Mr. Doyle was efficient, thorough and considerate of all my needs and requests through my worker's compensation case. I wanted the best advocate possible and thanks to another family member who also had success with Mr. Doyle I was recommended to him rightly or vice versa. Please do not hesitate to hire Mr. Doyle if you have a worker's compensation case, do not let anyone discourage you. You get one body, and life is short. Pursue the work you love and do your best in your craft or your trade. Let Mr. Doyle fight for you and your rights, be amicable and you will get the right resolution! Pax

Mr. Sanchez is an excellent attorney. My son was referred to by other people to Mr. Sanchez. We hired him on and he did a wonderful job. My son is free and is able to live his life without any stress. Having a good attorney when you know you're innocent helps so much and this guy wouldn't weigh above and beyond to help my son. Thank you Mr. Sanchez. You're the best!

Working with Gilchrist to establish my chapter 7 was a process I was anxious about for a while. The team really helped to fit into my life needs working with me on budgeting and gathering all the information needed. Definitely one of the best in Albuquerque, after meeting with a few others about bankruptcy processing I'm grateful I chose a great team to support my needs.

I contacted Gilchrist Law Firm because I was strugglin paying off my credit cards. Before I considered filing for bankruptcy, I worked with another company that recommended monthly payments. However, it was becoming impossible to keep up those payments. I made an appointment with Grieta and she clearly explained bankruptcy process. It's advantages and disadvantages. She and her staff helped me through the complicated process. She is a skilled professional lawyer and it is definitely interested in helping her clients.

When I first contacted Mr. Dunn and his team to discuss my Workers' Comp. claim, I wasn't sure what to expect. I figured it would be this long, drawn out process and I would just be another number. This was definitely not the case. I spoke with Mr. Dunn and he listened. He understood my issues. He researched my claim thoroughly and explained everything to me in detail. Every question I had was answered promptly. I felt confident and informed every step of the way. Mr. Dunn and Angela were very professional and caring. Thank you again to Mr. Dunn and his team.

We came to Dunn Law Offices in 2017 with a complex and difficult Workman Compensation case as we were referred to Rod and Rodney Dunn “being told they are the best Lawyers with extensive experience and expertise in these matters.” Rod, Rodney and their wonderful paralegal Angela took on this case “even with the unknown outcome.” We knew this case was going to be complicated and they worked with us with understanding, compassion, great knowledge, extensive research, tireless hours and so much dedication; despite the numerous hurdles throughout the years. “They never gave up” Words cannot express the gratitude we have and we were very fortunate to have them represent my son on his Dads behalf. “Because of their hard work the outcome was worth it!” We would 💯% recommend Dunn Law Offices We will miss you!

I would just like to extend on her review with some of my own words for my appreciation for Dunn Law Offices: Rod, Rodney and Angela! This was most certainly a long process and a hard fought case and I’m glad it is finally done! Thank you so much Rod, Rodney and Angela for all your hard work, dedication, compassion and hours upon hours of work you put into my dad’s case on my behalf. Like my mom said we will miss you guys! I strongly suggest not hiring Mr. Segura. He is negligent, non-communicative, and will not keep in touch with you about your case. He will make you feel UN-important, uninformed, and leave you left in the dark without a care. Thanks to Mr. Segura I almost lost my case. If I had not hired another lawyer I surely would have been in a mess due to Mr. Segura's irresponsible representation. He never met any deadlines or ever returned my emails. But he will take your money anyway. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Gregory Segura Law, he's making a bad name for lawyers in New Mexico. The man is a bad person! - Scott Easlick

I can’t speak highly enough of Tye Harmon! He handled my child custody case, which ultimately resulted in me receiving full custody, as well as the parent termination and stepparent adoption process. From start to finish, Tye was incredibly professional, compassionate, and dedicated. He made what could have been a stressful and emotional journey much easier by offering clear guidance and support every step of the way. What truly sets Tye apart, however, is his humility and sincerity—qualities that are hard to find in such a high-stakes profession. We trusted him completely, and he delivered results beyond our expectations. Tye is, without a doubt, our go-to recommendation for anyone needing legal representation. He has earned our utmost trust and gratitude. Thank you, Tye, for everything you’ve done for our family!

I had very negative experiences using this firm. I had a very straightforward case that this firm had for several years. They neglected to move my case forward and kept assigning me to new associates until finally after like 20k in legal fees they sent me a letter saying they wouldn’t represent me anymore because their associate was leaving their firm. I found a new attorney that had my case settled in a matter of a couple months for a fraction of the cost. My new attorney couldn’t believe how poorly my case was handled. If you like paying bills and seeing your case go nowhere then you’ve found a great fit. If that’s not your thing keep looking.

