My experience with Marcellus Parker was certainly a positive outcome. He was very well spoken addressing all my concerns and very professional addressing the commissioner, keeping communication straight forward and on point. I also would like to note that the Administrative Assistant was also very kind, helpful, and professional as well. Which helps with making you feel more confident and comfortable despite the circumstances, yet throughout the process.

We had the pleasure of working with Johner Allison and I cannot recommend him enough. From the first conversation, we felt at ease due to his compassionate and down-to-earth approach. He took the time to listen to our concerns and provided clear, knowledgeable advice throughout the entire process. If you're looking for someone who truly cares about your case every step of the way, I would recommend Mr.Allison.

I wanted to write this review and recognize Attorney Joe Bugni and his assistant Trinity for their hard work and dedication in helping my wife and I. Navigating through the legal system can seem to be an overwhelming task. When my wife and I needed legal help we contacted Mr. Bugni for help. Mr. Bugni sat down with us, took notes, and devised a plan with his assistant Trinity on how best to address our situation. Mr. Bugni and Trinity talked to us like old friends, not attorney and clients, putting us very much at ease. As our case proceeded Trinity put together a timeline and outlined our case, so we could understand it. Trinity was always available and answered all questions we asked. Trinity and Mr. Bugni presented our case in terms that we could understand, which makes us feel better knowing what is happening. My wife and I strongly recommend Mr. Bugni and Trinity if you find yourself needing legal advice. They will take the time to sit down with you, listen, and provide a plan that you understand. Mr. Bugni and Trinity make themselves available, and answer any and all questions you may have. Thank you Mr. Bugni and Trinity for all of your help, and for taking time to help us navigate through the legal process. Scott and Tina

After my brother-In_law sat in MCJ for 18 months going through one incompetent PD after another I retained Mr. McClure. Something that four PD's were not able to do and countless private attorney's were not willing to do without charging an arm and a leg.

Mr. Thomas McClure, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me with all my Waukesha court cases and the process of getting through it. I am very happy with the results and I’m glad the judge is giving me a chance to make things right again. The probation will definitely help me continue to stay sober from alcohol and substances, which is a good thing. It’ll be better for me to quit drinking, not just to stay out of jail, but also for my health and future life as well. Thanks again for your help in all of this. For anyone that is looking for a very professional and skilled lawyer that can get you the best results, I would recommend experienced lawyer, Mr. Thomas McClure.

Rick was recommended by a friend for a worker’s comp case I had. This was the first time I’ve ever had to use an attorney and hopefully the last. He did a wonderful job with my case and we avoided court and a settlement that I was very happy with. If you ever have the pleasure of working with him, he will give you the very best. What you might not know about him is the numerous awards he has received, voted on by other attorneys in the state. Tell you what, the best in the business don’t need to spend millions on advertising every year or hire Hollywood actors for their commercials!

I was lucky enough to get Attorney Elizabeth Rich twice using the Avvo Legal Services Portal for consultations regarding a very complicated issue involving a small church in Wisconsin. Elizabeth was the first attorney I spoke to using Avvo, and I walked away from that phone call telling myself that was the best thing I ever did. She armed me with concrete next steps as well as a handful of different resources to help me find more information. I really had no idea where to turn at that point and Elizabeth pointed me in a direction which catapulted me forward. Almost a month later, using the Avvo Legal Services portal again, I was assigned Attorney Elizabeth. When I realized it was her I was absolutely delighted. Sure enough, she listened to how things had progressed and even told me she had reached out to lawyers in the area about my case to see if anyone was willing to help. It was just what I needed to feel hopeful again and feel a sense of direction. I highly recommend Attorney Elizabeth Rich, she will listen to your story and do her best to give you honest and thoughtful advice.

My husband and I hired Jonathan after having a dispute with a contractor. This was the first time either one of us had ever hired a lawyer. Jonathan was highly recommended by a colleague and we immediately understood why. I texted him requesting urgent help on a Thursday night as our issue was time sensitive. He responded that evening and by Friday morning, we had hired him. He was able to efficiently gather enough information to start addressing our urgent concern that Friday afternoon. Within the week, our situation was resolved to our satisfaction. His responsiveness and professionalism was outstanding. He helped set expectations and educate us. He was upfront about expected costs for our case and when we ended up exceeding that, he honored his initial quote. We are in the middle of an adoption and he told us to take the difference of the quote and actual cost of his services and apply it towards the adoption. It was not expected and he certainly was not obligated to do this but was greatly appreciated. If we ever need a lawyer again, we will not hesitate to reach out. I have already provided his information to another co-worker.

My job was eliminated after 18 yrs. I was 1 of 3 over age 60 eliminated. Since there were new employees and less seniority employees , i felt i was let go unfairly with age discrimination. Jonathan fought for a new severance contract against the medical corporation and won. He achieved double the severance i was offered per "their protocol" that was unfair. Jonathan was kind, calm, explained what i didnt understand ( which was most legal terminology!) And worked with me as my own advocate. Advising and suggesting. Timely , tenacious ( did not let down his drive to succeed in our goal.) Smart , timely, direct. I consulted and hired him within 2 days of losing my job. Highly recommend Jonathan.

