One of the things I like about Mark is his ability to provide sound and practical insights about legal issues. He is extremely resourceful and knowledgeable. His duty of care to clients goes beyond the formal requirements- but he shows empathy and understanding of client’s needs. Lastly, Mark is simply a kind human being.

It’s stressful enough working through my pain but to find lawyer after lawyer uninterested in my case is extremely disappointing. As many I have reached out to before, this was no different. Michael & his team are curt, not interested when contacted. Maybe it’s me but with the injury I’m dealing with I have enough on my plate. I don’t want to be begging someone to return my calls…enough of a headache. Don’t recommend. I will continue to look elsewhere.

After my injury that happened back in late 2019 I was searching for a lawyer that I can put confidence into knowing they will do their best to resolve my case and bring it to a closure. After reading some reviews online I thought that I would have a good experience with David Zelman. But after what happened in my time dealing with David Zelman I was completely mistaken. He does whats only best for himself and not the client. He will NOT go to court to fight for you, he admits he doesn’t physically look good and will hire another law firm if necessary to show up. No paralegal is willing to work with him, they all leave him. He is a one man show with NO help. He’s unbelievably rude. He will give you the legal runaround, which equals to not being honest. I am spreading awareness to those who want an honest law firm to LOOK ELSEWHERE. David Zelman will cost you your time and money and most importantly your health will get worse dealing with David Zelman. David Zelman should be disbarred.

Title: Unprofessional and Disrespectful Experience with Law Office of David Zelman I recently had the misfortune of contacting the Law Office of David Zelman to inquire about their services, specifically regarding suing the NYPD. Unfortunately, my experience was utterly disappointing and aligns with the numerous negative reviews I've seen online. When I called, I was met with blatant disrespect and unprofessionalism. I simply asked who I was speaking to, and the person on the phone refused to identify themselves. To make matters worse, they hung up on me. I called back, hoping for a more civil conversation, but was met with the same evasive behavior. Only when I mentioned the negative reviews did the person pause and briefly listen. This kind of attitude is unacceptable, especially from a law office. It's alarming to think that someone with such a demeanor would be negotiating on behalf of clients. The lack of transparency, accountability, and basic respect raises serious concerns about their ability to effectively represent clients and secure favorable settlements. In my opinion, it's best to avoid the Law Office of David Zelman and explore alternative options. Their unprofessional behavior is a clear indication of how they conduct business, and it's not worth risking your case or well-being. Shame on them for prioritizing arrogance over client satisfaction and effective representation.

Do not use this agency because they do not help you whether you're disabled or not, because it will give you a lot of excuses and run arounds, and they don't fight hard enough for your situation especially Lauren price the attorney who did nothing to help with my eviction, and she sided with the agency that's called WELLLIFE NETWORK who is abusive to disabled people by throwing them out without any guidance and no help. Attacked took place June 8 2015 in Centre Street court house and attacked August 2015 in Riker's Island by correction officers and he was hospitalized after the attack of August 2015. Leventhal was hired in September 2015 to file the claim for the severe attack on August 2015 which he did not file the claim for that attack either. He sent a letter on October of 2016 saying he could not represent. We was never notified of this shocking unprofessional decision. He took a year to tell us this in writing but we were communicating with him all the time. Never said a word. Even brought documents to his office.

Having dealt with Jason on an appeal, I can say he wins based on the better argument. Intelligence goes further than shine, and his ability to write what has won the case I needed him to win made him the best appellate lawyer I've ever had to deal with - he knows how to argue, write, and make the arguments get the final results, and that's all that matters when folks' lives are on the line.

For your sake, please do not WASTE $3,000 + of your hard earned dollars. I think the hallmark of a very strong attorney is absolute competency and integrity. I feel that Jason Eldridge has neither. I had the absolute misfortune of being represented by Jason within the past year and found him to not only be incompetent, but dishonest. It wasn't until I was represented by a superior law firm and READ the court transcripts that I learned how truly bad he is.. 1) For multiple hearings (at least two) he NEVER filed a motion! The first time, he expressed surprise when the City attorney stated that they never received it. The second time, when it became clear to the judge and the city attorney that he wasn't doing his job, he promised that he would do it by the next hearing (he never did) and yet he was trying to milk me for another $4k in attorney fees. 2) In a hearing where I was supposed to be present, but was unable to attend, due to a medical injury, I emailed and sent him docs from the doctors and he assured me that i would be ok because he would present them to the judge and it would be in my file. The day before, and the day of the court hearing, I emailed AND CALLED to insure his receipt, but he never contacted me back. I later learned, shortly thereafter, that the court issued a bench warrant due to my absence. When I asked him how could that be the case when you assured me all was fine since i had the medical docs proving my injury, I was told "the judge didn't believe me." HOWEVER, after reading the transcripts recently of that court hearing, I learned that he NEVER SHOWED UP TO THE HEARING! This resulted in a bench warrant which was later vacated after I secured a very competent attorney. When my new attorney read the transcripts, and saw the history of the file, he said if my attorney had done what he was supposed to do and file the motions and attend the hearing he missed, my case would have been dismissed. If you want a responsive attorney who will do their job well and be honest with you, you will be wise to choose another attorney. I did. My only regret is that I am $3,000 poorer.

