Eric is conscientious, courteous, knowledgeable, approachable and empathetic. He took lots of time to understand my case and walk me through the various options with a realistic approach to resolve the issue. His experience and number of years in labor law, especially in CT, make him a wise choice for anyone dealing with such an issue in the public sector, but especially when it comes to dealing with the State of CT.

Greg is an excellent lawyer. I sought his counsel before signing contracts and developing my own art business contracts. I can honestly say that he made me feel comfortable and knowledgeable about what contracts means, what they should include, legalese language etc. He explained it in simple terms which I really appreciated. He is extremely patient, prompt, and responsive. I was very happy with his service and will continue to seek his counsel in my future endeavors. I highly recommend him!

Greg was referred to me by a former colleague as someone who has a depth of knowledge about my industry in particular. He's super available and easy to work with and I give him my highest recommendation!

I worked with Greg to set up my small business and I'm so incredibly glad I did! I had not business experience whatsoever and was very nervous about the entire process. Greg was extremely reassuring, reliable, responsive to all of my needs, and he gave the much needed confidence to get through the entire process. He's prompt and on top of the communication process, logistics with documents, etc. which was wonderful. I would absolutely hire him again in a heart beat, and I am always happy to rant and rave about him to my colleagues and friends!

Attorney Arias helped me immensely with a motor vehicle misdemeanor charge. Not only did he get my charges nallied, he even picked me up for court when I couldn't use my car. He also kept in touch with me throughout the whole process to make sure I was ready for our court dates. He spoke with the prosecutors for me, and got me out of trouble without any fines or points on my license! He really cared about me, and did his best to help me.

Won “best case scenario” judgment Should you ever find yourself needing a family lawyer, I highly recommend Andrew Eliot. He was recommended as one of the best CT / NY family attorneys, which I needed with a complex NY agreement that was interpreted in Connecticut. Long story short: Andy helped me win a best case scenario judgment. Andy laser focused on the key issues, brought in game changing experts, handled himself with poise despite a lowball opponent — all while being mindful of fees. I trust him. It is clear that he genuinely cares about his clients and families. The process may suck, but this is the guy you want on your side.

Very responsive, thorough, efficient, knowledgeable, and brilliant. The level of professionalism Roopa exudes is even better than some larger firms. I needed Roopa's help creating a contract between me and an artist I was signing. She created a contract that was fair to both me and the artist, and more importantly, covered all the key points I asked for (like what percent I would earn off of the artist's sales). I was surprised at the professionalism at her firm. When I signed, I was given an engagement letter that laid out all the details - her fees vs. market rate, and the discount I was getting. She listened thoroughly to me at our client meeting and was extremely responsive and helpful! I know I was unable to pay the market rate due to my limited funds, but Roopa was kind enough to take my financial situation into consideration. I hope that Roopa's firm grows and wish her all the best. Definitely would recommend.

This is my story, In 2016 I started my journey at nursing school at Stone Academy in the evening program. I encountered many delays during this time, I finally graduated in the year 2020 instead of 2019. I have been trying to pass my NCLEX from November 2020 until January 2024, I passed. I felt accomplished and all congrats were in order. I applied for a job went through the process but my license keep saying pending on DPH website. I called the Board of Nursing and the person who answered the phone informed me that my license will not granted until they receive an updated transcript that I graduated from this institution as the one they have on file said withdrawn. The emotions were high when I heard these words my response was how could you have sent me ATT to write my boards for the past 3 years? The backlash was awful, detached and no empathy. She did refer me to call OHE ( Office of Higher Education) to find out if they have the transcript but they did not! Long story short….OHE put me on a list to request an official transcript from Stone Academy, this school stop existing in 2022 and currently have lawsuits. I decided to higher a Lawyer, I called Keily Mira Law Firm and was connected to Jon. I went in the office, I explained my case but he never had a case like mine. He got the understanding and decided to take my case, he was also hitting close doors! I gave him all the information for him to work with, when I thought getting a Lawyer would perform a miracle, I felt frustrated and overwhelmed. Jon reminded me that he is working on my behalf and he is my ADVOCATE, I would have to be patient because it wasn’t an easy task. OHE placed my name on a list to receive my official transcript, even though a copy was sent wouldn’t be enough, on 2/20/2024. I emailed OHE 2 weeks ago to find out if there were any updates the person responded to me yesterday 4/18/2024 “as of right now there hasn’t been any updates and I have escalated your case”. I forgot to forward this email to Jon yesterday, I was rushing to work. While I was at work yesterday my phone rang and I saw that the call was coming from Jon’s Office. He was excited too, He said your license is in your inbox, I was thinking this is too good to be true but he kept saying it. I started crying on the phone, He insist I check and so I did. I couldn’t see from my eyes being filled with tears. I said where is it coming from and he told me and I saw it! Awwwwh what a relief Jon has been working behind the scenes while I was being patient, Jon was definitely my advocate! I am forever grateful, I am now moving forward with my life to make a better living for myself and my family. I cannot thank you enough! You didn’t turn me away. Thank you! Thank you!

