Do not go here.I had the worst experience. I had a court date the lawyer never showed up.He went to have surgery. He messed up everything and took my money and never did his job.Reply to lawyer's message.I was in your office in the past.I was looking for a lawyer for living recently saw your office never again for any service..Another thing is I had the right court date and I did show up.The court confirmed I had the right date your office never showed up.I will never use your office. This is a family bussiness so I know the lawyer is still present to this day.

Consultation went good. John Hamlet gave me understanding of how this works. Very thorough and patient. I believe they will be able to help me with the issues I'm having trying to file bankruptcy. I'm looking forward to working more with you and your staff. Thank you for being patient and answering the questions I did have, which weren't many because you covered all the info I was seeking. I just referred my sister to contact you as well as she is in the similar boat I am in. Again thank you again Mr. Hamlet for your time and patience with me.

Please do not let that sweet face fool ya. Under tragic circumstances my grandsons father took custody of him and almost immediately abuse and neglect started. Me, as the grandmother, had to prove the allegations as well as try to gain custody. Mr. Jones not only came to every court date prepared he also stayed two steps ahead of the father and his attorney. I’ve heard the old saying “pitbull in a bow tie” but that never rang so true as when Mr. Jones dominated in that courtroom during trial. All while a smile remained across his face. I was completely blown away and didn’t know he had it in him. If anyone has a situation where they are in need an an Atty who truly listens and truly cares I recommend Mr. jones 100%!

Very Bad experience. I hired her for a divorce case and setup 4 different appointments that were all cancelled at last minute for various reasons and each time I had already left work on vacation time. I told her I wanted a refund and wasn’t going to use her anymore she proceeded to tell me she didn’t get that message because she forgot her phone so she said she worked on my case that day (lie) so after doing nothing for me she keep $1,000 of my money. I am currently filling a complaint on her. Also note that no matter what happens nothing seems to be her fault. She uses very foul language too. Do yourself a favor and find a good attorney she’s a joke.

My divorce was already filed etc should have been an easy case handed to her. She told me I didn't need representation I just needed a motion to file for mediation etc.. I wanted representation tho. Her reply was "I have no problem taking your money". $3k down. We met for mediation. She was on her phone I talked to opposing console on my own with very few exceptions thru.. she rescheduled numerous times due to illness. I understood the needs then, she failed to communicate with me during opposing consoles filed motions nearly got me for contempt, met only a few times at court which was nonsense and waste of time. Told me one thing then changed her words later on a related motion filed. She filed a motion to leave my case after doing the same to someone else. I asked for a detailed account of my retainer. Never produced. Def not worth $3,000 Claims she only works off of referrals these days. Has 24 yrs experience and prior I had heard good things. Experience taught me otherwise tho. Choose if you want things stalled out months with no progress and just have $ to throw away.. I didn't have but it cost me anyway.

Most lawyers wouldn’t even speak to me concerning the case brought against me by CPS, Chris not only took my case and didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, but he also stood toe to toe with CPS and WON! Nothing will ever give me that time back with my son that was taken from us, but thanks to Chris, they were unable to continue abusing their power.

Greene was my lawyer for my divorce, and completely ruined my life. I was clueless about divorce, and looked to him for guidance and help. I trusted him, as I thought he would do everything in his power to help me. I was wrong, he advised me to agree to EVERYTHING my ex wife's lawyer tried for, and I listened because I trusted him. He said we wouldn't win against her. In the end, I owe my ex wife $2205.00 a month for child support (3 children), maintenance (Greene told me I had to pay it-which I later found out is untrue), and my 401k (i also later found out that according to the law, you have to be married 10 years at least to qualify for your spouse's 401k). My ex wife and I were married for only a year and then filed for divorce. I thoroughly suggest you don't go to this man for a lawyer.

We were super excited after meeting Caddas, he was FULL of enthusiasm and promised us the moon and said we will make them pay (jail time) for illegally keeping your child from you. But after receiving payment for retainer he said i'm not doing any of that, lost all enthusiam for the case and focused on the wrong part of the claim.( parenting instead of assests.) Before hiring we told him to call whenever possible, it was alot cheaper! Instead he emailed 1 word or 1 sentence emails to us and opposing counsel when it was not necessary, a phone call would've sufficed. (Thank you, got it, recieved the item, I'm starting on this if you have any questions) He had no respect for us, didn't care how we felt or what we wanted. He was so distracted that he never started on our other part of the claim, it was a simple subpoena to further our accepted motion. Instead he never did anything with it, then was denied by the courts because nothing else was filed. We are a few years later and I am stuck paying for another attorney to fix his mistakes. Now I have time against me because he didn't pay enough attention to our case and missed important details and documents. The other thing that bothered us was he was enthusiastic and compassionate and really wanted to make the other party pay for their contempt and fraud. Once the petitioner retained counsel he was buddy buddy with them and his entire tone changed. From my understanding opposing counsel and caddas were friends, always communicating and billing us for it. My retainer was almost empty, instead of calling us he sent an email and we didn't immediately pay him, we told him we would come meet him next week. After we worked out the settlement offer for parenting, and decide how to proceed with assests, since it was denied from his negligence. While we were working out the settlement with the other party he dropped us and were told after he filled documents with the court. So it was basically $0 maybe -$200 from the emais. He was not part of the settlement; my ex and I worked out a fair negotiation then had her attorney prepaid doxuments to sign. Then two weeks later i was sent a bill of $700 then it was $1200 then it changed to $500. No clear billing and the price kept changing, we did all the work for the settlement all he had to do was sign and submit the settlement and somehow that turned into $1200 then went back down to $500. The one good thing I would have to say is that they were very willing to take a smaller retainer to start services vs the traditional 5k retainer. But now I see why, they knew that they would bill 2-4x what they actually worked and charge for a basic "Thank you email". Very unethical, I have worked with a few attorneys and none of them have ever charged for basic reply, never had changing bills. If you still decide to retain Caddas I recommend getting a more detailed retainer and asking to put communications charges in writing and waiving basic replies as billable. Other than Caddas the law firm itself was very professional, great paralegals but you need to hold their hand and make sure they are following up with your case and filling items in a timely matter. Caddas was a waste of money, I filed all motions that were accepted before I retained counsel. All he did for us was retype up our parenting plan request and organize documents and speak with other party counsel. I could have saved myself alot of money by doing it myself

