best referral I've ever received. First, he got the felony level charges remanded down to municipal charges. He then meticulously and relentlessly dissected them to clearly demonstrate that the charges were both exaggerated and clearly unwarranted. He worked closely with the prosecutor to demonstrate same, and in the end all the charges were dismissed. As a working professional myself, I would urge anyone who finds themselves on the business end of a prosecutor's wrath to hire Kevin. He is professional, extremely knowledgeable, ethical, and always responds even for the most trivial questions. He is truly one outstanding attorney!

In my first consultation with Joseph, I almost thought it was too good to be true. He was calm, straightforward but confident and at no point did I ever get the feeling he was blowing smoke up my you-know-what. He was on top of my case every step of the way and the outcome was better than anything I could've ever hoped for. It's not just hindsight bias, this is a trustworthy and skilled attorney and I would hire him again in an instant.

Mr. Fortunato is utterly untrustworthy and fails to fulfill even the most basic duties as a lawyer. Once you pay him the retainer, he will simply abandon your case. I hired him to send a response letter to the opposing party to establish legal representation, but after three months, he had done absolutely nothing. When I followed up, he didn't even remember who I was. He took no action and completely cut off communication regarding the retainer. He may have the title of lawyer, but in my experience, he is nothing short of a thief. I strongly advise against hiring him for any legal matters.

We did a project which included several change orders asked for by the Hicks at his residence . Mr. Hicks, a partner at this law firm , acted very unprofessional, his wife actually contacted my employees via text causing tortious interference with our contracts. While completing his contracts, we found his soil was sub par and full of clay and needed to be remediated. He and his wife practically had temper tantrums causing for an unbelievably unsuitable work environment at his home. Even with their attempts to cause harm to me and my company, we competed the contract. A year later, he claimed that some of the brick pavers moved, I explained to him that he refused to pay to remedy the soil situation and therefore it was not covered by our warranty. He proceeded to use his law degree to sue us, he filed suit for over $24,000.00 which included almost $12,000.00 in new landscaping which was not part of my contract. While delivering the discovery to his house, the driveway which he claimed to have been removed and reinstalled in his lawsuit had the same pavers sinking in the same spot a year after they were supposedly replaced.. if this partnership allows attorneys like this, who use their law license to try to steal from hard working contractors then I would say run away from this firm. They support disgraceful behavior like this from their partners! We just recently went to binding arbitration. The arbiter threw out 99% of his case and awarded him $2300.00, one tenth of what he was fraudulently suing me and my company for!

The following is my opinion: The lawyer is very good at appeals and means well for his client. If you are a client who does not know much about the law or wants someone to handle the details for you he would be good. If you are someone who has special needs or likes to have more control over the means and objectives then you should screen him more carefully and I suggest getting everything in detail in the contract up front.

I was referred to Archer and Greiner from a real estate attorney in Pennsylvania, I made the initial call, had a pleasant conversation, was asked to forward some documentation, which I did immediately. I was awaiting a call back and did not get one, so a few weeks having gone by, I called the office, was told the attorney that I was working with was busy, I never got a call back. I waited a few more weeks and called again, once again the receptionist told me that the attorney was not available. I informed the receptionist that this will be the second time I am doing this dance and that I am more than willing to pay for any services. I also informed her that I am a successfully retired business owner and had also served as a fighter pilot in the US Air Force, worthy of the attorney's phone call. I have not received a phone call back. I also registered this same complaint directly with Archer and Greiner via a contact form on their website, I have not heard anything from that communication either. I can only guess as to why. It would have to be one of 3 reasons, 1) The lawfirm is so disorganized that they cannot keep track of contacts and calls, 2) The attorney does not want the business 3) The firm is so busy that they are not taking on new clients. I would imagine and expect that a professional organization such as Archer and Greiner look to be, would in case 2 or 3 have the common decency to just tell me that, however, since they haven't I must conclude that the answer is either 1 or that they do not conduct themselves in a professional manner.

We need arbitration reform and arbitrator regulations. There are no valid checks and balances with truly getting a fair, impartial and unbiased process. Arbitrators have more power than a judge. Little to no appeal options with binding arbitration. With no valid checks and balances the arbitration process can portray as a scam. I had asked one arbitrator (a retired judge at this firm) to clarify a potential conflict and concerns of bias. Instead, the arbitrator dismissed the case without a hearing. I would not recommend the American Arbitration Association as the process is not fair, unbiased and impartial as they advertise. I had reached out to vice presidents to get involved with the process and they never even responded. The unfairness is so blatant, the area I was assigned, the AAA administrators do not even provide their own names. It's an ethics and moral issue if you can't put your name on your work.

Reached out to the firm over several months. The paralegal was not friendly and the reception was lovely. The paralegal called me back after three initial calls and stated after hearing my case that Mr. Barbone was going to hear my case and scheduled a Monday in September at 4:30. I prepared to speak with the attorney getting my stuff in order so it made sense for when he called, which never happened. I did not receive a call back at another time or day and after three times trying to reach an attorney to simply hear my case I decided not to call again.

