If you are looking forward to win your case Mr. Fatos (Fatosi, as i call him) is the right attorney. Today i got my Green Card from the Koleci Office and just so you know we won the case in just 2 months since i come here in the USA! I remember the court day even today after almost 3 years Fatosi use to talk to the prosecutor "objection" when it was the right time or when he saw something intentional from from him. By this i wanted to let you guys know that he know how to protect his clients and to not just sit there without doing nothing. Fatos you are the best and thank you one more time!

These attorneys have very questionable ethics. My mother-in-law has Alzheimer’s and dementia and they had her sign to revoke a POA so her scheming husband could take her retirement inheritance. She was not of sound mind and state health officials have attested to it. I guess if you want attorneys that are not ethical, go with these guys.

Mary Anne Charron is an outstanding attorney and an excellent choice for legal representation, especially if you are trying to steer an estate through probate. When I was named executor of my sister’s estate, I took a deep breath and said I would handle it. Then the staggering responsibilities of that decision hit me like a brick. I was totally overwhelmed and knew I needed help as the tasks and deadlines began to pile up. Fortunately, a friend recommended Charter Oak Law Group and specifically, Mary Anne Charron. I called the Charter Oak Law office in Bloomfield and made an appointment to meet. After reviewing the estate documents, she quickly got things on track and prioritized the tasks for timely completion to satisfy probate. Mary Anne and her staff picked up the load and the estate was settled smoothly and efficiently. My wife and I realized that our own wills were way out of date, and again Mary Anne worked through the task of answering all our questions and setting up our estate planning documents exactly as we wanted them. With my mother’s recent passing, I find myself again in the role of executor and have enlisted Mary Anne Charron to expertly move the estate through the probate process. If you need assistance with estate planning, probate, a new will, or a real estate purchase or sale, Charter Oak Law Group and Mary Anne Charron can take the worry out of the process for you.

Horrible!! Used for probate services and the attorney gave inaccurate advice, didn’t return my calls, answer my questions or I would get a “ I’m not sure” and would never follow up with actual advice. I would have to call at least 5 times to a response from anyone. Terrible I would not use this firm. The entire staff is not competent or reliable

Attorney Rapice represented our family in a difficult probate estate closing. He was very effective in representing our family and protecting our assets. Clearly without Attorney Rapice fighting and winning spirit our family estate assets would have been at great risk. Attorney Rapice represented me in a very complicated and difficult employment dispute against the corrupt & bankrupt Diocese / Catholic Church. Without Attorney Rapice highly effective legal representation against this corrupt organization my career would have been destroyed. To say the least Attorney Rapice is a fighter and a winner and am pleased that I selected him to protect me against the unfair employment practices I had encountered. The monetary damages and compensation I received would not have occurred without his strong and effective legal counsel. I would absolutely recommend attorney Rapice to fight for you in any unfair labor dispute you may encounter.

He was referred to me with “flying colors”. Unfortunately I could categorically state that my Interaction with this lawyer for the last 3 months was “good for nothing”. I offered to PAY him for a letter he PROMISED to send to my HOA but he declined. Rather I offered him a small token for his timein hearing my case. He LED me TO BELIEVE that he sent that promised letter to my HOA. Three months passed requesting him to send me a copy. I NEVER got one. Very unreliable & a Real Bluffer. His unacceptable demeanor towards a Senior Citizen is very unbecoming of his Discipline.

I can say in the beginning he was very knowledgeable seemed like he wanted to help protect me and my special needs child. Towards the end just seems like he did not care anymore he knew exactly what was happening, the fact that my supposed victim I threatened me and my child, was a known drug dealer, known to be married and frauding the government, proven to lie directly to a judge.the fact that she was I was told this is not substantial to my case. But then was told by several different attorneys it should have been included. The fact that he said I shouldn't have been arrested but did nothing about it as he was not at my arraignment. Seems when I got another attorney to ask him questions everything kind of went sideways as I was being told by Mr young one thing and being proven by different attorneys that was not the case. I spent my life savings trying to protect my special needs child that Mr Young knew was in very realistic possible danger period yeah he did nothing to prove my innocence just question me as if I was the bad guy never directly answering questions

Taking care of an elderly parent can present some major challenges. As they get older, the decisions one must make get tougher and tougher. That is why you need an attorney who is forward thinking with knowledge of potential issues before they arise. It is so much better to be proactive - rather than have to be reactive as life situations change. Lyn Eliovson is just that type of attorney. She advises you of potential issues that will need to be addressed as your parent ages. Whether is be creating a straightforward Power of Attorney document or handling complex Trust issues, she is there to advise you on the correct course of action for the present time and into the future. Lyn's pleasant personality is an added plus; helping you navigate through these often complex situations. Anyone using her services will get the resources of an accomplished attorney with a heart.