Eric helped me re-negotiate my alimony/child support agreement and I couldn’t recommend him more highly. He was determined to get the best results, patient and meticulous, and a pleasure to work with. Upon contacting Eric for an initial consult, he made me aware that his initial fee was to donate to a children’s charity close to his heart. This spoke volumes to me. I could tell from the start of this initial conversation that he was compassionate, and upon conclusion of the consult, I knew that he was not only compassionate but extremely knowledgeable, professional and the type of attorney I wanted to represent me. He continued to impress me throughout my divorce proceedings. After the consult, I hired Eric as my divorce attorney, and it was one of the best decisions I made. Eric was professional, organized, meticulous, compassionate, and supportive during a turbulent time in my life. He not only gave me guidance and his expertise throughout the divorce proceedings, but he also was very emotionally supportive when necessary. He gave me a clear understanding of the process and what options existed in my particular case. Eric along with his associate and staff were very responsive and considerate throughout my divorce. They were truly amazing, and I would highly recommend the Law Office of Eric R. Posmantier for anyone seeking a professional, caring, compassionate attorney who knows when to stand up for his client and is able to negotiate a fair and favorable outcome. You will not be disappointed in this decision.

Attorney Shea is probably very good. HOWEVER, I found him through a legal aid type of website & she seemed to decide there was no money for him in my situation & basically hung up in my face. I told him from the start that I was not looking to make money; rather just needed to know my rights. If he isn’t looking to help/advise people, he should remove his name and/or firm from those sites. I’m sure there are many more attorneys who are kind, patient, and have10 minutes for a few questions pro-bono. If you have a lot of money and want to sue someon, Mr.Shea may be your guy. I felt no support from him as far as the manner in which he represented me for about 3 years for my accident case. His actions both in and out of the courtroom were unsatisfactory. He was at times very timid, rude , insensitive and unprofessional. For some reason, unknown to me, he was not committed to help me as best as he could. Maybe he should be doing something else not be an attorney. At the end (in court) he kept insisting that I drop the lawsuit because some judge (who reviewed the case beforehand) said that I really did not have a chance to win the case and that I was not credible. He ( Thomas Virgulto) also wanted me to sign some handwritten paper (written by himself) stating this and that I could be brought up on perjury charges if I continued on. I ignored him and his letter and continued on till the end of the case. I'm sorry that I did not drop him as my attorney. I would never recommend him to anyone under any circumstance, not only because he did not help me but because of his poor disposition.

What an Entertainment Lawyer Can Do for You

An entertainment lawyer specializes in legal matters related to the entertainment industry, including film, television, music, publishing, sports, and digital media. They assist artists, creators, producers, and companies with contract negotiations, intellectual property protection, licensing deals, royalties, and disputes. Entertainment lawyers also help clients navigate complex industry regulations and ensure their creative rights are protected.

Whether you're an actor, musician, producer, writer, or influencer, an entertainment lawyer can help safeguard your rights and ensure that your business deals are legally sound.

When Should I Hire an Entertainment Lawyer?

You should consider hiring an entertainment lawyer in a variety of situations, including:

  • Contract negotiations: If you're signing a contract for a film role, recording deal, or publishing agreement, an entertainment lawyer can review the terms and negotiate on your behalf to ensure your interests are protected.
  • Intellectual property protection: If you're a creator (musician, writer, filmmaker), an entertainment lawyer can help secure copyrights, trademarks, and licensing agreements to protect your work from unauthorized use.
  • Disputes or litigation: If you’re involved in a legal dispute, such as breach of contract, copyright infringement, or defamation, an entertainment lawyer can represent you in negotiations or court.
  • Representation agreements: If you’re hiring or entering into a contract with a manager, agent, or publicist, a lawyer can ensure that the terms of representation are fair and comply with industry standards.
  • Royalties and licensing: If you're licensing your work for use in film, TV, or digital platforms, a lawyer can negotiate royalty agreements to ensure you receive proper compensation.
  • Talent contracts: Whether you are hiring talent for a project or negotiating your own appearance or performance fees, an entertainment lawyer can ensure the terms are legally binding and beneficial.
  • Film and television production: If you're producing a film, TV show, or other media project, a lawyer can handle contracts with crew, talent, and distributors, and ensure that all legal aspects of the production are covered.

Hiring a lawyer early in your entertainment career or project can prevent costly legal mistakes and protect your creative and financial interests.

What Does an Entertainment Lawyer Do?