I was wrongfully arrested for a DWI a few years ago. I was advised to go through the phone book and find a lawyer that I trusted. The officers not only berated and accused me on the street, but neither of them were trained in field sobriety so i was detained without proof. When I was released, I called several numbers before stumbling upon a law office that referred me to Mr. Rodriguez. From the moment I spoke to him, he heard me out. I told him the situation, he listened intently and didn't give me any advice until he knew the whole situation. He was able to attain copies of my coordination test and used these in court to prove my innocence. I am thankful every day for Mr. Rodriguez's courtesy and professionalism. I referred every friend and family member with a legal issue to him. He is spectacular!

I retained Raymond Rodriguez for my criminal case. Since the beginning he was useless. He never believed in me as his client. It felt like he was prosecuting me rather than defending me. He never respected my education, profession and my background. He did not try hard to obtain acquittal for me while my case is easy. His lack of professionalism pushed him to threaten me to be deported (While I am a US citizen born in the US). He also accused me of being mentally ill. All this misconduct was while I was his client. Lawyer usually work hard not to have their client deported. Lawyers also defend medically disable clients. I do not wish for any client to use this lawyer as his defense attorney in any criminal court.

I hired Mr. Rodriguez as my criminal defense attorney after getting screwed by my previous attorney. I looked around quite a bit. Mr. Rodriguez spoke to me for hours about my case before I'd given him a dime. He's quite knowledgable, extremely patient and is not a clockwatcher. Also, he got the charges dropped, which was the most important thing. Very trustworthy and down to earth. He looks young, but don't be fooled.

She lied to me during every step of the process, she had no time to devote to my case, and in the end, she took my money and dropped my case. If you’re looking for a lawyer, my best advice is to look elsewhere. Robert Lerner is flat out incompetent and incredibly rude. A 0 star rating would have been most fitting of his unprofessional and disrespectful conduct. Not only does he scream at his clients demanding they stop talking, he consistently fails to meet deadlines for both court dates and personal requests for documents. If you are Chinese, I highly recommend you don’t come to this business. He consistently belittles chinese people and their inability to speak english, despite working in a chinese community and not being able to speak a word of chinese himself. 我是中国人,如果你也是,我请你找另一位律师。 他不尊重中国客户,并抱怨客户说得英语不好。 虽然他在一个华人社区工作,但是他连一句中文不会说。附近有很多其他律师,我一定不会再来他的办公室。

I visited Mr. Morisset in his office on February 13, 2015, for a free in-person consultation to discuss my case. After meeting with him and reflecting on his qualifications and proposed legal strategy, I decided to hire him to represent me. On February 18th, 2015, I mailed him the retainer and emailed him the signed agreement and my court appearance ticket so that he knew where and when to appear. My court date was scheduled for March 16, 2015, and I on March 13, 2015, spoke to him and confirmed that he would be in court. On the morning of my court date, I arrived at 8:45AM (appearance time was 9AM) and sent him a text and phone call letting him know once again where to meet me. By 9:10AM, I received neither a phone call nor a text response so I after speaking with the court marshall proceeded into court and argued my own case. I called him after leaving court and received no answer so I left court to get to work. That evening, I sent him an email that he was terminated and asked him to please return my retainer. His response to my request was that he had worked on my case (as shown above, he never arrived in court for the appearance time) and that he would only return $1,150 of my $1,500 retainer. I immediately filed a small claims case against him and his business. After several small court appearances (NYC courts are very backlogged), I received a settlement against him in February of 2016. I called and texted Mr. Morisset over a 6-month period to request payment but received no response. I consulted the NYC Marshal and they informed me that they could easily take on my case and were perplexed as well about why an attorney wouldn't pay a judgment (illegal and unethical). After 6 months, I filed a levy with the NYC Marshal and they levied his bank account for the funds. Mr. Morisset is an unreliable attorney for, 1) Failing to appear in court 2) Refusing to returning my retainer when he did no work 3) Refusing to pay me even after a judgment had been issued If you'd like more backup, I'm happy to provide more documentation on my claim as I have emails, texts, and court documents proving his unethical actions.

