I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her! From the very first phone call until the end she was absolutely amazing. She was like family. Rina handled a difficult case between family members and she was nothing short of classy and professional through out the entire case. She is so knowledgeable and genuinely down to earth with her clients that she made me feel so comfortable and confident that everything would work out. She was right! Amazing attorney.

I can truly say that Attorney PieRina Infelise works with integrity, accuracy, and most of all compassion. I was 30 days away from adopting a child I had for two and a half years to only be falsely accused of child abused. Attorney PieRina was very detailed about finding the truth and presenting it to the judge with all the facts. Thank God for her due diligence I won my case! Thank you Attorney PieRina Infelise for all the hard work you've done. Truly grateful, Cindy Walker

I have unfortunately had my fair share of scrapes with the law over the years, all the way back to my younger years. Every single time I got into any trouble, I hired Tim Martin. 7 total cases, 0 total convictions. Spanning 19 years. Brass Tacks. Don’t gamble with your future, hire this attorney and you won’t be dissapointed.

He literally saved me from a felony. He is a hero in my eyes but more importantly dedicated and serious about his craft, you can tell by the effort and help in which he puts into the case and the small details that can turn the whole case. He really proves the defense attorney stigma wrong and is a huge motivation for me as an aspiring lawyer. If you can trust someone with your life it would be Michael…

When you talk about an absolute miracle you talk about Michael Sweeny. It took me more than a month after my case to write this review because I wanted to write the perfect review for the perfect lawyer. I hired Mr. Sweeny for my very difficult case which I thought had no hope to be honest. He was very efficient, quick to act and thorough, and instilled a lot of confidence throughout the process. My case could have had a potentially very damaging outcome, however, it was resolved positively, with much better results than I or anyone else in that courtroom could have ever expected. I was met with stellar communication skills, excellent and professional representation and understanding without judgement. Any aspect of my case that he was not familiar with was met with profound research and that made me feel hopeful because my case had damaging effects on other parts of my life. Words cannot justify the outstanding service, professionalism and excellent results I received from having Mr.Sweeny as my defense attorney. Ultimately, hiring him proved to be one of the more important decisions I have made, and I will always be grateful to him for helping me navigate an incredibly difficult time in my life. I couldn’t give better recommendation or praise. Thank you for a second chance at life.

I would absolutely recommend Henry and the MKFM firm to all my friends and family. My case was a contested adoption and ended up also including a side appeal case as well. It was an extremely long and litigious case that required patience, expertise and attention to detail. We won our case handedly and we would not have without Henry's extensive knowledge in case law, brilliant trial composure and overall calm, composed and very confident demeanor. In fact, the Appellate court saw fit to have Henry's arguments entered into case law for future cases. If you need an attorney who can get the job done, look no further, this firm does not mess around.

I came to Henry with a divorce case previously handled by another attorney that was extremely long, complicated, and for which there was no similar precedent. Add to that a change in the divorce law while in process, and the complexity magnified. I truly believe had it not been for Henry's intelligence, tenacity, deep understanding/amazing total recall of the law, and spirited desire to make things right, my outcome would have been financially and psychologically disastrous. I cannot say enough good things about Henry's skill, competence and patience, and would highly recommend Henry to anyone looking for an ethicial and upstanding attorney for the best possible legal outcome.

Stephen with his experience and knowledge of the courts and people was able to get this knocked down to a simple fine, traffic school and supervision - just about the opposite of what you’d expect on a speeding ticket you should get arrested for. Attorney Miglore is THE G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Times) when it comes to Criminal Law. He was able to do what others said would NEVER EVER happen. My spouse had an issue that he was grandfathered into when the laws changed which was out of state that required him to register as a sex offender. We lived in Illinois for a brief period and to be in compliance with the law he had to register. The out of state Judge granted an order to remove him from the registry nationally. Since we lived in Illinois briefly, he was on the registry and was told that he would be on the Ilinois registry for the rest of his life, even though we don't reside there anymore. Hiring Attorney Miglore was the BEST DECISION of our lives. He was victorious in getting my spouse removed off of the Illinois registry, I mean REMOVED COMPLETELY. He knows the law and works hard for his clients. There are no words to express our appreciation and gratitude for the interest that he took to get this resolved. We are forever grateful. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! If you ever need the BEST look no further contact Attorney Salvatore Miglore, a True Professional with the IT Factor. (Integrity & Trust)

