You are better off letting the court appoint an attorney or even defending yourself. This man has shows no regard for your well being. Never actually pleaded for a better outcome and was late to every court hearing. Absolute imbecile.

I hire this lawyer when i was 16 yo. I was burned by a local restaurant while i was working for them and Mr. Hernandez took the case and i was thinking that i was going to win this case on the info we had. But its been almost 6 years since the accident and about 4 years since today i haven't heard from Mr. Hernandez. Every single time i try to call him, he does not answer or he " is in a meeting". I am in the military now so i travel ALOT. Everytime I am home on leave, i try stopping by his office or giving him a call, but i never here of him. I just wanted to give my spill on Mr. Hernandez. And you know i live by a pharse the Marines use all the time Semper Fidelis, which means Always Faithful, but right now he aint be faithful. Well i hope this info helps you on picking a good Lawyer

Not recommend, My experience in dealing with this firm the sence 2019 is they have one managing partner that has become incapable of being upfront with basic cost and adds unnecessary charges. When I first hired this firm cost was upfront and fair. As of late when they say a dollar they charge 2 dollars. Dealing with this managing partner I have found him to be unprofessional and agrumentivite when asked about cost or copies of documents that have been paid for.

Was assigned as a court appointed attorney in late 2020. If you want a lawyer who fights for you. This guy is DEFINITELY not IT! I mean He doesn’t text back. UNLESS you bug him to death. Witch is really sad. Barley picks his phone up. Will NOT update you on court dates or settings. Nor does he care about your case. He prob just looks at it the day of and pushes it to the side. He should be stripped of his license. If I was as care free on things as he is to his clients I would have filed complaint after complaint. His only Interest is himself and his motorcycle. He post on social media but will def look the other way if you need him. Horrible service. And he knows it. HIRE PROFESSIONAL HELP

I was divorced in 2013. Imagine huge mistake choosing Olivo. He had received a 15? Minute cal from the friend of my ex wife explaining the entire situation to him and was adamant I was not guilty. Olivo said he would investigate the call and situation and took a 350.00 deposit. The next day he called sad told me I had to go to court the day after. In my opinion he is a railroaded who has still not repaid me and cost me my life. Nothing my witchcraft practising ex said was true but in my opinion and in fact BNSF railroaded me. Mr. Olivo you are lying. I retained a lawyer the day you were missing in action For my case. You did not negotiate any deals on my behalf. A lawyer saw me in the hallway broken down and uncontrollable crying. This was after the clerk called you while i stood there and you lied to her and said you were not paid. You are a dishonorable person. Thats why you left el paso under a cloud of shame. Even though it was a 4 hour drive there and 4 hrs back i attended every hearing for over a year and you did nothing. You informed me of nothing. Thats why the lawyer recognized me because i came faithfully to each hearing. If you want to make amends do so by fixing this or forever bare the shame of you. Mr. Heaney has represented me a few times. His fees are reasonable, especially when he decided to take one of my tickets through an appeals process, which he suggested would be in my best interest. We had to meet at two more court dates, but he never charged me more. He said it was part of his service. I gave him a gift card for a steak dinner when it was all done. It was the right thing to do after all he had done for me. I have confidentally referred him to others. He is busy, and because he is working on cases, he is not in his office much. He keeps in touch calling from his cell phone and and checking with his office. He and his office have always been the ones to stay in touch with me. He is a very nice man and pleasant to work with. I know he will take care of my unfortunate ticket situation which gives me much peace.

I hired him to help me on a protective order case and he was the WORST at returning calls, when he called me back after months you could hear it in his voice he didn’t care nor wanted to deal with the case and was always frustrated. Instead of fighting the protective order he just settled for whatever the court offered me. He eve told me he wasn’t interested in dealing with my case anymore AFTER he told me previously he would take it. All around he is a HORRIBLE attorney for family cases.

