Tim was very responsive to my messages that made him stand out in front of others attorneys. He answered all my questions. It was only after speaking to him that I felt better about what was going on with my case. He is very knowledgeable, patient and kind. I would rate more than 5 stars if I could. Bless what you do for others, it is appreciated!! I didnt hire Tim becasue he helped me find another avenue to take that made more sense. Thank you Tim !

Best people to work with, they make sure that you are informed about whats going on with your case. Highly consumer service. They handled my case from A to Z. I had to deal with Ford for more than 6 months, they kept telling me it’s not a lemon car and the lady was super rude on the phone trying to convince me that the truck isn’t a lemon. Steven and his team proved it wrong with less than a month. Highly recommended and they are experts, trust me they will never waste your time.

I can't thank Consumer Legal Services enough, especially Steve and Ashley, for their incredible support and expertise. I bought a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, and just a week after taking it out of the dealership, I started having numerous electrical problems that they couldn’t fix. I was stuck with this problematic truck for over a year and felt completely helpless. Thankfully, I found Consumer Legal Services. Steve and Ashley took on my case with determination and professionalism. They kept me informed every step of the way and fought tirelessly on my behalf. Thanks to their hard work, I not only got all my money back but also received additional compensation for the trouble I went through. If you’re ever in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to reach out to Consumer Legal Services. Steve and Ashley are the best! They turned a frustrating experience into a positive outcome, and I’m truly grateful for their help.

This firm has been a pleasure to work with. They do not go into anything blind. Stuart Collis is always very prepared when the date comes. He has been a blessing in more ways than just representing my case. He is very humble and clearly knows how to do his job. Friendly and very curtious of my needs as a client. He is patient but strikes like a snake when the truth needs to be told. I can honestly say I am very satisfied with the entire office staff. They definitely make you feel like family.

I was referred to Anjali by a close acquaintance, and I couldn’t be more grateful. She is a consummate professional—kind, gracious, and humble. During a stressful and scary time, her calm demeanor and expertise provided a tremendous sense of comfort. She is not only an excellent lawyer but also someone who genuinely cares about her clients. Her competence and attention to detail were evident every step of the way. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of legal assistance.

This law firm employs an outstanding attorney named Rachel Dornbush. She is articulate, effective and qualified in her particular area of practice. there is far more to the Paletz practice than its extraordinary success at landlord-tenant law: there is the commitment and passion that Matthew Paletz brings not just to the matters, but to a fundamental belief in property rights. He has a classic American perspective on private property that should be a standard value for everyone but has faded in recent years. Mr. Paletz carries a critical flag and I feel relieved that he has the energy and the knowledge to keep the courts and the policy makers honest.

I never felt he had our best interests in mind. He was always clueless on our case which caused misguided responses on his part and ours - our bankruptcy has been drawn out for months because he doesn't listen or review anything. He will send you an email a mile long but hates to answer the phone and he never reaches out first, you always have to pester him to get an answer and even then he steers you in the wrong direction. He makes it seem like bankruptcy will be an easy process, even after reviewing our information and completing the forms, he made it seem like it would be cut and dry, it definitely hasn't been and we don't even know if we will get a discharge now. Never once did he prepare us for what we are going through now, so frustrated. He may have been a good lawyer but he must have lost his touch. Impersonal, Unreliable, Incompetent.

Mr. Darish was very professional. When I first contacted him, he was quick to respond and we had an appointment schedule that week. Issue was, when I moved out of state we tried to sell our house, the house did not sell so the bank foreclosed. We started to get collection calls after twelve years. Therefore, I contacted Mr. Darish. During the consultation, he explained the process of a foreclosure and answered any questions I had. After the consultation, Mr. Darish did some research and contacted me. I was extremely happy with the results. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a lawyer, look no further. Thanks, Mr. Darish

Mr. Darish is very professional, yet still maintains a tender, human side. He even laughed at some of my dumb jokes. Overall, he made me feel very comfortable and supported. I was worried about filing bankruptcy in that I thought I would be judged, but this was never the case. I picked him out of the yellow pages, because he just "looked" like a good man. I stayed with him as an attorney, because he IS a good man. I would highly recommend him to anyone that is trying to find someone to represent their case that is fair, compassionate and who will work with you in a timely manner. Thanks so much Allan!

