From the inception of my case they were professional, responsive and were an excellent representation for my case. I would and have since recommended any and everyone for legal services to this Wonderful firm. Thanks Curan and Ahmed’s for all your help. I’m most appreciative for all your assistance.

If I could give no stars I would. They are very rude. I can never speak to an attorney anytime I call. The receptionist is very rude when I call and act as if im bothering her. She always raises her voice. I could only speak with an attorney 15 min before my hearing to be rushed and spoken to rudely. The attorney himself said he cannot make someone do what the judge tells them to do. Who treats or talks to there clients that way. Last receptionist I spoke with told me she doesnt care what I do Terrible. Run

My mom and dad deal with this firms attitude. I don't know why because the lawyers that have assisted mom were / are rude, condescendingly racist and demeaning,. They don't call you when necessary. Don't consider your personal crisis. Don't respect their words. The person who answered the phone was disrespectful with my mom and when asked her name she ignored her and hung up. This is not how you do business nor are they/ were they professional. Misleading and believe that what is done behind closed doors won't come into the light. They need to deal accordingly with people. It's the people who keep the business going and they need to remember this. El pequeno Tonto estupido

I paid over $3,500 to Mr. Jonathan Bloom (at $400.00/hour!) for helping me against the HOA, who decided and requested me to remove a fence and a deck which had been approved by a former board, and by the City of Boca Raton 19 years ago. Jonathan actually named the board's decision as "ridiculous". And it is ridiculous. Actually, on top of that, the HOA made a selective enforcement, because other owner could keep a similar fence and deck. But at the end I lost the money I paid to Jonathan, and the fence, and the deck, and my privacy, and my security, and the value of my property dropped strongly down. A simple case became worst. I regret strongly hiring Jonathan Bloom.

Used Jonathan bloom for a RE transaction in the past I was definitely not pleased. I found him to be arrogant and not nearly as knowledgable as he suggests. He made several errors which became apparent after the transaction that were costly and when asking around this does not seem uncommon.. Would absolutely never use him again.

I hired Amy Bellatoni. She helped me write a letter for an application process that was denied with a 30 day explanation period in which to submit a statement. At that time I tried to contact Amy. She does not know how to pick up a phone. It was like squeezing water out of a rock for info. I emailed her for info which took all day back and forth for info that could have been solved in a 5 minute phone call. I have since attained another attorney and was told she should have never let me write the statement on my own. So if you like having communication with your lawyer I would definitely stay away from Amy Bellatoni.

To be clear, my review is regarding a consultation with Ms. Bellantoni. I did not retain her services. Initially, I was very impressed with Ms. Bellantoni's qualifications and even more so after I spoke with her regarding a discrimination issue with my employer. At the time, I filed a discrimination charge with the federal government which is a long process. While the charge was being processed I contacted Ms. Bellantoni. She was very pleasant, knowledgable, and supportive of my side. I emailed her a volume of supporting documents and she reviewed everything and followed up with me about a week later. We spoke at length regarding how she would proceed if I retained her services. Our conversation ended with her telling me that once I received a decision from the federal government, I should let her know, at which point we could proceed with filing a lawsuit. Frankly, she buoyed my confidence in a positive outcome, which is why I was so disappointed when she ignored all of my attempts to follow-up with her months later as previously discussed. I contacted her several times by phone and email and she never responded back. I even expressed confusion to her answering service, saying I already consulted with Ms. Bellantoni and was instructed to contact her once I reached this point. Unfortunately, I was not given any explanation. While I cannot speak on Ms. Bellantoni's performance as an attorney, I can say that it was completely unprofessional to leave me hanging the way she did. I am not an unreasonable person; I understand lawyers are very busy people and schedules change, and she may have had a legitimate reason to recuse herself from representing me. Nonetheless, all it would have taken her is one minute of her time to respond to any one of my emails or voicemails to say just that and I would of accepted her response and moved on. Instead, ignoring me produced this negative review.