Mike has done legal work for me both personally and for each of my past three businesses over the last 15 years. He has helped me with employment related issues, purchasing and selling my companies, disputes, as well as general corporate legal work. He has always been there for me through both good times and bad. He is extremely responsive and thorough. He knows not only Wisconsin employment law almost better than anyone, but is also a great litigator/negotiator. His firm has also attracted several like minded individuals with legal skills and experience that compliment Mike's own expertise. Since I have worked with almost every Tier-1 law firm in Wisconsin over the years (in addition to some big firms in Chicago, New York, and Boston), I would say Mike is just as good (if not better) than any of those firms (or the best attorneys at those firms), and obviously his bill rates are much more reasonable! Mike is by far the best attorney I have ever worked with.

In late 2014 I decided, along with two partners, to start a small business developing smartphone applications for Android and Apple devices. My partners and I decided to move from brainstorm to business after we realized we could be making money on our fun side coding projects. We quickly found out that having an idea for a business is much different than actually forming a business. We approached Mike with questions on what it takes to form an LLC in Wisconsin. Mike was generous with his time, knowledge and advice. We found out we needed much more than the simple LLC documents. Over the course of a number of meetings, Mike and his knowledgeable and qualified attorneys walked us through all of the legal considerations involved in starting a business with partners. Mike’s firm drafted our Operating Agreement, LLC paperwork and anything else that was involved with making our business official. Mike was available to answer any questions we had during the process and continues to be there for counsel during our opening months. In our first year of business, we have found ourselves coming back to Mike again and again for advice on matters we would have never thought we would’ve needed an attorney for. Anything from contract drafting and negotiation to advice on how to handle our competition; Mike and the lawyers at his firm have been available and indispensable. I would recommend Mike Erhard to anyone looking to start a small business. He and the attorneys who work for his firm have helped to make our first year smooth and successful.

Chad helped me with a speeding ticket. I originally had 4 points taken off my license and he got it down to 0. Through the whole experience he was very reassuring and answered any and all questions I had right away. He was very knowledgeable and knew exactly how to handle the situation professionally. Chad kept in touch with me regularly to keep my posted on how the situation was going. I also felt very comfortable talking to him and trusted him to get the job done well. I would definitely recommend Chad and will go to him again if need be.

Ray Clausen was interested in my case and understood the constitutional principle behind the"Good Fight." I found Ray to be caring and totally committed to justice. He was willing to listen to me and he took the time to fully understand the case at hand. Mr Clausen also understood that this was not a lawsuit that I wanted and both he and myself sought to avoid. Mr Clausen was extremely supportive and I appreciate his professionalism, integrity and commitment to the law and his clients. I would highly recommend the law firm of Clausen and Severson to anyone in need of legal services.

I don’t think it’s very often you find the two words “reputable lawyer” paired together; however when referring to Fred Melms, it’s a perfect match. Of course you can add knowledgeable, compassionate, considerate, genuine as well as a fantastic communicator inside the courtroom and out. One of the things that impressed me about Mr. Melms is he didn’t try to impress me with his knowledge, nor did he need to. Instead he laid out our case in layman terms, made me feel comfortable and not stupid and he was not judgmental in any way. I cannot begin to thank him enough for a successful outcome…he’s genius and incredibly real. Needless to say I highly recommend him. Please know, if he cannot help you, he will be upfront with you and refer you elsewhere if needed.

Mr Buting has been worked diligently on all of our cases all the way thru the process with superb results in all cases. He pays particular attention to details and stays one step ahead of prosecutors by knowing what cards to show and when to say NO. Mr Buting was superior to lawyers we had used in past cases. Mr Buting covered areas on our cases which in the past other lawyers had little experiance how to research and lay out defenses . I would highly recommed Mr Buting if you have a complex case needing a intelligent caring lawyer.

I've had other lawyers before and nobody compares. Attorney Brittain didn't tell me to take a deal because I would lose. Instead, he listened to me and told me we should fight and go to trial. He did a psycho-drama with me and it was amazing. After the psycho-drama, I understood how he was going to win my trial. He is a fantastic lawyer!

I'm incredibly grateful for Larry Albrecht's services. He counseled me regarding employment-related issues and helped me achieve my desired outcome. He handled negotiations and kept me informed throughout the process. One of the benefits of hiring Larry is that he can consult the other attorneys in his firm who may specialize in a certain area. For example, when a situation arose regarding a potential workers compensation claim, Larry reached out to his colleague who is a workers comp expert for a second opinion. Larry is a very knowledgeable attorney who acts with great professionalism. I appreciated how efficiently he worked and how mindful he was of my time. He made my situation much less stressful! I believe anyone who chooses Larry, can rest assured that they are in good hands.

