I cannot recommend The Reed Law Firm highly enough! While Mr. Reed represented me though a detinue case and Mrs. Reed represented me in my divorce, the firm as a whole worked together like a family.
I was so impressed with their expertise and unwavering support and commitment throughout the entire process.
From my first consultation with Mr. Reed, when I was distressed and in need of help, I felt listened to and reassured. I was really vulnerable, not knowing anything about the law and he provided clear, strategic advice specific to my situation. The most encouraging feeling from that initial call was that he was being realistic and upfront about what would lie ahead- legally and financially.
Mr. Reed was like a superhero when it came time to appear in court. He really fought for me. Out of a bad situation, he got me the best possible result.
After that case was over, it was time to move on to my divorce. That is when Mrs. Reed began representing me and I felt guided through every step. Brandon is a personable and intelligent attorney. I hired him to be my divorce lawyer. It was a difficult and contentious divorce. Even though I personally like Brandon I cannot recommend him if you have a high net worth and are receiving military and civil service benefits. Brandon had many clients which adversely impacted his availability to work on my complicated case. Brandon was unable to negotiate an in-house separation agreement, which cost me money in home expenses and left me exposed to shenanigans from my wife and her attorney. He also did not seek a legal remedy for the inequitable payment of home expenses. Consequently, as a retiree I carried the full financial load for maintaining the house. Brandon was unable to bring the opposition to the negotiation table. I had to email my spouse with an offer. In November 2022 we finally reached a settlement. I suspect that Brandon was unavailable during a portion of November, which delayed sending the divorce documents to the court and pushed the divorce into 2023. That delay cost me thousands of dollars in additional Federal and state income taxes. Even though Brandon was unable to bring the opposition to the negotiating table he advocated using an expensive meditator.

We interviewed several attorneys prior to retaining Mr. Waltrip. We found him to be down to Earth, humble, and respectful; but truthful and frank. He listened to our story with sympathy and sensitivity.
He was completely realistic and reasonably managed our expectations. Also, he offered some novel suggestions about how we could conduct the case.
Another great benefit was the fact that he lived in and knew the county in which our case was to be heard and he was familiar with both the judge and the opposing counsel.
During the run up to the trial date, he and his staff were communicative and responsive to our questions. He kept us hopeful but realistic. He and his paralegal continued to be kind and polite.
On the day of the trial, he was prepared and organized (not in the most traditional way). I must admit I was concerned watching his notetaking style, however when it came time to question and cross-examine, his mind was sharp and his words were articulate, clear, and hard-hitting. It was fun to watch.
He had the passion of a competitive athlete and was hungry for victory. He jabbed, parried, and then closed for a knockout. He left the opposition flummoxed and completely outplayed. We didn't even need to call our witnesses.
The preparation for and the experience of court was arduous and sometimes painful, but the outcome was as good as we could have expected.
I am grateful to Mr. Waltrip and would recommend him without prejudice or reservation.

We used McCarthy and Akers for two of our house closings (selling and buying), and we were very impressed by their professionalism, friendliness, and willingness to explain each step of the process. And when our buyer’s title company had made an error on the buyer’s documents, McCarthy and Akers caught it and got everything squared out with them before we signed the paperwork.
We were so impressed that my wife and I came back to them when we decided to make our wills. Doug McCarthy, Dan Mitchell, and their team made the process extremely simple and explained all of our options that made it very easy to understand. We filled out a small packet ahead of time to give them pertinent information, and when we came for our initial meeting, Doug and Dan were prepared, and we were able to go through all the necessary information in 30 minutes. They had refreshments for us as well to top it all off! I recommend McCarthy and Akers to my family and friends, and I would do the same for anyone who needs the services they have to offer.

Ben Brasfield took my case and when it was all over he said something to the effect of, “If you’re willing to outwork the other side things will go your way”… or something like that…He’s definitely not lazy! It wasn’t advice for me, it was a general statement of how he prepped to take the case, but I still think about that. He’s smart, strategic, thorough, and experienced. I watched Mr. Leiva go way above and beyond for a very close family member the first time I ever met him. Throughout the entire process he stayed in touch with my family to let us know what was going on at all times this was in 2002 in a federal court room.
In 2012 Mr. Leiva was called by my family again for what was a very very weak case but very very serious charges and accusations he treated as if it were like any other case that he puts hrs and hrs of work witch is very highly appreciated. You most definitely want his brilliant and savvy mind on your side 100%.
I had issue with Mr. Leiva and of course with a mind as brilliant as his it doesn’t come cheap, nor should it but after spending as much as my family did throughout the years one would like to think I can give this family a break. Like I stated my family has been relying on Mr Leiva since 2002 for a wide range of cases, knowing my family’s personal situation I just would have thought that just maybe he would be a bit more understanding when it came to the amount of money that was spent especially in my case .
With that said I’d recommend him to loved ones without hesitation, he’s simply on a different level!
10/10 without a doubt!