Few of us really look forward to deal with a law situation. When I began to look for a lawyer, I knew that I wanted someone who would understand the importance of my relationship with parties invloved in the case and Charles is compassionate about his clients and cases. From my first meeting with Charles, my confidence regarding my tricky case grew enormously. . Charles has a deep knowledge of the law, and of human nature generally. Charles is a lawyer who is doing this work for the right reasons, and truly cares about making sure that his clients get the most fair and best possible outcome from the court. I highly recommend Charles Chambers, Attorney at Law, and am extremely pleased with the work that he has done on my case and am confident we will have the outcome we are fighting for, just like the many cases that Family and Friends have hired him on, truly an amazing lawyer

This "Law Firm" is a joke. I paid over $2500 for what essentially amounted to one in office visit with CPS. We were quoted $2000 to handle a BOGUS CPS case. Paid in FULL and Mr Garza (Andrew) calls and tells us Mr Garza is with drawing from our case. We still have CPS in our lives (now more than ever because we do not have the protection of a attorney. They have threatened to take my daughter away and caused all kinds of stress in my life. We met with Mr Garza only one time. His paralegal Andrew did all the "work" on the case and billed us $100 a hour. Mr Garza never had me or my family in mind. All they were concerned with is how much money they could squeeze out of you. Called literally every day demanding more money. They missed filings on Court Proceedings that would have got CPS shut down, had numerous typos on signed Affidavits, didn't know who needed to sign the affidavits, didn't put in any evidence from our side, asked us to provide things for him and our evidence and then never used them. I could go on and on. I have worked in the legal field for a very long time and I have NEVER seen unprofessional, incompetent people in my life. Andrew is literally one of the most incompetent man I have ever met. All he would do is upset my wife and tell her how we should be prepared to lose. It was a BS slam door case. When I told him I wanted him to go in there and SHUT THIS DOWN ONCE AND FOR ALL, Andrew told me i would have to pay around $6,000 for Mr Garza to "take the gloves off" Like.... what?? He is total garbage and you are better off going ProSe in your case than ever letting these baboons even look at your case

This man is unprofessional he is all about taking your money. I repeat, do not hire him it's not worth the headache. You will be stressed out dealing with this person. communication "off" he likes to brush you off when you are asking him questions about your case. It's sad because he doesn't know much about your case because he doesn't look into it like he should. He will send you all your information for you to review it yourself. Shows up to court late and doesn't fight for you just setting back waiting on what the DA is going to do. I asked for a refund half my money back he agreed to it then turned around and told me he isn't going to pay me anything back.

This attorney has no idea how to argue a case! This lady said um and uh during the attire case. This individuals mailbox and office is at a ups store in cedar hill. She has no home office and her augments in court were very beginner. Her courtroom presence was nonexistent and she sounded very ignorant on what the case was about. She did not file the case paperwork properly and waisted 11,000 plus dollars only for us to get to court and lose the case. (We only lost due to her wasting the time allowed to prove the case and she never proved the case or got to present evidence from client..it was embarrassing to watch) She should be disbarred for the lives she ruined. She’s the worst attorney in the DFW area and I’m shocked she even passed the bar. God will pay her for her miss deeds

Don't deal with this firm. I was impressed with the way they held my hand and helped me get my case approved 15 years ago. I made a mistake by giving them the job of applying H1B for my employee. I had practically everything. The staff is very rude. Jerry Zhang is not even in USA. We had to call several times to get the job done. He should be paying money to us. They just send you a DIY template and we have to work on it. They don't offer any help. They are in the business of just charging money. Don't waste your time by dealing with them. I am a successful businessman take my advise. I've seen how success has hit this company. They don't care for customers any more like they used to. They offer "0" support and no customer service plus they are all very rude. The attorney I was dealing with yelled at me several times. Their team is in China, they just outsource everything.

