We hired Mr. Harris for a criminal case and he always had a response for State at trial. He’s a quick thinker and knows an out for just about anything, I feel like. He was always very kind to myself and my family, and was serious when he needed to be. I think that’s probably why people say he wasn’t very nice. On top of the criminal case, I also hired him for my custody case. He’s very understanding and accommodating as well. A real life saver.

He is an attorney I would run from. In a trial divorce I lost everything and i mean everything. My husband was a drug and alcohol addict. He abandon me when I was without income due to an illness. He was also seeing someone. I found viagra. I had all the evidence of proof and witnesses. Husband had not one shred of evidence and no witnesses. Husband couldn't even speak clearly during court was told to speak clear, speak up and to sit down. Tucker told me I had nothing to worry about with all my evidence and besides getting him for drugs and alcohol abuse we would even go for abandonment. The day of court Tucker told me to sign a paper stating I was divorcing on Irreconcilable differences. I did not want to sign it but Tucker said and I quote "You have to sign this to be heard today and the judge will decide the divorce grounds. I should not have trusted him but a review said he was honest. so I signed. I am a woman with a child and awarded all the family pets and I was given 30 days to get out off the home. Had no time to look and get a loan. We were almost homeless but thanks to the good LORD that didn't happen. Tucker told me nothing about filing a motion which had to be filed within 10 days of judges decision to award me more time to look and purchase a home. It wasn't even enough time to hire a mover they were booking 30 days in advance at that time of year. I had alot of furniture prior to marriage I had to move myself which about killed me. so much to do in such a short time and received not one red cent on a home I helped pay for and remodeled.. Tucker didn't even tell me that I could file an appeal which has to filed within 30 days of the judges decision. THIS IS YOUR WARNING RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM TUCKER YOUR BETTER OFF REPRESENTING YOURSELF THAN USING HIM AS AN ATTORNEY. HE WILL NOT FIGHT FOR YOU. DOES NOT CARE. FABRICATES WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO FOR YOU AND HOW YOU STAND. WILL NOT CALL YOU BACK.. Seen other attorneys afterwards and they couldn't believe I signed those papers when I was filing for drug and alcohol and with the court report that I shown them of my divorce court. I was suckered by my atty and with all my evidence I should have walk away with at least 75%.

Mr. Tucker is among the most professional and ethical Attorneys I have ever known. He has been my and my family's Attorney since he began practice and I was actually among one of his first clients. He has handled many various cases for me and my family over the years and has always done an excellent job. You can be assured no matter the case Mr. Tucker will handle it with zeal, expertise, and when needed aggression and all within the most professional and ethical bounds. I would trust him with mine or my family's life. When you are a client of his you are his number one concern! A rare jewel among Attorneys. God Speed to you Daniel and to your family. -Deborah

While I adore several of these attorneys as friends and people I admire, it does not make up for the worst experience I've ever had with a law office. The first time I called, I was constantly cut off and could not finish a sentence. I was spoken to as if I were a toddler. I still ended up booking a consultation, as I'm bleeding thousands due to fraud that I need legal counsel to fix. I requested it to be conference call due to inclement weather - but they just flat out didn't call me. They did a consultation and declined my case without asking me a question or even showing me the respect of calling me as I requested. I felt completely dismissed and unimportant. When I asked about not receiving a call, despite requesting it a few hours earlier, their staff responded with an attitude, spoke down to me, and hung up on me! I waited 5 days for an appointment, which didn't happen. I've since requested additional callback through their website, as their phone staffer will hang up on you, and have heard nothing back. If you want to deal with a gatekeeping headache, this is the law office for you.

Trying to spread good vibes, not the nicest person to speak with, when you've worked all night (3 hours of sleep), and make little to no sense, but I'm sure she's a good lawyer if your able to tell her what you want, instead of her reading between the lines and suggesting or leading you to what you need to do. Will keep searching for another after much needed rest.