I first came across Mr. Foltz at the courthouse where I was struggling to get out of a very difficult eviction case for my tenants, who not only refuse to leave our premises, but also assaulted and threatened my family and I. Mr. Foltz overheard my conversation with the court clerk and offered to help. He introduced himself and asked me to explain the situation, which I did. He immediately assured me that he will be willing to help. We discussed his fee, which was out of my budget so he offered to take the case at no charge. He understood how stressful my situation seemed and wanted to help. I was truly shocked and grateful. Since then, he maintained in contact with me and walked me through the process every step of the way. He also appeared to all the court dates with me and not once made me feel that he was doing me a favor by taking my case at no charge. My disabled boyfriend who had been separated since 2016 but fighting for his life against cancer since sept 2019 was finally well enough to finish his non-contested divorce. He use Zack. Nice man BUT he did not keep his word on anything!! Not only were we charged DOUBLE the max price he quoted but it took SIX months (he told us 45 days) for a divorce that was already filed (wordage was wrong in paperwork) AND he MAILED in the final decree. Everything was LOST in the mail which is why we had to ask WHY it hadn't gotten to the court plus we were charged a second time for him to redo the paperwork he lost, he stated it wasn't his fault!! Well we had instructed him the we would take the paperwork to the courts in the beginning and for him to CC myself on all emails, so nothing would get missed. Neither was done. So one star. Do better!!!!

John did seem to provide information that related to the viability of a case we are looking to litigate, however, after we experienced a death in the family and turned back to him for actual representation in a wrongful-death case, he blew us off completely. Months later, out of sheer morbid curiosity did I ask if he was still in business and he replied that he had relocated a few miles away and thus "could not take any cases in the Falls Church area." He says he's still in business, but he will not take cases in northern Virginia or even speak with potential clients. What a waste. We really did need someone who could fight for his client in a very winnable case.

I was a former client of attorney John Griffin. However, I do not share the positive experience commented by other reviewers of this attorney. I hired Mr. Griffin to handle a consumer debt collection case in Montgomery County, Maryland this year. I was the plaintiff in the case. I brought him to assist me in my case after I pursued my case as a pro se for about six months. I thought it was beneficial to involve a counsel especially since the defendant was one of belligerent and uncooperative. In any case, I hired him about two months before trial of my case. So, I did not have time to do the required due diligence on the attorney’s legal caliber. In this regard, I solely and exclusively relied from Avvo.com reviews on the attorney. I was encouraged when I read other clients’ feedback about the attorney. Unfortunately, my experience turned out to be the contrary. Here are the main reasons why this is the case.
Mr. Griffin initially informed me about his “free initial consultation”. However, in a rush against time, I forgot what I learned in my Economics class years ago and that “there is no free lunch, after all!”. At the beginning of what appeared as initial consultation, he asked me to provide him all the documents that I worked on the case via email. After he thoroughly reviewed these documents, he drafted a retainer agreement to pursue the case. It is also after he assured me that I had a case. Be that as it may, a couple of days after this initial “free” consultation, I also mailed him the hardcopies of all the same materials provided to him earlier. Meanwhile, he sent me a bill statement incorporating the time he has purportedly spent to reviewing the documents that I provided him during the “free” initial consolation”. What kind of attorney would charge you back for the “free” initial consultation that he promised in the first place? My honest answer is simply: only an unscrupulous one! I come from a “buyer beware” state from across the river: VIRGINIA. However, I made a judgement mistake and ended up an inexperienced counsel. Regarding handling of my legal case, I am not sure if Mr. Griffin is as knowledgeable about the law as any average attorney, either. As to myself, I am educated, but not in the realm of legal matters. Still, I had to direct him to do things that he should have already known. Later, he kept charging me for duplicate line items and for things that I have asked him not to pursue, and other excessive fees to handling my case. On the day of the trial, among other things: the presiding judge was upset with him for not following up with the opposing counsel; he watched me being grilled by the opposing counsel and remained silent without raising any objection even if things call for such; failed to properly examine the defendant and his witness…etc. My experience with Mr. Griffin is that he not only overcharges for things he may/may not have worked for, but he was careless in handling my case. And, that is the reason I had asked him to withdraw from my case. I am not a happy camper about this experience at all. Consumer beware with this attorney!