I retained Attorney Justin L Writt to represent us with a simple name change. After three misguided directives from Atty. Writt I was finally advised of a court date of 1/25/13 at the 247th District Court @ 9am. Atty. Writt was 40 minutes late. Upon entering the court room, he went directly to the clerk's desk and held a five minute conversation. He approached me and motioned for me to step out of courtroom. He proceeded to explain that the clerk failed to add my case to the docket. I questioned how he was notified about the date and he said he received a phone call. Having knowledge of court proceedings, just receiving a call was not customary. I called my Estate Planning Attorney who advised me to request a copy of the Notice of Publication, required to be filed as public notice and proof of submission to the court. His first response was to inquire what that was. He then stated it was in at his office and we could get a copy of the entire file. I arrived at his office prior to him and was greeted with profanity and abusive language by Atty. R L Manor who was speaking to someone on the phone. When he noticed I was in the office, he asked "How you doin' ?" To which I replied "offended" Atty. Manor proceeded to explain that someone was talking bad about his wife and he didn't take that. He then stated "this is my house and my receptionist should have informed him they had company". I was seated in his front office. As I continued to wait for Atty. Writt to supply the proof if filing, I could hear a discussion going on between both attorneys regarding my request for the Proof of Publication document. Finally after having waited nearly an hour, the receptionist handed me an envelope with documents dated prior to October 2012. Atty. Writt refused to come discuss why there was no document confirming his submission of the Notice of Publication. Instead, I heard Atty. Manor state "I'll tell her'" in a manner that suggested Atty. Writt was avoiding me. At which point Atty. Manor approached me stating that I would need to make an appointment for the following week to discuss the missing document. His tone was aggressive and his body language threatening. When asked why Atty. Writt would not come speak with me, Atty. Manor became belligerent and said "I told you, make an appointment!" and he proceeded to show me the door. When I advised Atty. Manor that I would be contacting another attorney and the Bar Association, he challenged me by stating "go ahead, if you really have one." We retained Atty. Writt for a simple name change preceding. It was emotionally devastating to have been failed by him as a result of his incompetence. But to have been verbally assaulted by his partner while Atty. Writt was able to hear the entire exchange was disheartening. We later confirmed with the court clerk that there was never an actual court date assigned because of his failure to remit the required documents. What both of these attorneys are ignorant to is the fact that I really do have outside legal representation, who is very experienced with filings with the Attorney General's office, the BBB and the Bar Association.

I hired this law firm for my husbend for him to be released for a detainer in 2011. I had called probably 10 lawyer's and they had all denied to take my husbend case. Finally I went down the list of attorneys that were closer to where he was and I called this law firm. I do a free consultation and they told me that he could get out and we'll just listening to them I said forget it and I hired them without taking in the fact of what everyone else said and 1 month later at my husbend court date. Boom he was out. I am sooo thankful I found this firm. Thank you Mr. Ray and Mrs. Patricia..

Did my paperwork incorrectly and attempted to charge me for the correction. He filed with the court an order appointing my son as his own father and changing his name to the wrong name. Then when I asked him to change it quoted me $2k. His secretary yelled at me for questioning that charge. Is that ethical or legal? Get it right with a better lawyer who can read and spell.

Unethical. He made an error on a court order. It states that my son is his own father. When I asked to help change it and even offered to pay the court filing, he requires his retainer. $2500. I wonder if this is a business. Make an error and funnel more money from people? Good idea in theory but save your money and find someone to do it correctly the first time.

The negative reviews are absolutely true! I attempted to file for divorce in 2009. I payed Karyn upfront and trusted her because of our affiliation. She never returned my calls or emails. DO NOT use this attorney.

Karyn took over a year to file for us, was paid in full. Ignored calls, messages and emails, waited 3 years to file then ignored it and case got dismissed. She let her license expire, and has no regard for others. Do not use her!

Karyn did a fine job for me during my lengthy case. She has been representing me since 2010. We have been to Court several times and she never lets me down. She does her job well and she knows what she is doing. 'Kickin Karyn', I like to call her, even traveled out of town to represent me. I cannot thank her enough.

