April 15, 2012 I was arrested for a DWI. I had a history of DWI convictions. The District Attorney was ruthless. I was on Parole and could not bond out. I went to trial and was found NOT GUILTY on April 2, 2015. Yes, I was found NOT GUILTY after sitting in jail 2-1/2 years. I felt my neck under the boot of an impatient, Byzantine legal bureaucracy of Galveston County. The true blessing and hope was that I was in good hands with Tad Nelson and Amber Spurlock on my side. I was in the conservative court of Judge Lonnie Cox, which is said to favor the State. I was summoned to his chambers and was greeted by an Electric Chair sitting next to the photo of him and his bride. One could not feel any less comfortable. The Galveston Police officer had a story and so did I. Both stories conflicted each other. Tad Nelson listened to every word I had to say and he asked all the right questions. Tad and his team did their research, and did a great job doing so. Thanks to Amber Spurlock with Tad Nelson, we won! I am forever grateful for all the attention he gave me and the fact that she paid attention to what I had to say. I tell everyone I know about Amber Spurlock and Tad Nelson because of their great work. It was a very stressful time and Amber was there for me. Donnie was fantastic. I initially called an attorney’s office near my home that I was familiar with, and they themselves are the ones who actually referred me to Donnie for my particular circumstances.
I had “fix it” tickets for not having an updated address on my license and my registration had expired. I went online, updated the address, paid the fine, sent proof to the court. With the registration ticket, I updated my registration, paid the late fees and submitted proof to the court. Where I dropped the ball was overlooking the additional $10 fine that could only be paid in person. The League City Municipal Court had set a court date for me that I had missed and when I was notified via text from the city about my arrest warrant, you can probably imagine my bewilderment. I called the court and initially spoke to an extremely unsympathetic clerk who gave me two options: Pay the much larger fine now and have a misdemeanor on my record or turn myself in, spend the day and night in jail and roll the dice with the judge the next day.
This is all over an additional $10 fine that was in addition to the fees I had paid in updating my registration. Absolutely ludicrous, and this random clerk clearly had a bone to pick with me about missing the court date. I then spoke with the League City Municipal Court Administrator who was exactly the same. Pay the fine, enjoy the new criminal record or go to jail and pound sand. At this point I’m nearly livid at the absurdity of this kangaroo court and 20 minutes later I’m on the phone with Donnie. His fee happened to be exactly the same as the fine I was facing, yet with him I’d at least have a shot at getting this whole thing taken care of. So obviously, this is a no brainer.
Donnie immediately got to work. I admit I was surprised at how promptly he got into it. He gave me a phone call later in the same day after spending an hour on the phone with the same clerk I dealt with. In essence, this random court clerk somehow thought she knew the law better than an actual attorney with a resume like Donnie’s and he had to politely, but firmly put her in her place. She called the judge to confirm if she was right or Donnie was right and the judge put her in her place as well and minutes later the arrest warrant was pulled and Donnie had me squared away. I went back to the Municipal court to pay my $10 fine, gave the clerk the most smug smile I have ever mustered in my entire life and was on my way.
It’s a paradoxical shame that I met Donnie in these circumstances as he exudes competence and was a genuine pleasure to work with. I would love to do more business with him in the future, but I generally do not run afoul of the law and would have to screw something up majorly for us to have that opportunity. Rest assured however, that whatever circumstance I may find myself in that needs an attorney, Donnie will be the first I call. If the specific circumstance is out of his realm it expertise, I will still reach out to him and ask for a recommendation as I trust his judgment that much already.
If you’re considering utilizing his services, you are only doing yourself a disservice by not at least giving him a call. And to Donnie, thank you for everything.

Mr. Smith is a true professional. He did everything to ease my worries and concerns and even provided me with his cell phone number, which I had to use when I was having a panic attack because of the case and within 2 min he reassured me we were in a good position. The best thing is that he's a former prosecutor so his words carry alot of weight in the court room. Great lawyer, he showed up a little late which worried me but when he got there he was able to handle it quickly. I had a speeding ticked for 39 over the posted limit as well as a front license plate violation and came out only having to pay court fees and the front plate violation(not a moving violation). I hired Mr. Tylka to defend charges brought against me. From the moment I initially contacted him he was ready to work for me. He made his availability very high to me, and I could easily contact him by phone or email when needed. I chose him out of several other attorney candidates to hire because he was not only willing to take my case, but he also was ready to work hard and get all the information he needed as quickly as possible in order to begin working on my case. Although I would come to know Mr. Tylka quite well over the course of working with him with my case, I could tell he was very knowledgeable and carried himself with the utmost professional demeanor from when we first spoke over the phone (On a Sunday no less). 2 weeks ago I consulted. On 10/24 I paid $1000 for just a demand letter for a denied $20k claim against my carrier that I intend to take to small claims. I am new father, a student, fighting cancer, and have a full time job. I got weaseled by my renters insurance on some bs after I had my home invaded and was robbed of almost everything of value. Due to the loss I have had to drop two classes and probably will drop the others to save my gpa because the situation got me very far behind and without any electronics to do online coursework. He knew this and after receiving payment has gone radio silent ***except when I called off my friends number , he answered , asked me if I had given him the loss inventory and some contact info that had already sat in his inbox for 4-5 days. He said he was on it and has gone back to zero communication(no text, email, or phone call back).
Taking money with intention of not rendering service or with the intention and delivering this quality of service is just wrong and why I give one star.
