Amie has been more than helpful in assisting me in executing the will and managing the Estate of my late aunt. She has been very knowledgeable in managing the sale of her home while dealing with creditors. Amie has been been able put the big picture together to help advise me in which direction I need to go. Amie has been very pleasant, kind, and compassionate during this entire process. When we meet, she always takes the time to make sure she is able to address any concerns. Additionally, she is very responsive via email and phone calls. I would recommend her to anyone looking into trusts, estate planning, and execution of an Estate.

I recently hired Amie Gartenberg for estate planning after she was recommended to me by a close friend. After being widowed in the past year I was a bit anxious and not very knowledgeable about what was involved other than a new will. It turns out a lot more and Ms Gartenberg was extremely patient and understanding in guiding me through it all. I was totally comfortable from the introduction on, never felt rushed and every question I had was thoroughly covered. I made three visits to the office, always received a friendly greeting and was seen promptly. My completed documents were presented in their own handsome storage box along with all the specific guidelines needed to finalize the estate plan. It was a pleasure to work with Amie Gartenberg and I would recommend her without hesitation.

Amie Gartenberg worked with my parents and my family during a difficult time for us, as my father was ill. She prepared trust and estate documents quickly, explained everything thoroughly, and was so warm and caring during the whole process. She is now continuing to serve as my mother's family lawyer, and we feel very secure and supported by her experienced legal advice and legal action on our behalf. We are very fortunate to have engaged Atty. Gartenberg.

I can’t even begin to describe what a fantastic group of people The Perecman Firm has to offer. They have managed to find the best of the best and put them all together in this firm. They have become like family to us. They truly care about you. My husband was injured in a construction accident and after being let go by another prominent firm, The Perecman Firm took on our case and gave us peace of mind. Our attorney, Steven Dorfman, is top-notch and absolutely brilliant. Look no further!! Linda Hirschfeld keeps your case organized and flowing with perfection. So many knowledgeable professionals at this firm and you never have to worry. They will work hard for your best outcome. We love you all at Perecman and we thank you for your hard work on our case.

In the fall of 2015, I suffered a crush injury on a construction site in NYC. I was taken on by what is considered one of the top law firms in the North East. 6 months into my case, they dropped me citing the difficulty in winning my case. The Perecman Firm looked over my case and eagerly took it on. From day 1 they coordinated all of my case needs. All of my follow up doctor visits and Independent Medical Examiner appointments were over seen and documented by their group of experts. Ed Guldi walked my case through the red tape of NYS Workers Comp and Silvana Leone navigated me through the incredibly arduous path of obtaining SSDI like she wrote the code! Every T was crossed and every I was dotted! As for case itself, Steven Dorfman nailed it… not only did he win, his filings and oral arguments resulted in the case receiving summary judgement and I never stepped foot in a courtroom! His work was so convincing and thorough that he left opposing council no alternative than to settle and he over-performed again negotiating a settlement beyond my wildest expectations! Nobody reads law firm reviews unless they are in need of representation, I can tell you with 100% certainty that you will not regret ending your search and just contact Perecman… they without question saved my life by getting me the compensation I deserved and needed and I couldn’t be happier with what they accomplished on my family’s behalf.

This has to be one of the absolute worst firms in the entire city. My mother was hit by a car and in a case that should have taken months to resolve had taken over two years to settle. The communication from them was non existent, and representation was atrocious. I implore anyone who cares for their family members to look for different services than this firm. Please heed this warning as it will save you time, money and actual representation. They charged my mother 33% for absolutely nothing. No follow up, no guidance absolutely nothing. You’d have better chances representing yourself. Good luck to anyone of you who decide to deal with this horrible law firm.

Samantha diligently worked on my behalf to achieve my dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. The process was a long and strenuous one. Frustration led me to a point of hopelessness, seriously considering giving up on this endeavor. For Samantha this was not an option for me. Instead, her positive attitude and continued encouragement pushed me to continue with my dream. On July 30, 2018 I was officially sworn in as a U.S. citizen. This date just so happened to also be the day of my son's birthday, which made this occasion that much sweeter.

I hired Mr. Sikorski to advise me on how I could be designated as a beneficiary of assets of an irrevocable trust after the death of the benefactor even though the benefactor still needed the income during his lifetime from the assets of the trust that was being generated. The advice from Mr. Sikorski was to establish the terms in the trust to allow the income of the assets of the trust to continue to go to the benefactor's benefit during his lifetime though he signed away the principal . This allowed the funding of the irrevocable trust to be established while having no disruption to the welfare of the benefactor during his lifetime. Mr. Sikorski explained that this is a method employed to benefit charities as well, without causing a disruption to the welfare of the benefactor. When I explained this method to the potential benefactor it made perfect sense to him and he indeed created the irrevocable trust for me with this arrangement. Mr. Sikorski was very patient with me in explaining legal concepts.