Does not make decisions based upon facts or truth. 100 % bias and rigid. No support for anything but hearsay without evidence. If parties all agree to settle outside of court she will single handedly block it verses hearing and considering what is best for families. Absolute worst demeanor and lacks compassion. Only cares about winning. No place for this type of practice in family court.

ABSOLUTELY the most bias woman so called friend of the court….only because appointed by her buddy! Put down statements she said my daughter made that she did not!! Sat with my ex, a woman obviously, for 23 hrs., talked to me for 40 min after falsely accusing me of being somehow impaired “over the phone”! Looked like an idiot after I had a full sobriety test done in which the officers job was threatened for helping me! Wow, people already know. There’s a reason she couldn’t win an election. Has to depend on a buddy to appoint her. Totally unprofessional. Comes apart in court….oops.. judge to the rescue.

I used Ellie Kerstetter, I took a gamble because I was not familiar with any attorneys in Louisville. Her office is downtown, I consulted with her first, even though she came off rude I thought she knew what she was talking about and could get something accomplished because she knew law jargon, however, I got no results. She got me absolutely nowhere. She will only get you results if she feels you are worthy. I felt like in the courtroom she could have said so many of the things about my case that I had told her, assumed she would get around to it and that she would know when the time was right, half of what I told her was never mentioned in court and she had an attitude when I tried to tell her in the courtroom what my concerns were. A complete waste of money on a woman that only cares about what she believes happened. I feel she was judging me as a person and allowed me to get the short end of the stick. I would NEVER recommend her.

This place is one of if not the worst law firms I’ve ever dealt with. First they stuck you with some junior lawyer who doesn’t know what he is doing and has zero confidence, so they have to ask for help from other lawyers in the firm so next thing you know your paying three lawyers to do one lawyers work. Nothing ever got resolved regarding the matter at hand the billing was borderline criminal in what they were charging. Why should I have to pay three different lawyers because the original lawyer didn’t know what in the hell he was doing? I mean so I basically paid thousands of dollars to a lawyer who didn’t know anything so he went and consulted two more lawyers within the firm, then billed me for his lack of knowledge or experience. Stay. Away from This place

I engaged the legal services of Mary McKee based on her proposed statement of services, and the expertise she exhibited. Since signing an engagement letter and paying a $1500 retainer, I received 0 communications and 0 answers to my multiple emails with legal questions over the course of nearly 7 weeks. I called multiple times every week, and the 2 times I was able to speak with her (weeks apart), she promised an email within 2 business days. I received 0 emails weeks later, not even a response to an email requesting an update, at any point. She repeatedly promised legal help and gave timelines that were set and created by Ms. McKee herself at her discretion, which she repeatedly did not meet, nor did she respond to communications. She provided a "timely” plan during consultation that she never even started. Even though she sounded caring, she wasted MONTHS of my time with absolutely no consideration for me. She had no consideration for my daily living conditions (the reason I needed legal help), and no consideration for my time, given that I called or emailed almost every day to check on the status, which despite her promises, never changed over the course of 6 weeks. She literally sounded annoyed every time I contacted her for any information, and absolutely nothing was done in over 6 weeks (outside of an engagement letter and collecting $1500 from me). The only reason for 2 stars is because I was acknowledged that I would be refunded without issue (though the $1500 refund is still pending).

After another attorney left the firm, "Katy" was given my disability appeal case. While she seems like a sweet young lady, she is very inexperienced, and did not follow through with anything she said she would do. I wasn't even aware that she had quit until the firm sent me a letter assigning me to a new lawyer. She never contacted me, I always had to contact her. I had to stay on top of my appeal status, and I had to ask when she needed new documentation. The one document she did draft had so many issues on how it was written, and since she did not understand my case or my disabilities, nor did she take the time to do so, it did not yield any positive results. Overall, I would not recommend her until she has a lot more experience in disability cases, or unless she had an experienced supervisor double checking her work.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
