Mrs. Sheila Gray, helped me with my divorce, and my divorce came with a lot of disfunction and dealing with difficult people. She handled all this with respect and grace. Mrs. Gray never left me out of the loop, and called me via phone or informed me via email, whenever there was any information she needed to relay to me. I am recommending her, and the law firm she represents, for anyone who needs legal representation. 100%, and five Stars, all day long . With gratitude 🙏🏽 Ina Amend

Horrible representation from this firm! If you just need a lawyer to sign paper work they might be the ones. If you have an actual need for civil or criminal representation look elsewhere. They don’t want to work they just want the easy way out.

I looked at many attorneys based in the Cheyenne area and decided to go with Beth, She has a great Resume and got many great reviews from colleagues. She also has broad knowledge of the law which is a plus. Well to be completely honest I am glad I hired her. Even though we live 1000 miles away she was genuinely caring and timely. By the time I had drove out there she had researched the specifics of the case and was able to help secure bond for my daughter even though the circumstances with the case were less than ideal. I hired Terry Harris several years ago to represent me in a Wyoming Workers Comp claim and he was okay. I just didn't feel like he really cared or that he put a lot of effort into my case. I want an attorney who is going to fight for me and do the very best they can!! When your hurt, not able to work, aren't getting paid and your life is going to be permanently changed its a serious thing. I felt like he could have fought harder for me and could have communicated more with me. Like I said he did okay on my case but he wasn't someone I was super impressed with.

I like to say, I had this lawyer when I was in my teens and she’s been good to me there’s times and I should’ve been gone. She kept me out. She’s been on my side ever since and I don’t got nothing bad to say about her her if she don’t get with you right then she will get to you you have to be patient. I believe Danielle Schumacher was an amazing attorney for my case. I had a divorce with children that involved a lot of animosity between myself and my ex. Danielle did not just advocate for my case but she also helped counsel me through the process. Divorces are an emotional and trying time and Danielle couldn't have been more supportive, and fight hard for me to get what I wanted out of this case. I was scarred I was going to lose all relationships with my children and through Danielle's expertise and experience, we were able to settle our case to benefit not only myself and my ex but most importantly our kids. I would highly recommend Danielle to anyone who asked for an attorney dealing with family law.

This man misrepresented himself as a seasoned Criminal Trial Attorney. He was paid close to 100,000 dollars and after 21 months to prepare for my son's trial, he was not prepared, did not have knowledge of the case facts, forensics, or witness statements from prosecution witnesses. At least 4 main witnesses for the prosecution had made multiple statements, none of which were consistent. Witness statements were not even consistent with one another, even after admittedly being prepped by the prosecution team. When we asked questions in regards to his negligence in questioning these witnesses about these inconsistencies, Mr. Fix had no answer. When the prosecution presented false information as to my son's expert jujitsu training and his involvement in professional football, he did not even ask for their proof of these claims. When approached again as to why he was not bringing anything into question, he became angry, upset and brought up money, the fact that we had not paid him enough to give this case his undivided attention or to hire anyone to help. My son was accused of 1st degree murder, he was to present a self defense case. Mr. Fix had ignored or was completely ignorant of forensic evidence that could have been presented but never was. He had this information pointed out to him during trial and was questioned by his client as to why he was not questioning any of the statement inconsistencies by the prosecution's witnesses, false allegations made by the prosecution and his dereliction of duty in presenting evidence, he had in front of him, during the trial. This was once again answered with yelling and anger toward his client. Mr. Fix was waiting for a plea my son would except. A plea was never considered by my son or our family. There was ample evidence to support self defense. However, Mr Fix informed me, after the first day of trial, if my son received a Second Degree Murder verdict, then he felt he did his job. The promised Private Investigator and Use of Force Expert, paid for, never materialized. One witness was called by the defense during trial, the defendant, my son. Trial took a whole four days, including jury selection. I have been told by legal experts in the State of Wyoming that my son did not even receive a $5 defense by Mr. Fix. 21 months and 100,000 dollars, of which we have yet to receive any documentation of billable hours, was completely wasted. Right before trial Mr. Fix was busy, not working on the case but purchasing his new home in Hawaii! The money, my mother's retirement, was not all that was lost. My son is now wrongfully imprisoned. Money is gone and immediately after trial so was Bill Fix. I have requested documentation for billable hours, Private Investigator and proof of due diligence. Only to receive one email asking for my address. Two years after trial and still nothing!! Shame on anyone who will readily and with intent take advantage of a family dealing with the legal and justice system for the first time. My son had NEVER been in any trouble, served his country in the Air Force with pride. With his future at stake, we mistakenly believed, trusted and counted on Bill Fix to do the job either he wasn't capable of doing or just didn't want to spend the time to do. Who knows how many years my son will have to pay for this huge error in judgment and very misplaced trust!

I was referred to Bob Horn in March 2014. I hired him to represent my son who was pulled over in Wyoming for speeding and having a small amount of marijuana....(I live in a different state). My son was incarcerated until a bond could be delivered. I spoke with Bob who made promises about meeting with my son personally at a particular time and arranging for his bail. Bob failed to let me know that at the time of our initial conversation, he was vacationing in South America...as a result, he did not not make it back in time to meet my son or to arrange for his release on a timely basis. My son spent an extra 1-2 days in jail as a result. I tried on several occasions to reach Bob after our initial conversation(s) only to find out that he was traveling. After repeated calls to his office, I was directed to his son (also an attorney), who was backing up his father from a different state! Upon arriving back in Wyoming, Bob informed me that his office was actually in a different city and that delivering a bond for my son's release would require driving an extra 3 hours to deliver the bond. Despite his tardiness and broken promis(es) Bob thought it best to charge his full hourly rate just for driving! As soon as my son was released, we fired Bob Horn and found much more competent representation. I am incensed that Bob Horn was not forthright with us during our initial conversation. Traveling from South America, he was never in a position to meet with my son at the time that he promised. My son sat in jail much longer than necessary because of Bob. My sense is that Bob needed the business and didn't think it best to refer us to representation (in close proximity to my son) that could respond in a timely, effective manner. We did however, find excellent representation and would strongly recommend hiring someone other than Bob Horn.

Not good!!!! Get your own attorney anyway that you can. Especially if you are DISABLED. And/or this is your first mistake. My opinion; this attorney has no interest in your case or you. He will insist you take a plea even if they have documents proving you innocent, then lie to the judge about what he did.... The Sweetwater court system is completely different than anywhere I've lived in this state. No compassion for people with disabilities, definitely not ethical, public defender. Messed up paperwork on the case was the only thing that was consistent. (kangaroo court). Public defender was rude, refused to Cooperate with the guardian. Talked to us like we were complete idiots. I regret ever moving to a place with so little integrity in the city center. Do go with a private attorney! (not from the area) or insist on the head public defender. If it smells rotten it usually is. Rocksprings government will always be what it has always been.

When confronted he said we were free to get another lawyer and he might get it done by mid September. We need the settlement to pay for her services and to relieve her debts. Woodhouse represented a family member "Sue" in a discrimination case where the employer attempted to back pedal a propsal to fire Sue on false allegations by creating a new job for her. The employer was trying to force Sue to accept the job without reading through the description or understanding the role. Sue's lawyer pushed for Sue to sign as well unaware of the job as well. Sue trusted her lawyer and signed, only to find out later that the job entailed the work load of 2 people and included responsibilities similar to that of a janitor. Woodhouse clearly did not look out for what was in the best interest of her client and allowed the employer to strong arm the client into a disadvantaged position, and then she quit as her representative.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
