I am very impressed with Mr. Slepian's work ethic. I consulted him with a question about possible actions to take, and he took the time to thoroughly understand the background of my immigration process. He was the first lawyer to do this, and as a non-native speaker, I really appreciated that he spoke slowly and clearly. He also didn’t try to push his services on me. Instead, he made me feel very relieved. If I ever need an immigration lawyer, he will be my first choice.

My husband and I had a very positive experience with Andrew Slepian, who assisted us in adjusting my husband's immigration status from visa to green card. Andrew made the process smooth and easy to understand. He answered all of our questions thoroughly and clearly outlined exactly the steps we needed to take. We look forward to continuing to work with Andrew on the next steps in our journey, as my husband works toward obtaining his U.S. citizenship.

My journey to U.S. citizenship, facilitated by Andrew Slepian Law, was remarkably smooth and successful. His knowledge of immigration law and commitment to personalized client service made a potentially overwhelming process feel manageable. A special thank you to Andrew, His dedication and empathy shone through in every interaction, making a significant impact on my experience. Andrew expertise not only helped navigate the complexities of my applications but also provided a reassuring presence throughout. The firm's professionalism, clear communication, and proactive approach were instrumental in the successful outcome to citizenship applications. Meetings and emails were scheduled as needed, very lenient with payments and ensuring I was well-informed and prepared at every step. Andrew not only acted as advisors but as advocates, genuinely invested in my success. I can recommend Slepian Immigration Law highly enough for anyone navigating the immigration process there exceptional service and the personal dedication provided invaluable peace of mind and results... thank you Andrew for all the help.. I have been with Sawer & Sackel for 3 separate workers comp claims and have been very unsatisfied until recently. Up until Holly took ownership in my cases I was left wondering what was going on. I was the one that had to initiate any and all inquiries into correspondences from the insurance carrier. And I rarely spoke with a lawyer and it was Never the same individual. Since working with Holly things have change my thinking entirely. She has taken ownership in my case and has gone above and beyond my expectations (or at least what my expectations of a law firm should be) and have reaffirmed my choice in a workers compensation law firm. Holly will initiate and follow up on all inquiries and respond in a timely manner. I have enjoyed working with her and look forward to a positive outcome in my pending cases.

I’ve been with Sawers & Sackel for a few months. From day one, they have been professional and answered all of my questions. Going through this process has been difficult. During a phone call, Holly was so supportive. A few days later, I received a letter from Holly, with handwritten encouragement from her! It brought me to tears. I’ve never heard of a law firm that cares this much, to not only work diligently on my behalf but to take an interest in me personally. Bill and Julie have also been so supportive to me I would recommend Sawers & Sackel to anyone!!

I can’t say Thank You enough to this law firm and Eric Winnert! We live approximately 5 hours from the office and Eric came to our home to get the much needed paperwork signed by my very ill spouse for a mesothelioma law suit. Poor man had to drive through the snow belt in February just to make sure we got what was needed before anything happened. Whenever I have questions and need to contact him, he is always there to give me answers. He has walked me step by step through every part of the process as my spouse was terminal and passed. Even when I haven’t bothered him in awhile, he will shoot me a text with any needed updates on our case! He’s very caring, empathetic , and personable with his clients and their family! No matter what we threw at him he always had a smile and a chuckle while maintaining his professionalism! Great Job Eric and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done and continue to do for me.

I became a client of Hurwitz Whitcher & Malloy in November of 2020 due to injuries I sustained transporting equipment to Work from Home during the pandemic on April 7, 2020. I already have a disability, born missing my left limb & no joint in my right thumb. After trying to fight compensation on my own, they consistently denied every procedure that was being requested to get me back to work, my doctor’s office suggested that I get a lawyer. I was referred Hurwitz Whitcher & Malloy by a friend. My first contact was Patricia Hagerty, my anxiety was so high that I couldn’t even complete a sentence. I felt crazy, scared & embarrassed. She took my information & said someone would get back to me. She also, assured me that everything would be ok, try to relax & not think about his. Karen Small handled my case & she kept me up to date on the process step by step. If there was something I did not understand, she would explain until I did. After hard work & dedication, delays, setbacks, we won July 2024. I had trouble getting my medications, so I spoke with Sam Firestein concerning this matter. Within an hour, the issues were resolved & he followed the next week up to make sure I received the medication as scheduled & that everything was ok. Kate Malloy handled Social Security on my behalf, job well-done. From my first encounter with your firm until today, I felt like the team cared. I am entirely satisfied with the way this firm has treated me, they showed compassion, cares, concerns & handled every aspect of my case in a personal & professional manner. This whole process was confusing & at times I was very upset, sick in my mind & body, but this firm saved the day. Sometimes thank you doesn’t seem to be enough, but I truly thank you for all you have done for me. Thank you for assisting me through this plight over the past 4 years of my life & in the future. I was assured that I was with the best compensation attorneys & that is a true statement. I highly recommend this firm, if you are an injured worker, don’t try to fight them alone, don’t hesitate to contact Hurwitz, Whitcher & Malloy, they helped me every step of the way, & they’ll take care of you too. I am indeed a satisfied client; I feel like I’m a part of the family. Sondra L King