I had the misfortune to meet Mr. Soss as my 18B lawyer. In 2005 or 2007 the event was so traumatic I can hardly remember the year. This was my first time being arrested and jailed. While in cell counselor Soss asks what happened, I proceed to tell, he is visibly upset because I say I am poor and washing out by hand my son's school uniform shirt. He interrupted, and never got to hear that I didn't call the fire dept., that I went down stairs to tell fire dept. they weren't needed, that while standing in my lobby I couldn't even get the fire dept, attention, that NYPD shows up on the scene, that I say what are you guys doing here, they say they must be here, I say o.k. and ride up in elevator with them, I hold apt door open for all to enter, fire dept. goes in, I'm still holding the door open for PD to enter (while standing inside my apt) , that they don't enter, that I eventually(this is a while) start to close the apt door to join FD in the kitchen, that before my hand can release the knob, PD kicks the apt door in my face causing me to fall back bump my head and fall unconscious to the floor, that when I regain consciousness I come up swinging but catch myself to make a graze sound on the jacket of the female police officer, that now when I learn I am being arrested for non compliance I fall to the floor with my hands under me so I wont be misunderstood as being threatening so I wont be beat to death (t.v.), that when the police supervisor arrives I tell him they kick the door in my face, his reply of "sure" adds insult to injury, that while the FD were in my kitchen they took a knife and heated it and burned grooves in the refrigerator and microwave ( I learned this later after returning home) which is why I got the feeling I should go to the kitchen, that the male police officer took a note taped to the back of the apartment door addressed to the burglers, saying "stop braking in and eating our food from the kitchen, we barely have enough food for ourselves" and put it on the wall next to the door and called ACS on me. And that the FD lied and said I was arguing with the police, which never happened. And finally counselor Soss had the nerve to ask my mother when picking me up from jail to drive him home which we did. had he actually listened to my story he and I would have been compensated by a lawsuit against the NYPD. but he didn't so I was falsely arrested spent time in jail went to the bathroom in front of other people, my 11 yr old was ripped from his bed and taken to my mothers home. and I was told that nypd apologized by not showing up to the court date and going on vacation.

In the many times we called his office and Mr. Husbands' was not available, his receptionist NEVER offered to contact the attorney by cellphone. So, most of our calls went unreturned. In the instances when we did speak to Mr. Husbands, we experienced listening to an attorney who was not forthconing with details, was easily irritated by questions and became argumentative when told he was speaking in a loud antagonizing tone. In short, he is unprofessional and belligerent. Needless to say, the case was settled in our favor with the tenant needing to leave by 5/31 or face a Marshall's eviction. It is now two weeks later and the tenant has not moved nor been evicted. That's because today we learned the marshall's office never received the attorney's paperwork to serve notice to the tenant. Total imcompetence. Do not use this attorney, avoid the headache.

Laura Guthrie represented my husband in 2011 on a robbery charge. She waived my husband's rights to go to the grand jury after being told repeatedly that he wanted to go. A black man was identified as the mugger, however, my husband, a white male is sitting in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Laura Guthrie got him railroaded and violated his rights.

In February 2010 I hired Mr. Kent for an urgent work - 3 hours of his work plus $210 for filing an index for my new case in court. He said he worked "more than 3 hours, but will charge me only for 3 hours anyway". He said he'll mail me the results of his work. He also said he did file my case in court that day. He emailed me the calculations: 3 hours at $175, plus $210 for court index, $735 total. I gave him a check for $735 and started waiting. The check was cashed, and the mail never came. Almost a year after I email him asking about the status of our case. He said we "didn't have a case", that I only hired him "to write a complaint". I forwarded him all the email and a picture of the cashed check. He said he did not "remember" cashing it, even though sent him my bank statement twice already.

i hired Reba for a few of my cases which were mostly white collar crime. his fees were fairly priced but his work was sloppy at one point i had a problem with the d.a office due to Robert Ryba's lack of knowledge he made me sign a statement that was issues by d.a. office which ended up incriminating my self. Ryba never fights the battle he always settles with what the city/state has to offer. he shows up to court always late and unprepared. how does a lawyer sit down with his clint and asks him what are we going to argue in court and how are we going to explain the situation and one last note even after i paid him thousands of dollars he would still charge me for consultation every time i went to his office to the discuess my pending cases i worked with Ryba in 2009 until today I'm still cleaning up the mistakes he coused me

1st arrest. I was charged with DWAI, common law DWI, and reckless driving. Despite being stopped at a checkpoint and having a BAC of .07%, which suggests that both the reckless and DWI would likely be dismissed if I took it to trial, Ms. Narumanchi ineptly tried to convince me to accept a plea to the DWAI - the only thing left to actually fight! Furthermore, she scheduled my court date 2 months after my first hearing: even the judge questioned why so late on record. Either she is too busy or too lazy but taking on cases and then abandoning her clients is her method. I sent her 2 emails within 23 days of no communication. I suppose keeping me informed seemed to be such an outrageous request that she dropped me as a client. Lesson learned: Free legal aid means no legal aid. You get what you pay for.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
