I never expected to need a criminal defense attorney, but when I did, a quick Google search lead me to David Freidberg. After a consultation I decided to hire him and it turned out to be an excellent decision. After firing my first attorney who literally took my 10K retainer and advised me to "plead guilty, sell your house and move," boy am I glad I stumbled across Mr. Klein. I didn't know about AVVO at the time, but real client reviews are probably the best way to judge a potential attorney.
By the time I hired Mr. Klein on several convoluted and grossly exaggerated matters that had ballooned out of hand, which included OOP and VOOP, he was able to get the OOP vacated and VOOPs dismissed, which seemed initially like an impossible task, especially since the original attorney bungled the case so badly and several months had elapsed.
In the end, I received court supervision for one separate case, with all others dismissed.
About Mr. Klein's style: He's a great communicator. Available, responsive, patient, and explains things in detail (and many of the details can easily get confusing). Sometimes he gets gruff or short when he is in the middle of fighting hard for your case, so trust that he is placing his energy where it needs to go and will get back to you later to explain the finer details.
A word about pricing: A friend advised me, be wary of attorneys who charge you by the hour, because you can't really know how much time they have actually spent on the case. I found this out the hard way, when my original attorney kept over 3K of my original retainer, after doing pretty much nothing on my cases. Mr. Klein in contrast offered transparent pricing, telling me exactly what his cost was for each matter in full, and additional fees if the case went to bench trial vs. jury trial (it didn't.)
If you have any pending criminal matter and need a great attorney, I unequivocally recommend Steve Klein!

Jonas Hwang is newly representing my ex-husband in our post decree divorce case. I am ProSe.
Eventhough I informed him about my ex husband's health condition, which prevents him to make sane financial and personal decisions, Mr.Hwang has not taken it (yet) in consideration and has not stopped taking an unethical advantage of my ex husband's illness, to make profit on our sad family situation. My ex, our 2 children and I have been subjected to this treatment for the past 7 years from different attorneys. Mr.Hwang himself is a well educated kind hearted young man, experiencing a stressful life event, which affects his emotions and work performance. Mr.Hwang has a good seed and a great potential. He may benefit from taking time off to handle his family situation and to steady his performance..all good intentions (words) must be followed by proper actions. Developing solid selfawareness, honesty, and integrity in ACTIONS would enrich his professional status as well as using his nice communication skills and conscience to do more mediation than ligitation. (Under pressure things tend to get worse). I hope he will choose to work on a fair, just and timely resolution of the case instead of supporting, enabling and abusing my ex husband's behavior disorder (immoral actions).

After a reference from a local PD social worker, I was sent to Figiel Law after a horrible experience in court with my initial retained counsel in my contested divorce.
While granular details will not be provided in this review, the circumstances that triggered an email for help came from the place of pure desperation during one of my many sleepless nights.
My email must have validated my anxiety and fear from the events that unfolded in the weeks prior with the previous divorce attorney as Lucas called me first thing next morning, 6:30am to try and put me at ease and determine if Figiel Law could provide support. He spent nearly forty minutes on the phone with me and upon initial discussion felt Figiel Law could help me out of my situation (one that felt helpless from where I sat).
They scheduled me into the office immediately after I retained them as counsel and I quickly sent all my files over for review. At my first visit, not long after the prescreening callback, the firm made me felt like this is exactly where I should be!
Nicholas read all my files in great detail so that upon our meeting, he already had some strategies, asked several questions and provided a roadmap of activities for us to spend our time and focus in order to counter back against opposing counsel with their lies presented in an emergency motion to the court.
All this from our first meeting!
Nicholas quickly drafted the top priorities for my settlement agreement and set appropriate expectations for the various possible outcomes. This was a good strategy as he also armed me with information about custody and parental laws; this was never shared by my previous counsel.
The reason I bother to share this, is that I never realized that I should have really spent more time on hiring and qualifying my divorce attorney as if they were my defending me for my life. As it turns out, contested divorce is really ugly and can turn your life upside down quickly, especially when trying to escape a domestically turbulent situation.
I am extremely grateful I had Figiel Law on my team and because of their support the outcome was in my favor! I am now happy, thriving and healing as I raise my child in our home in peace and tranquility.

Joel was the first attorney that believed in me and I felt comfortable talking to about my case. He did everything that was asked of him and that he promised he would be able to perform. The police wanted me to come in, Joel picked up the phone, talked with the officer and came along with me. Joel cleared one of his typically busy days and met with me and the officer. When I contacted CTA I was hopeless. My husband had been arrested for a crime and didn’t have a background. The bond was so astronomical that it was heartbreaking. This law firm is AWESOME. First of all they give you a personal touch. They make you feel like family. They truly work hard to win the case and to get the best outcome. In my case my son was caught with a gun with an extended clip and a beam on it. My son is no gangster but he fell into trying to keep up with his friends. However his friends how the proper credentials to carry their guns and my son did not. So my son was charged with an aggravated UUW. A felony! This law firm worked tirelessly to get the charges reduced to a UUW which then became a misdemeanor. That is amazing and thankfully now allows my son not to have that X on his record. I would highly recommend this law firm to anyone in trouble and I tell you this. It actually comes at a bargain. This outcome we received was worth every penny. In fact I would have paid more. My divorce wasn't overly complicated, however, my now ex wife was attempting to take the house I purchased for our family with inheritance money following the death of my mother. Dagny understood that my home carried a lot of sentimental value to me and understood the mission to separate my ex from it as much as possible. Thanks to my protective record keeping and Dagny's attention to the details, she was able secure the house for me and keep that buy out for my ex to less than half of what she wanted. Dagny was responsive and when discussions were more complicated than what could be said in an email, she made a time to call me and was always prompt on those times. This law firm is AWESOME. First of all they give you a personal touch. They make you feel like family. They truly work hard to win the case and to get the best outcome. In my case my son was caught with a gun with an extended clip and a beam on it. My son is no gangster but he fell into trying to keep up with his friends. However his friends how the proper credentials to carry their guns and my son did not. So my son was charged with an aggravated UUW. A felony! This law firm worked tirelessly to get the charges reduced to a UUW which then became a misdemeanor. That is amazing and thankfully now allows my son not to have that X on his record.