Several main problems that I can go through in detail by memory. My first impression was of her berating a young intern or employee to the point of tears in public. Then I learned it wasn't just employees, it was clients. Eldercare clients. Then I learned it included me, an eldercare client paying $600.00 hour for a snapping turtle. Every time she snapped, I took it, though t about it and said to myself I have no idea what caused that. At the third meeting she did it again to someone else and I said "Wait a minute, you are not a criminal lawyer, we are not criiminals. We are also also not rich and no more of this at your $600 an hour What kind of eldercare attorney talks to their eldercare clients? She replied dismissively that technically my 90 year old mother was her client. Now just think about that for a minute and see if you can think of a worse possible reply in a courtroom. She's basically saying my 90 year old mother is safe from her barbs but that the children attempting to pay for it are fare game. Not at $600 an hour were not! Recently asked for a simple line item accounting of meetings held and was informed by an employee after consulting with her that the "file had been shred", Why don't you give me a call because you've been too afraid to talk to me. On the other hand she gives pleasant little radio talks. No problems whatsoever with the staff. And the infamous weakness of a snapping turtle is a weak underbelly.......

When I decided to put together a Trust I looked him up and saw that his focus is Estates and Trusts...I called him and he spent over 30 mins. asking me questions and advising me. i did my own research online and decided he was the one that could help me. He was courteous, kind, understanding, and most of all thorough and well versed. He built my Trust and Living Will etc., I highly recommend Tom Drew.

My experience with Attorney Drew was extremely positive. I found Mr. Drew to be very responsive, professional, and reasonable in terms of expenses. My mother's estate turned out to be much more complicated than we expected, and the CT Department of Social Services was unusually thorough and sometimes difficult to deal with, but with Mr. Drew's assistance, we reached a very positive outcome. His assistance was invaluable and he did a great job in advocating the interests of my mom.

I’m an unsatisfied client of Tom Drew who I hired for Estate Planning. He didn’t invest the time or have patience to properly educate us about his estate plans and was intolerant to accommodate and address our concerns. His estate plan could have been better formatted with articles headings, an index, more definitions and key words notations to easily reference subjects and to facilitate comprehension. We couldn't go forward with the estate plans he submitted. The relationship was terminated and not in a pleasant manner. We lost our $2,215 advance.

Attorney sat on my case for over a year while I paid interest on my debt from missing work from injury, barely answered any emails or gave me any information. Defaulted on appointments. When I hired another lawyer after she didn’t call me on a scheduled appointment (Berman and Russo was my new firm) he said he’d never seen anything like this in his whole career, told me things in one call I didn’t know in a year of being ignored, said case should have been settled a long time ago and proceeded to do so. Stay away.

Because of mobility issues I have, Mark even arranged to bring the required paperwork out to my car to allow me to sign documents in comfort. Mark and Melissa have extensive experience in real estate law among other areas, and their considerable knowledge and experience gave us great confidence that we had selected the right team to represent us. We can strongly recommend that you also consider doing so.

I trusted Atty. Hadaway with my mother's money. My opinion is that her work was sloppy, and her communication quite poor. My opinion is that her wrong advise wound up costing me (besides the $9000 retainer) an additional $6500, and this would have been more if I didn't consult another lawyer who took 5 minutes to correct Attorney Hadaway's reckless advice. It is also my opinion that when I confronted her about these issues, she danced around them. I would have appreciated a little humility however instead I received arrogant replies questioning my memory. She even has the audacity to infer that my mother was of ne help to her...so cruel and insulting since she knew my mother was in a long tern care nursing facility-which was why I met with office in the first place. It's a wonderful thing when you do business with someone and your experience is so positive, refreshing and so rewarding that you can't want to share your experiences with family and friends. I can't tell everyone how poor my experience was, and most of all really disgusted by the consistent feeling of arrogance over integrity I felt I received by Attorney Hadaway.

Deborah Hadaway handled my wife's medicaid application from start to finish and secured medicaid acceptance for her. There were many hurdles to overcome and Attorney Hadaway overcame them with grace ,patience, and compassion. My wife and I had complete trust in Attorney Hadaway's ability to advise and instruct us in all the complicated issues that arose in the course of this legal procedure. I was totally pleased with Attorney Hadaway's handling of this involved legal procedure.

We found Attorney Hadaway by happenstance while trying to navigate the ins and outs of our family member's recent long term care placement. We needed legal guidance on how to properly liquidate assets, spend down and begin the process of applying for Long Term Care Assistance from Medicaid. Attorney Hadaway was a true blessing for our family. Not only was she a pleasure to work with but she gave us the confidence to negotiate a very difficult process with as little stress as possible. She was very comforting, assuring us that she'd "let us know when it was time to worry" - we never needed to. She handled everything and was amazing. Her guidance was invaluable to us. She was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with - returned emails & phone calls very quickly. Excellent follow through and knowledge pertaining to Long Term Care assistance. We were beyond pleased with her support, professionalism and compassion for our situation.

