I worked with Mike Kuhn, Paul Lewis, and Cameron Caldwell on a situation for a year. It was an incredibly stressful situation, but because of their partnership through the situation, I felt at peace. Mike, Paul, and Cameron were absolutely incredible every step of the way. Their experience and expertise were immediately evident. They are extremely responsive and give great care to their clients. I highly recommend them!

Gary Craw and Pamela Rood were excellent to work with, they were very professional and respectful, and their experience and knowledge of the processes were critical to a favorable end result— simply said they get things done! Not that I do this often, but if I ever had to go up against the “big auto insurance companies” again, I would most definitely contact Gary and Pam— they will protect your best interests! I was involved in an auto accident in June of 2021. Gary was recommended to me by my employer at the time. The other party was difficult to say the least. Gary and the rest of the team worked diligently and tireless to get me the appropriate settlement amount for my multiple herniated discs. I have and will continue to recommend this firm. Thank you!

I hired this attorney through Upright Law and sorry I did. When I went in to sign my papers in the beginning, I felt rushed and alone as she was doing something else and left me to sign papers in the office by myself. After bankruptcy was discharged, I was trying to contact her via phone and email for weeks to ask when I would be getting my discharge papers and to ask a question about my case with no reply. Her secretary apologized today and that is when I called Upright Law to complain to them about her and to ask when I can get my discharge papers. Upright law will be sending me my discharge papers via email so I can finally get on with my life!

As a business owner they tell you that your CPA and Attorney are your best friends. While I'm still learning and growing everyday, this firm has quickly become my legal team. They've supported me through everything from drafting and enforcing Operating Agreements, to purchasing business/entities, navigating hostile partnerships, and providing legal defense in frivolous employment disagreements. I would not be where I am today without the specific support from Paul Kloster and Chris Wilhelmi. Chris helped me navigate a 2.5yr legal battle with a disgruntled former employee. The case concluded with the opposing counsel dropping the case, firing two associate attorneys, and paying their own legal expenses. In the end, I didn't pay a dime to anyone other than my own legal team. Paul has supervised and counseled me on numerous entity acquisitions and business dealings. One example was where a partner turned hostile and was willing to drive a real estate acquisition into default. We were able to remove the partner and secure their shares well below market rate which allowed me to save the deal. I would not have been able to do any of this without Paul's guidance. All of this to say, if you're a business owner looking for a firm that knows their stuff and is able to navigate everything you might face, these guys have been invaluable to me. While their fees are respectable, they have always kept their word, and at times waived menial expenses on my behalf. As a small business owner, I put my stamp on Paul, Chris, and this firm.

Sam was a very rambunctious easy going lawyer that has done his best from what i can tell to help me in any way bring out the truth about my case! Without actually knowing and or experiencing what I've through he could never completely understand my circumstances of this bogis case but he was at least willing to try and empathize with my horrible experiences. The case is although still pending but will finally hopefully have an outcome coming up the end of April and i hope and pray that we will finally bring some of the truth out! And i will hopefully be released of this charge for my own well being as will as that of my beautiful baby boys in my case! I will write a new review once the case has come to its conclusion. Pray for me if you read this and believe i deserve this blessing from god and sam!!! Thanks for reading and hire Sam he's one of Springs best criminal defense attorney!!! Bridgett Has been great and very helpful with my cases (custody and child support). I had little hope fighting a gender biased system typically favorable of women, but after quite some time things have worked out well considering. Unfortunately sometimes individuals have a biased view such as Sherri kowaleski, and I’m sure many others who never retained Harrison law firm, just aren’t pleased with the outcome of the cases they were on the opposite end of. Leaving a bad review for someone you’ve never hired is distasteful and irrelevant. Services rendered have been helpful to myself and my family and I will continue to have this firm on retainer for the foreseeable future.

Disabled veteran and first time reviewer of anyone. Stay away from this law firm. If you read the low reviews on Google, you'll get the most accurate outlook on the work ethic of this lawyer. I had a restraining order filed on me based on false claims. I had a police incident report practically proving the claims made were false and on my initial meeting, he was quick to say that he would subpoena the police officer that responded to the incident and that he would get the case dismissed. For this he wanted $1,500. As it was part of a divorce with no kids and complicated finances, he charged a total of $3,500 for both. I spoke with a half dozen law firms before going with his since the task was simple enough that even I myself could have done it but since I couldn't afford mistakes, I instead made the mistake of hiring this lawyer. The day before the hearing I had to call him since he had not contacted me regarding the case or his process or anything at all. The reason was that he hadn't done anything- He walked in to the court room less than 5 minutes before the hearing began and asked me questions about the restraining order which I provided to him weeks before. Apparently he took the time to read it right before the hearing itself because instead of fulfilling his promise, he just asked for a continuance or postponement if you're unfamiliar (and billed me for his appearance). The next hearing went exactly the same way, except it was the other party that requested the continuance (and he billed me for his appearance). After I contacted him demanding he file the evidence I provided to him and ask what his plan was for the next hearing, his response was that he was "hoping the other party doesn't show up". He got his wish (and billed me for his appearance) and the case was dismissed without prejudice after him having done nothing and with a smile that implied a victory, said that even though it can be filed again, he would just take care of it then. The next problem was the response to a divorce filing. His paralegal called me multiple times the day it was due, the last of which occurred after 4:00PM while she ironed out the details. The response was filed shortly after that and less than an hour from the deadline, which tells me he wouldn't even have time to proofread it. Although his staff is very diligent , friendly and competent, the opposite is all that can be said for this lawyer. In the first hearing dealing with jurisdiction of my divorce, he lost. For context, the other party represents themselves and is a person in their early 20s with zero college and legal training and that's who he lost to. (and he billed me for all of this) I arranged a meeting in person after this to try to understand why all of this occurred the way it did. The first thing he did in the meeting is remind himself of who I was and my case (he never took the time to learn either of my cases), and after my first query that questioned his level of competence, he immediately offered to withdraw from my case. Having already made the decision to fire him, I pressed forward in the conversation asking him why he failed to get my restraining order case dismissed, to try to get reassurance that he wouldn't lose to court against this person a second time. Instead of providing any explanation, he just reiterated that he would withdraw from my case. I haven't been invoiced for this month yet but I have a feeling I was billed for that as well. The conversation took place over 8 minutes and what I have written here was all he said. The ordeal I've just related cost me over $3,000. And due to his failure to withdraw from my case within a deadline, the opposing party is filing a complaint with the BAR. I am filing one of my own for obvious reasons. I don't see any responses to either positive or negative reviews on google, so use that as reference to his method of addressing really just about anything.