Will not use Aaron Cox again. The first time was okay, but the second time was bad. He did not know about right to farm law and he put Carie Z on my case. She at least listened to me but still didn't know about right to farm law. She came to court looking like she was going to a beach party, not very professional. The billing was weird and he charged me a monthly rate for my case.

This law firm is used heavily as a collection agency. As a representative of an employer who was subpoenaed in a garnishment, they do not have positive report. The details in the documents were not accurate, as my documents were rejected at the county level. After a phone call with the Law Group, I was assured they would assist the company as it was their error to not have the directions clearly stated in the legal documents. That did not happen and I received an email stating it would not happen. I sincerely hope no other small business has to endure this level of unprofessionalism.

As I sit hear reading these reviews I realize I am not the ONLY one. He never returned my phone calls and when he was called out on it stated he did. My son was incarcerated and was complaining he had not met with him and called several times. I know he did because I put money on the phone. When I called him out on this said very aggressively...your son has never called. I know the jail number and it isn’t on my phone. The next day he did go to the jail and talked with hi. For a few minutes through the jail telephone, didn’t even use the attorney/client room. He was flat out rude to me and my son, lied flat out in court, ane once we got rid of him, surprisingly showed up for my sons sentencing. My sons case was at 830 in the morning.....Feldman had NO OTHER CASES UNTIL 1030:::::but watched with a smirk on his face while he was sentenced to prison! Hmmmm? Can’t call you back but has time to sit in a hearing he isn’t even involved with! My dealings with Mr Feldman are NOT OVER!!

Mr. Nicholas J Bachand accomplished nothing besides draining our bank account in order to bring more money to the Lucido Law Firm. When I first met with him during the initial free consult he was very interested in explaining his fees than gathering details of my case. Right on the spot after about five minutes in the conversation he asked me If I wanted to pursue my case and charged me a $1500 retainer. After $1500, it was a $1000 then $500 and continuing on. He did not accomplish any positive changes in court but instead was very smart on canceling meetings and/or postponing hearings in order to charge more fees. After 2-3 trips to the court I realized that I chose the worst lawyer in that firm, and that he was so incompetent with no knowledge of the law. He also was giving confidential information to the opposite lawyer and when in court I was paying him to chat with the other lawyer or to be the referees assistant. We would agree on certain conditions and compromises in the case but when in court he would state another decision, leaving me clueless on what to say in front of judge/referee. He was rude, not available and a waste of money. I guess he only has the word "lawyer" on his diploma that he has in his pseudo office. His skills as a lawyer were horrible, he seemed like a messenger boy, an extremely expensive crappy one. I was keeping my promise and always paid him when I received his invoices (actually overpaid the amount owed-He would charge me to the stamp placed on the envelope REALLY??).I would receive communication and invoices of other clients (with all of their personal and case information: where is the PRIVACY LAW here); in his defense he would tell me that his secretary was guilty for those incidents. I then decided to take matters in my own hands due to his terrible attitude and laziness. I told him he was fired, and after my paid in full balance I ended up receiving more charges for hours never worked, but in his own sneaky and fraud ways he accomplished to find some forgotten charges. Unless you like squandering money and not getting any tangible results that you could have gotten for the price of Fake Lawyer, the ones you find on TV, I would NOT RECOMMEND him, EVER., not even to my worst enemy. He is horrible as a person and as a lawyer.

The lawyer we dealt with at this firm, Nicholas J Bachand, was a complete waste of a nearly a thousand dollars. He accomplished nothing but the draining our bank account. We were referred to him by the Macomb County Bar association, big mistake. Seems that they only give the name of somebody near you, not a recommendation. We could have easily made a better choice by picking somebody at random out of the phone book. When I first met with him during the initial free consult I thought he seemed like a real jerk. My wife said that is what we need. The problem is we thought he would be an jerk to person we were in a legal dispute with, not to us. Wrong again Bob. First thing he did was print up a Power of Attorney form letter, and charged us a $500 retainer for doing that. He claimed he had trouble getting in touch with the party we had a dispute with, again another load of baloney. I say this because once I decided to take matters into my own hands I had ZERO trouble getting in touch with them. He charged us for what he said was an attempt to negotiate a lower settlement. His negotiation amounted to "my client is willing pay this". That isn't a negotiation, that's being a messenger boy, an extremely expensive crappy one. He called after we cut contact with him because we decided to take matters in our own hands due to his terrible attitude and laziness. I told him he was fired, and lo and behold he charged us to fire him. Unless you like squandering money and not getting any tangible results that you could have gotten for the price of a Legal Zoom Legal Form Letter, I would hardily not recommend him, EVER. This is my opinion, I suggest you heed it.