I wish I'd never spoken to Mr. Barrett. He was quite personable on the phone. We had some nice, very brief chats, but when he wants to disappear, he WILL disappear. I went ~42 days with nothing which would be absolutely fine but you have to manage expectations, and not say 4 days then go 42. Bizarre. Oh and he never withdrew from my case. The case continued and the entire process was a nightmare. I’m still baffled.

Retained Kenneth Royce Barrett after the initial consultation to ensure it was understood in that the rodent infestation I was dealing with inside apartment dwelling was clearly conveyed to property management; however, property management ignored the problem and failed to provide exterminating services despite monthly reminders for six months after infestation compounded exponentially. Served with eviction notice, sought an attorney and foolishly relied on the Peer Review provided to this attorney during selection process. Suddenly, Barrett increased retainer from $450/2 hours to $1,000/4 hours. After retainer was remitted, he immediately came back to me concerned in that level of case perceived difficulty had increased though no changes resulted to warrant any concerns for any increases in case perceived difficulties. This implied Barrett was forewarning of the potential need for additional funding. I decided to instead to negotiate an Exit Strategy with property management myself and did given I’d already relinquished $1.0K to Barrett for essentially no reason. Informed Barrett who then advised to not let property know of move out intentions in writing. Then he became unreachable. Three weeks later I requested my residual retainer be refunded on two different days before he responded with having had Covid and was behind on record keeping tasks but would resolve following week. This did NOT happen. Four months later I contact him again to learn he’s suffered another bout with Covid and remains behind on work tasks. He then tells me he advised me to remain in my previous apartment. Another lie. So I investigate to learn he has a reputation for being dishonest. Another month passes, seven months after initial retainer paid, request formal contact information for litigation purposes and receive nothing. As 100% Disabled American Veteran unable to work, trusting this person created a financial hardship I continue to struggle with present day given the unexpected relocation expenses and non-refunded retainer in part or in whole.

When Dawn took me as a client our mission was crystal clear and we both believed in my case, a few months later she had mentioned she met some other attorneys and was going to start a practice with them. Our communications became less and less, as now when I reached out to her it would take her weeks to respond, if at all. Eventually she stated that she wanted a class action lawsuit, whereas before we agreed my case would set a precedent for others to follow. She wanted me to find other litigants for her (I'm assuming her new partners tried to push for class action, more money in it for the firm) So basically I was cast aside told to "F Off" literally, and that was the end of that. Originally I thought about filing a complaint with the State Bar Association. Dawn is an unseasoned, unprofessional, attorney with no track record, and I'm sure she prefers others do the heavy lifting. She has no confidence in her own abilities.

Mr. Wilson has been myself and my brother and sister attorney on our case. CPS has hurt our family in more ways then one! Mr. Wilson has yet to interview me nor my brother or sister. Mr. Wilson put his (quote: In my reason to believe that in the best Intrest of the children not to be placed back with our parents!) Now how can Mr. Wilson be a good lawyer and represent us in our case if he doesn't practice Family Law, nor consult with me or my sister or brother that CPS has miniplulating everyone's statements , hasn't let us see our parents , CPS also haven't followed the guidelines of there duties bounded by the state of Texas , Violated our 4th and 14th admendments rights , one other thing is the CPS Investigator Joseph out of Floresville forced me to stay in a room at school just me and him and forced my hand off door knob and told me to sit down ! Now should this Lil description of what is going on in my case along with my Lil brother and sister case still keep us away from our parents , with Mr. Wilson being our Lawyer ? No It Sure Shouldn't Keep Us Away! I hope and pray to God up above that this review would be seen by the right person and get us some Help or the right Lawyer that will do something besides coward behind CPS horrible miniplulant lies!

I understand that she is using her mother's coat tail to establish her clients, but I was very disappointed that I could not get thru past the receptionist. I paid the consultation fee, only to find out what I already knew. Fees are extremely expensive. Comparing this to a really good pair of leather shoes. You know they are good, and will last a long time, but then you see the same pair with a label and you end up paying five times more. If you have the money upfront they will talk to you, but you might be stuck with a pair of over priced leather shoes that pinch more than just your pocket. I was ready to hire the team, but I could not talk to anybody without money. I wanted to pay another $1000, and even then I couldn't speak to anybody. I knew that I wasn't going to be guaranteed a win win case, but I needed answers to some of my painful needs. My desperate actions led me to a different attorney who did answer all my questions. I lost my $250.00 consulting fee.