I would like to share my experience with Samantha Day represented my family with our late parents will 2023 and 2024. She was very understanding, helpful explaining the procedures. I live in Colorado. My brother in person and myself on the phone Samantha had no problem doing this for us. Timing for the meetings she was open to when we could do them. She was in touch with us consistently. We never had to wonder what was going on. If we had a question she responded immediately. My brother and myself were so pleased with her work ,we both have had her do our own trusts. She is licensed in Colorado. My health and grief had kept me from going to Albuquerque. Samantha did my trust over the phone and email. Again she did this with her caring and knowledge. I would recommend her to anyone needing wills or trusts. Thank you Samantha, hope we can meet someday. Lyneta J Pittsford

Samantha Finlayson Day and her team (April Mellinger and Haley O’Hara) did a great job listening your our estate planning concerns and creating a personalized plan that worked for us. Samantha, April and Haley walked us through every step, took time to meet with us several times, was patient with our questions and explained everything in ways that were easy to understand. They took our concerns seriously, were highly professional, and timely with all of their communications. We are really pleased with the high level of service we received and could not be happier with the results. We cannot recommend Samantha and her team enough!

Hello. I had a very unpleasant experience with Will Jenkins. Just because he passed the BAR and is well-versed in legal and lawyer jargon does not give him the right to bully me or speak to me in a disrespectful fashion. I text him with a few qus re: personal property on a transaction he was overseeing and he started throwing words out like "breach of contract allows us to void the contract", "im still allowing you to pick it up at this point", and "pick it up at this time or im selling it to someone else... All because i had concerns and asked a few simple questions. I then went in to make a final pymt. I told him i didnt appreciate him being disrespectful and bullying me prior in those texts and that id like to speak to the Senior Partner to express my concerns. He says "you bullied a woman", "im a partner, the senior partner is not available, you can talk to me" "Hes going to side with me anyways" I told him ill never do business here nor will i refer anyone. The cherry on top-- he proceeds to say: " WHO CARES; WE'LL BE SUCCESSFUL ANYWAY" lol what kind of legitimate, professional law firm does business like that? Do they really engage the community and perspective clients like that? I was blown away. I even emailed the Senior Partner. He never responded. I guess he did side with him... Oh well. Just wanted to share my experience. Dont come here...

I wish I had read the review from Kent P before I even called this firm. When I first called and spoke to someone regarding my case I was encouraged when i was told that I would be able to do a video chat with an attorney. I did the chat with Margaret Graham on the pre arranged video call. I discussed my situation with Ms Graham. She advised me to write a letter to my brother before I went further, primarily because I expressed to her that I was not sure how to proceed because my father is a 92 year old purple heart veteran and I did not want to stress him more than my brother had. This was a case of exploitation. My older brother had taken steps to take control of my parents estate which included falsly claiming I was stealing from my Dad so he could gain control. In his process he not only removed me as POA but he got my father to sign documnets making him a joint tenant on the properties. He has also kept me from seeing my Dad. I told Ms Graham I was not interested in the property but wanted to be able to see my Dad. Ms. Graham advised me if I was unable to resolve this with the letter I could call her back and she would file. Since I was unable to resolve the issues with the letter. I called her office letting them know that I was unable to resove the issue and upon her request I was calling back to hire her to file and help me move forward. I was given an appointent for Oct. 10 @ 1:15. Today Sept 25 I received a phone call from intake to let me know that they wanted me to know that I did not have an appointment and that the firm was no longer accepting any new clients. When I told the young lady about the video call with Ms, Graham and the pre set appointment she proceeded to tell me There was no record of my having the video call nor did I have an appointment on Oct 10. What confused me, is why call me to tell me they wanted to make sure I knew I didn't have an appointment. And where did she suddenly come up with my name and number. If this never happened why call me? I am so upset because I have not seen my Dad in a year now because I have not been able to find an attorney! I Was so excited that Ms. Graham had given me advise (free consultation) and agreed to help me if the letter did not work. I don't know how much longer my Dad has and I am missing out on his last years. I am so sad that I am being told I never had the teleconferance nor did I ever have an appointent. I was told that it could not have happened, yet I fully recall what Ms. Graham looks like. I know it was not any other firm because I double checked the web page and found the photo of Ms Graham. I know I did not make the call up. I now have to start all over again to find and attorney with the clock ticking on my time with my Dad. I am so very upset especially at being accused of not ever having had that conference call. I was also interested in having this firm handle my estate plan. I am prepared to pay a retainer and hourly fees if it gets my father back before he passes. I just don’t understand how this could happened when I did as Ms. Graham instructed. I even had to wait because I couldn’t get an earlier appointment. I now have learned I have to start all over again. Why was I not notified sooner they couldn’t take me as a client. And why did they give me an appointment in the first place?

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
