Paul and his team are simply the best at what they do! They have an incredibly thoughtful approach for their clients matched with a forward thinking legal strategy and execution. I have hired Paul's team for family before, and as a concerned family member, I felt that I had placed my family in the best of hands; nothing can beat knowing that in your heart. And the favorable result that was gained for my family proved that I had made the best decision by turning to this firm.

It is so hard as a parent to find your son in trouble, but from my first phone call with Robert to my last email with Brad, I am convinced we did the correct thing by hiring Capovilla & Williams. Brad answered our emails and scheduled phone calls with us as we needed. He spoke to my son frequently throughout the process and worked diligently with him. We finally met him in person the day before trial, and he was adamant that we had enough time with our son. He was very empathetic and understanding. We even shared a few laughs in a very difficult time. Brad was phenomenal at trial. I noticed he kept my son in a positive frame of mind. After trial he kept him apprised as to what would happen next, the good, bad and ugly. I highly recommend the firm and Brad Simon. They are fantastic attorneys!

From the very beginning of my first consultation I felt a sense of security and promise! I spoke with Brad at first who definitely made me feel like I was in the right place. And soon after speaking with Sean Flood I was sold!! Sean and his team went above and beyond to make sure my GOMOR was filed locally. He educated me and went into detail on the scope of the allegations against me. From there he and his team went to work! Not once did I think I wasn't in good hands. I highly recommend Capovilla and Williams a hundred times over! Sean is phenomenal at handling GOMOR's!

Caryn’s firm prepared my family trust. I personally consulted with her on how to handle some complicated and tricky situations. Her advice was spot on and extremely helpful. She advised on items we had not even thought of or considered. Her explanations are precise, concise, and unconditionally principled. She is absolutely the first person I would go to if I were in need of legal expertise or advice.

I highly recommend Caryn for her exceptional service, support and professionalism. From start to finish, she and her team provided exceptional support, always available to answer my questions and address any concerns. She made the entire process smooth and stress-free, clearly explaining every step along the way. This was very important to me, as I have no experience or legal knowledge. Her accessibility and dedication to her clients are truly commendable. I thank her very much for that! If you need legal assistance, Caryn S. Fennell is someone you can trust for top-notch representation and care.

I found myself in the middle of a challenging court case for child support and parenting plan modification, and my previous lawyer was not meeting my expectations. After being referred to Fennell, Briasco & Associates and conducting some research, I decided to hire them. They quickly took over and made remarkable progress on my case. I was genuinely impressed by the extensive background research they conducted and the extraordinary amount of time and effort the entire team invested. When we finally went to court, they skillfully convinced the judge to drop the claims against me, allowing me to settle for everything I wanted. I am extremely satisfied with the dedication and hard work of the entire team, and I highly recommend them to anyone. They are worth every extra penny for the exceptional results they deliver!

Tony is AMAZING. He was very professional, personable and friendly. He answered every question with complete detail and was well prepared and confident. Every time we called he answered the phone, even on weekends. He even came up on a Sunday to pick up paperwork to be turned into court. Our loved one was looking at 3 years and prison and Tony got him back home in 3 weeks. You want Tony on your side!

I could not recommend Kyle Koester as a lawyer enough! I came to him with a unique case that other lawyers did not want to take on as it was a challenging case. However, Kyle went above and beyond for me from the moment that I brought my case to him. His communication was amazing, he was very thorough and professional, truly cared about me as his client, & he fought for me in a very stressful time. He won my case and I’m so thankful I found him! In the stressful times that you find yourself needing a lawyer, it is so important and equally as hard to find someone that you can trust. Kyle is your guy!