This is the worst law attorney/ car accident attorney ever. After getting into a car accident almost two years ago. Nothing has been done , excuse after excuse. Never calls me back and the other attorney always comes up with excuse as to why this isn't over. I would call and Valencia and she would say oh your case is going to court, next few weeks they have gave my case to another law's office without me agreeing to letting another attorney taking my case. They knew after a few weeks of taking my case if this was going to be harder. I guess I can say Shaun Naidoo runs when things get hard , this was my first accident, and the experience with someone hitting me head on and the attorney running too as been frustrating. I will be talking to the bar Association because they gave my case to someone else without contacting me to even ask me if i wanted somone else. I've never even had a sit down with Shaun Naidoo. Run before he bells out on you.

What an Entertainment Lawyer Can Do for You

An entertainment lawyer specializes in legal matters related to the entertainment industry, including film, television, music, publishing, sports, and digital media. They assist artists, creators, producers, and companies with contract negotiations, intellectual property protection, licensing deals, royalties, and disputes. Entertainment lawyers also help clients navigate complex industry regulations and ensure their creative rights are protected.

Whether you're an actor, musician, producer, writer, or influencer, an entertainment lawyer can help safeguard your rights and ensure that your business deals are legally sound.

When Should I Hire an Entertainment Lawyer?

You should consider hiring an entertainment lawyer in a variety of situations, including:

  • Contract negotiations: If you're signing a contract for a film role, recording deal, or publishing agreement, an entertainment lawyer can review the terms and negotiate on your behalf to ensure your interests are protected.
  • Intellectual property protection: If you're a creator (musician, writer, filmmaker), an entertainment lawyer can help secure copyrights, trademarks, and licensing agreements to protect your work from unauthorized use.
  • Disputes or litigation: If you’re involved in a legal dispute, such as breach of contract, copyright infringement, or defamation, an entertainment lawyer can represent you in negotiations or court.
  • Representation agreements: If you’re hiring or entering into a contract with a manager, agent, or publicist, a lawyer can ensure that the terms of representation are fair and comply with industry standards.
  • Royalties and licensing: If you're licensing your work for use in film, TV, or digital platforms, a lawyer can negotiate royalty agreements to ensure you receive proper compensation.
  • Talent contracts: Whether you are hiring talent for a project or negotiating your own appearance or performance fees, an entertainment lawyer can ensure the terms are legally binding and beneficial.
  • Film and television production: If you're producing a film, TV show, or other media project, a lawyer can handle contracts with crew, talent, and distributors, and ensure that all legal aspects of the production are covered.

Hiring a lawyer early in your entertainment career or project can prevent costly legal mistakes and protect your creative and financial interests.

What Does an Entertainment Lawyer Do?

An entertainment lawyer provides a range of legal services to professionals in the entertainment industry. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Reviewing and drafting contracts: Entertainment lawyers review, draft, and negotiate contracts for talent, production, licensing, distribution, and endorsements. This ensures that the terms are fair and protect their client's interests.
  • Securing intellectual property rights: They help clients obtain copyrights, trademarks, and patents for their creative works, and assist with licensing those rights to third parties.
  • Negotiating deals: Whether it's a film deal, music contract, publishing agreement, or endorsement, an entertainment lawyer ensures that their client gets favorable terms and is protected from potential legal pitfalls.
  • Handling disputes and litigation: In cases where contract terms are violated, intellectual property is infringed, or other legal issues arise, an entertainment lawyer can represent clients in negotiations, arbitration, or court.
  • Advising on industry regulations: Entertainment lawyers help clients navigate industry-specific laws, such as union regulations, labor laws, or FCC rules for broadcasting.
  • Managing royalties and residuals: They assist in tracking and collecting royalties or residuals for music, film, television, and digital content to ensure clients receive the compensation they are owed.
  • Talent agreements and representation: Entertainment lawyers often work with talent agents and managers, ensuring that their clients' representation agreements are legally sound and financially beneficial.

