I applied for the Human Resources Assistant position with Stinson, LLP in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in August 2024. I was called the next day after applying via their online job application on their website. My initial telephone interview was with Chelsea L. Clennan, Director of Human Resources for Stinson, LLP, who's located in their Wichita, Kansas office. Chelsea was immediately complimenting me, telling me that any employer would be lucky to have me, that my skillsets are perfect for the role, that they would move quick for me in the recruitment process, they would make same-day job offers if needed-- immediately raising red flags for me that she was not a genuine person. She immediately moved me on to the second and final stage of the hiring process: the final interview with the hiring manager, the HR manager of the Minneapolis office-- both of whom reported to Chelsea. My suspicions of Chelsea would prove correct when, all the sudden, after letting her know after my final interview on Friday afternoon that I did have another offer, which I'd received the day prior, Chelsea responded to my email quickly, letting me know her and her hiring team would meet on Monday. In her email to me, which I've attached, she even told me her team considered me a top candidate. Monday came and went-- nothing, crickets. Tuesday, I received the attached screen shot email, letting me know they'd meet later that day. I replied, thanked her for keeping me in the loop, even further expressing my gratitude for keeping in touch with me and making me feel respected and valued. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday -- absolute radio silence from Chelsea L. Clennan. I sent a polite follow up email Friday afternoon-- again, I had been ghosted. Not a single reply or word from Chelsea or her team ever since -- despite her shtick of "you're a top candidate" and "we move quickly." I shudder to think how Stinson, LLP employees -- whether in Minneapolis or Kansas -- are treated if Chelsea treated a job applicant -- me -- with what I felt like was pure garbage and disrespect. Personally, I do not recommend Stinson as a place to work based on my experience as a job candidate and how I feel I was treated. When people like the human resources director show you their true colors-- believe them.

I walked in alone to a hearing riddled with anxiety and uncertainty, with no legal representation. Not knowing what was going to be my outcome, especially over a situation that should not have even been brought to a level where court would have been involved, I requested a court appointed attorney. I have never lucked out so much in my entire life than I did that day. Stinson Law firm just so happened to be providing pro bono work that morning and took my case. The two attorneys I worked with not only helped me feel validated in my disbelief that I was even there, but also were the most knowledgeable powerhouse of representation I could have ever asked for. If I were to sum it all up in 3 reasons why I would recommend them to anyone, it would be: Top notch negotiation skills, an unmatched knowledge of the law surrounding my scenario, and for being the most personable, down to earth people, to have the pleasure of working with.

Lori Peterson is an amazing attorney to have in your corner. She will get the job done for you. Lori fought hard for me and stood by my side through the ups and downs of both my case and my emotions. She truly cared about me and the outcome of my case. Lori will fight for justice. She is compassionate, determined, passionate, and strong. Thank you, Lori, for everything you have done for me, for helping me move into a new chapter of my life, and for giving me the closure I needed. Thank you.

Lori is hands down the best lawyer!!! When they say taking on a certain entity is a hard fight, that didn’t stop her for taking on our case. Lori is SO passionate, caring and empathetic for her clients, which is SO rare to find!!!! Lori puts in many hours and is so dedicated to her clients. We were so blessed to be able to have her represent us when we were in our darkest, most stressful days of our lives! I looked for a lawyer who cared about women's rights and I was so thankful to have been referred to her! (Lori is also an animal rights activist-she is saving animals and also fighting for human rights!!) Lori was always quick to respond and you can tell in her heart she genuinely cares about her clients. Lori represented our daughter, who dealt with a very traumatic event of her life and ours! Sexual discrimination/harassment and assault should never go on and it is 2024 and girls are still fighting for basic human rights! Lori is a powerful, majestic force and there is no one else like her!! She will always be our hero!! We are also so thankful to Lori, for suggesting martial arts to empower our daughter, because of Lori’s idea we got inspired to set up a self defense class to help empower our daughter and other kids. If you are looking for a lawyer who is compassionate, strategic, powerful, dynamic, is a fighter and has your best interest in heart .. you would be so lucky, honored and grateful to have her on your side!!! Thank you so much Lori for being there for us, for our daughter and for making an everlasting imprint and impact on our lives, we can’t thank you enough!!! You will always be our hero!!! We love Lori!!