Grimaldi and Yeung (Judy and Michelle) assisted me in creating an estate plan for my property and finances--in addition to advising me about about documentation such as living will, health care proxy and power of attorney. Judy and Michelle were very helpful in guiding the process and prompt in answering questions and advising. The process was smooth and efficient and the Judy, Michelle and their staff were not only very professional, but also personable. They made the process really quite easy and the final product of my documentation were prepared and packaged beautifully. One of the most important reason I hired the firm of Grimaldi and Yeung is that they are very knowledgeable and very good in the area of Estate Planning and Elder Law. Michelle Yeung was assigned to my case and dealt with her if I had any questions or concerns. She was great. Whether I called her on the phone or emailed her she always responded in a timely fashion. When I visited the office she always took a few minutes to sit with me and explain in detail what I needed to know and what to do. She took a personal interest in me in that she reassured me during this trying time that everything was going to be OK, that she was there to help me whenever a needed her and so she was. The staff is also wonderful. Very professional and very caring. I whole heartedly recommend Ms. Yeung and the firm.

They took as much time as needed to help us understand the law as well as procedures required through the entire process. There were no "extra" or surprise or hidden fees. This past year was a tough one as we decided to create a medicaid irrevocable trust as our mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. We are a very close family and the diagnosis in and of itself has been extremely difficult. Our mother wanted us to get all of the families affairs in order. Our father was resistant because this was his job and he was resisting the changes this would mean but more importantly it meant accepting his wife of 55 years diagnosis. We walked into the Grimaldi & Yeung Law firm with trepidation, fear and some degree of confidence that we were stepping up to the plate and taking care of things. It was not easy and took over a year for us to follow through, due to a lack of trust in what we never dealt with and fear of change. We rushed nothing and with each concern our father had we went to his financial advisor and accountant for reassurance. We had gotten a contract to sign from the law firm and had to give an initial fee and we all wanted to be sure the prices were fair and the recommendations were right for us. We proceeded to read everything and speak with all of the proper authorities regarding the contract and suggestions by Grimaldi law firm. Anyone who does what we did would be smart- especially if they understood little going in. At the same time we were not easy clients. We questioned everything. This is where the review comes in for Stephenie Yeh. I had to first give a lay of the land as you may relate. Stephenie Yeh absolutely and gently blew us away (in the most positive sense). My brother in law had dealt with the same situation with his mother and used a different law firm. He felt that Stephenie explained things that was so much more clear than the lawyers he dealt with. We were so impressed by Stephenie's ability to explain things (over and over again) in laymen's terms so we could really understand. This happened over numerous phone calls and emails before the signing over months and months. The day of the signing when everything was clear, approved and we were just going in to sign, my dad had an emotional block for this all. It was as if he was hearing everything for the first time. He is 85 and in pretty good shape and awareness. With each road block he put up, Stephenie patiently explained things once again to him and in a way that he would be able to comprehend what he was doing and signing. She never made any of us feel rushed and encouraged us to take our time and to make sure we felt comfortable. I actually cannot give greater praise to Stephenie Yeh's mannerism, care and professional knowledge and handling of our families elder care and legal documents. Judith Grimaldi (who came highly recommended from friends) is a seasoned and brilliant lawyer with a very full plate. She saw that we needed more attention then your average client and so I believe she decided to have us work closely with Stephenie Yeh. So I now write one of my first social media reviews ever to thank them for the care in which they handled us and for their ability to listen when we questioned anything along the way. If you are faced with a similar situation regarding your parents or a loved one, I highly recommend Stephenie Yeh at Grimaldi and Yeung, LLP.

As a caregiver for many years of a family member who had Parkinson's disease, our Licensed Clinical Social Worker at our hospital Neurology Department presented me with three names of eldercare law firms as my family member's health was declining. I interviewed all three firms, then selected Lamson & Cutner to proceed with our eldercare requirements for help in navigating the ever changing legal requirements as to long term nursing home care when on USA Government health care insurances. I am so happy to have found this law firm for help , my family members agree ,that it was the wisest decision for me to make. No one can do this complicated legal work alone and it is best ,if possible to proceed with legal issues when the ill person can still understand and contibute their own desires as to what their assets distribution ,usually but not exclusivly into an Irrevocable trust, as well as critical end of life decisions to their family which should be then ultimately drawn up in legal documents by an Attorney . As the LSCW stated to me when I hesitated thinking "I had so much time to get to this issue" ...'Don't put it off"!