Our attorney Kevin Dimedio of Dimedio Law in Haddonfield, NJ has reached out to Kenneth Miller and, John Leake Jr about these checks that John Leake Jr claims were all sent out at the same time now no one can seem to find 2 of them they are missing. Being an attorney I would think Kenneth Miller would advise his client to use priority mail with confirmation numbers when dealing with checks. Free advice for you Ken use it! It’s very unprofessional and, should be brought to someone’s attention so we can conclude this matter and, move on with our lives being as though everything was finalized by all parties involved. I’m sure our parents never dreamed this would be handled so terribly when they agreed to hire Kenneth Miller for a job this important dealing with their financial affairs. I couldn’t include this in my review I left on the firms website because it was removed for only telling the truth about this matter I figured email works well also. Hope you all enjoyed your lunch have a great rest of the day!

They put me in collections from something I did 12 years ago I have no idea what’s it’s for.. It happened in my 20s when I was married..They put not only my bank account on hold but they also put my teenage daughters on hold.. you can’t get in-touch with anyone all the phone does is ring and ring… The fact they took my daughters money is absolutely disgusting. The fact they are coming after me years later with no warning but one letter and I tried to call and resolve it no answer.. As a lawyers office I didn’t think you allow to touch a child money since this is not her responsibility..

Doug “Dougie Fresh“. Was an excellent lawyer. He did a great job fighting for me and got us a decent settlement. I recommend them.

Micheal failed to convey my demands for a settlement to my further employer, instead giving them the impression I was only after a monetary settlement, which is untrue. Unfortunately I did not learn this until I received my case file, which included uncorrected misspelling in negotiation emails to the apposing attorney. I’m embarrassed to have been represented in such an unprofessional manner.

I contacted Mr. DiChiara concerning a possible unlawful termination suit. I was aware that N.J. is more or less on the side of an employer, but I felt the need to make a last ditch effort for my own piece of mind. A few phone calls and emails transpired and then nothing, no further word from him. I followed-up with another phone call, but still no response. I'll have to assume that my potential case was tossed aside, but I have never officially been notified of that. Nothing like losing a job and then having a lawyer leave you high and dry as well.

Michael was the best. He worked with me in the evening, on the weekends, and when I needed consultation. He worked fast- and effectively. Ultimately, I got exactly what I was looking for from my employer- and I couldn't have done it without Michael. My baby was born on his due date and came out healthy- I have MIchael to thank for that. I would recommend Michael again in a heart beat and while I hope that I never have to hire Michael again- I would hire him again without hesitation.

Unless you can win your case within a month, this is not the lawyer for you. He cashed our retainer check, represented us for I hour before zoning board. When our case was tabled and then delayed because of covid, he ghosted us. After our persistent phone calls he called to say there was nothing he could do. He was not able to get us an appearance before the board so I did it myself. He was a no show when we did get to appear before the board so we had to represent ourselves. He is rude and has no social skills in dealing with people. You can definitely do better for legal representation. He's very confident when he's taking your check, after that he does not accept or return calls unless it benefits him.

Richard Abrahamsen is an attorney of the utmost skill and integrity. He has a uniquely brilliant analytic mind, an engaging personality, a quick and sparkling wit and a very warm, reassuring human compassion. He has represented us in all legal matters for the past two decades, including real estate transactions, business dealings, personal legal matters (i.e. wills. estates. etc.). Though his practice is quite busy, he finds the time to return calls and answer questions in full. Richard Abrahamsen is a formidable adversary. I rest assured knowing he works FOR my interests., It would be my worst nightmare to have an attorney of his caliber representing my opponent.

Ian helped me with setting up a living will and a power of attorney document; the process was simple and quick, and the price was very reasonable. He was very helpful in explaining everything. I will definitely be going to him for any future needs.

I needed Mr. Dember's advice on some matters of creating a new operating agreement, and his work helped us avoid many headaches down the line. I cannot recommend him enough!

Used Dember through the legal benefit from my firm for two real estate transactions. It was a horrible experience from beginning to end. The title company sent him documentation twice, which he did not forward to me until 3 days before the supposed closing. I immediately determined there was an error and spent the 3 days before closing trying to get it fixed. The stress was unbelievable, and should have never happened since this could have been addressed easily if it had been presented to us on a timely basis. The other professionals in the transactions (2 title companies, 2 realtors, 3 banks) all indicated that they were appalled by the way Dember transacted his business. Then when it was the other party who had paperwork issues that held up closing, Dember merely communicated the offer from the seller that we should pay them $100 per day for usage and occupancy. It was our realtor, who was there at the meeting, who insisted that the problem was with the seller and we shouldn't have to pay. Our realtor contacted their realtor and got an agreement where we paid $200 just to keep things moving, or we would have been out $500 or more. A good lawyer would have seen that we paid nothing since it was the other party's problem. I wasn't going to bother writing a review because I would rather just forget about the entire experience but then felt guilty about anyone else who hired him without any idea of what they would experience.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