Months into working with Denis, I received an official court document in the mail that stated if I did not complete a court requirement (a simply online course) in SIX days, my case would be CLOSED. I was able to complete this requirement any time after 10/11, and it needed to be completed and submitted by 12/11. Denis did not notify me of this requirement one single time, and I even had a video meeting and exchanged emails with him on 10/11! The only reason I was able to complete the requirement online is because of the notice the court sent- NOT because Denis instructed me to. He was made aware of this, and has still not even acknowledged this or apologized. On top of almost costing me my entire case, I don’t know that the man answered a single one of my questions, would go missing for weeks at a time (the longest I did not hear back from him was 6 weeks), did not hand in MANY necessary documents to the courts on time, and still has not returned my voicemail from September, that I even reminded him about via email.

Mr. Kitchen has handled many legal issues for both my family and our not-for-profit ministry. He always handles himself with professionalism, excellence and kindness. I've never felt like he was in judgement of my choices, decisions or concerns and always treated me more as a friend than a client. His commitment to serving others is evidenced by the pro-bono work he has done for our ministry as well as others. It is an honor to have him as President of the Board of Directors because of his leadership qualities, his quiet confidence and his wise counsel. Both my wife, Cheryl and I recommend his legal advice across many issues.

Denis Kitchen truly helped me with a personal financial problem. He answered any questions I had and directed me thoroughly through the process! Also, our family had an emergency where my mom became sick fast and needed nursing home care ASAP. I called Denis Kitchen quite upset because we needed a power of attorney for my mom quickly! Denis Kitchen was very compassionate and met us at the hospital to get the paperwork completed! He often goes above and beyond the call of duty! I would highly recommend Denis Kitchen!

"Paragon of Justice and an Epitome of Truth." In the realm of law and justice, the role of a just attorney carries profound significance that transcends mere legal representation. A just attorney, bound by ethical principles and a commitment to fairness, stands as a pillar of integrity with the legal system. By upholding the principals of justice, such an attorney not only safeguards the rights of their clients but also maintains the delicate balance between truth and the pursuit of a just outcome. The defense attorney, in particular, assumes a crucial role as the shield between justice and truth. In a legal proceeding, it is the defense attorney's duty to rigorously challenge the prosecution's case, to scrutinize evidence, and to ensure that the rights of the accused are protected. By zealously advocating for their clients the defense attorney ensures that the truth is unearthed through a process that is thorough, fair, and just. Without this safeguard, the pursuit of truth and the delivery of justice would be compromised, undermining the very foundation of the legal system. Thus, the role of an attorney, especially the defense attorney, is indispensable in upholding the principals of fairness, integrity, and truth in the pursuit of justice. Ms. Emily Trott, Esq., was one of the very first attorney's this writer encountered that is defined as a resilient shield between truth and justice.

Received this legal firm information from my employers EAP program. Office staff was friendly and kind. Scheduled quickly for an appointment, office ended up closed presumably for snow, I was able to call and make another phone consultation for later in the same week. Mr. Friedman was knowledgeable and understanding of our situation. One area that we need assistance with he is not able to address himself however will have us set up with his colleague to discuss this matter. Thank you for your time and quick response.