My wife received a ticket for not properly stopping by a school bus in a school zone. it was total B.S. she was stopped the bus was moving with his sign out! Naturally there was a ticket maid from the government to watch and nail her with a ticket. He probably sits there all day. Its just another revenue generator for local government. Its a very serious ticket because they threaten to restrict or suspend your license ( its all about kids safety right?lol) Plus she works as a nanny and submits to background checks. she was interviewing with a couple when this happened and this ticket came up in a check on care.org and they suspended my wife's account like she was guilty!!! what happen to innocent until proven guilty. it was a real mess. Sal got it changed to a changing lanes violation with online drivers improvement school and a probation period. These over paid ticket maid are out to nail you and generate revenue for the local government. thats their real job. Do not let them steal from you. You have rights. Hire Sal! To end a bright note the couple hired my wife with a four year contract. They said everyone knows what the cops are up to so it didn't bother them in the least.

He was 100% responsive to all of my communications, easy to talk to and walked me through exactly what to do right after I was hit...knew I was taken care of and didn't have to worry. Very honest and very knowledgeable. I knew he was not afraid to try my case if it came down to it (which it almost did)...which was incredibly relieving to me after a super stressful accident. I retained Attorney Scott Marquardt to help me get relief on a criminal case through a pardon/expungement. I faced a case I never should have been convicted of and could not find many lawyers who understood the unique circumstances of that situation. Scott was always very kind, open-minded, and willing to listen carefully to my case. He had no problem taking it on and immediately assigned a team of attorneys to review and draft my petition for clemency. Clemency is an extremely hard process for anyone to get relief, but Scott has never given plan and said he never plans on giving up as long as he's practicing law. While we certainly do not know what the outcome of my petition for a pardon/expungement will be, Scott is always thinking of new strategies that might help getting a favorable outcome on my petition. Furthermore, Scott has also tried other avenues to find relief such as sealing and expungements through the Court system. Scott and his team of attorneys have written brilliant legal arguments on my behalf, and he is still hopeful that some day I might find relief on my case. The legal system and courts make no promises to anyone, but I feel very good that I have Scott and his wonderful team of lawyers working on my case. Not only has Scott and his firm helped me with clemency, but I have faced other legal troubles during this time. Scott has always been willing to listen and truly wants to help with my situation. My family and I are very thankful for all the work he has done on my behalf. For these reasons, I would strongly recommend Scott Marquardt and his firm in the areas of executive clemency and criminal law. I feel better situated now to getting a positive outcome on my cases than I did prior to hiring Scott.

I retained David Imielski and his firm to represent me on a very sensitive felony case. After being charged, I felt devastated because I knew I was innocent and that it would be difficult to find a criminal lawyer to fight every step of the way. Dave has a strong background in criminal defense and handling felony cases. He is very conscientious and pays close attention to all aspects of my case. From the beginning, I made it extremely clear to Dave that there would be absolutely no plea deals, and he had no problem with this and continued to fight hard for my innocence. This is a rare quality as many other attorneys I worked with are resolute to make an innocent person plead; this was not the case with Dave. My family and I feel at ease with speaking to him, and he informs us of all the motions that he files and the reasons for those motions. At this time, my case is still pending in the criminal courts, but have all the confidence in Dave to see this case through to trial or in getting the charges completely dismissed. I would also like to add that I make this recommendation in the context of having to be in a corrupt government system and a State's Attorney who is presently having her office reviewed by the FBI and the Dept. of Justice for numerous allegations of misconduct and unethical behavior. Dave is fully cognizant of the intricate workings of this county government and prepares for court accordingly. For the reasons stated above, I would recommend, without reservations, David Imielski as a criminal defense lawyer.