Ordinarily I am NOT one to do "Reviews" online for services rendered however in certain cases I make an exception. THIS is one of those cases. Even though I'm retired and living in New Jersey, I found myself in need of a Law firm located in New York to handle some legal business for me and my family that was NY Centric. After several inquiries, it turned out that Mr Kutner came VERY highly recommended by people whose judgment I trust implicitly. I chose to go with him and I'm glad I did. His almost 50 YEARS experience handling THOUSANDS of cases across EVERY LEGAL DISCIPLINE enabled him to take an EXTREMELY convoluted situation with at least a half dozen interested parties and effortlessly unravel it and solve the problem perfectly to the satisfaction of ALL concerned. And it was finished in a minimum amount of billable time which was a MOST welcome outcome. Thank God for his efficient skills and honesty. I had DREADED the thought of what a "NY Lawyer" was going to do to an "Absentee" client. Thankfully with Mr Kutner my concerns were TOTALLY UNFOUNDED as his INTEGRITY is BEYOND REPROACH!! JUST as my acquaintances had informed me when they originally recommended him by the way. After my total experience I now would unhesitatingly add MY voice to those who HIGHLY recommended him for ANY Legal issue you have to contend with!

SINCE HIRING THIS ATTORNEY HARRY H. KUTNER JR. , IT’S BEEN ABOUT ELEVEN YEARS AGO THAT MR. KUTNER JR. HAS BEEN FILING COURT PAPERS AGAINST ME TO COLLECT MONEY THAT HE NEVER EARNED. HE DID GET PAID MONEY FROM MY FAMILY ON MY BEHALF WHEN HE WAS HIRED, AND HE NEVER GAVE A CONTRACT TO BE SIGNED. HE SAW MY FAMILY ON MY BEHALF TWICE AT HIS OFFICE AND MAYBE GO ON ONE TRIP TO COURT BUT RESOLVED TO DO NOTHING FOR ME. MR. KUTNER JR. TOOK MY PASSPORT (AS AN ID AND EVIDENCE) ON THE FIRST VISIT. ON THE SECOND VISIT TO HIS OFFICE HARRY H. KUTNER JR. TOLD MY FAMILY THAT HE WOULD NOT RETURN MY ID IF HE DOES NOT GET A CERTAIN LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR IT. MY FAMILY AND I NEVER MADE ANY AGREEMENTS WITH HARRY H. KUTNER JR. TO PAY THIS MONEY FOR A PERSONAL ITEM THAT HE FAILED TO RETURN WHICH RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO ME.

I hired Ronald Benjamin to represent a criminal case. I paid him the fee for his services and he did nothing! For three days he called me to his office both at home and public office in Binghamton NY. His behavior was very odd, not to mention he said " If I have to go to trial in this case, my fee is $3500 more. We're talking five grand, can you swing it? " He told me this doesn't have to go to trial. But I am replacing the incompetent public defender Kevin Ridell. He called the court and did the necessary protocol to replace the public defender Kevin Ridell. He went to court and did nothing but repeat what the public defender said, and gave no defense whatsoever. On the third day he told the defendant in custody he withdrew from the case the second day in front of Judge Dooly without my knowledge or permission to do so. I asked for a refund of my fee for services not rendered and misleading, false representation, questionable remarks and gestures while meeting with him at his office several times. He is a convicted felon, tax evader, gambler, hustler and has had his license revoked many times. He said I paid him to go to court not as a defense attorney, but as a second opinion. He refused to give me a full refund and is clearly not an attorney at all. He's a known criminal. Warning: Do not ever hire this man. His background speaks for itself!

Mr Benjamin has been my Attorney for two separate cases. I have known him since early 2005. He handled both of my cases accurately and with good ,fair results in my favor. His litigation skills in court were impeccable. Not at anytime did he smell of alcohol or was drunk. He can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. His office desk had a stack of files on one side and a stack of exercise and nutrition guides on the other. I found him to be interesting, respectful, client focused and very knowledgeable to my legal issue.