For some reason I couldn’t reply on the review I wrote but I only asked for a price estimated range because I wanted to be prepared which is a common question anywhere you go not everyone is going to know how things like this work or if it’s worth something so you ask questions to make sure to be prepared. The lady continuously kept cutting me off as I spoke that’s rude no need to leave your number because I’m not calling back to this place another firm actually reached out and I was treated with respect and they answered my question with no problems about the price estimate and was very respectful and herd me out on my concerns. Take notes mabey you’ll learn how to be respectful to ones that come for help to your firm.

Nelson Torre is a lawyer who assisted me with a traffic ticket for running a STOP sign, which was connected to an accident. His fees were reasonable, and he was readily available to discuss my case. If he wasn't available, his associate would gather all the necessary details and provide assistance. Nelson responded to my emails promptly and kept his word throughout the process. Thanks to his efforts, my case was dismissed as he had promised. Here’s a bit more about my experience: When I first received the ticket, I was worried about the potential consequences, especially since an accident was involved. I reached out to Nelson, and he immediately put me at ease with his professional yet approachable demeanor. He carefully explained the steps we needed to take and reassured me that he would handle everything. True to his word, he stayed in constant communication, updating me on the progress and responding to any questions I had without delay. Even when he was busy, his associate was there to help, ensuring that no detail was overlooked. In the end, Nelson’s expertise and dedication resulted in the dismissal of my case, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his support.

My uncle passed away and I was his sole heir and executor. I had to take care of everything and it was so overwhelming. Peter McGrath was fantastic, he gave me so much help, answered every question I had (he was my uncle’s lawyer), and wouldn’t take a penny from me. I could never have fulfilled my executor’s duties without him. I can’t express how grateful I am. He’s a top notch attorney and a truly compassionate and wonderful human being.

Evictions can already be frustrating but running to a lawyer to help and not getting the help was even more frustrating. Tenant’s case was pending from the beginning to waiting on government assistance and that being said in the state of New York the process can’t move along as quickly as you would want. But as far as this attorney, it was not the best experience at all. Took so long with responses and even worse, never got any responses after awhile. Emailed, called and text but wouldn’t get any reply for days. One of the many examples was getting a reply about 2 weeks later that the hearing was adjourned and/or set for another date due to the tenant’s pending case with ERAP. With that same text he wanted an update but then sent an email and never heard back from him. Not sure what I did or my case wasn’t big enough to accept and cash in but good luck to anyone who is willing to choose this firm to work with.

Please exercise caution around Kelly Ball. This attorney, who lacks general decency, employs racial and cultural biases to misrepresent facts and win arguments. She significantly assisted my ex in completely alienating my child from me. I cannot comprehend how she manages to live with herself - she'd rather destroy a parent child relationship then admit she is wrong.

I have contacted Jason DiPasquale about two different issues of family law over the past year. Jason actively listened to the issue and my questions, was extremely knowledgeable about the relevant points of law, and explained complex legal proceedings and procedures in crystal clear language and from an objective point of view explaining important aspects of the proceedings from both sides. After speaking with Jason, I felt very clear and informed about the process and what to expect. He answered my questions very thoroughly and allayed my concerns. I give him my highest recommendation.

Dean took my CPS case that was crooked and lied from the start. Despite the on going surprises in court and the lies of my social worker under oath in court, he even said my case is the type that keeps him up all night long cause of the corruption and illegal actions of those who I was told to trust. He not only got my son returned home to me but also had legal action against the "social worker" who did everything in her power to prevent my sons return. My son and I will forever be scared but what happened but at least we are together again forever. I will always have Dean to thank for everything he did for us. He not only did his job but went above and beyond to turn my nightmare into a light at the end of the darkness. Even as I cried and cried he listened with compassion at a time when I had no one else to turn to. I referred him to my father and Dean represented him in his divorce and I still refer Dean to anyone who needs someone who will fight for them and get justice in the end. I will always be thankful for everything Dean is as a person and especially as he is as an attorney!!!

Mr Puleo has handled several cases for me, and each time I am more then happy. He handles traffic tickets swiftly and works out the best deals. For more serious criminal matters it seems like he always has a trick up his sleeve, he knows how to communicate with the courts very well and has always fought for me and voiced my side of the story, and he doesn't take no for an answer and has no problem battling in the court room for you. On a negative note, getting ahold of the guy is near impossible, but his secretary is very helpful. Dean also has never missed a court date, sometimes late, but always comes through. I'll never use another attorney.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