What a Civil Rights Lawyer Can Do for You

A civil rights lawyer focuses on protecting individuals whose constitutional rights have been violated by government authorities, employers, or private organizations. These lawyers specialize in cases involving discrimination, police misconduct, freedom of speech, and other fundamental rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution and civil rights laws, such as the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Fair Housing Act.

Whether you've been discriminated against due to race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics, or you believe your civil rights have been violated by a government entity, a civil rights lawyer can help you seek justice, hold wrongdoers accountable, and secure compensation for any harm you've suffered.

When Should I Hire a Civil Rights Lawyer?

You should hire a civil rights lawyer when your constitutional rights or other protected rights have been violated, and you need legal assistance to seek justice. Some key situations in which you may need a civil rights lawyer include:

  • Employment discrimination: If you have faced discrimination at work based on race, gender, age, religion, national origin, or disability, a civil rights lawyer can help you file claims under laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Police misconduct or brutality: If you were the victim of police brutality, unlawful arrest, racial profiling, or other forms of misconduct, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit for violations of your Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
  • Freedom of speech or assembly violations: If your First Amendment rights to free speech or peaceful assembly have been restricted by the government, a civil rights lawyer can represent you in challenging the violation.
  • Housing discrimination: If you’ve been denied housing or faced unfair treatment due to your race, ethnicity, gender, or disability, a lawyer can help you file a complaint under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Voter rights violations: If you believe your right to vote has been unfairly suppressed or you’ve faced discrimination in the voting process, a civil rights lawyer can help you fight for your rights.
  • Disability rights violations: If you’ve faced discrimination in accessing public spaces, employment, or services due to a disability, a lawyer can help enforce your rights under the ADA.
  • LGBTQ+ rights violations: If you've experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public services, a civil rights lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.

Hiring a lawyer early on can help you understand your legal options and build a strong case to protect your rights.

What Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Do?

A civil rights lawyer provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals whose rights have been violated. Their work can include:

  • Filing lawsuits: A civil rights lawyer can represent you in court by filing lawsuits against individuals, businesses, or government entities that violated your rights.
  • Advocating for policy changes: Civil rights lawyers often engage in advocacy work, pushing for reforms to laws and policies that infringe upon people's rights.
  • Representing clients in discrimination claims: These lawyers help clients file claims with federal or state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, civil rights lawyers work to negotiate settlements for their clients before a case goes to trial, securing compensation for damages such as lost wages, emotional distress, or legal fees.
  • Defending freedom of expression: Lawyers may represent clients whose rights to free speech, assembly, or protest were violated by government restrictions or other actions.
  • Handling appeals: If your civil rights case has been decided but you wish to appeal the ruling, a civil rights lawyer can help you through the appeals process.

How Are Civil Rights Lawyers Paid?

Civil rights lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many civil rights lawyers work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win your case. Their fee is typically a percentage (usually 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that require extensive legal research or litigation, some lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some civil rights lawyers or organizations may work on a pro bono (free) basis or use a sliding fee scale for clients who cannot afford typical legal fees.
  • Flat fee: In specific cases, a lawyer may charge a flat fee for services like drafting legal documents or filing a complaint.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Civil Rights Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a civil rights lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of legal issue. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fee cases: For cases taken on a contingency basis, the lawyer’s fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Many civil rights lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For straightforward legal tasks, such as filing a complaint with a government agency or drafting legal documents, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Pro bono work: Some civil rights lawyers or nonprofit organizations provide free legal representation in certain cases involving important constitutional or civil rights issues.

Be sure to ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation to understand the financial commitment involved.

Top Questions to Ask a Civil Rights Lawyer

Before hiring a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with civil rights cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s employment discrimination, police misconduct, or First Amendment violations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my case?
Ask the lawyer to provide an honest assessment of your case, including the strengths, weaknesses, and potential outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Inquire about the lawyer’s experience in cases with similar facts and legal issues.
  5. What is the timeline for resolving my case?
While exact timelines can vary, ask for an estimate of how long your case may take, from filing to resolution.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may work on parts of your case, so it’s important to know who will handle your legal matter directly.

How to Check the Credibility of a Civil Rights Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable civil rights lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific civil rights experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in civil rights law and have a history of handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience with civil rights cases.
  • Check for advocacy or nonprofit work: Lawyers involved with civil rights organizations, such as the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, may have a strong reputation in the civil rights legal community.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a civil rights lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A detailed account of the violation: Provide a written summary of the events, including dates, times, and any people involved in the violation of your rights.
  • Documentation and evidence: Bring any supporting documentation, such as emails, letters, photos, or video footage that may help prove the violation of your rights.
  • Records of complaints or reports: If you’ve filed complaints with a government agency or reported the violation, bring copies of those documents.
  • List of questions: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes of your case.
  • Information on damages or harm: Be prepared to discuss the harm you’ve suffered due to the violation, such as emotional distress, financial loss, or physical injury.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