Lori Peterson isn’t just the law dog, she is the Top Dog. Her compassion and dedication to her clients is immeasurable. She really takes the time to hear you and works tirelessly to fight for your rights and compensation. I could not recommend anyone more. When I first contacted Lori, it was just with a few legal questions. Not knowing if what I was dealing with had any legal merit. Lori contacted me right away, listened, and gave me great advice with nothing in return. When things escalated, she was my first call. Lori handled my case fiercely and I couldn’t be more grateful!

Would be 1 star but I’ve atleast been contacted after reaching out trying to figure out what is going on with my case which is absolutely nothing. Process started back in June. I reached out to see if it was possible to reopen my case from 4 years prior because I still have major lasting effects from my shoulder surgery. (Had a different attorney) Spoke with Daniel and he stated we could probably settle out the medical as I have out of pocket costs at minimum of biweekly chiropractic care just so I can function. After this I went through the process of getting my entire file from my previous attorney and hand delivered it to his office. After 2 months of not hearing anything I decided to reach out. First by email. No response. A couple weeks later by phone and I left a voicemail. Again never heard back. A week or so later I called again. This time leaving a message with a lady who answered. After this I got a call from Daniel about a week later. During this phone call he again stated that he thinks we could settle out the medical. He stated he was going to talk with his partner and figure out a game plan on how to proceed and that he would be in contact with me again in a week. I never heard back. Fast forward a month and a half I decided to reach out again. First by email. Again, no response. I let another week or so pass and decided to call. This time I was transferred directly to Daniel. During this call everything changed. Now it was he didn’t think they could settle the medical and he stated he’d give a call back within the week. This never happened. Now 2-3 weeks later here I am posting this review. This was never with intentions of a money grab. 100% I have major issues since having my shoulder surgery. I make more money however I have a $5000 deductible so I choose not to go to the doctor because I really can’t afford that. So instead I go to the chiropractor just so I can get by. Costs me only around $150 every month. I write this review not in spite nor in anger, but more so in annoyance because I feel as if Daniel made it seem like something could be done and just constantly left me wondering what was happening. So really just wasted a ton of my time just to be given false hope. Daniel should have from the beginning just told me that there was nothing that could be done. Had he done that I would have just let it be.

Not a single reply or word from Chelsea or her team ever since -- despite her shtick of "you're a top candidate" and "we move quickly." A rare, unfortunate medical injury incident happened to me and I felt very alone, disappointed, and frustrated after calling many different law offices in my state and being turned away. I turned to a Facebook group to air my grievance & seek comfort in a support group. Someone responded with an ad they had seen where OFT Law was seeking anyone who had been affected by my issue. Bart responded to my email immediately and was comforting, helpful and very professional. Everything about this firm’s representation was flawless. Everyone I interacted with were perfect communicators who made sure my husband and I understood every step of the process. I highly recommend trusting these amazing folks with legal counsel. The outcome of our situation greatly exceeded our expectations. Thank you all so much!

Rachhana was my initial and only contact during a very long legal process. She flew to another state where I was living just for a few hours in order to meet me and gather facts. She could have managed the initial interview over the phone but went the extra mile (well hundreds of miles) to make it more personal. She had to make several long trips/flights in order to gather information and complete this case. This is an attorney who is passionate about the causes/cases she fights for. Although, she was very busy she would return my calls (within reason-a day or two but I never once wondered if I or the case had been forgotten or if she would call me back), she answered all my questions and explained every development step by step. Rachhana was professional and honest. Her knowledge about multiple state and federal laws, the legal system and case process was amazing. While I am sure she had other cases to work on it never seemed as though she stopped working on my case. I truly cannot say enough about her as an attorney (exceeds all intelligence standards) or as a person (just an overall wonderful person). I have had other legal questions and while I wouldn't expect her to take time out of her busy schedule to answer just any random question, she did. I would recommend Rachhana Srey as the number one attorney to call in her area of expertise.

