Stephen was very professional in all areas of the judicial process. He was prompt in responses and concerns and very flexible and easy to work with. He took the time to explain processes, went beyond expectations and achieved an outcome which was very fair in my circumstances. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of legal advice.

Pat has represented me in a few instances- one sad, and one glad. I have entrusted her with my future, and have not a single regret in doing so. Her presence through both proceedings was a tremendous source of confidence and calm. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Do not call this law firm. I am just now receiving a past due notice for an invoice from May of this year for a service that was never provided. It was promised, talked about on the phone but never delivered. The simple document I was requesting was a liability waiver release form for a tour service for my Lancaster county Business: which is now Offering guided hiking tours in beautiful Lancaster county. I never saw any kind of email from this law firm let alone document that I had requested. Somehow they are perfectly able to send invoices to my email. Interesting.

wasnt impressed at all, guy doesnt say or do much. just kept talking about money. never comunicated, got better legal advice from his secretay cindy then him becasue he would never get on the phone, but was very sure to bill you 100. when he sent you a letter in regard to your phone call. cant say he did much, even at the custody confrence he was screaming deal and telling me i coulnd afford to go further. i take that as a sign you dont care or want involved. bill me dude. at the custody confrence, what he wanted to settle on wasnt enough for me and said i wouldnt get more, i dint wana make a deal and spoke up on my own behalf asking for another day, while he yelled at me to keep quiet, and guess what, the moderated agreed and said that was typical and i got it! still to this day i have that extra week day more then just weekends, and is very pivitol in my relationship with my child and school starting and it contues to piss the other party off. i could have got every other weekend on my own with out dan taylor, and i did and more, this is why i never hired him ever again, but he sure does like to continue to send bills and im still not sure what exactly he did or thinks he did. i had one sit down with him to discuss things where he took my money, dint see the petition till court. and i know that dont cost 5k + and we all know that lawyers got these outlines and petition saved on there computer and just change names and facts and prints or even have a legal aid do it. and as i said his secretary cindy communicated and gave me legal advice more then him and strongly belive is greatly probable that she did all the work. save your money. he was my first ever lawyer, and made a bad impression. ive been lucky to move on and find a coplete oppisiate of him and gives great efforts and avdise and communication who help clean up his mess.

Stephanie E. DiVittore is incompetent. Retain her if you'd like to lose. She will charge you 3 times what other attorneys cost and lose the case for you. Before she loses though, she will offer to represent you for free when the inevitable loss occurs. I can only recommend you work with these guys if you're interested in losing. Have a great day folks.

He barely fought for a custody battle between my girlfriend and her abusive, mentally sick, and drug addicted ex. He refused to look at any pictures of my girlfriend when she was beat up by him, allowed the other lawyers to take over the conversations in court proceedings, and didn’t make any changes fo the court agreement when her ex missed TWO drug tests and failed ONE. He passed one drug test after three failed attempts and now, with ZERO concern about his mental health and well-being, he is allowed to have her unsupervised. Katz is allowing a four year older girl to spend time with a mentally unstable, manipulative man who has been in and out of prison and rehab multiple times, with little care or concern. He was hired to make sure her ex stays clean and gets the help he needs. He didn’t do anything on the three failed attempts at a drug test. He’s spineless, careless, and overall, useless.

Negative reviews aren’t my thing. However this is just ridiculous. I hired Katz 3 years ago, for a custody case that I already filed for. As time went on he insisted I forfeit some of my time in favor of the mother; who was agreeing to just end the whole thing and continue what we did for 11 years without the courts. Katz reasoning was I might possibly have to forfeit time in the remaining years of our sons childhood (which was 5 years). Needless to say I dropped the case anyway, retained my 50/50 and everything’s been golden. What receives this negative review is him avoiding my calls over the past 3 years to finish an overdue divorce which she filed during the custody battle. He advised I not sign a paper and if need be sign it a month later. 3 years pass and every few months I call to see if we can do anything. Talked to him once and I offered to pay double. He said money wasn’t an issue and would call me back. Never did. I call back, no answer, no reply. I wait it out try again in a few months and no answer, no replies, nothing. I left another voicemail saying I’d pay whatever he needs. Same old, same old. So I’m stuck in limbo until this divorce case expires. Waiting to adopt another son from a guy that’s practically begging me to. And this review is literally my only option left. Do not hire Katz!

Attorney Mr. Richard A. Katz represented me regarding my divorce and bankruptcy. During a doubly difficult time in my life, I can honestly say, I was truly blessed to have such a superior attorney! It was Mr. Katz's level of compassion, professionalism, efficiency, swiftness, and consistent care that made a difficult time turn brighter. I was very pleased with not only Mr. Katz but with the overall warmth and care from his office. They are a true team! I'm grateful for the positive experiences and outcomes!

Incompetent! This person has no business making legal decisions. She is unable to tell the difference between an abuser and a victim and she should know better given her background that she boasts on this site. She cant recognize a Narcissist when one is put in front of her face. For these reasons, she is incompetent. She lacks sound judgment and she abuses her discretion. I highly suggest that multiple Judicial agencies, colleagues, and individuals investigate her competency.

I have first hand experience of Mr Morrison's inability to obtain financial assistance for private pay nursing care even though from the outset he guaranteed it would not be a problem. After 22 months of working together there is no closure in the process. Even after requested paperwork was submitted, a few days later we would receive a call from his office that additional information was needed. They had no type of system or order of when things would need to be done. Mr Morrison would also say one thing at one meeting and then deny it at the next. In the end the financial assistance was denied without any full explanation from Mr Morrison as to why it was denied, even though he ensured us numerous times that it would not be.

This lawyer did not fight for me. She even stated,"you have nothing." I was trying to keep my house in a divorce. In 9 months I was divorced and kept my home.

Hired Dell for a real estate matter. He did not communcate, painted a very optimistic outcome and underestimated the true costs of the case. When questioned about the fees, he terminated his services and later sued me for the balance on a bill. When I filed counterclaims to justify my demand for a refund of my retainer, he filed a $50,000 defemation suit against me based on what I had said in the pleadings. His counterclaim to counterclaim was dismissed by a judicial order with prejudice. In my opinion Dell is unprofessional and a bully.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
