Sought advice for a personal issue ... Attorney Mark Falvo was very understanding, compassionate and knowledgable about divorce law, and helped me navigate the legal issues involved during a very difficult time in my life. He returned my phone calls promptly and kept me informed, which meant a lot to me after dealing with other attorneys in the past in real estate transactions, custody issues, etc.

Josh Tebay should be your go-to attorney. His communication and personal attention are second to none. He will fight your case with the rigor it requires while communicating effectively along the way. We hired Josh for a car accident claim, and after working with other ineffective lawyers, Josh Tebay took over and was able to win us the maximum award in a timely fashion. We highly recommend him, you will not be disappointed.

I hired M.r Thielen because my husband is in the process of starting his company. Mr. Thielen took care of me rapidly because I started the process late. He was quick and was able to answer any question through email and phone. We were able to open accounts that were needed to start up the company, could not be any happier with the results. I decided to keep him on hand for any issues with our company or personal. I highly recommend him.

I hired Attorney Herber to represent me in a litigation matter. He was very knowledgeable about the problem. Negotiations were tried at the beginning to try and resolve the matter out of court. However, the other side ignored our attempt to resolve it, and so we proceeded to court. The matter went through the court system pretty quick. I was actually surprised with how rapidly it was handled. We had a couple hearings, after which the Judge ruled in my favor. Success! Attorney Herber kept me informed of each step in the process, gave me options as to how we could proceed, and also explained the advantages and disadvantages of each option to me, in a way that I could understand them.

Kim is a very good DUI defense attorney (and is proven in other areas of criminal defense, but he concentrates solely on DUIs now I believe). I hired Kim for two DUI cases. One case was ultimately dismissed and the other case he negotiated a future employment killing felony reduced to a lesser charge. Kim interacts very well with police officers, district attorneys, and judges. They all seem to like him(save a particular judge and PA state trooper, see below). This is very important, because if the key players do not like your attorney, a case could be drawn out for a longer time and lead to a unfavourable outcome no matter how strong your case is. He is very honest. He won't promise you the moon. He will lay out the options, but he will be honest that he can't predict what will ultimately happen. He told me he won't go in front of a particular judge if they get assigned my case because that judge does not like him (because he had one of their rulings overturned in the superior courts). A state cop in one of the cases didn't like him because he was actually doing what I hired him to do to fight my case (I think many cops are just used to people pleading guilty or taking a plea agreement in DUIs and get angry when defendants fight the case). We ultimately won that case. Kim is always on top of current DUI case law. Numerous times sitting with him waiting for hearings he mentioned very recent case law that may help or hurt my case. Bottom line: If you are charged with a DUI in the Pittsburgh area and want the best chance to fight the charge, you hire Kim Riester. He charges by the hour, and he is not cheap, but he gives you the best chance to win a DUI case in PA. And on top of being a great defense attorney, he is also a nice down to earth guy (which you will appreciate when you are facing the uncertainty of the criminal justice system).

Mr. Moore represented me in a criminal case in which I was falsely accused by a vindictive former business partner. The facts and the timeline in this case for lack of a better word were very close and even though I was on video else where the accuser tried very to "move the goal posts" many times to convince the jury of my culpability.Mr. Moore through his great attention to detail of the facts, trial experience, and powerful cross examination of the the accuser and spouse enlightened the jury of this evil persons' intent . Thanks to his hard workand diligence I was found unanimously not guilty on 8 counts of the complaint. Through the 4 months of this nightmare Mr. Moore kept us well informed of what was happening, gave my wife and I the knowledge that we were being compentently and vigorously represented without making any empty promises, and a certain comfort level under the circumstances.I've been around long enough to know that nothing is certain and every situation is fluid, that being said I give William E. Moore my highest recommendation of competence and confidence. Thanks a million soldier

Vince was able to establish grounds for an appeal during my trial for a 2nd DUI that may lead to the charge being dropped.I believe this was established using the laws of evidence concerning DUI testing and the time frame involved. Also, there may have been a 5th amendment violation of my rights as statements were used while I may have been "in custody" when surrounded by police.

Chuck is a kind, caring, down to earth guy. He honestly cares about his clients and their families. He works hard to get whats right for his clients. His rates are very fair and he will get results. I have witnessed him in action, both as a public defender and private attorney. He is known to go to any lengths, even as a public defender to see that the client is not jaded by the prosecution. I recommend him if you have a case in Armstrong or any other county that is in his area of expertise. He will not do you wrong.

Divorce and child custody issues are complicated, scary, hurtful, and overwhelming. My case was no different. Dave not only assisted me in attaining the best outcome, but he walked me through the process each step of the way. He made it known from the very beginning that doing what’s in the best interest of our children was his first priority. He taught me that regardless of how I may feel about my ex during the divorce process, my job was to make it as easy on the children as possible. He made you stop and think about the actions you may want to take, both legally and at home, and if I could answer that it was in the children’s best interest, then we could proceed. It’s been 4 years since we were officially divorced, and we are still able to co-parent effortlessly and work together daily for our children’s benefit. Unfortunately, this is not common in divorces, but learning from Dave during the process changed this for our family.

I've recently hired Mr. Cuddy and found to have his service provided to be very professional and an excellent process. For my ticket I had was a traffic violation in the county of Washington in PA. Being that I was from out of state I was unsure of where to turn to because I was not a local resident. Within hiring Mr. Cuddy he provided great communication and answered whatever questions I needed clarification on. What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