I had a horrible experience with this lawyer and I was not the only one. My best friend hired her to help with a divorce. My friends' husband disappeared for over 5 years and showed up after he found out that he could make a profit since their house gained value. He only paid $ 2000 for a lawyer and received 50% of all assets after being gone and not paying any bills for over 5 years. My friend got the same 50% and paid Patricia 3 times more. I hired her and never went to her office to discuss my case. She filed my divorce forms online which cost little fees but she charged thousands of dollars for a phone call. She does not care about her clients. I fired her and had to pay a high charge to get rid of her services. She is extremely unprofessional.

You'll notice that her ratings have only gone downhill in the more recent years, and this is not a coincidence. She worked on a case for my father-in-law back in 2015 and was exceptional in the courtroom. Based on her past performance, I used her for my child custody support hearing in 2020 and a landlord dispute around the same time, and she was nowhere near the same level of prepaid or willing to argue my points in the courtroom (I honestly think she didn't prepare until the morning of and it showed). She just didn't have any fight in her and was more interested in compromises even in the face of significant evidence in my favor. She will not look at your case until the day of court and still ask you questions that you clearly explained to her in email and other communications that she can reread. Oh, but don't worry, she will charge you for everything you send her, even though she clearly won't even read it during that time. In my child custody hearing the day before court, she asked me to send her all the relevant messages between me and my ex. I already sent them a month prior, and I highlighted the details I thought were important. I was charged for emailing her the month prior because it is "communication," then I got charged again for the same when I resent her the same emails. After hiring this attorney, I am almost $10,000 in debt, and she gave my ex everything her attorney asked for in court and did not (DID NOT!) put up any fight or present my side. I left the courtroom feeling like my side was completely unheard. I was just shocked by the whole thing and found it unbelievable. For how much she charges, you can find a better attorney.

She is a nightmare, she is an alcoholic who is incompetent and plays ball with the opposing attorneys. She will not have your interest in mind only billing you as much as possible. I had to fire her and file a complaint with the Colorado attorneys board. She sat on my case till the last minute which made it impossible for an applet level attorney to enter to fix what she let go because of her personal bias against me. It resulted in me losing custody of my children. She shouldn't have licensure to practice. Stay far away

As a family dispute lawyer Judge Henson is a far cry from fair and equitable. He is definable on every man's side railroading housewives, women, caregivers, working or not its never good enough for him. He is ok with men violating illegal pendancy actions. He supports men not caring for their children during not only pendancy action but also during major pandemic's. In fact he rewards men for it. Of course also believes that women probably do not know much about vehicles, values or could even enjoy them... that's only for men of course. Cases are rush and proper testimony not given, yet orders created out of chaos. Judge Henson has NO idea/familiarity about Union Benefits. He allows for men to double dip on credits/benefits etc that put already economically challenged women at even greater risk for being mistreated. Thus in favor of putting unfair challenges also in minor children of fathers who want to not be held accountable for having children. Judge Henson may have been a good lawyer, decent criminal Judge, however, HE IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST DOMESTIC RELATIONS JUDGE EL PASO COUNTY HAS.

If you want an attorney to take your case, coerce you into hiring a handful of experts - regardless of court's scheduling order - then, drop you at 8pm at night for NO cause - other than the case is more than she can handle, and apparently doesn't like being asked WHY experts were hired....she's your girl. If you want an attorney who drags her feet to retrieve discovery / disclosures needed for your case - she's your girl. If you want someone who does NOT know how to present a case - she's your girl. She will waste your time and money. She is (in my opinion-potentially) only able to handle simple, non-contested divorces....and even then I wouldn't hire her.

If I could give this POS a ZERO Star I would. Impossible to get a hold of, literally did nothing for my family court & contempt-of-court case. My personally favorite of his climax performances is in trail after the other party cried on the stand for 52min lying about me, Andy advises me to remain quiet and NOT to testify…I ended up serving 48hrs incarceration for contempt of court I never committed and the other party didn’t have any evidence. Second favorite is each time to submit a motion Andy took forever and week to get it done. From beginning of March through June he submitted two motions of parental change that were each subpar, elementary, and amateur. Then to top it all off he ghost’s me for three weeks while a bunch of stuff is pending and then to hear he is departing Andrew Bryant Law Firm to open his own Law Firm. Take my advice and stay away from this useless POS.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