Lindsey at Barkow Law was retained for a legal matter for our family, the first legal matter we have ever been involved in so we were unaware of processes, hence the reason for retaining legal representation. We had asked a question about a process and we were told to “relax for now”, which I don’t believe is any sort of legal advice nor did it touch on any questions we had asked but, nonetheless, we relaxed. After three weeks of complete silence, I reached out again to see if I could get any sort of update on what I asked previously. I was met with complete silence, again. After over 24 hours with zero update, I sent an email outlining my frustrations with zero communications from our hired (and paid) law firm. Instead of answering the concerns we had tried to get clarity on for well over a month, she sent an email saying she was terminating us because she didn’t like hearing my frustrations with their lack of work and communication. All she had to say to us was that lawyers are busy, insinuating the rest of the population doesn’t hold a job or have prior commitments that make them busy. Overall, Lindsey was a very condescending lawyer who was unwilling to take care of or address what we paid the firm to do. I wish we hadn’t wasted so much of our time hoping for a better outcome from her, but we tried to give them a chance since they are fairly green lawyers and it wasn’t a complex case. I hope she is able to grow as an attorney and work on better communication skills that have been laid out, in various reviews from others who have dealt with the same frustrations as us, to better serve those who hire her because she probably has great potential if she were to take the time to correctly address matters pertaining to her job.

Granted his wife helped my bf out however, they do not return calls, do not call client prior to court hearings, the only time we would hear from them is when they wanted their money. Tried charging more than we owed. Paid $180 more than we were suppose to and he kept putting us off with excuses that he would check the records and get back Not only did he just not contact us he did not bother to give us the money back that he owes us. Good thing we kept track or he would have kept charging us like he was trying to do. Full of excuses. Never did get our money back & he refused to contact us back or even give us our money back.

What a Debt Collection Lawyer Can Do for You

A debt collection lawyer helps individuals and businesses navigate legal matters related to debt collection. Whether you’re a creditor seeking to recover unpaid debts or a debtor facing aggressive collection actions, a debt collection lawyer can provide valuable assistance. These lawyers help creditors pursue legal action to collect overdue debts and ensure compliance with debt collection laws. On the debtor’s side, they help defend against unlawful collection practices, negotiate repayment plans, or file for bankruptcy if necessary.

If you’re dealing with a debt collection issue, a lawyer can ensure your rights are protected and work toward a resolution that aligns with your financial or business needs.

When Should I Hire a Debt Collection Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a debt collection lawyer if you are facing any of the following situations:

  • For Creditors:
    • Unpaid debts: If you’re a creditor (such as a business or individual) with unpaid invoices, loans, or accounts receivable, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action to recover the debt.
    • Debtor refuses to pay: When a debtor is unwilling or unable to make payments, a lawyer can assist with filing lawsuits, securing judgments, and enforcing those judgments to collect the debt.
    • Negotiating repayment plans: If you’re willing to work with a debtor to arrange a payment plan, a lawyer can negotiate and draft a legally enforceable agreement.
    • Legal representation in court: If a debtor disputes the debt or countersues, a lawyer can represent you in court and ensure your legal interests are protected.
    • Securing liens or garnishments: A lawyer can help you secure liens on a debtor’s property or garnishments on their wages to recover the owed debt.
  • For Debtors:
    • Facing debt collection lawsuits: If you’ve been sued by a creditor or collection agency, a lawyer can represent you in court and help you defend against the claim or negotiate a settlement.
    • Debt collection harassment: If creditors or debt collection agencies are harassing you or violating your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), a lawyer can help stop the harassment and potentially sue for damages.
    • Negotiating debt settlements: If you owe a significant amount of money but want to avoid bankruptcy, a lawyer can negotiate with creditors to reduce the total amount owed or set up a payment plan.
    • Disputing a debt: If you believe a debt is incorrect or have been wrongfully targeted by debt collectors, a lawyer can help you dispute the claim and provide evidence to resolve the matter.
    • Bankruptcy options: If your debts are overwhelming and you’re unable to repay them, a debt collection lawyer can help you explore bankruptcy as an option for debt relief.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help you protect your financial interests and avoid escalating legal issues.

What Does a Debt Collection Lawyer Do?