An entertainment lawyer provides a range of legal services to professionals in the entertainment industry. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Reviewing and drafting contracts: Entertainment lawyers review, draft, and negotiate contracts for talent, production, licensing, distribution, and endorsements. This ensures that the terms are fair and protect their client's interests.
  • Securing intellectual property rights: They help clients obtain copyrights, trademarks, and patents for their creative works, and assist with licensing those rights to third parties.
  • Negotiating deals: Whether it's a film deal, music contract, publishing agreement, or endorsement, an entertainment lawyer ensures that their client gets favorable terms and is protected from potential legal pitfalls.
  • Handling disputes and litigation: In cases where contract terms are violated, intellectual property is infringed, or other legal issues arise, an entertainment lawyer can represent clients in negotiations, arbitration, or court.
  • Advising on industry regulations: Entertainment lawyers help clients navigate industry-specific laws, such as union regulations, labor laws, or FCC rules for broadcasting.
  • Managing royalties and residuals: They assist in tracking and collecting royalties or residuals for music, film, television, and digital content to ensure clients receive the compensation they are owed.
  • Talent agreements and representation: Entertainment lawyers often work with talent agents and managers, ensuring that their clients' representation agreements are legally sound and financially beneficial.

How Are Entertainment Lawyers Paid?

Entertainment lawyers may be paid in various ways, depending on the type of service provided. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many entertainment lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $250 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fee: For specific legal services, such as drafting a contract or filing a trademark, some lawyers offer flat fees. Flat fees are common in simpler or one-time transactions.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases, especially when working with talent, entertainment lawyers may charge a contingency fee, meaning they take a percentage (usually 5% to 10%) of the client's earnings from a particular project.
  • Retainer: For ongoing legal services, such as managing contracts and royalties over a long period, a lawyer may require a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services, and the lawyer bills against the retainer as they work on the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer at the outset to ensure you understand the total cost of legal services.

How Much Does an Entertainment Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an entertainment lawyer depends on the complexity of your legal needs, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of fee arrangement. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Entertainment lawyers typically charge between $250 and $1,000 per hour. More experienced lawyers with extensive connections in the entertainment industry may charge higher rates.
  • Flat fees: For simpler services like drafting a basic contract, flat fees can range from $500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the agreement.
  • Contingency fees: Lawyers working on a contingency basis typically charge between 5% and 10% of the earnings from a project or deal. For example, if a lawyer helps you secure a $100,000 film contract, their fee might be $5,000 to $10,000.
  • Retainers: For ongoing legal representation, retainers can range from $2,500 to $50,000 or more, depending on the scope of the legal services and the length of the engagement.

Always discuss the costs and fee structure during your initial consultation to ensure that the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Entertainment Lawyer

Before hiring an entertainment lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they are the right fit for your career or project. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have in entertainment law?
Ensure the lawyer has experience in your specific area of the entertainment industry, whether it's film, music, television, or digital media.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, flat fee, or contingency fee, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. Do you have industry connections?
Ask about the lawyer’s experience and connections in the entertainment industry, which can be valuable for contract negotiations and deal-making.
  4. What contracts or legal issues should I be aware of?
Ask the lawyer to identify potential legal pitfalls in your specific project or career and how they would help you avoid them.
  5. What intellectual property protections do I need?
If you’re a creator, ask how the lawyer will help protect your intellectual property rights and prevent others from using your work without permission.
  6. How will you negotiate deals on my behalf?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to negotiating contracts, ensuring they focus on getting favorable terms while maintaining strong industry relationships.
  7. What happens if there is a dispute?
Ask the lawyer how they handle disputes, including whether they aim for negotiation or litigation and how they would protect your interests.

How to Check the Credibility of an Entertainment Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable entertainment lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for entertainment law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in entertainment law and have successfully handled cases or negotiations relevant to your industry.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients say about their experience with the lawyer, especially in terms of contract negotiations and industry knowledge.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on entertainment-related matters.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in entertainment law organizations, such as the Beverly Hills Bar Association Entertainment Law Section, can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to staying up-to-date on industry trends and regulations.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an entertainment lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Current contracts or agreements: Bring any contracts you have already signed or are considering, such as talent agreements, recording contracts, publishing deals, or management contracts.
  • Intellectual property portfolio: Provide details about any copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property you own or are seeking to protect.
  • Project details: If you’re working on a specific project (e.g., film, album, book), provide a summary of the project, your role, and any legal needs, such as contract negotiations or copyright protection.
  • List of collaborators or stakeholders: Provide information about other parties involved in your project, such as agents, managers, producers, or distributors, and any contracts related to them.
  • Questions about your legal needs: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, potential issues, and how the lawyer can help you protect your interests.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your legal needs effectively and provide the best possible advice tailored to your entertainment career or project.