So …. My life has been kinda crazy in the last year, but fortunately I met Tim, and he’s helped me get through ALL of my problems. Please take the time to read everything. This is an incredible testimony. My life would have been ruined without Tim ! In May 2023, my son’s mother and I separated. She planned to take my son away from me and move off to FL. Tim helped me put a stop to that immediately. We filed a motion for legitimation and custody, and that came with the added bonus of a standing order. So in response, my ex made some really nasty false allegations, and filed for a TPO. Her plan was to force me out of our sons life, get our standing order dropped, and have me locked up. This was the scariest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life. So I hired Tim to represent me for this as well. 30 days later when we got to the hearing, he turned her world upside down. The TPO was dismissed, the state had no case or potential to try and pursue pressing criminal charges, and we established a temporary parenting/custody arrangement until we could have a final hearing for the first case. I’d also like to add that I had to meet with an investigator three times because of all of the insanity mentioned above. Tim went with me each time and took care of everything. As the months went by, I was able to keep seeing my son two weekends a month, and FaceTime with him regularly. This kept us close, in touch, and prevented the need for a Guardian ad litem down the road. That saved me a LOT of money and time for our case. In June 2023, I got into a really bad car wreck. Tim offered to handle the personal injury case for me, and we were able to get a settlement for 60 K. In January 2024, I was in another car wreck …. So I asked Tim if he wanted to take care of another personal injury case for me. We’re still currently working through this case, but it’s looking promising with a settlement around 50 K. In June of 2024, we were finally able to make arrangements for mediation. In just 3 1/2 hours, Tim was able to get me almost everything I wanted, and my ex and I settled. During the entirety of everything Tim and I have faced together - 4 separate cases in 14 months, I haven’t had to speak to or answer questions from a judge one single time. This is EXACTLY how you want things to go in legal proceedings. This man literally saved my life, allowed me to keep my freedom, kept me in sons life, and has helped me win more $ then it cost me to do all of this. If you find yourself in some bad situations like I did, I recommend you give Tim a call. He was worth every dollar spent and helped me get through the most difficult time of my life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything Tim

Lee Fitzpatrick represented my son for a motion for new trial on a Aggravated assault. The witness recanted and also wrote a letter about her recanted and Fitzpatrick did not raise this issue along with alot more issues. This cause my son to not be able to raise these issues on appeal. I don't think he actually took time to read the briefs. We barely heard from him. I don't recommend his on criminal at all!!

Lee Fitzpatrick is hands down the best there is. He not only returned my call the same day, but it was after normal business hours and he talked with me and answered all of my questions in a patient and understanding way. I had not even hired him yet, but yet he gave me advice for the next steps he thought we should take. After I hired him, I was even more impressed by his vast legal knowledge, his ability to clearly get his point across in the court room and get the job done while remaining calm and respectful. Lee is honest and cares about truly helping people. If you're looking to hire an attorney, Lee Fitzpatrick is hands down, in my opinion, the best of the best!! I can't thank him enough for the amazing job he did on our case.

I was arrested in Cobb county on December 23rd and spent a total of 90 days incarcerated after writing Mr Forbes three letters, many text messages, had the circuit defender's office email him and talk to him one time in which he did not recall any of the conversation. I finally bailed out of jail which was my only option since he wouldn't visit me and I still have yet to speak to him. I then requested new representation which is now set me back even further so I would definitely not retain this attorney for any legal matter.

Two, yes two years ago I gave John Forbes $1400.00 to help with me getting visitation with my granddaughter in GA. At first he was attentive with phone calls only or text. Seven months latter, still no court date or phone calls I contact him and ask what can I do to expedite my case and I asked if he needed more money. I live in FL so he gave me his account number and I went down and deposited $500.00 more into his account. Since then I was told I had a court case, took time off from work, driving to Atlanta for my court date he text me and said that it was postponed and he would advise me when it was rescheduled. That call never happened, I told him this was ridiculous and I wanted my money back. Imagine my surprise when he refunded me $300.00, for what! I spoke with my family and they said to ask him to continue with the case due to him being familiar with the case and keeping the $1100.00 for whatever little thing he did. Then came covid.... He text me once to say he had covid and would get with me once he was over it. That was October 2020. I text him (he didn't answer his phone) on 11/23/2020 I text him that I was trying to be patient but was getting hard to do, no response. I text him again (still not answering phone)Feb 8, 2021 Asking if this was hi normal business practice, still no response. I text him again 3/15/2021 still no response. On March 17,2021 I text him one last time. At no point did I get any response from him, I even checked obituaries to make sure he did not succumb to covid and nope he did not. Still to this day 5/3/2021 I have yet to hear from him, I basically flushed 1900.00 down the drain for something as simple as getting to see my granddaughter who lives with her other grandparents. Since then I have on my own addressed the other grandparents, we pick my granddaughter up and go off for a few hours with no help from John Forbes. He talks a good game but a wolf in sheep's clothing.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
