My HOA ignored my concerns about the grading behind my townhouse for 3 years. In a huge rain, my window well blew out and about 5 thousand gallons of water buried my basement. The HOA said they are not responsible for interiors. I looked on AVVO, found Ball & McCann and sent a message on a Sunday. Steve called me in 10 minutes. Long story short, 8 weeks later, I had a check for the total damage. Everything they have done for me has been professional, quickly executed, and very affordable. Highly recommended.

My husband and I experienced a devastating loss several years ago, and did not know where to turn. We found ourselves scourged by unscrupulous people, scavengers whose only interest was to make money. We unknowingly hired people who deceived us into thinking that they could solve all of our problems. We eventually realized that these lawyers had deceived us with false promises. We looked on Avvo, and contacted Steve McCann and Drew Ball. After spending countless hours talking to them and sending them all the correspondence we had relating to our case, we felt complete confidence in choosing them to represent us. They have always been available and supportive, and we feel confident that the smartest thing we did was to hire Ball and McCann. Our case is coming to a close, and Steve and Drew have worked diligently to assure us that we will be very well compensated monetarily. More importantly, it gives us great comfort to know that Steve McCann and Drew Ball are there for us. We value their trustworthiness and consider them to be our friends. Sincerely, Joe and Wendy

After my dad passed away in April 2024, my mom and I filed for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) through the VA. Despite working with a VA liaison and following up for 10 months, we received no real updates—just that the claim was still pending. Then, my mom received a notice from the VA, which she mistakenly believed was a denial of the DIC claim. Unfortunately, even the local VA liaison misinterpreted it, causing a lot of confusion. Given that my dad’s passing was clearly linked to his disability, we realized we needed legal representation and turned to James Comerford. From our first conversation, James took the time to listen, understand our situation, and guide us through the process. Initially, we thought we needed to file a rebuttal, but after investigating, he discovered the VA had actually misinformed us—the claim was still being processed. He assured us he would follow up, and shortly after, he called with the great news: the claim had been approved. Not only did he get us answers, but he also knew exactly when my mom would receive her benefits, including back pay. When I asked James what we owed him, he refused payment—he was simply happy my mom received what she deserved. Even after I insisted, he suggested we make a donation to a charity instead, which we did. His generosity, professionalism, and genuine care for his clients truly set him apart. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, responsive, and compassionate attorney who will fight for you and keep you informed every step of the way, I highly recommend James Comerford. He’s not just a great lawyer—he’s a good person who truly cares -Gary Hahn

We highly recommend White Law wfirm to which we were fortunate to find on a web search . After interviewing them along with several other firms,we quickly concluded they were the most knowledgable and expetienved. They informed us about the process to file a FINRA complaint and the various steps In the process to resolve . They were always professional and efficient in understanding cases d preparing key documents. They guided us thru the mediation, set realistic expectations and represented us well with the mediator . We were very p’eased with the settlement they got for us. And highly recommend them

As a small business owner that made a terrible honest mistake with IRS taxes, we were referred to Lane Marc Gensburg by our CPA . After a short call and a reasonable retainer amount of 3k Lane started working on my case, getting information about our situation, we were positive we got the right guy! ABSOLUTELY NOT! This is the type of lawyer you need to stay away from, he transfer our case to Michael Gutting from his office, this guy was a total joke, he made us provide all the paperwork we provide Lane again, and of course he charge us for it again, this time the bill come back more than twice the retainer amount, we immediately called Lane , overwhelmed by the bill amount, Lane told us that the majority of the work was done and we should not get anything significant bills, but of course we did!!! Not only that the bills kept coming he also wasn't informed at all of our case progress, I remember we had a conference call between Michael, Lane and my business partner and he didn't have a clue on what's going on with our case. Not only he was just a very expensive way to transfer all of our business financial information to the IRS agent, we end up worse then before we hired him, the tax agent was pissed and before his office start working on this case, the tax agent was willing to help us with payment plans and was going to recommend reducing the penalties, but that was not the case anymore. At the end of the day if Lane was honest with us he should take our case as an adviser and get the CPA that freered us to him to provide the paperwork to the IRS. Again we are a small business and almost 20k fees are not proportional.

Going into this process across the country was scary, and my first attorney failed me, which is how I found this law firm. MIKAYLA AND MORGAN ARE AMAZING!! I can not thank them enough for effortlessly defending me and parenting rights. They have truly brought peace and unification back to my family. If you feel at a loss or don't know where to start when it comes to custody agreements and divorce I strongly recommend this duo! If you both don't know yet. If I could I would rate 10+ stars. Mr.Kenan Obaid is a great criminal defense attorney. We weren't sure at first because we didn't know what to do. When I first spoke with him he sounded very confident and promising which helped reduce and relieve the stress. I also want to note that he answered everyone one of my calls & texts no matter the time. He is very experienced he knows the judges and prosecutors very well. It was Friday the 13th but it didn't feel like it. He got the case dismissed and told us what we needed to do next. We're more than happy with the outcome. I would highly recommend anyone with any criminal charges to consult with Mr. Kenan Obaid his fees are very reasonable for the quality of his work. He's very personable and he smells great.

