I hired Alex to help me divorce my spouse. Unlike others, he listened to my story with respect which I appreciated. He was very knowledgeable regarding the matter and explained things very clearly. All around excellent lawyer. Mr. Pasti was able to get me out of a potential dui situation, knocked down to a dwi with little to none extra consequences, and beleive me I have learned my lesson. Steve Shepard is the best attorney I could have ever asked for. But what I hold dear to my heart is that he is even a better person. I had been falsely convicted of a serious crime and facing life in prison. I hope no one ever has to go through what I went through. I fired my original attorney after being convicted. I was living the worst nightmare imaginable, as I had given up hope. But then Steve Shepard came into my life for good. Steve learned of my situation from outside family members, and the next day came to jail to talk to me, and that day was on a Sunday of all days. Mr. Shepherd was able to get me out of jail and on home detention while awaiting sentencing. He cared and realized the horrible crisis I was in and the toll it was taking on my family. From that moment on, he worked for me morning, noon and night. First and foremost, Steve immediately cared about my family and I… and it wasn’t all about money as it is for so many attorneys. It was about justice and a family and community who were suffering over someone they loved. For over a year Steve worked every day on my case leaving no stones unturned, even while working on other cases… and this is not a stretch, believe me, I KNOW. The scariest day of my life, my day of sentencing finally came. As I said earlier, I hope no one ever knows the feeling. Steve’s expertise shined, and the worst day of my life was handled masterfully. Every second of my three hour hearing went flawless. Our year long preparation and sleepless nights was rewarded with justice. My life sentence which the state so desperately pursued, FAILED. I no longer sit in the dark with tears in my eyes thinking I may never be with my loved ones again…Today everything‘s a little brighter. I have life again… and it’s all because of Stephen Patrick Shepard. Through my family members most notably, my brother and sister-in-law, I believe God and my loved ones in heaven, found a way to get me to Mr. Shepard. His wife also played a crucial role in my freedom. She was always there for me from start to finish as well. I am so grateful. They are now family and always will be. That won’t happen to me, I said, I don’t practice that religion, and so I did not speak out. That won’t happen to me, I said, I’m not of that sexual orientation, and so I did not speak out. That won’t happen to me, I said, I’m not part of that income bracket, and so I did not speak out. That won’t happen to me, I said, I don’t have that disability, and so I did not speak out. That won’t happen to me, I said, until it was physically in my face, had me backed into a corner, and was spewing utter vitriol at me. That won't happen to me, I said, he'd never lay a hand on me, until one day the physical aggression caused me physical pain and injury. That won’t happen to me, I said, until thirteen months ago, when I found myself on the phone with a domestic violence hotline. That won’t happen to me, I said, until thirteen months ago, when I found myself hurriedly packing a bag and fleeing my home, and boarding an aircraft out of state, because I feared for my life and safety. Fifty years ago, when my mother and her family escaped their war-torn country with nothing but the clothes on their backs and one bag per person due to religious persecution, I never imagined that one day, fifty years into the future, that I too would one day find myself following in her footsteps, quite literally. I never imagined that I would one day find myself fleeing my home with nothing but the clothes on my back and one small carry-on bag, and boarding a same-day aircraft bound for 1,000+ miles away, because I too feared for my life and safety. Thirteen months ago, when I found myself on the phone with a local domestic violence agency in my state, I never imagined that the proverbial door would get slammed in my face, on the basis that I earned too much money to qualify for any help or support. Since I was born and raised abroad, and with my own family still living halfway around the world, it was in that moment that I truly realized, and that it genuinely sunk in, that I was going to be completely and entirely alone in the process of escaping the cycle of violence. In 1848, divorce was practically unheard of. Most states had fault-based divorce laws outlining the requirements and criteria permitting divorce: lunacy, adultery, desertion, or cruelty. This meant that couples could only pursue divorce IF they could prove, in a court of law, that one or the other had committed one of these offenses. However, given the laws (or lack thereof) governing women's rights and freedoms at the time, divorce was far more complex for women, as they remained at risk of being unable to regain their last names, unable to retain property acquired prior to their marriage, or unable to obtain custody of their children. These fault-based grounds are in stark contrast to the no-fault system that exists across most states today. Today, after decades of tireless advocacy, and thanks to incredible attorneys like Laurie Wasserman and Virginia Yeoman, people are no longer required to remain shackled to their spouses, and have the freedom to escape the cycle of violence. Thanks to the fabulous support of Laurie and Virginia, I've not only been able to survive, but I am slowly on my way to thriving again. The words "happiness" and "divorce" are the last two words you'd expect to see in the same sentence, but that is exactly what Virginia and Laurie have facilitated for me. For anyone considering engaging the services of Laurie Wasserman and her team, from the bottom of my heart, I wholeheartedly recommend them and their entire office. They'll not only save your life, but they will also help re-unlock your door to freedom, health, independence, and joy again.

Before I hired Martha, I was working with another attorney for my divorce process, and I just didn't feel like they were on my side and looking out for my best interests. Someone referred me to Martha White, and once I met with her, I made the decision to end my retainer agreement with my current attorney and hire Martha White. Martha White listened to me and to my concerns and what I wanted out of dissolving my marriage. She was always responsive to my calls or emails and took the time to explain things to me, so that I understood all of terms and possible outcomes of this process. I feel that she helped me reach a fair settlement and I was happy with the final settlement agreement. I wish I would have hired her in the first place. She didn't drag the process out any longer than it needed to be. I was very pleased with her representation of me in my divorce case. If I ever would have another family law issue, she would be the first attorney I would contact. You can't go wrong having Martha White as your attorney.

