I have used Joe on many occasions from basic contract writing to quiet title, opening probate, and fighting adverse possession case which we won. Joe and his team are extremely knowledgeable and come prepared to win. Aside from winning in the court room Joe gives you guidance along the way, always educates you on the process, and is a phone call away for any questions. As for contract law, Joe's agreements are stellar and protect our interests I wouldn't hire any other attorney for real estate matters in Philly & Delco.

Ms. Moscow was very attentive and available during a particularly challenging legal battle. She fought hard for me, answered emails, made phone calls, stayed engaged with opposing counsel, and had a good relationship with the judicial appointees. I had a good outcome and I would recommend her without hesitation.

Jean and her office are kind and extremely helpful. Jean has a great sense of human decency and compassion as a lawyer. She even let me pay her monthly without adding interest. When we were in court, she always wanted to get in and out, so as to not waste my money. She is not extremely aggressive, but I appreciated this about her in the end because it made me realize how much better we looked on our end, as opposed to my ex's slimy lawyer who wanted to soak him up for every little penny he had.

I've contacted the office back at the end of January. On January 28th they requested documentation and just today 2/9/2022 I was told " oh the lawyer is too busy for your case. After damn near two weeks of waiting to hear something, as if my case was being looked into- I find this unprofessional and rude. I’ve referred clients to Alicia Fastman over the years that were in need of a family law attorney. I’m a lawyer, but don’t practice family law so when I need a referral in that area Alicia is my go-to. She’s personable, attentive and respected among other lawyers in the area. I’ve seen Alicia use a collaborative approach but also go to war depending on the client’s needs and wants. I would not hesitate to call Alicia for all your divorce/custody needs. I always want my clients to be happy and I always get good reports back after sending them Alicia’s way.

Jordan represents me in a contentious custody matter. The Delaware County court system is prejudicial to those without legal council. When it comes to the safety and welfare of the child it best to have great representation. Jordan has a good relationship with the hearing officer's, judges and lawyers. She is articulate, logical and passionate. These qualities are necessary when navigating the family court system. In my experience dealing with a obnoxious opposing council and a vengeful, narcissistic ex partner Jordan has no qualms about being cutthroat. Jordan has made my life easier with dealing with unnecessary litigation abuse. In my case I had to make stressful financial choices in order to have the best representation, Jordan was so kind and help me out financially and still preformed at her highest caliber. Throughout my two year custody battle the only thing I regret is not finding Jordan from the very beginning. If you are a loving, caring parent who is honest about themselves and your situation, wants what's best for your children, or is dealing with a difficult ex-partner this is the lawyer you need. In the Delaware County court system you will need a lawyer who isn't apart of the good ole boys club and can't be gaslit or manipulated. Go with Jordan she's your best bet.

Jordan has represented me for my custody battle and divorce. I had a very complicated and messy divorce. Jordan never left my side. 2016 my life was changed forever if I knew you can right reviews I would have done this sooner. I was introduced to Jordan by a friend after being arrested and my rights violated.i had all evidence to clear my name even a credible witness that could have clear my name. She looked at me and said “you got it all figured out”. Not telling me she doesn’t specialize in criminal cases or anything in that manner. Instead took at-least 3000 dollars of payment from me. She didn’t show evidence or allow my witness to speak at all she never even followed any of my directions as she worked for me my witness and the person who car I had both came to every court case and she did not mention them in court. My case was pushed all the way to pretrial with no effort in fighting my case. I tried to get a new attorney before my guilty plea they would not take my case on instead they informed her of it instead and she berated me in a telephone call afterwards. She gave me no option but to plead guilty when I told her I was innocent. When the judge ask am I sure I want to plead guilty which I didn’t she tapped me and said don’t say anything. I received a 6 month jail sentence 6 months house arrest 5 years probation and a felony guilty plea. Now I have fight to get a governor pardon which is slim to none. She ruined my life as I fight to recover from bad professional advice that at the time I didn’t know she is required to put me in the best position to win my case which she didn’t. I’m allow to post this anonymous but I want people to know my story I’m at peace but I will never forget what she done to me. Without a chance at a pardon my life Will always have financial burden because of my felony conviction. I wish I could sue for Negligence but she made sure I had all evidence destroyed even my evidence I gave her to fight my case.

Deborah represented me in an adoption case. She was absolutely horrible. Saying she was unresponsive was an understatement. She went a year without one response. She took thousands of dollars and accomplished absolutely nothing. We were only able to recoup a minimal amount. It was highway robbery. Mostly, she simply did not know what she was doing. When I hired a new attorney, things went smoothly and we were able to complete the adoption. Unfortunately, the cost was much more than it should have been. Please spare yourself and look elsewhere.

Scott Aldridge represented me many years ago in both my divorce and child custody issues. He was superb -- calm, efficient, decent, and a great listener. He stood up for me and my children in our last four-way meeting prior to finishing the agreement -- and, true to form, he predicted the outcome exactly. Through him, I was able to retain my children and my house, and have still managed to be on good terms with my ex husband. Scott always took the high road. I commend him without reservation or hesitation.

I reached out to this law firm to just explain a situation I was having with my landlord. I wasn’t seeking a lawyer but just had one legal question I was hoping maybe they could answer for me. I inquired online which sends an email to notify their office. When I received a response, it was an accidental response that one of the members had meant to send to to all of his colleagues, that read “now this one we do not want” . I never received legal help nor hired a lawyer from this firm , & my review is no reflection on how they handle their actual clients or legal cases , however it is a proper representation of my experience with them.

I highly Recommend Gibson & Perkins. I have used their services for approximately 6 years now and been through a few cases together with very positive outcomes. Personally, I have used Paul Fellman and Walter Timby on those occasions. Both, as a team & separately these Attorneys were wonderful to work with and easily accessible to reach if I had any questions. Professionalism is the word that comes to mind to describe the firm, as a whole. Always completely prepared for any surprises that may pop up during a trial. They were well versed on all pertinent info pertaining to each case. As I client, I always felt I was an integral part of the team, not an after-thought, that had to be brought up to speed a half hour before the trial started. I could not recommend this firm and Mr. Fellman and Mr. Timby any higher.

Michael met with my wife and me at least three separate times, as we updated our wills, power of attorney and advanced healthcare directive. Before we even discussed the "paperwork", he was so careful to discuss all of the alternatives on trustees, investment considerations and our own personal needs and directives. Never once did we feel like we were being handed a "boiler plate" or "cookie cutter" solution to our wills and other estate matters. The staff at Pierce/Hughes was extremely attentive and followed through with meeting arrangements, copies of the needed paperwork and other items to make this necessary process bearable.Through Mike and his team, we have been able to achieve peace of mind and also know that he will be there in the future for us and our children if needed.

Nelson took days to call back, after multiple calls and multiple emails, finally called to tell me that we did not win the bid for the house. I come to find out that even though my letter of intent AND my AOS said that I would cover closing costs, along with phone conversations confirming the fact, the seller told me that wasn't conveyed to him. It cost me the deal. I found it very odd how this played out. Attention to detail is not his strong suit.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