Unprofessional and dishonest Attorney, the majority of the 5 Stars reviews are not trustworthy coming from the attorney friends, family members and newly created Google accounts with only one review. RESPONSE. "I know you report all the negative reviews to keep the 5 stars rating, If you can't see my name when you search the database, then that is another lie you're accustomed to telling. I will never hire you again, nor will I recommend you to my friends and family."

I was referred to Mr. Stuart M. Clarke from another Attorney named Robert Clarke (no relations), who was referred to me by my 49th Ward office of Joe Moore. I know, that's a lot of referrals to get to one person, but it was totally worth it!. Stuart M. Clarke, a Senior Associate Attorney with Berton N. Ring. P.C., took on my case back in January 2016. After several years of attempting to get my homeowner's roofing issue resolved on my own, Mr. Clarke fought and battled very hard and successfully on my behalf. He is brilliant, professional, very polite and gets to the point with options that are available and realistic. He is Blessed and precise with knowledge pertaining to the law. I would most definitely highly recommend Mr. Stuart M. Clarke of Berton R. Ring for any real estate issues.

Stuart was very responsive as my attorney and gave me timely and professional information regarding my case. Even though Mr. Clarke has many clients/cases, he was able to give me my options once I hired him and was honest about what he saw as my options and provide me with timely responses to my questions. He was very professional, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Mr. Clarke for his knowledge and professionalism in representation.

There are a few times in my life where hindsight was 20-20. Looking back, one of the biggest mistakes I made was not having Dick Kates defend me in a very complicated white-collar criminal case. Dick had defended my closed down school against a class-action brought on by students, but perpetrated by greedy attorneys. Dick was quick to evaluate our situation and formulated a defense. Back in the 1990s, Dick was a bit gruff, not computer friendly or the least bit pretentious, but he worked fervently on our case for three years, getting it dismissed in federal court. He also came to our rescue when we were indicted on 32 counts by the federal government. Seeing the United States of America vs. little guy and knowing that the government wins over 95% of its cases will put the fear of God into you. Kates jumped right in immediately upon our request calling US Attorneys and federal judges. He knew for a fact that we were innocent and was fervent in his approach filing motion after motion without the use of computer technology. Unfortunately, I believed we needed the absolute best, most sophisticated, renowned litigator and law firm. Dick, the gentleman that he is bowed out, recommending an attorney who was named one of the nation's top 10 litigators by the National Law Journal. He was elected as a fellow and to the boards of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Tax Counsel and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He defended the likes of Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa, mobster Allen Dorfman, Operation Greylord Judge John Reynolds. We spent and hocked and worked for and traded everything we could to get this attorney and his law firm to defend us. Unfortunately, like I said before it was the wrong decision, and I lost everything – my credibility, my wife, millions of dollars, my homes boats cars. I was sentenced to jail for 53 months and have been paying restitution that totals almost $2 million ever since. My point is if you are looking for a great attorney, look beyond the gruff and technical abilities, look for character, knowledge, someone who's not afraid to work or stand up for you, someone who will fight in the trenches, be loyal to your cause much more than chasing the Almighty Buck. That's Attorney Dick Kates. (I wonder if I ever said thank you)

We absolutely loved working with Genevieve. She was attentive, quick to respond, and as knowledgeable as anyone could ask for. This was our second time purchasing a home with her legal counsel and we'll plan on continuing to use her every time down the road. She may be the only person I've come across who's responding to emails quicker than I am at 11PM. We can't recommend her highly enough.

What a Class Action Lawyer Can Do for You

A class action lawyer specializes in representing groups of individuals who have suffered similar harm or injury due to the actions of a company, organization, or government entity. These lawyers file lawsuits on behalf of a large group (the "class") of individuals, seeking compensation or relief for damages caused by things like defective products, environmental harm, consumer fraud, or employment violations. Class action lawyers are skilled in managing complex legal processes that involve numerous plaintiffs and large-scale legal claims.

If you’ve been harmed by a product, service, or corporate action that also affected many others, a class action lawyer can help you join or initiate a collective lawsuit to seek justice and compensation.

When Should I Hire a Class Action Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a class action lawyer if you and a group of people have experienced harm or damages under similar circumstances. Common scenarios include:

  • Defective products: If a product you purchased caused injury, illness, or other harm due to a defect, a class action lawyer can help you join a lawsuit against the manufacturer or retailer.
  • Consumer fraud: If a company has misled consumers through false advertising, deceptive business practices, or scams, a class action lawsuit can be filed to seek compensation on behalf of all affected customers.
  • Employment violations: If your employer has violated labor laws - such as failing to pay overtime, denying benefits, or enforcing discriminatory policies - a class action lawyer can represent a group of employees seeking justice.
  • Data breaches: If a company’s negligence led to a data breach that compromised your personal information, you may be able to join a class action lawsuit seeking compensation for the breach.
  • Environmental damage: If you or your community has been harmed by environmental hazards, such as pollution or toxic waste, a class action lawyer can file a collective lawsuit against the responsible party.
  • Unfair financial practices: If a bank, lender, or credit card company engaged in fraudulent or illegal financial practices, a class action lawyer can help a group of consumers recover losses.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process helps ensure that you meet legal deadlines and that your case is properly prepared for a potential class action lawsuit.

