I would NOT recommend Adam whatsoever. Truly unprofessional and wrong. Quit answering phone calls, didn't submit papers, and backed out on the day of the court hearing without saying anything. If I could give 0 stars I would, look elsewhere.

Adam Yarussi is a very knowledgable and caring attorney. He will go above and beyond to make sure you understand everything and will keep you updated every step of the way. He goes beyond when he can, even after hours to try to answer any questions and ease any stress you maybe feeling. We did not get the exact outcome that we hoped for, but he does have the best interest of his clients in mind and will go over all your options. You will never feel like you are in your situation alone if you have Adam represent you.

This lawyer doesn't follow the law whatsoever, she does what she wants and makes her own laws up. She barks in the courtroom ,very unprofessionaly. Guess she can do what she wants and get away with it all because of who her family is. Not fair or right, but then again that's typical corrupt Lackawanna county for ya.....

This woman is only out for money and a feather in her cap. I decided NOT to hire her and was later up against her in Butler County as she was assigned as the divorce Master in my case. She should not have been but when I requested another master be reappointed, was told that she is the only Master in Butler County. This was a clear conflict of interest and after being told she would be fair and honest, she was anything but. I later come to find out she is extremely biased in her Master's duties in Butler County to side with the men. She often makes rude and derogatory comments to wives regarding their education and earning capacities making women feel like lesser individuals in divorces, myself included. She takes great pride in telling everyone how even tempered she is and how well rounded her decisions are. Someone needs to pull her decisions as a Master in Butler County to see the real truth. I only thank GOD that she did not get elected as a magistrate.

Maureen was a godsend to me after my mother's death. She helped me to navigate through the process of probating her will, setting up an estate account, and all of the other necessary paperwork that had to be done. It was a painful time and Maureen made it easier to bear. After mom's estate was settled, I went back to Maureen to make sure that all of my own matters were in order so now I have peace of mind. If you want that too - call Maureen!

I consulted with Maureen Farrell on several occasions regarding family wills, elder law and inheritance taxes. I found Maureen to be a true professional in every sense of the word. Her attention to detail, depth and breadth of subject matter knowledge and client attention puts her far ahead of the pack. Her adherence to her professional ethics should be the standard for all to admire and respect. In my nearly forty years as a management consultant, I have found few who matched her level of professionalism.

When my mother died, Maureen helped me to "navigate the waters" to get Mom's estate settled. I would have been lost without her. Maureen is a sweet, intelligent, caring person and we have remained friends - which is a great thing!

Karyn was recommended to my Family by a coworker of my husband. We needed guidance and legal advice after my Mother moved in with my sister. This occurred after my Father's death and the sale of their home in 2012. Karyn has truly done an outstanding job in assisting us in establishing a Family Care Agreement. Her manner is completely professional, calm, helpful, and genuine. Karyn has also made suggestions that has made a tremendous difference in my sister's caretaking of our Mother. Karyn is pleasant and always treats us with respect. Our Mother loves her! Recently, we needed to arrange for a daily caretaker to assist Mom. Once again, Karyn guided us through that process. Her responses to phone calls and emails has been great. We see Karyn as an advocate, and not "just a lawyer". We are so grateful to her !

I am POA for a dear friend who has moved into Medicaid level of care. We had no idea how to start the process. We had the good sense to hire Kayrn Seace to guide us through this emotional and time consuming process. How do you rate an angel? Kayrn has set the bar very high: Karyn is very knowledgeable. Right from the first meeting, Kayrn gave us our marching orders through: the Federal, State, and Township guide lines. Who knew it took a village to guide one little 80 year old gem through the maze? Kayrn Seace. Kayrn was always there when needed, knowledgable and caring. My dear friend is well situated in her new home. Thank you Kayrn

The passing of our father 5years ago was an eyeopening experience. Our Dad was the most organized person on the planet. His personal safe was so perfect that it was like he was in the room with us when we started to unravel What his intentions were. Leaving my mom in good shape we needed legal advice to have Mom's personal affIairs in order for the future. As a family we thought we were in good shape. We were but we not well versed on estate planning, power of attorney, living will etc. The difference between Medicare & Medicaid was a mystery to us and we needed to be on tract for the future. Karyn was recommended to us by a business associate of my brother in law. Being the youngest of the family I have the resposonbility of being the primary care taker for my mom. To descibe me I am a butterfly with a sper. Tough individual who is a hard sell. After our first family meeting I was releaved and happy to have her signed on as our attorney. Wonderful with my mom ,she showed nothing but compassion and CLEARLY outlined what steps needed to have in place. My Dad would have really liked her. she is smart. Well versed. professional but down to earth. We now operate like a well oiled machine and have our ducks in a row with the ability to handle obstacles. HIGHLY recommend Karyn. In this day and age it's hard to find integrity.