Based on my personal experience with Rachhana Srey at Nichols Kaster, I would unequivocally & without reservation recommend enlisting her and her firm in legal representation for all matters regarding employee rights as afforded under FLSA. Prior to contacting any law firm, I had done my own extensive research in FLSA to fully understand the extent in which my former employer had violated the law with regard to exempt & nonexempt classification. Once I was certain I had done my homework, had a thorough understanding of the law, & gathered up the requisite documentation to support a claim, I began to search for representation. I made numerous phone calls & had several meetings with law firms claiming to have extensive knowledge & experience in the area of employee rights, only to discover these so-called experts really didn’t understand nor interpret the law the way it was written. That is, however, until I spoke with Rachhana. Rachhana interviewed me over the phone & right away I felt she had a knowledge & understanding of FLSA that expanded on the research I had done & my own understanding of the law & my rights under the law. Immediately after our conversation, Rachhana set up a face to face meeting to discuss in length the potential case and its various outcomes. During the entire process of representing me & my fellow co-workers, she & her staff worked diligently to reach an out-of-court settlement with my former employer that was both fair & equitable to all parties. She is an excellent negotiator with a thorough understanding of the law that I would not only recommend, but also use again in the future if warranted.

They took our money and saved us none in our efforts to get help managing our debt. They failed to complete agreements with creditors, failed to make payments… you can negotiate more effectively on your own without legal representation! I highly recommend you do NOT work with Northstar. Considering how much we payed them, we were more in debt because we payed them and did not make payments on our debt. Northstar is a SCAM. What a regret that we ever signed anything with them. Save yourself the grief and find any other way to handle your financial problems.

Always taking "vacations" with your money. Stalls, does a lot of "busy work" and slick talking to make sure it looks like he's doing something. Commits perjury overall good lawyer if you are a deadbeat trying to make it look like you are not. So really 3 stars. but 1 star for honest parents.

Hello I'm a single father and the twin cities. My son's mother has made it very difficult for me to be in my son's life. I speak from experience. Travis is a true gladiator! When representing his clients he spares no expense when fighting for you to be in your child's life. It is an honor to recommend him at the highest levels of expectation. Fortunately for me I have Travis on my side who has years of practice in the justice system, and has the experience and not just family law, business law, and criminal defense law with a appellate court practice. Literally at One stop shop. He takes the time to explain best possible outcomes, as well as the realities of least possible outcomes. In addition to this his retainer and hourly rate are very reasonable. I strongly recommend his services and legal support to anyone in my network in need of the best representation in the legal market. Thank you for reading!

I was referred to this group for a special needs trust. They basically charged me over $450.00, didn't listen, made assumptions, and finally said they were "too expensive" but have to bill me for the first hour. Needless to say, I ended the engagement. I would not recommend this law firm to anyone unless you're interested in wasting money on expensive, inexperienced lawyers that don't take their time to review your request but still charge their high rate.

What a Class Action Lawyer Can Do for You

A class action lawyer specializes in representing groups of individuals who have suffered similar harm or injury due to the actions of a company, organization, or government entity. These lawyers file lawsuits on behalf of a large group (the "class") of individuals, seeking compensation or relief for damages caused by things like defective products, environmental harm, consumer fraud, or employment violations. Class action lawyers are skilled in managing complex legal processes that involve numerous plaintiffs and large-scale legal claims.

If you’ve been harmed by a product, service, or corporate action that also affected many others, a class action lawyer can help you join or initiate a collective lawsuit to seek justice and compensation.

When Should I Hire a Class Action Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a class action lawyer if you and a group of people have experienced harm or damages under similar circumstances. Common scenarios include:

  • Defective products: If a product you purchased caused injury, illness, or other harm due to a defect, a class action lawyer can help you join a lawsuit against the manufacturer or retailer.
  • Consumer fraud: If a company has misled consumers through false advertising, deceptive business practices, or scams, a class action lawsuit can be filed to seek compensation on behalf of all affected customers.
  • Employment violations: If your employer has violated labor laws - such as failing to pay overtime, denying benefits, or enforcing discriminatory policies - a class action lawyer can represent a group of employees seeking justice.
  • Data breaches: If a company’s negligence led to a data breach that compromised your personal information, you may be able to join a class action lawsuit seeking compensation for the breach.
  • Environmental damage: If you or your community has been harmed by environmental hazards, such as pollution or toxic waste, a class action lawyer can file a collective lawsuit against the responsible party.
  • Unfair financial practices: If a bank, lender, or credit card company engaged in fraudulent or illegal financial practices, a class action lawyer can help a group of consumers recover losses.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process helps ensure that you meet legal deadlines and that your case is properly prepared for a potential class action lawsuit.

What Does a Class Action Lawyer Do?