A debt collection lawyer provides a variety of services depending on whether they are representing the creditor or the debtor. Their responsibilities often include:

  • For Creditors:
    • Filing lawsuits: A lawyer can file a lawsuit against a debtor who has failed to pay what they owe. This includes preparing and submitting legal documents, representing you in court, and pursuing judgments.
    • Negotiating settlements: If the debtor is willing to settle, the lawyer can negotiate a payment arrangement or reduced settlement that ensures you recover some or all of the debt.
    • Securing judgments and enforcement: After obtaining a court judgment, a lawyer can help enforce it through methods like wage garnishment, bank levies, or property liens.
    • Reviewing contracts and agreements: A lawyer can review your contracts and lending agreements to ensure that they comply with the law and are enforceable if a debtor defaults.
  • For Debtors:
    • Defending against debt collection lawsuits: If you’re being sued by a creditor, a lawyer can challenge the lawsuit, dispute the debt’s validity, or negotiate a more favorable settlement.
    • Stopping harassment: If debt collectors are using unlawful practices to collect a debt (such as threatening you or contacting you excessively), a lawyer can intervene and protect your rights.
    • Negotiating debt relief: A lawyer can negotiate with creditors to reduce the total amount of debt you owe or develop a manageable payment plan that suits your financial situation.
    • Disputing inaccurate debts: If a debt is not valid, a lawyer can help you gather evidence to dispute the claim and prevent further collection actions.
    • Filing for bankruptcy: If your debts are overwhelming, a lawyer can advise you on whether filing for bankruptcy is the best option and help you through the process.

How Are Debt Collection Lawyers Paid?

Debt collection lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways depending on the complexity of the case and whether they represent a creditor or debtor. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many debt collection lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity. Hourly fees are common when the lawyer is representing either party in litigation or negotiation.
  • Contingency fee: For creditors, some lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover the debt. Their fee is typically a percentage of the recovered amount, usually ranging from 20% to 40%.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as reviewing a contract, drafting a demand letter, or defending a straightforward debt collection lawsuit, a lawyer may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For larger or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer fee ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected duration.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation and understand the total cost of their services before proceeding with your case.

How Much Does a Debt Collection Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a debt collection lawyer depends on whether you are a creditor or debtor, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Most debt collection lawyers charge between $150 and $500 per hour. Complex cases involving litigation or large amounts of money may result in higher legal fees.
  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, they typically charge between 20% and 40% of the recovered amount. For example, if you recover $10,000 and the contingency fee is 30%, the lawyer would take $3,000.
  • Flat fees: For simpler services like drafting a demand letter or responding to a debt collection lawsuit, flat fees may range from $500 to $2,500, depending on the work required.
  • Retainers: For larger or ongoing cases, a lawyer may require a retainer fee ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the case and the expected duration.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to avoid surprises and ensure that the services fit your budget.

Top Questions to Ask a Debt Collection Lawyer

Before hiring a debt collection lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with debt collection cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether you’re a creditor or debtor.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, on a contingency fee basis, or a flat fee, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Debt collection cases can take time, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last, from filing the claim to recovering the debt or resolving the dispute.
  5. What are my legal rights?
Ask the lawyer to explain your rights as a creditor or debtor, including protections under laws like the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Debt Collection Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable debt collection lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for debt collection experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in debt collection law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and ability to handle debt collection cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on debt collection matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in organizations like the National Creditors Bar Association (NCBA) or other relevant associations that focus on debt collection law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a debt collection lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • For Creditors:
    • List of outstanding debts: Bring a detailed list of the debts owed to you or your business, including invoices, contracts, or other supporting documentation.
    • Previous communication with the debtor: Provide copies of any emails, letters, or phone call logs showing attempts to collect the debt.
    • Contracts or agreements: Bring any contracts or agreements related to the debt, as they may be critical in proving your case.
    • Judgment information (if applicable): If you’ve already obtained a court judgment against the debtor, bring the judgment documents and any enforcement attempts.
  • For Debtors:
    • Debt collection letters or notices: Bring any correspondence from creditors or collection agencies, including demand letters and collection notices.
    • Payment records: Provide proof of any payments made toward the debt, including receipts, canceled checks, or bank statements.
    • Debt validation or dispute documentation: If you’ve disputed the debt or requested validation, bring copies of the dispute letters and the creditor’s response.
    • Legal summons or lawsuit documentation: If you’re facing a lawsuit, bring the court summons, complaint, and any legal documents related to the case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