I cannot ever recommend this lawyer. She really hurt my case by not providing all the facts to me, while also misrepresenting matters, and making unilateral decisions on her own. She did not know how to correctly file even a basic pendente lite with proper supporting documents. Also when the Judge gave any orders, she would incorrectly interpret them. It is difficult to believe that was possible considering her many years of experience. Unfortunately, she also maintained a very hostile and acrimonious relationship with opposing counsel, and did not provide me all and especially crucial letters and paperwork from them. She was very expensive and billed for many hours of work that she could not possibly have put in. She was a very glib and smooth talker, and as she called herself a collaborative lawyer, I was mistaken into thinking she would try to settle the case. I was wrong, the case actually dragged on as she created many problems as a result of her failing to keep track of required legal technicalities in a timely manner. She set a very bad and poor tone for my case from outset, so later on the other attorney I was forced to hire had a very difficult time trying to get things back on track. She consumed huge amounts of money while getting a very poor outcome for my children. The Judge can only make decisions based on what is presented to him. She appeared to be intimidated while speaking to Judge or the Law secretary in chambers, so did not state facts. Also damaging was that she did not convey to me clearly or actually misrepresented what was said or advised by the Judge. I doubt this is an ethical way of practicing law. If required I can provide actual and specific instances. I do not have words strong enough to warn you to stay away from this attorney, unless you want a mess on your hands. I am writing this to try and make sure others do not suffer consequences similar to mine.

I met Joanna at a domestic violence meeting, in 2000. Joanna arrived there with two of her late father’s secretaries, to give a (coached) speech to victims of domestic violence. Joanna was well- rehearsed & she convinced a few of us to hire her, to represent us , in our respective court cases. It didn’t take long for me to see her fraudulent facade. Joanna could not handle herself, in a courtroom. Each court appearance, she brought along 2-3 seasoned attorneys, from her late father’s law firm, to do all the talking for her. Joanna LIED to me about her skills, experience and qualifications. Joanna also failed to disclose that she was FIRED from her law school internship after 7 months, due to incompetence. This was stated to me by two different attorneys who, at the time, were employed by Joanna’s father, the Late Gary Greenwald. I was also informed by both of these attorneys, that Joanna’s internship required a two year commitment. I am confident that Joanna’s late fathers, pulled some strings and BOUGHT Joanna her law degree! Joanna never worked for ANYONE, other than her late father, presumably, because no one else would hire her. I FIRED Joanna after a few months, because she did not do any actual work on my case, though she was always diligent in finding means to pad the bill. After being repeatedly told by me not to do so, she would continuously call my home, when she knew I was unavailable, leave frivolous messages on my answering machine, then bill me for the calls. Joanna would bill me for HOURS and HOURS of reading time, both from my file and from doing RESEARCH, meanwhile, I saw NO RESULTS, in my case. I threatened Joanna’s late father, Gary Greenwald, with contacting the BAR ASSOCIATION, if the bill padding didn’t stop, my legal bill DRASTICALLY REDUCED & Joanna being REMOVED from my case. Gary Greenwald complied with my demands. Joanna continued to be a thorn in my side, even after Joanna’s father assigned a new attorney to my case. Joanna was caught several times, hanging around outside the attorney’s office, attempting to eavesdrop on case discussions. Joanna was very fortunate, being able to live her entire life of of other people’s earnings. Joanna never earned an honest dime, in her life and neither did her father. Her learned thievery should not be tolerated. Joanna is NOT an honest person. I HIGHLY recommend AVOIDING HER!!!

I've had the misfortune of dealing with this lawyer and it was by far one of my worst experience. He isn't very trustworthy, in fact he broke an agreement. Horace is unresponsive to calls. He doesn't alert you about your case. In fact, you will find yourself doing most of the work. He has filed an application THREE times, each time missing parts or incorrectly filed. If you are paying the money get a knowledgeable lawyer that has earned his degree from a more reputable college. Trust me, it's unnerving to trust Horace with anything that is important to you. Heed my warning and stay away but if you do choose to deal with him, be very attentive, and push him to get the job done. It is my intentions to help someone else out there because God knows, I wish someone did the same for me.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