My experiences with Scaringi Is Law have been very supportive and uplifting at times of unknowing, stress, uncertainty. Ive always been treated with respect from every staff member! Consistency, stability, dependability! We all know that there is no guarantees in life...not really, a toaster has 30 days and on the 31st day it doesnt work....right??? Hhaa Scaringi Law has been the 30 day warranty that hasn't ended. Let me explain, when ever I called Melissa or Laura at the front desk, they were and are there for me every day the Firm is opened. These Front Desk Warriors are super awesome and kind! Then there is the personal Team that is solely dedicated to ensure my Case is taking top priority. Actually every case is Top Priority!! (They make me feel like my Case is the only case!) No matter who in Scaringi Law had been assigned to work with me on my Case had shined like Senior Paralegal Deborah. Brandon, Janice. The one nobody wants to talk about is Billing and Finances. Dominic had been so helpful and kind in this uncomfortable topic. Not once ever had I been made to feel a certain way by him or anyone. Thank you so much Marc Scaringi for your guidance and direction during the Biggest Battle of my life!! Thank you Scaringi Law for standing by myself and my Family as we move forward into 2025. May your Firm and Employees Be Blessed continually. Thank you for having STAYING POWER, Strength, Reliability, Dependability, Professional Support and Guidance. Thank you C. Godwin

I called to speak with someone about a 2A matter. I first spoke with Laura Petty who was very helpful in getting me to the right person. I was amazed they were able to schedule a consultation by the next day! I was paired with attorney Robert Sakovich. This was not an easy set of circumstances and Eric was very meticulous dealing with the various set of problems and concerns. Eric took the appropriate steps to avoid any future liabilities and the kept the family well informed of each step of the process. From the very beginning, Eric made the family feel very comfortable and at ease. Eric has a very clam and reassuring personally and he takes the time to listen and explain each step of the process. All legal matters were handled in professional manner and Eric prepared all the required legal documents accurately and were clearly understood by all family members. Additionally, the attorney legal fess for processing the estate were very fair and there were no hidden surprises. I would recommend Eric to anyone requiring legal assistance to their legal matters. Rosemary Ferrino is my dad’s attorney and she has only met with him two times in a year. Although we have attempted to schedule several scheduled meetings to discuss things, they fall by the waste side. She has never advocated or translated things my dad has told her back to the judge. So we are in this ongoing legal battle on trying to obtain the guardianship back. My dad is a Jamaican immigrant and is not used to different legal terms and this whole process. My brother had power of attorney over my dad, in which was ruled to be invalid which surprises me because they decided to uphold the will that was done at the same time. If you are a minority, I definitely wouldn’t recommend this practice.

Worst attorney I've ever had. In the pre meetings she sounds like she will win you the world plus more. Then it comes time for action and all she wants to do is drag things on to make more money. You can tell her your wishes and everything you need and none of that matters. She will tell you straight up you won't get this or that. It makes no sense im paying you to do a job and your telling me instantly you can't do that. You pay so much upfront thinking alright this will pay for it, but then bam lets double your bill when your done because she doesn't listen to her clients and their wishes. She's not what she makes herself out to be and honestly I don't see how any of these reviews are real besides the one star that I read. If I could give advice for someone looking to hire her for child custody DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH!

I just wanted to thank you for sending attorney Marks my way. He was great to work with, very responsive, and knew the subject matter inside and out. He handled our Medicaid appeal with a sense of purpose and professionalism that we needed despite some very difficult ancillary issues. He brought our appeal to a successful outcome and I would not hesitate to recommend him in the future. Thanks again

I used B&T for a business aquisition recently. Specifically Aaron Hollis was my attorney. He was very responsive, no matter the time or day. Very knowledgable with the most efficient and fastest way to get things done. He reviewed all of my documentation and made recommendations for changes. I couldn't ask for a better business attorney through this process. Thank you.

Our special needs daughter recently turned 18 so we turned to Attorney Kramer through our ARAG legal plan and created an entire estate plan to address our daughter’s short and long term needs. Attorney Kramer was very helpful in explaining everything. For a process that was way over my head, she did a great job of helping me understand all the documents.

I was seeking an attorney to handle my estate. I couldn't be more pleased with Stephanie Kramer. Very knowledgeable, much more than other lawyers I talked to, friendly and kind. I have total confidence in her handling my estate and any other needs I may have. Very thankful to have found her. Reasonable in cost as well. Also a very good and friendly staff. My highest recommendation. Alan Wayne Davis. 3/ 4 /2024 - A year has gone by and still, couldn't be more pleased. She does what she says she will do and keeps in touch. Really important when you have no one else. Five stars and still my highest recommendation. Alan Wayne Davis

Extremely unprofessional and unqualified in handling legal matters; I had a better idea myself on how to draft my application. The firm included both supporting and contradicting materials in my application and the final application was poor, contradicting and carelessly crafted. Never available for any questions or queries. The entire experience was draining, negative and of being left out in the cold. I wish I had chosen wisely and saved $$$$$.

I was using Jim for years now. He is worthless as a lawyer. He took my $750 3 years ago and never had a court hearing. I called multiple times, he blamed his secretary, he blamed emails, he blamed everyone but himself. It didn't matter how many times I called, how many emails I sent he doesn't getback to you once you pay him. He does not fight for kids or even get it right on what you can write down on a piece of paper for him. Check out his Google reviews they are all exactly the same as mine. As long as he has his money he doesn't care how he gets it. Don't waste your time with this guy. You might as well say good bye to what your children need, and light your money on fire.

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
