Mike was Recommended to me by my parents who have worked with him in the past and were pleased with how him and his team operates. He has a very “At ease “ Personality while simultaneously being very professional and informative. When I went to his office to sign closing documents for a house, he made the process very easy and stress free. Highly Recommend if you are a Yankees Fan! I would also like to Acknowledge his awesome team he has under his belt. Jana his Paralegal was always ready to answer any questions and Kelly his Receptionist was very helpful when Jana was not available. Highly Recommend using Mike and his team for all of your Legal needs!

Mark led my wife and I through the complicated process of setting up trusts, wills, living wills and all of the necessary documents needed to provide us peace of mind and an excellent plan going forward. Mark's process made everything easy to understand and he explained options and recommendations based on our specific goals and needs. In addition, Mark is easy to work with and very responsive to our queries. The five star rating is a minimum.

Mark Connell is someone we would highly recommend for elder legal advise. We are a couple who do not have much legal expertise and Mark was able to simplify information in a way that was comprehensible. He was professional with time management, with answering our questions and laying out a productive outline for our needs. We also appreciated his ability to engage our children in understanding the development of our plan. Thank you, Mark

Thom is a very knowledgeable and passionate attorney. It is evident that he loves his job, and his dedication to helping both humans and their animals alike is why he’s the best at what he does. Thom was able to help me and my dog stay together during a custody battle through a well thought out plan, and guided me through every step of the way. Thom was always able to answer any and all questions and provided reassurance, all while making sure he didn’t “sugar coat” the facts. His honesty made it so I always knew what the possibilities were and never felt like I was being mislead. I’m very grateful for his service and would 100% recommend Thom to anyone searching for an attorney in animal law.

I hired Attorney Page when my ex boyfriend stole my dog away from me and I had to attend court to get her back. He was very thorough and paid attention to details throughout out my case. He kept me updated through the entire process and sent me copies of all documents along the way. I also appreciated that Attorney Page would have multiple back ups plans depending on how the defendant would respond to certain actions. Attorney Page is extremely passionate about the dogs and pets he saves and it shows. Overall, I was very satisfied with how my case turned out. Attorney Page brought my pup home where she belongs!

Thom helped me with a custody dispute between me and a former partner over our dog. He was incredible and I will be forever grateful for his assistance. He understood how important my dog was to me and was very knowledgeable about the relevant law for our area. Without Thom, I don't think I would have my beloved girl today, and that is an incredible gift. Thank you!

Worked 2 cases with Richard , first one he took care of it and resolved the issue in timely fashion. The second case i was really disappointed, lack of the response, I had to follow up couple times just to get a respond and I called the assistance and I rarely was able to get a phone call back. I ended up hiring another attorney which resolved the issue within a day.

Attorney Jeffrey Armas exceeded my expectations. I felt compelled to type this. My case was not typical that’s what shocks me as to how easy he made it look. He made the process so easy for me. In our initial meeting, he outlined the case timeframe, and everything unfolded as predicted. The biggest one was how quick it took. He settled way ahead of schedule. Unlike my prior experiences with three other attorneys, Jeff's legal knowledge and ability to explain complexities in laymen’s terms set him apart. Anyone inexperienced in dealing with attorneys needs to know that he’s 180% of what you may typically hear about the supposed rep of a lawyer. Hey Jeff, Thanks again for your exceptional service. Wishing you continued success and reminding you to stay true to your core values.Take care brotha

We went to Patrick for a will and I have to let everyone know that he went above and beyond. He pointed out issues that we needed to know about and he helped us find the information. Anytime we had any questions we called him. In fact, he helped us with the home we purchased making sure we understood what we were signing for. We consider Patrick someone that will go out of his way to help us in any decisions we have to make. He told me he is into elder law and he is but we also found a person that can be trusted and there for you. I have told my friends and family if you need someone I found just the person.

Attorney Hughes handled my fathers criminal court case and was able to negotiate a decent disposition. I then asked him to help with my case because I was getting a real bad offer with my public defender and felt as if I was just a number to them. Pat is an extremely down to earth guy. he will not lie to you and tell you something that may not happen. He was more than willing to work with my payments as my finances are awful at the moment. Pat will not promise you something unless it is a one hundred percent guarantee. I love having an honest, caring, ccompassionate attorney in my corner!

I had wrote a review on Patrick that was so great. I’m currently in the process of having it removed. Ya see, I have been going through a rough time in my life. I was charged with things that weren’t true. Well Patrick had read my review and instead of taking it personally. He took it as a challenge to do better and instead of being a lawyer, he opened up as a friend and really made me and my family feel comfortable. When the stuff hits the fan, you’re gonna want someone who will help you feel at ease. Not only does this man excel at law. He is a wonderful human! You’re lawyer may be good but my lawyer does more. If you don’t contact Patrick first. You’re gonna end up last.