I had an extremely negative experience with this law firm and would not recommend their services to anyone. If I could give them 0 stars I would do so. I had my initial consultation with David which lasted only a few minutes. I had some questions about my situation, but he told me he does not work for free and he did not give me any further advice until I signed a retainer agreement. A few days later I received a text from a paralegal asking if I was still interested in their services and to pay a $2,500 retainer. The amount was a surprise to me because David had said that the retainer would be $1,000 during our initial consultation. The invoice they sent me for the retainer was also marked "Past Due" even though it was sent to me before I ever signed a retainer agreement. I believe they did this to get me to pay as soon as possible. After some back and forth with their paralegal over text, I paid $1,000 so that the firm could draft a letter to my landlord. The paralegal then told me to send important documents that I had to the firm. I asked them what documents I should send but never got a response, which is ridiculous because they are supposed to be advising me as to what is important. After hearing nothing I decided to send them a small amount of documents showing I lived at the apartment like cable bills. I followed up with them, and they told me the letter would be ready by 5pm on a Monday. They missed that deadline without giving me any explanation and despite my multiple texts asking them for an update. And while they were very quick to respond to my messages when it came to paying their retainer, it took them several days to get back to me about the status of my letter. Based on this, I told them I no longer wanted them to represent me and asked that they refund me. They sent me a receipt showing that I was only refunded $160 out of my $1,000 retainer, and without any explanation of the work they did. I wrote to the firm the next day requesting a full refund. David called me but mostly talked down to me instead of listening to my concerns and said things like "well you signed the retainer agreement." The firm then sent me a timesheet showing about 2.5 hours of work. According to that time sheet, it took them 1 hour to review the documents I sent (which were just my cable bills and a certificate). They also apparently billed me 1 hour for drafting the letter, which I never received. They also refused to give me a copy of the letter until I said I would be filing a complaint. The letter that it apparently took them an hour to draft was a couple of sentences that I could have done myself. It's unbelievable that this letter reflects two hours of attorney work. They also billed me for almost half an hour for texts I had with their office at their attorney rates. It was a complete surprise to me that I had ever texted any attorney because the person that was texting me said they were a paralegal, and I received messages like "all attorneys are in court right now". When I asked them about this, they claimed an attorney was texting me some of the time. If that is true, that attorney never identified themself as such and almost all of the texts were about payment of their retainer. Why should I have to pay them for that? Ultimately, I received no value from this firm and they refuse to refund me in full. Avoid at all costs

My experience with Shapiro Legal Group PLLC WAS GREAT. I must say the representative that called me was very nice and he made me feel comfortable with the whole process and explained in detail how everything went from here. There's no amount of money that could buy out the suffering with headache's and everything else that goes along with the tumor, but the people (same people who made some COVID injections) (Pfizer) let millions of women get the Depo- Provera shot for over a decade while neglecting to label the side affect that it could cause brain tumors. At least they could do is compensate/ Settle out of court with us women who did develop a brain tumor due to their negligence

Mina is a fantastic real estate lawyer that I highly recommend to anyone even thinking of buying a condo in NYC. She was very thorough, quick, and walked me through every step of the way. Buying a condo in NYC is pretty complicated compared to other places so having her guide me through was phenomenal. She dug into records and documents that helped us get all the key details and information on the building and property that made me feel confident on the purchase.

I got two tickets and the court date was rescheduled dozen of times over the period of 5 years. During that time, not once a representative from the office gave me attitude or did not return my phone call. Highly professional people work in that office and today I received the notice that both of my tickets were dismissed. I am so grateful for all the support during the time and so relieved. Thank you so much for your help! I truly appreciate it!

Mr. McEnery has over 30 years experience in Elder Care Services and Estate Planning. Upon meeting him for the first time, my husband and I knew he had the experience and expertise to handle our (very complex) situation. Mr. McEnery is a true gentleman who is always professional, yet brutally honest. He will not get involved in a case that he does not believe in. He expects the truth from his clients and will only speak the truth to you. Whether you need a simple Will or representation in Court, Mr. McEnery is the Attorney you should choose. His staff are top notch. They are always pleasant, return calls in a timely manner and are sensitive to their clients' emotional state. We were so fortunate to have found Mr. McEnery to represent us and would highly recommend him.

I was the spokesperson for three family members onitted from a multi- million dollar estate. I did an online search for Estate Litigaition Attorneys. From three I chose Cormac McEnery.I found him to be a gentleman from the first call, His staff is very personable, professional, & helpful. There was never a delay in phone communication, calls were taken or returned promptly. Even though Mr.McEnery was faced with a formidable opponent, he was able to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion for all. I would rate Mr.McEnery and his Top Notch Staff "Triple A Plus."

Cormac has been my attorney since he prepared my first will. He also helped review the wills for my parents, who are in their 80s, and helped them update everything, put living wills and health care proxies in place and set up trusts. He is a wonderful attorney with a wonderful staff that always makes me feel well cared for. In fact, he makes sure that I take care of my business.

We worked with Zach on our wills and related documents. Throughout the process, he was attentive, patient, knowledgeable, and responsive. When last-minute questions arose days before we planned to sign our documents, Zach responded patiently and thoroughly, consulted with colleagues as necessary, and made relevant changes immediately (even on the weekend). He has provided us with clear-headed and calm guidance every step of the way. We cannot recommend Zach's services enough. Thank you!

In 2009, I had the good fortune to hire Gina, during a time of distress to hire Ms. Danetti to draft a trust document for my family. Gina was amiable, thorough, professional, and compassionate which made the process less stressful for me. During the ensuing years she was available and willing to guide me and advise me on matters relating to the estate and taxes. Now, in 2017, I look back and acknowledge the importance of her legal knowledge and continued support.

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
