Called in to get help on a ticket and instead get yelled at for what happened. People are calling in to get help not to get scolded. Daniel Parker helped me with the recovery of my KS DL he was able to get my driving record clean. He got me my DL back in a timely manner and most importantly I didn’t have to chase him down to get updates on my case he was active and kept me informed through the entire process and got it done in 2 visits. Parker & Parker’s have been around my family for 5 generations I will continue to hire him and refer him to everyone in need of a traffic/criminal attorney. Can’t forget about Brian, he is a great asset to Daniel’s office very well informed and humble. I have no doubt he is an amazing Attorney too.

He won't do anything you ask for. Example I asked to go back to my maiden name. Divorce is final but i have to do extra to get my name back. No follow up I would hear from the court before I would hear from my lawyer. I had to pester for emails. Of the 4 things I asked him to address he only took care of 1. I wish I could get my money back. Complete waste.

I wish i could give 0 stars. I’ve never felt so frustrated and cheated. I hired Denise to process my Advance Parole back in April of 2023. By November 2023 my “Assistant” told me my file was going to be sent off the last week of November. 2 months went by and didnt hear anything from them. I called in January to check in hoping my approval was soon only to find out they never sent off my file!!! And that my assistant was not employed there anymore! I had to restart the process again with a new assistant because they didn't have all of my file anymore! The lack of communication is unreal and impossible to speak to Denise. I fired her in September due to negligence towards my case. She decided i only deserved 80 dollars back from the almost 1500 i paid. They did not do anything besides put documents together that they never filed! I requested to speak to Denise for months and I have yet to receive a call back or email back from Denise to dispute my refund. All she cares is about the money. If she cant handle her lawfirm then maybe she shouldn’t have one. I will continue to fight for my refund. The state bar association will be my next step step if she continues to ignore me. Im not the only one shes done this to. This is ridiculous. Sucks that she does this to her own people.

We live in Olathe and needed a "good" family law lawyer. We hired a local law firm who seemed to have the right stuff. 3/4 of the way through our family court matter, we had to fire our lawyer. We heard about Denise Ramos through a work associate and made the call. We met with her and she made us feel so comfortable. She didn't mince words about the status of our case or the potential for a hopeful outcome, since our previous lawyer mucked things up procedurally from a legal perspective. Regardless, she was tough and aggressive in the court room. She presented case law and rulings that had the opposition attorney's head spinning. Denise is a great advocate for her clients and represents and fights for their well-being -- AND -- she's a really nice woman! We strongly recommend her law firm!

Imagine that you hire a painter to paint your house inside and out, you pay him for all the work so that he does the job well, then he paints you inside and then tells you that he will no longer do the job for you for X reason. and that you look for another painter, you tell him that there is no problem but that he return part of the money that you gave him, and that you never hear from him again... what would you do???? That happened to me with this lawyer. If there was the option to give it zero stars she would do it. She and her assistant are not professionals, the assistant treats you very badly as if she was doing you a favor. very bad service and very bad experience. I never recommend them. imagina que contratas un pintor para que pinte tu casa por dentro y por fuera, le pagas todo el trabajo para que te haga bien el trabajo, entonces, el te pinta por dentro y luego te dice que ya no te hará el trabajo por X razón y que busques a otro pintor, tu le dices que no hay problema pero q te devuelva parte del dinero que le diste, y no vuelvas a saber más de él... ustedes que harían???? eso me pasó con esta abogada. si hubiera la opción de ponerle cero estrellas lo haría. ella y su asistente no son profesionales, la asistente te trata muy mal como si te estuviera haciendo un favor. muy mal service y muy mala experiencia. no los recomiendo nunca.

Marcus has very poor communication skills. We contacted him because he was highly recommended by a good friend of mine. Initial contact with him was awesome. He explained that he would be able to help with a traffic matter for $50.00. He further went on to explain that if he had to travel to show up in court it would be an additional $200-$250, no problem for us. We sent Marcus the $50 3-4 days later without any response. From this point on it became a cat and mouse game. I would call him he wouldn’t answer or I would call him and he said he would call me right back. Needless to say, I never received any calls back. I attempted to contact Marcus again because I was scared, knowing that I had a warrant out for my arrest because I did not have my insurance card on me was a very scary thought. After numerous of calls and texts to Marcus I asked for my $50.00 back because he has done absolutely nothing. He informed me that he charges for any contact pertaining to me whether it be me or the courts. According to Marcus he stated he charges $200 at this time and I’ve used 35 minute so far. Please stay clear away from Marcus if you want to have your case handled professionally and in a timely manner.

Aline Pryor took my money and gave me nothing but more stress in return. She's friends with the other lawyers and she goes in and makes deals that are not in her clients best interest. I would 100% agree with the other negative reviews. At the initial meeting, Aline and her assistant seemed very attentive and promising. However, the case became about the money than handling my case. Would agree that she was condescending and doesn't listen to her client who hired her. I also was tasked with putting together meaningless paperwork and providing background information. All of which was never used and it was clear she never read it. I did catch her in a lie about a discussing with the opposing attorney. When I questioned her I received a belittling email back. It's hard to switch lawyers when you have sunk $27K into the case. Save yourself time and money and look elsewhere. The experience with her was worse than than the reason I hired her. Worse decision...

Everyone here lies. My case has been open for 14 months. Trial was supposed to be next week and I found out this week they kck police didn’t give over all evidence. But the prosecutor had 14 months of conversations with me to realize she didn’t have all evidence. The prosecutor gave a criminal a year of probation for breaking into my home even though I have video evidence. He can’t be held accountable for his actions because he was under the influence. As if being drunk is an excuse for committing a felony. The people who work here do not care about justice.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