What Does a Class Action Lawyer Do?

A class action lawyer provides a range of legal services to represent large groups of individuals in lawsuits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Investigating the claim: The lawyer investigates the facts of the case, including gathering evidence of harm, identifying potential plaintiffs, and determining whether a class action lawsuit is the best course of action.
  • Filing the lawsuit: The lawyer files the class action lawsuit on behalf of the named plaintiffs (the representative plaintiffs) and others who have experienced similar harm.
  • Class certification: One of the first steps in a class action is getting the court to certify the case as a class action. The lawyer will argue that the case meets the legal requirements for certification, such as the number of plaintiffs and commonality of harm.
  • Communicating with plaintiffs: Class action lawyers keep plaintiffs informed throughout the process, including notifying potential class members about the lawsuit and giving them the opportunity to join the case.
  • Negotiating settlements: Many class action lawsuits are resolved through settlements before going to trial. The lawyer will negotiate with the defendant to reach a settlement that compensates the class for their losses.
  • Representing the class in court: If the case goes to trial, the lawyer will represent the entire class, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and arguing for the plaintiffs.
  • Managing claims distribution: Once a settlement or verdict is reached, the lawyer helps manage the process of distributing compensation to class members, ensuring that all eligible plaintiffs receive their share of the award.

How Are Class Action Lawyers Paid?

Class action lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if the class action lawsuit is successful. Here’s how their payment structure generally works:

  • Contingency fee: Class action lawyers usually take a percentage of the settlement or judgment as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 25% to 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the amount of work involved.
  • No upfront fees: You generally won’t have to pay any fees upfront. The lawyer covers the costs of the lawsuit, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs, and is reimbursed from the settlement or award.
  • Court approval of fees: In class action cases, the court must approve the lawyer’s fee to ensure that it is reasonable. This helps protect class members from paying excessive legal fees.

Always discuss fee arrangements with your lawyer at the outset to understand how much they will be paid if the lawsuit is successful.

How Much Does a Class Action Lawyer Cost?

Class action lawyers generally work on contingency, meaning they don’t get paid unless the lawsuit is successful. Here’s a breakdown of potential costs:

  • Contingency fee: Class action lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the settlement or judgment. For example, if the lawsuit settles for $10 million and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, the lawyer would receive $3 million, and the remaining $7 million would be distributed to the class members.
  • Court costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer will deduct the costs associated with the lawsuit, such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation costs. These costs are usually reimbursed from the settlement or award.
  • No cost if the case is lost: If the class action lawsuit is unsuccessful, you typically won’t owe any legal fees or costs. The lawyer assumes the financial risk of the case.

It’s important to discuss potential costs and fee structures with your lawyer before the case proceeds to ensure transparency and avoid any surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Class Action Lawyer

Before hiring a class action lawyer, you should ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with class action lawsuits?
Ensure the lawyer has a successful track record of handling class action cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., consumer fraud, employment, defective products).
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee, and ask for a detailed explanation of what percentage they charge and how expenses will be handled.
  3. What are the chances of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of your case and the likelihood of certification as a class action.
  4. How long will the process take?
Class action lawsuits can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the case to last, from certification to settlement or trial.
  5. Will I need to appear in court?
Ask if your participation will be required in court or whether the lawyer will handle most aspects of the case on behalf of the class.
  6. What is the expected settlement or recovery?
Ask about potential outcomes, including the expected settlement or damages, and how compensation will be distributed among class members.
  7. What happens if the case is lost?
Confirm that you won’t owe any legal fees or expenses if the case is unsuccessful.

How to Check the Credibility of a Class Action Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable class action lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for class action experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in class action cases and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in class action lawsuits.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have been involved in class action cases.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Association for Justice (AAJ) or specific class action sections can indicate the lawyer’s expertise in handling large-scale litigation.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a class action lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Details of the harm you’ve experienced: Provide a clear explanation of the harm or damages you’ve suffered, whether it’s a defective product, financial loss, or harm due to employment violations.
  • Evidence of the issue: Bring any documents, emails, receipts, contracts, or photos that support your claim. If others have experienced the same harm, gather their testimonies or contact information if possible.
  • Information about the responsible party: If you know which company, organization, or government entity is responsible, bring any information you have about them, including names, addresses, or prior legal actions.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about the class action process, your potential role in the lawsuit, and what you can expect in terms of outcomes and timelines.
  • Contact information for other potential class members (if available): If you know others who have been similarly affected, provide their contact information so the lawyer can assess whether they may join the class action.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer evaluate your case effectively and provide the best legal guidance for pursuing a class action lawsuit.