My parents were living at home and required care for daily activities. The need to manage assets, screen long-term care facilities and understand elder law and how it applies to them was paramount. We reached out to Attorney Tully for support in understanding elder care law and hired him at our first meeting. The depth of expertise in elder care law and his ability to simplify it to make sense to us was obvious and continued throughout. Attorney Tully and his staff prepared applications (Veteran's Administration and Title 19) and answered our many questions as we worked through the process. This included managing my parents assets to comply with applicable elder care law. There were numerous face-to-face meetings and conference calls. I should mention that our contract with Attorney included a lump sum payment which, while expensive, was worthwhile. My parents are in a long term care facility. Though terms of the contract have been met Attorney Tully and staff are still available to answer questions. Attorney Tully was often delayed in returning calls and responding to requests for for information. The best way to reach him was by requesting a meeting. His support staff was exceptional in responding to questions and requests for information.

We hired Dan for our elder care issues. My mother-in-law has dementia and we wanted to keep her at home as long as possible. Dan has been able to do that with all the help he has provided. He has guided us through the veterans and state processes to get us the help we really needed to keep her at home. Dan listened to what we needed and he was able to give us answers and alternatives to make sure we understood all the options available to us. Together we made a plan that worked beautifully to help us keep my mother-in-law at home. We don't have many worries about the future thanks to Dan and all the work his office did for us.

If I went on Avvo to check Attorney Amendola out I would of steered cleared of him. I came to him with a lawsuit in 2010 and met with him at his office and he never gave me a copy of our agreement which was my 1st mistake. Then I fired him after I learned from Avvo.com that he has been reprimanded and suspended multiple times. I kept up looking at my lawsuit and he still was taken it on when I checked my case in New Britain Courthouse. I then left him a message with a screenshot and a copy of the letter that stated he was fired. After about a year the lawsuit was about to be thrown out so I called him and spoke with him and told him to finish the rest of the lawsuit and I didn’t want to deal with any funny stuff. He called me and said their was an offer of $4200.00 dollars for me which he didn’t tell me the entire amount. I then needed the money so I said ok. He sent papers over to me that I signed saying I would receive $4200.00 dollars. He then said over the phone that I could only get 2 grand of this money and he would explain later. Which he never did. He called me out of the blue and told me to meet me at his bank and he would give $2,000 dollars which I thought was odd since he didn’t show me the full amount he received from the insurance company but I believed him because he was the attorney and I was desperate for money to pay bills. I met him at his bank and then went in with my brother and him and he wrote 2 checks from him to me and he had me sign them which came out to $2,000.00 dollars. After speaking with other lawyers I began to send him emails that I have kept and printed in case anything ever came up. I told him he needed to give me the other $2,200.00 dollars unless he can tell me why he kept the money and what he paid with the money for. He aleways say he would never steal money from a client then I brought up he was suspended and reprimanded on Avvo multiple times and I wanted my money or I was gonna report him. After 20 Something messages and I told him I would never stop calling and messaging him unless he gave me the rest of my lawsuit which I ask him for copies of which he would not give me so aI said I started the process to report him and told him was it worth $2,200.00 dollars for his license and I told him I have kept every email that I sent and he replied. He then told me after 6 months of doing sending him emails and multiple calls which he would never answer and have another person call me to ask me to come in then I would get an email saying that he was going out of town that day. Figures right. I written him an email about the case and how he made me meet him at his bank and no other lawyer would do that and also brought up the fact that I didn’t get or see any paperwork stating the money he received from the opposing attorney for the insurance company and I needed to see it all or I was going to file with the grievance committee. Two days later he sent an email stating he was going to send the rest of my money which was $2,500.00 dollars and I did receive this money but never knew the exact amount we received from the insurance company. I would never ever use this attorney for any type of lawsuit. After he sent the money I have never spoke to him again. I half a 3 inch stack of emails from me to him and his responses which he never will actually say anything incriminating but I not knowing how this process works he took full advantage of me. I finally was able to receive this money through a bankers check which I made copies of it since I couldn’t make copies of the checks he wrote at his bank which was 2 of them one for $1200.00 and the other for $800.00 dollars when the lawsuit said that I was to receive $4,500.00 dollars. Never ever use this lawyer unless you want to go through what I did. Read his Avvo profile first and you will see what he is about. Again his name is Adam Amendola which has an office in East Haven,CT.

Several months ago, my wife and I met with Attorney Sutnik for a very lengthy meeting to discuss updating our Trust. The meeting lasted for at least 90 minutes, and there was no fee charged for this initial consultation. We gave Attorney Sutnik our prior Trust documents which he said he would review within a few days and get back to us. He quoted a price range which we accepted, and that was the last we heard from him. Perhaps two months passed without a call, so I had my wife contact his office so we could retrieve our documents. We assumed he was not interested in having us as clients. There was no explanation offered as to why he completely ignored us, and no request for additional time. My wife was told our documents would be waiting on the Admin's desk. Needless to say, we are very disappointed and would suggest others look elsewhere for competent legal services.

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