I would definitely recommend Nick and Ramsell & Associates should you find yourself in need of an excellent legal team. From day one Nick took charge, laid out all the possible outcomes and jumped right to defending my rights. He is a no fuss no muss type of attorney, doesn’t sugarcoat any part of the process and when he says not to worry, he means it. Unbelievable how quickly he was able to move my case from start to resolution, allowing me to move beyond this event and get on with my life. More importantly, he was ready to contest my case with the state and the judge, to my ultimate benefit - achieving the best outcome for my situation (which matched exactly the outcome he said we could work towards in the initial consultation.) I would highly recommend Nick and his legal firm. Don’t expect handholding or therapy - that’s not their job. Their service does come at a cost but that is because you can expect to get the best representation available. “You get what you pay for” isn’t just a saying it’s reality. Can’t say enough about Nick except thank you.

I received a DUI last December. Once in the system , I received dozens of letters, testimonials, and resumes from attorneys soliciting my business, to represent me in court for my case. I chose Ingrid based on her experience and background. That was a Huge and Costly Mistake. Once Ingrid took my money, she became next to impossible to reach. Every time I called her office her subordinates would screen my call and gave me a myriad of excuses why Ingrid wasn't available to talk to me. When I did finally talk to her she was very condescending and provided little incite to what the next step(s) would be. The outcome was terrible, and I have to believe it would have been different with better representation. This was my first and last experience with this type of thing. I was relying on my attorney to keep me apprised of what to expect. Lesson learned!

My wife and I first retained Dennis 24 years ago for a real estate purchase and were incredibly impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and relaxing yet take-charge demeanor. He set everyone at ease at the closing while he handled the legal matters. We just sat back and watched the show, and the next thing we knew, we were owners of our new home. And we never forgot him. Since then, we have used Dennis for reference on numerous occasions regarding real estate, estate planning, elder law and estate administration. He knows the law and gets things done efficiently, and he follows up matters on his own initiative. He is also respectful, compassionate and principled, and has a sense of humor that makes dealing with him a pleasure rather than a chore. When we have an issue that may require legal representation, Dennis J McNicholas is always the first person that comes to mind... always. He does not disappoint, and he has our absolute highest recommendation.

I would stay far away from this firm.. I am in complete disbelief.. Michelle Edens took my money (which I paid in full upfront) and filed a motion to rescind, then didn’t even act on the motion. Due to her negligence, I was put in a situation where the only option left was to plead guilty to something that should have easily been dropped from the start. Michelle was very confident that the charges would be dropped, and she sweet talked me into hiring her. She and her colleague were laughing at the charges due to my clear dash cam footage showing that the officer pulled me over for a false reason (improper lane usage, clear video showing I did not cross any street markings, or as the officer claimed that I actually hit the curb), which led to a DUI. She told me that she could almost guarantee the charges would be dropped due to my evidence. I received zero communication about what was going on with the case throughout the entire process. At the second court appearance, Michelle did not even appear in person as I was instructed to. I wasted almost 7 hours of my time (including an hour and 40 minutes to drive there and back) when I could have just appeared via Zoom as she did for a continuance. I also had to speak to the judge, as Michelle decided to go on Zoom for 10 minutes and log off before my case could be heard. I was literally the last person in the courtroom and had to call her office multiple times and send multiple emails for her to get back on. I was then told that they (Michelle & Jason Kunowski) would send me any evidence they received from the state and that they would keep me updated. Not a single word from them besides telling me to complete a DUI evaluation. I came to court for the third time (which I was led to believe would be the final hearing with a rescission) only to see that they sent a lawyer I have never met or talked to. He then tries to confirm with me that I have been updated with what is going on and if I have any questions about the plea agreement. I had zero clue what was going on with the case and was surprised to find out that they had already drawn up an agreement for me to plead guilty to the DUI. This new lawyer was also confused as to why I was not told anything. I don’t hold anything against him, as he did try his best by asking the state for a rescission attached to the agreement on my request (I initially was not going to sign off on the agreement) but was instantly denied. Apparently my evidence was never used, nor was there any attempt to actually defend me, and they wanted me to take whatever offer the state threw out. Knowing how far along I already was with the court process and how badly I have been represented by this firm, I couldn’t think of any other option. Now I have to deal with an additional $3k+ in fees and fines, a year of court supervision, a license suspension, and multiple DUI classes. Let this be a WARNING… There are plenty of skilled, competent lawyers out there, so look elsewhere!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