How Are Entertainment Lawyers Paid?

Entertainment lawyers may be paid in various ways, depending on the type of service provided. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many entertainment lawyers charge by the hour, with rates typically ranging from $250 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fee: For specific legal services, such as drafting a contract or filing a trademark, some lawyers offer flat fees. Flat fees are common in simpler or one-time transactions.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases, especially when working with talent, entertainment lawyers may charge a contingency fee, meaning they take a percentage (usually 5% to 10%) of the client's earnings from a particular project.
  • Retainer: For ongoing legal services, such as managing contracts and royalties over a long period, a lawyer may require a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services, and the lawyer bills against the retainer as they work on the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer at the outset to ensure you understand the total cost of legal services.

How Much Does an Entertainment Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an entertainment lawyer depends on the complexity of your legal needs, the lawyer’s experience, and the type of fee arrangement. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Entertainment lawyers typically charge between $250 and $1,000 per hour. More experienced lawyers with extensive connections in the entertainment industry may charge higher rates.
  • Flat fees: For simpler services like drafting a basic contract, flat fees can range from $500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the agreement.
  • Contingency fees: Lawyers working on a contingency basis typically charge between 5% and 10% of the earnings from a project or deal. For example, if a lawyer helps you secure a $100,000 film contract, their fee might be $5,000 to $10,000.
  • Retainers: For ongoing legal representation, retainers can range from $2,500 to $50,000 or more, depending on the scope of the legal services and the length of the engagement.

Always discuss the costs and fee structure during your initial consultation to ensure that the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Entertainment Lawyer

Before hiring an entertainment lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they are the right fit for your career or project. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have in entertainment law?
Ensure the lawyer has experience in your specific area of the entertainment industry, whether it's film, music, television, or digital media.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, flat fee, or contingency fee, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. Do you have industry connections?
Ask about the lawyer’s experience and connections in the entertainment industry, which can be valuable for contract negotiations and deal-making.
  4. What contracts or legal issues should I be aware of?
Ask the lawyer to identify potential legal pitfalls in your specific project or career and how they would help you avoid them.
  5. What intellectual property protections do I need?
If you’re a creator, ask how the lawyer will help protect your intellectual property rights and prevent others from using your work without permission.
  6. How will you negotiate deals on my behalf?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to negotiating contracts, ensuring they focus on getting favorable terms while maintaining strong industry relationships.
  7. What happens if there is a dispute?
Ask the lawyer how they handle disputes, including whether they aim for negotiation or litigation and how they would protect your interests.

How to Check the Credibility of an Entertainment Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable entertainment lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for entertainment law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in entertainment law and have successfully handled cases or negotiations relevant to your industry.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients say about their experience with the lawyer, especially in terms of contract negotiations and industry knowledge.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on entertainment-related matters.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in entertainment law organizations, such as the Beverly Hills Bar Association Entertainment Law Section, can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to staying up-to-date on industry trends and regulations.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an entertainment lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Current contracts or agreements: Bring any contracts you have already signed or are considering, such as talent agreements, recording contracts, publishing deals, or management contracts.
  • Intellectual property portfolio: Provide details about any copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property you own or are seeking to protect.
  • Project details: If you’re working on a specific project (e.g., film, album, book), provide a summary of the project, your role, and any legal needs, such as contract negotiations or copyright protection.
  • List of collaborators or stakeholders: Provide information about other parties involved in your project, such as agents, managers, producers, or distributors, and any contracts related to them.
  • Questions about your legal needs: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, potential issues, and how the lawyer can help you protect your interests.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your legal needs effectively and provide the best possible advice tailored to your entertainment career or project.