I sought Dale on a consumer matter with my mortgage company. I contacted him on the recommendation of another lawyer. Dale talked me into not joining a class action lawsuit in which I would have received $200. He agreed to take my case so I opted out of class action suit. Well as soon as I opted out and notified the person in charge of the class action suit that I was opting out of it, Dale Pittman stopped talking to me and never returned my calls or responded to my emails again. I left messages with his assistant and he never called me. Did not respond to emails. Did not have the decency to refer me to someone else if he had changed his mind about my case. I think he is unprofessional for doing this to me.

I came to Mr. Mettler with my child custody case. As a client of his and single mother of 2 small children, I highly recommend him. All good attorneys are very busy but he always came through as needed. Not only is he well knowledgeable about the law, he was always compassionate and empathetic to my situation. I never felt that Mr. Mettler was “out to take my money”. In fact I feel the opposite. Throughout my case I feel Mr. Mettler did everything he could to keep my case as cost effective as possible. We do have a choice to "shop around" or interview at least 2 or 3 distinct professionals so we can make an informed decision for ourselves, and in this process for me, Mr. David Mettler stood out right away. I would strongly suggest that anyone going thru a divorce to seek counsel ANYWHERE else than hiring David Mettler as your attorney. After over a year and close to ten thousand dollars later, no progress has been made. He is consistently at least 45 minutes late to every appointment as well as unable to ever call you at all when you've made a phone conference. He will and continued to go around your wishes to extend a case just to bill you more and rack up your legal fees. He is extremely arrogant for someone who clearly knows minimal in divorce cases. Do yourself a service and hire any other attorney other than David Mettler.

My landlord was trying to impose rather harsh lease termination conditions on me during the Covid crisis, when I needed to leave the area, had no intention to extend my contract and was trying to find ways out of a complicated and stressful situation. Mr. Patish was very knowledgable about the requirements of the law, and presented the legal side of the issue in great detail, pointing to the appropriate sources and links. He walked me through this difficult situation with advice that was really instrumental for finding a solution acceptable to the landlord. He did this with minimal resources that I was able to allocate for legal advice, including providing complementary feedback, following up with the issue, and making sure that I was on the right track. He has really broken my stereotypes about lawyers with his human and fair-minded approach!

Mr. Patish agreed to represent me in a landlord - tenant dispute. I was seeking damages for a failure to maintain a habitable premises. The facts and evidence were all in my favor and Mr. Patish agreed to represent me at a reasonable price.
The property owner had been cited by city inspectors more than once and failed to fully comply with the citations in a timely manner. Within the first few minutes of the trial, the defendants counsel stated that if judgement was in my favor, they would appeal the case. The judge wished me good luck and said he had no choice but to send the matter to a higher court.
Immediatley after the trial, Mr. Patish, my wife and I went to lunch, (on us of course) during which he explained that it would cost a minimum of $5,000. more for him to represent me in the next phase. His advice was to go to court without him. Seriously! He calmly explained that the judge would listen to the facts, that I did not need a lawyer since I was so familiar with the case, had audio recordings, video, photographs and violation notices that had been served on the property owner.
Nothing went according to Mr. Patish's advice. The judge informed me that he had read the lease and asked me to present my case. The star whitness was one of the three city inspectors that had visited the property on numerous occasions and filed the code violations. This inspector testified that he could not remember the facts, didn't bring his paperwork to court and had lost the video evidence I had given to him.
The judge, contrary to what Mr. Patish had advised me, would not let me offer any testimony. He would not listen to the audio recordings nor view the videos. There was no choice except to stop presenting evidence. At this point the defendant's attorney made a statement that there was no lease entered into evidence, (despite the judge having stated that he had the lease in his hands and had read it) therefore there was no obligation for the property owner to present his case.
He asked for dismissal and that's exactly what happened. I couldn't even get my security deposit refunded even though the property was flawlessly spotless, freshly painted and in much better condition than when I took possession. This added insult to injury, costing me another $1,450.00!
All of this is relevant to my review of this lawyer because he told me what I should do. He insisted that the judge would listen to the evidence. He accepted my money for the first trial, then abandoned the case. He left us with nothing but very bad worthless "advice". This was how two years of stress ended.
Here is my advice for anyone looking for a lawyer in the Norfolk or Virginia Beach area. Pay whatever it costs to hire an attorney that won't abandon you while telling you that you can represent yourself. That is pure rubbish. The lesson I learned? Looking for a reasonably priced lawyer is comparable to shopping for a discount brain surgeon.

Hampton Roads… this is long overdue and I do apologize, but I do want to say back in 2008, my husband and I, we were in a terrible car accident, on Highway 58 in Virginia, my husband was driving a red car came out in front of us and hasn’t swerve from hitting the right vehicle. The vehicle never stopped and attract. The trailer had hit us a long story short my husband was in a coma. He was air VAC to Sentera hospital and off, and I was also hospitalized for three days.