She is not just an all out terrible person, I really don't believe. I actually had a friend, Lori Sparks, recommend me to her bc she helped her. But...she was/is the guardian ad lidem over our case by the time I called her so she said anyways. and its because of the crooked and corrupt system that she works in here in the south especially, she has made me look bad for every single thing I even Say to my children. Smh. sad when you lose your kids bc you can NOT punish them anymore....ohh and she has BEGGED my 13 year old daughter to go and live with her donor's mom because my child is half black so I guess she feels that she doesn't belong with me. What a Shame and disgrace this place has come to. It saddens me deeply to see such a corrupt system and people whom I believe are good at heart be involved due to money and hurting children most of all because they want nothing more than to be with their mother and father and they know this but choose to make them stay elsewhere 💔 I would not use her because of the racial thing she's had going on with my daughter. 0 stars 🌟 for that

Horrible attorney!!! Everything was a one-sided document until I had to make my own adjustments to the documents! After doing so he still allowed the opposing attorney to get the upper hand on him by leaving out an essential request on my behalf. Even after I agreed to majority of the one-sided document from the opposing attorney. After requesting to do a final file of the documents adding back in my essential request, Attorney Lamar decided to drop me as a client! Long story short, he got spanked by the Attorney next door to him!

I generally don’t write reviews, for anything, but I was fully prepared to deal with attorney representation that was impersonal, cold and indifferent. Mr. Haug, Christopher, was anything but. I always felt like he put the needs of me and my family above all else. I got honest and constructive counsel, not just told what I wanted to hear so I could be temporarily appeased. I know that this was key to the outcome of my case- feeling like I had open and rational communication with my attorney. I’d recommend him to anyone in need of a Family Law Attorney.

Beware. Like several other posted, I was referred to this attorney via LegalEase by way of my employer’s EAP. When I spoke to him, he acted like I was bothering him. He told me to email him and he would get back to me. I stressed that time is an issue as I was served with legal papers and had 3 weeks to respond. I emailed him and he didn’t answer me. Three days later I emailed again. Nothing. I called. He didn’t call me back. I called and emailed again. No response. After 2 weeks, I went looking for another attorney who was very nice and helped me immediately. If Mr. Bullen is so busy that he can’t respond, then why does he keep accepting these referrals? Legal Ease told me they spoke to him and he willingly accepted the referral for my case. Why? If you aren’t going to do your job then don’t take the referral. I shared my awful experience with Legal Ease. Hopefully they will deactivate him in their system and stop sending him business as he is clearly incompetent. If people are calling you so they can put money in your pocket, it may benefit you to possibly refrain from treating them like they’re a bother. As if your time is so much more valuable than anyone else’s. No wonder he has so many Legal Ease referrals. He can’t get business from anyone who is actually aware of his reputation. Beware. This guy is a clown. 🤡

Specifically for me, hiring this attorney was my worst night mare! She told me what she could do for me, but it was the exact opposite of what she said. After court, she told me to sign a form that I did not complete. I never got a chance to see what was on the form. She said that she would complete it and turn it in. When she was asked for my court transcript, she stated that it was misplaced during her office move. She is deceitful. She did not give me all the receipts for monies paid for her service, claimed she did not know where her receipt book was. Her practice is moral turpitude.

Giving Mr Benvenutti one star is more than he deserves. My parents retained his services after their long time lawyer retired after Katrina. They met with him in 2006 to give him copies of their living trusts and had him draw up a codicil regarding their trusts. My mom met with him again last year...2014 to change her and my father's power of attorney since my father was no longer able to execute if needed. Last week my father passed away and my mom, along with my sister and I met with Mr Benvenutti two days later. He had not reviewed anything regarding my parents trust before our meeting which I felt was pretty unprofessional. An hour into our meeting was spent with him reading the trust that my mom brought to the meeting and not really giving us any clear advice as to what needed to be done moving forward. My mom also was having trouble locating the codicil that was drawn up in 2006...signed originals and asked if he had copies. She only had unsigned copies. He denied ever drawing the papers up, that they didn't use that size paper or font. At the end of our two hour meeting...all of which being charged $200 an hour for someone that didn't come prepared, we left with having to leave my dad's trust without the codicil and a new codicil to be drawn up again so that my mom's wishes could be honored upon her death. Two days later, my sister found the original codicil in my parent's file, signed and witnessed by Mr Benvenutti and his secretary/office manager. I phoned his office to tell him that he didn't need to proceed with re-drawing up a codicil to my mom's trust, that we had located the originals with both of their signatures. I then proceeded to tell the office manager that I was disappointed with the fact they denied and were absolutely positive they did not draw up the codicil which if not found, my dad's wishes would not be fulfilled. The office manager told me by state law, they do not need to keep fike me past 7 years and so they don't. She defensively tried to justify their unprofessional attitude and work ethic. I told her how upset my mom was and she basically said "oh well". What is sad is that my mom thought that this was her lawyer, never released him or went to another. I wanted to write this review because I feel anyone thinking of using this lawyer should probably find another.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