I had an amazingly positive experience with Attorney Brodeur and her staff. I found her office by drawing a 10 mile circle around my house and looking for attorneys affiliated with my legal insurance plan. I checked out the websites and something about Attorney Brodeur’s just stood out. Attorney Brodeur spent a large amount of time getting to know me and my personal situation. I knew I was not getting a cookie cutter plan. I never felt rushed. She has collated a great set of tools to help with this. She carefully and thoroughly explained the advantages and disadvantages of will-based vs trust-based estate planning. She took extra time answering my questions by phone after our in-person meetings. At every stage of the process I felt like I was well taken care of and that I was getting the best advice. She was very patient as I worked through my uncertainties about what I needed. She has also collated a wonderful set of ancillary tools and services for passing on personal and generational knowledge to heirs. So, it’s not just about ‘who gets the money’. The office is well run, all my phone calls and emails were responded to promptly. Kasey is a fantastic paralegal. I’m over-the-moon happy to have found Attorney Brodeur and I’m thrilled that I have her card in my wallet should I need legal services again.

Let me start off by first saying Edith was the most amazing paralegal I've dealt with. Its a shame Teresa was not able to perform to the same standard, let alone any standard I've seen an attorney hold themselves to. The purchase of the property was smooth and simple however there was an issue being part of the property I was entitled to having access to I was not. Teresa told me during the close "heres my card if you have any issues or need help in the future" well I ended up needing it and when I called Teresa to say I was unable to access my promised parking and that the sellers agent lied about the parking situation and I in fact did not have a spot, I was told "sorry we can't help with post close matters". So much for giving me your card then, If you expect to close and are not worried about needing helpm after the close then you will be okay. But god forbid you need help post close you won't get it here. Finding an attorney to remediate the situation was rough, they all asked the same question "what about your closing attorney?" to which I had to explain as I did above. To put it plainly Edith was amazing, Teresa was not. I truly hope I am the only person this firm has caused this level of stress. *** Edit #1 Post Response Wow what a mess, so in their response it was detailed that I was instructed to contact the HOA and the City of Hartford. It was also detailed that I had purchased the space post close. Point One - I was instructed to contact the city and the HOA which i did numerous times, they all told me the same thing. Speak to your closing attorney. They couldn't help with this as it was an issue of what was promised in the sale and they were not the responsible party. Point Two - The space was not purchased after the closing, it was said to have been included in the sale of the property along with the unit, as show in the listing. According to the CT department of consumer protection they state that real estate listing websites such as zillow and redfin are protected "a real estate broker shall exersice diligence at all times in obtaining and presenting accurate information in the brokers advertising and representation to the public." They also state that "MLS forms are deemed reliable." Point Three - The only reason i had pushed to make a claim against the brokerage in court rather than "contacting the HOA and City of Hartford" is not because I "appeard indifferant to the suggestions" its because I tried them. They know I did because I told them of the attempts before contacting them again to ask about filling a claim. If that wasn't communicated internally to the attorneys then thats not my fault, however I will not let this office misconstrue what actually happened. Point Four - In regards to "I'm Not particularly suprised Mr. Yabandeh has had a "rough time finding an attorney to bring his claim for misrepresentation" the reason being not because they didn't think it was an unviable claim. Reason being as discussed with one attorney "we have had issues with cleaning up past attorneys dirty work before and it never ends well, sorry." I truly hope this office uses this not only as a learning experiance for how to handle customer dissatisfaction but also in the field of being more dilligent in responding in a frankly repugnant manner rather than understanding the situation was poorly handled on their end.

In scrutinizing the recruitment process conducted by Ment Law Group in engaging Francesco “Frank” Picone, it appears to have been executed with a haste mirroring Mr. Picone's characteristic lack of attention to detail. This critique is kept superficial, as a more comprehensive examination of Mr. Picone's performance is anticipated to unfold in due course. Mr. Picone's assertions regarding his proficiency in "interviewing/fact collecting" are lamentable, particularly if accurate. Such claims cast doubt upon the efficacy of his purported certifications, suggesting either a deficiency in their vetting procedures or an opportunistic pursuit of profit. In the course of handling my case, Mr. Picone repeatedly allowed pertinent evidence to lapse or be mishandled, a consequence directly attributable to his apparent disregard for thorough fact-finding. Furthermore, Mr. Picone's proclamation of possessing "integrity and excellence" is unsubstantiated. On numerous occasions, he has omitted truthful statements, neglected exculpatory evidence, and distorted facts, solely for self-serving motives. These actions starkly contradict any claims of integrity and excellence. Those seeking individuals of integrity or genuine excellence should look elsewhere. Regrettably, Mr. Picone's ineptitude has resulted in tangible harm, yet he appears indifferent to the consequences, prioritizing self-preservation over accountability. Any inquiries by Ment Law Group regarding the specifics of these grievances are welcome, though skepticism surrounds the likelihood of any meaningful investigation being conducted.

I panicked in a situation where it was impossible for me to appear in court In person. I shelled out $500 for 2 phone calls. I should have saved my money. Not because her answers were flawed, but because my question was. Make sure you really realty need an attorney's advice before you punch in their number and debit yourself their time. I've used them before and probably will again. I just have to learn to rely on myself a little more. I get $20] for my reviews, by the way. My bill is in the mail. 😃

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