Ms. Fait is the absolute worst attorney. She represented me and was unethical, dishonest, she literally lied to me soo much. I had a custody case with my husband that had been going on for years and I needed a strong attorney and I thought I had found that when I read the google reviews for Fait & Dilima. I figured out that they are just dishonest and willing to do whatever it take to "win." The only issue was that they had me lie in my case and they literally didn't read their previous motions and their new motions said a different story. I ended up losing my case for a number of reasons and all of them point back to Ms. Fait and her team! 1. She had me lie and told me that it was fine and that I had her 2. The judge and the plaintiff's attorney pointed out the inaccuracies in the stories based on the motions alone as the stories didn't match up! All of that is Ms. Fait and her firms fault! 3. Ms. Fait & her team did not prepare me properly for court and the cross examination by plaintiff's counsel. I am a well educated individual and I should have never worked with her and her firm... They are grossly negligent and they simply do not care about their clients! It is all about the $ for her!

Pawnee Davis is an amazing family lawyer, I highly recommend her and if I ever need a lawyer again in md/dc I will definitely be contacting her again. she helped me gather all my paperwork together that I needed for my case… my case was on paternity and she was able to get my case dismiss in less than 10 mins. Pawnee is an experience lawyer than knows her family law very well. For example if you were to explain to her your situation more than likely she has already worked on a case like yours and or similar.

I had a difficult civil lawsuit against a defendant that decided to lie in court and had hired a very high priced and powerful lawyer for a tenant-landlord case. I had previously spoken to close to 10 other attorneys about my case and most were unsure of a positive outcome for me. Ben was humble and low key in court and seemed to win every critical point and help persuade the jury into a great outcome for me, far beyond expectations. Alex and his firm helped me with my third party custody case where I needed to gain De Facto Parentage. With myself being the third party and up against the child’s biological parents. I'll forever regret my decision to hire Barbara Jorgensen as my divorce attorney. I am still suffering from the repercussions. My divorce should have been simple. My ex had a warrant out for his arrest due to a crime against a neighbor. He also had priors and had engaged in many actions causing great risk to me. I'd just been diagnosed with lifelong critical illness but this was pushed into taking on the impossible. The economy had collapsed and the property (that the ex was afraid to go near) was severely upside down in value. He wasn't contributing towards the property payments, and left me with an unmanageable number of expenses that were his responsibility. Barbara Jorgensen ignored all of these circumstances. She even told me that types of support other divorcees were successfully arranging did "not exist" and that his crimes and lack of financial contributions were somehow irrelevant to his demands for money that did not exist. While she may have advocated for her clients back in 1985, both her skills and focus were very outdated decades later. She was often outright condescending towards me as her client and kept confusing my account for another client's who was delinquent in payments. She also told me I had no choice but to continue with tasks and expenses for superfluous actions from my ex's attorney whereas in reality I could have walled away or ignored most of it. It was well known that the mess drained my savings and left me in a literal long-term trap. As a final display of not caring about her clients, she even sent a disruptive and embarrassing younger attorney to court the day my ridiculous divorce agreement was filed. I was leery of most of her decisions but was going off of Washingtonian Magazine's endorsements. This is not an attorney who will advise to your benefit. This is the type of lawyer who still believes that attorneys are automatically respected and assumed to be brilliant, thereby giving them the ability to make up rules and advice that their clients won't question. This may have been the case in 1985 but certainly wasn't by then. With the immature JGL junior attorney solidifying my overall impression, I've steered friends and colleagues away from this firm ever since.

I will gladly share my experience here, as it changed my life. Without going into dramatic details I am a father who cares very much about my son. Helping him develop into a responsible adult is the most important part of my life. Prior to coming to A Team family law that was going to be a impossible task. The facts are that hiring a lawyer is a expensive adventure regardless of the circumstances but Valerie was more than fair with me when it came to charging me for her time. I was devastated about getting a false Protective Order charge against me and I thought for sure that because I was a male, I would not get treated fairly in court. I hired Ed O'conner for 2 different protection order cases (at $1500 a pop). The first one was dismissed by the judge as it was clearly ridiculous and the judge had some common sense. The second one, however, became one of the worst things that happened to me party due to the incompetence of this lawyer. Less than 3 weeks after the first, the second was filed for unrelated accusations. CPS unsubstantiated the claim. In our discussions leading up to court it was very clear that we would take it to trial. I provided Mr. O'conner with any information he requested. At the hearing, he decided that we needed to make a 'deal' and not go to trial. I argued with him and he shamed me, saying I was a pain to deal with. How could I be confident to go to trial with a lawyer that clearly did not want to? I was between a rock and a hard place. I ended up with supervised visitation of my child, when before I had half custody. I was defeated by my own lawyer. Later, when problems arose due to the agreement not being written specific enough, he argued that I was wrong about what the deal was. I asked if he checked his notes and he answered 'no'. I reminded him that last time I spoke to him he didn't even remember who I was so how can he be so sure of his memory of such a specific detail? He responded that I wasn't making any friends like this. I told him how unprofessional and unreliable that I felt he was and am now conveying this information to save anyone else from this type of situation. Luckily, I later found a great lawyer who was able to undo all of the foolishness of this situation and restore half custody and my relationship with my child. My current lawyer and the judge both stated how it was a terrible decision to make that deal when CPS unsubstantiated the charges and I was given bad legal advice. Be warned.