A class action lawyer provides a range of legal services to represent large groups of individuals in lawsuits. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Investigating the claim: The lawyer investigates the facts of the case, including gathering evidence of harm, identifying potential plaintiffs, and determining whether a class action lawsuit is the best course of action.
  • Filing the lawsuit: The lawyer files the class action lawsuit on behalf of the named plaintiffs (the representative plaintiffs) and others who have experienced similar harm.
  • Class certification: One of the first steps in a class action is getting the court to certify the case as a class action. The lawyer will argue that the case meets the legal requirements for certification, such as the number of plaintiffs and commonality of harm.
  • Communicating with plaintiffs: Class action lawyers keep plaintiffs informed throughout the process, including notifying potential class members about the lawsuit and giving them the opportunity to join the case.
  • Negotiating settlements: Many class action lawsuits are resolved through settlements before going to trial. The lawyer will negotiate with the defendant to reach a settlement that compensates the class for their losses.
  • Representing the class in court: If the case goes to trial, the lawyer will represent the entire class, presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and arguing for the plaintiffs.
  • Managing claims distribution: Once a settlement or verdict is reached, the lawyer helps manage the process of distributing compensation to class members, ensuring that all eligible plaintiffs receive their share of the award.

How Are Class Action Lawyers Paid?

Class action lawyers are typically paid on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if the class action lawsuit is successful. Here’s how their payment structure generally works:

  • Contingency fee: Class action lawyers usually take a percentage of the settlement or judgment as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 25% to 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the amount of work involved.
  • No upfront fees: You generally won’t have to pay any fees upfront. The lawyer covers the costs of the lawsuit, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs, and is reimbursed from the settlement or award.
  • Court approval of fees: In class action cases, the court must approve the lawyer’s fee to ensure that it is reasonable. This helps protect class members from paying excessive legal fees.

Always discuss fee arrangements with your lawyer at the outset to understand how much they will be paid if the lawsuit is successful.

How Much Does a Class Action Lawyer Cost?

Class action lawyers generally work on contingency, meaning they don’t get paid unless the lawsuit is successful. Here’s a breakdown of potential costs:

  • Contingency fee: Class action lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the settlement or judgment. For example, if the lawsuit settles for $10 million and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, the lawyer would receive $3 million, and the remaining $7 million would be distributed to the class members.
  • Court costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer will deduct the costs associated with the lawsuit, such as court filing fees, expert witness fees, and investigation costs. These costs are usually reimbursed from the settlement or award.
  • No cost if the case is lost: If the class action lawsuit is unsuccessful, you typically won’t owe any legal fees or costs. The lawyer assumes the financial risk of the case.

It’s important to discuss potential costs and fee structures with your lawyer before the case proceeds to ensure transparency and avoid any surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Class Action Lawyer

Before hiring a class action lawyer, you should ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with class action lawsuits?
Ensure the lawyer has a successful track record of handling class action cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., consumer fraud, employment, defective products).
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Confirm that the lawyer charges a contingency fee, and ask for a detailed explanation of what percentage they charge and how expenses will be handled.
  3. What are the chances of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of your case and the likelihood of certification as a class action.
  4. How long will the process take?
Class action lawsuits can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the case to last, from certification to settlement or trial.
  5. Will I need to appear in court?
Ask if your participation will be required in court or whether the lawyer will handle most aspects of the case on behalf of the class.
  6. What is the expected settlement or recovery?
Ask about potential outcomes, including the expected settlement or damages, and how compensation will be distributed among class members.
  7. What happens if the case is lost?
Confirm that you won’t owe any legal fees or expenses if the case is unsuccessful.

How to Check the Credibility of a Class Action Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable class action lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for class action experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in class action cases and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in class action lawsuits.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have been involved in class action cases.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Association for Justice (AAJ) or specific class action sections can indicate the lawyer’s expertise in handling large-scale litigation.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a class action lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Details of the harm you’ve experienced: Provide a clear explanation of the harm or damages you’ve suffered, whether it’s a defective product, financial loss, or harm due to employment violations.
  • Evidence of the issue: Bring any documents, emails, receipts, contracts, or photos that support your claim. If others have experienced the same harm, gather their testimonies or contact information if possible.
  • Information about the responsible party: If you know which company, organization, or government entity is responsible, bring any information you have about them, including names, addresses, or prior legal actions.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about the class action process, your potential role in the lawsuit, and what you can expect in terms of outcomes and timelines.
  • Contact information for other potential class members (if available): If you know others who have been similarly affected, provide their contact information so the lawyer can assess whether they may join the class action.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer evaluate your case effectively and provide the best legal guidance for pursuing a class action lawsuit.
